[00:00:00] Abbot Elementary Season 3 Episode 11 Double Date and Episode 12 Mother's Day are over

[00:00:22] but we're just getting started here on RecapKickback.com.

[00:00:25] Yes, that's right. RecapKickback.com is your place for our Abbot Elementary

[00:00:30] post-show recap coverage of this amazing show that you know I love it and if you've been just now

[00:00:35] finding us strap in because it's going to be a good time. My name is Chappelle and with me

[00:00:40] per usual it's the principal who would join Mr. Johnson in an apocalypse. It's Gia. Principal

[00:00:47] what's up? Oh I am doing good. We are finally getting towards the end of season three. I'm

[00:00:55] very excited to see how we wrap up this short but very sweet season and I really liked these

[00:01:03] two episodes in particular so I am very happy. The I think the book club x like side plot of

[00:01:11] the double date episode might be one of my favorites that we have gotten in Abbot Elementary

[00:01:16] so this has just been a great time. Yeah, you're right I thought about it because there's been some

[00:01:23] bangers throughout this season like we had a few like episodes where I've been like man that's good

[00:01:28] like I've watched a few of these episodes multiple times just for fun and oh man Gia the double date

[00:01:34] episode that might be one of my favorites of all time. Now I would say my favorite I think the

[00:01:43] the book club makes up for the fact that Gregory was pissing me off every moment. I just I cannot

[00:01:52] with this man all right Mr. I put a period on that. Do not piss me off sir okay? We still have

[00:01:59] three episodes left after the double date and I a nonsense nonsense nothing but nonsense around.

[00:02:07] Yeah that's correct so in the past we've had longer seasons of Abbot but as we discussed before

[00:02:13] due to uh you know the recent writer's strike and stuff we only get in a limited amount of episodes

[00:02:19] this season and so yeah our next podcast will cover the last two episodes of season three

[00:02:24] uh so it'll be episode 13 and then the finale but uh yeah Gia's not wrong we have a couple more

[00:02:29] episodes to go and enough time for Gregory to fix this because this was a disastrous episode for him

[00:02:37] in so many ways but to me Gia this is exactly what I needed for Gregory because I needed

[00:02:42] I needed some reinforcement to remind me that this man he knows where home is right he knows

[00:02:48] he should be with Janine and it just came jumping out of his skin in this episode he could not hide

[00:02:53] it and I was like yes look at you we caught you you're on candid camera now like you know. Absolutely

[00:02:58] not this man is for the streets Chappelle. I am so sick of his ass let me just you cannot just put

[00:03:04] a period on something and then be mad when he is on this weird when Janine is on this weird

[00:03:11] double date that's not actually a date but also Erica was very offended that Gregory thought that

[00:03:17] she was on a date with Tariq in this scenario which is weird yes but yeah yes it was great

[00:03:24] great. Meanwhile Gregory's on a date Gia that's the thing that is really just like

[00:03:28] the real the thing that like no one will say out loud is that you're mad about Janine potentially

[00:03:33] being on a date while you're literally on a date. I felt so bad for Miss Lara Jean over there she was

[00:03:44] going through it there that poor girl the I would be Avi in this situation who was just you know

[00:03:51] what was this a date yes was there any romance happening on this double date no was there lots

[00:03:57] of drama yes and he was eating that up I love a messy individual you know like that he was living

[00:04:05] for the mess it was not his mess but he was able to spectate the mess and I think that's important

[00:04:10] right and so I don't want to get too ahead of ourselves so we're going to talk about season

[00:04:14] three episode 11 and 12 and uh normally you know we'll jump around a little bit but I do kind of

[00:04:19] want to talk about these two episodes separately because I think they were so good for different

[00:04:23] reasons I don't want to bury the lead anymore so let's just get into the Gregory and Janine of it

[00:04:30] all Jacob invites Gregory on a double date with Avi the EMT that he's been dating and Olivia

[00:04:38] and who we've never met before or heard of but you know she is there and it looks like her and Gregory

[00:04:45] are hitting it off immediately like when we see them we don't even see Jacob and Avi at all they're

[00:04:51] already out um they're talking they're bonding over how weird and nerdy they are when Gregory

[00:04:57] um you know for me I started thinking okay maybe they're gonna draw out this Janine and Gregory

[00:05:03] uh like will they want that even more because there's gonna be a new love interest in his life

[00:05:07] right Olivia has shown up we really like her because that's the thing when it's bad enough

[00:05:12] when a character that you enjoy but what you want to be with somebody else but then somebody else

[00:05:17] come in and you actually like the person right um and so I thought that was like my biggest fear

[00:05:22] like oh no Olivia's gonna come in I'm gonna be like oh no she can stay but during this double date

[00:05:29] Gregory cannot even focus on his beautiful date because he has noticed that Janine is sitting in

[00:05:35] the corner of the room with Manny and I have been trying to convince myself that we did not have to

[00:05:40] worry about Manny at all Gia was there any moment where you actually thought this was a date?

[00:05:48] I sort of but the fact that he was freaking out so much just like sitcom one-on-one I kind

[00:05:54] of had a feeling it wasn't especially once Tariq and Erica were there but like do I think we will

[00:06:02] have to worry about Manny in the future? I think so personally um and I think Gregory deserves that

[00:06:10] you know like he deserves to shake in his boots a little bit yeah she uh we I don't know because

[00:06:18] I don't trust Manny I never have I thought in the first couple episodes they made it look like he

[00:06:22] might be the potential love interest and then they move away from it because we really get a lot of

[00:06:27] will they won't they with Janine and the district and you know and coming back to Abbott well by

[00:06:32] this episode she's back at Abbott that drama is gone but the Manny situation is starting to

[00:06:38] reappear potentially now we will find out eventually that Manny and Janine are not on a

[00:06:45] date but throughout Gregory cannot take his eyes off of them from across the room he hasn't heard

[00:06:50] anything his date is even saying because he's watching how they're moving and first they're

[00:06:55] sitting across from each other Gia and then next thing you know they're sitting next to each other

[00:07:01] he's he's putting in a mint he's got his date beard on he's leaning over toward Janine you

[00:07:07] didn't think for a second they were gonna kiss? I was not this episode do I think it'll happen

[00:07:13] in the future possibly I mean they had a point about Janine being in her freakum dress though

[00:07:20] you know like that was not that was not not date attire I will just say like you are hoping for

[00:07:28] something to happen when you put on a freakum dress I'm sorry right because okay okay come

[00:07:34] with me on this journey because I'm again I'm not saying Gregory was right but I do think there was

[00:07:41] a little smoke a little smoke that we could not avoid right so Olivia someone who does not know

[00:07:48] Janine does point out that it is a freakum dress and so I was all right Gregory we watching he

[00:07:53] ends up yelling from across the room to getting all this attention on him to break up what he

[00:07:58] thought was going to be a kiss only to walk over and find out that Janine and Manny both

[00:08:02] categorically deny that there's anything going on so they kind of talk it through and

[00:08:09] it sounds like they have at best an alibi for every single thing that Gregory's expecting

[00:08:17] but there's one moment Gia that I just don't think that they really covered up well they said

[00:08:22] they came to this bar together because it's the only place you can pull out a laptop after a

[00:08:26] certain time it's the only bar that does not frown upon you doing work at the bar Gregory ain't seen

[00:08:32] no laptop and I didn't see one either Gia there was no I ain't tripping they're trying to gaslight

[00:08:37] me they're trying to gaslight us they is I think there was a date I don't care I would say now I

[00:08:44] don't think this was a date like I don't think they declared it to each other that it was a date

[00:08:52] but there was no laptop and therefore I think they were both going there under the guise of it being

[00:08:59] a work outing a work meeting when they don't even work together in the same building anymore so like

[00:09:05] Manny what are you doing here and also I yeah I think they were both kind of hoping a little bit

[00:09:14] that it was going to be a date because I also did not see a laptop there was no laptop there was no

[00:09:18] no mac no pc no dell no nothing no nothing yeah well see Gregory is off the mark in so many other

[00:09:25] ways that I almost missed that they never really accounted for the lack of laptop so he says oh

[00:09:31] you're on a double date with Tariq and Erica that's your first red flag Gregory because even

[00:09:36] if you think Janine would go on a double date with Tariq there's no world there's no world it

[00:09:41] doesn't exist Erica would literally never do that so I was like all right that's out the window

[00:09:47] and I'll just say it I loved Erica so much in this episode Gia she had all the smoke for Gregory it

[00:09:54] was it was so good I am so happy she's back I've seen a couple comments now we and we talked about

[00:10:01] this a little bit um throughout the season that we really haven't seen especially in the earlier

[00:10:07] episodes where the um the district's plot line is really at its height we really haven't seen a lot

[00:10:15] of side characters like I'm talking about like any of the other staff outside of the core cast

[00:10:21] any of like the outside friends and everything like that so we really didn't see Erica up until

[00:10:27] this episode and I am so glad she is back and based on some of the uh sneak peeks I have seen

[00:10:34] of future episodes that we will not be talking about here it looks like she will be making an

[00:10:39] appearance as well so any episode with Erica is a good time for me because she really is somebody

[00:10:46] that is like the best friend you want and need and she is always in Janine's corner like she

[00:10:52] takes her position as bestie very seriously yeah and she called Gregory out she said oh that girl

[00:10:59] you with is cute and Gregory don't say nothing he doesn't even defend himself and Janine doesn't

[00:11:03] pry but like Erica's on it she's watching she's kind of she's keeping an eye on him because she

[00:11:07] can tell there's some feelings just jumping out of Gregory that he can't even hide so we find out

[00:11:13] that yeah they were eating a lot of garlic bread so Manny popped the mint he didn't want to you know

[00:11:17] be disgusting in front of Janine and I totally understand that obviously Janine would not be

[00:11:22] double dating with Erica and Tariq because that doesn't make any sense um and she's they switched

[00:11:27] sides sit next to each other because they were looking at a text thread this all seems like it

[00:11:32] tracks but I cannot ignore the lack of laptop I'm sorry Gregory I really do think that Manny is

[00:11:41] somebody we should be concerned about if you're gonna make this move I think he has to do it soon

[00:11:46] Gia I think he cannot sit in this this what do you say a stop sign or his period on it like he

[00:11:51] can't sit in that pause that he tried to put on this thing but what do you think the holdup is

[00:11:56] right now because she's back he's clearly feeling it why why won't he make a move I think he's just

[00:12:02] I mean he's being difficult we know that but I also just think that he is like he is an awkward

[00:12:12] person he doesn't know when the right time is like just because you see somebody all the time does not

[00:12:17] mean that like you are gonna have like the perfect moment to ask anybody out and like they

[00:12:23] work together so that's another complication not necessarily in like their relationship but in how

[00:12:31] they are like you know you can't just ask someone out at work like that's just like that's that's

[00:12:38] just never a good idea so it's just like it's a lot of different factors and also she just got

[00:12:45] back so we're really kind of like on pause with a lot of this drama right now yeah and I was

[00:12:51] enjoying it I'm telling you I really enjoyed this episode I love seeing uh Gregory squirm

[00:12:57] I love watching Jacob watch Gregory squirm because Jacob's loving it too because he can tell

[00:13:02] that at any minute the last straw is going to break and he's not going to be able to hold it in

[00:13:06] anymore he's going to ask Janine out at some point it's just a matter of when so by the end

[00:13:13] of the episode we see Gregory also trying to grow out a beard probably prompted by uh Manny um

[00:13:19] Jacob is able to grow out one but Gregory's beard uh I think Melissa said it'd be what the seventh

[00:13:24] best beard in her class of children yes yeah oh it was so funny yeah I don't know I don't I don't

[00:13:32] even know how Gregory would look with a beard I don't think everybody's made to have a full beard

[00:13:36] no I think like the idea that everybody looks like men all look better if they grow out a beard

[00:13:43] is a myth like driven by ugly people that need a beard you know like it's like it's a bit of an

[00:13:51] agenda um not and some people do look very very good with the beard like do not you know do not

[00:13:58] mistake me but I don't think it's I don't think everybody is like needs a beard or should try to

[00:14:06] grow a beard you know like there's a certain standards and practices we should all be reviewing

[00:14:11] and honestly growing a beard is hard see I have a beard but I kind of keep it low because I don't

[00:14:16] want it to look patchy or anything like that so I like do like the low beard but growing a beard

[00:14:21] it's like if you like just got it you know some people just got it you genetics or whatever you

[00:14:26] wake up one day you got a full beard but if you kind of got the baby face like myself you got to

[00:14:30] you gotta brush your skin you gotta train your your follicles to start you know you gotta engage

[00:14:36] them and that's just a lot of work so I felt bad for Gregory I honestly I kind of felt seen but I

[00:14:41] definitely felt bad for Gregory not having his full ass date beard that he wanted um that's the

[00:14:46] big headline from that episode but I knew I was so excited to talk to you about this episode

[00:14:51] specifically because who better to talk about a book club with than Principal Gia Worthy uh Gia

[00:14:59] this how do you not have a book club podcast by now? Uh reading is like my thing to do away from

[00:15:08] podcasts so if I turn reading into podcasting it's just it it's another thing to worry about

[00:15:14] you know like I need a new laptop first like there's gotta be a lot yeah like there's a lot

[00:15:19] going on there but I do love to read I have a lovely little collection of books that keeps

[00:15:25] growing do not ask me how long my tb red is um because it's very long but books keep on coming

[00:15:33] out like I am telling like we need to slow down the production of books because they keep pushing

[00:15:38] new ones and like I haven't gotten through the old ones yet so we but we have this book club Ava

[00:15:45] has started to enjoy the love of reading thanks to Cree Summers um our lovely librarian I forget

[00:15:54] Miss Inez that is Miss Inez yes Roz she will always be Cree Summer to me um and they are

[00:16:02] starting a book club and they are starting with I think what is a very good pick to be featured on

[00:16:09] this show which is Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler and or was it I think it was

[00:16:16] Parable of the Sower yeah it was yeah yeah Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler I think like them

[00:16:22] highlighting Octavia Butler in particular is just a great choice and very on brand with um the Abbott

[00:16:29] agenda so I was very happy about that and it was but as we can expect by a book club that is run

[00:16:38] by Ava um things derail very quickly and not for the reasons that maybe one would think going into

[00:16:46] a book club yeah this is exactly what you get from an Ava book club first of all she calls it Ava and

[00:16:52] her reading bitches and I said okay I you know what honestly sign me up I'll take it Mr. Morton

[00:16:57] said yep I'm a reading bitch and I said you know what sometimes that's just who you are sometimes

[00:17:01] that's just what you got to be and so yeah they they have this book club and I think the one

[00:17:06] thing I liked about the book club is that it really did get a lot of the the players together

[00:17:10] that we don't really see interact that often so we get Miss Inez aka Cree uh Barb uh Melissa

[00:17:19] and Mr. Morton as well all in this uh all in this uh book club together reading this book by Octavia

[00:17:26] Butler um this book is like a climate fiction book that talks about you know a post-apocalyptic world

[00:17:33] and that's just Ava's alley that's her lane you know we know that she's a doomsday prepper we know

[00:17:39] that she probably has a bunker and we know she has a freshwater hidden somewhere in that school

[00:17:44] so I knew that Ava would love this but what I loved even more was that everybody had to then

[00:17:49] have a conversation about what they would do and or what skills they would have I guess in a

[00:17:54] post-apocalyptic world yeah have you ever had this conversation with people like have you ever really

[00:17:59] sat down and talked about what what you would you be in a world like this um well I'm a sociology

[00:18:06] major so we had conversations like this all the time of like the social world like scenarios like

[00:18:11] if you are in an emergency situation what would be like the skills that are valued in there it's

[00:18:16] like one of those like intro to sociology exercises that um that I feel like anybody

[00:18:24] involved in social sciences has done at one point but definitely stuff like this really makes you

[00:18:31] think about you know I feel like it happens every now and then you think about like what would my

[00:18:35] skills be what would I be bringing to the situation um would would I be someone with a lot of skills

[00:18:42] would I want to be a lone wolf would I want to team up I just want to steal things you know like

[00:18:47] I don't yeah like do I I don't know if I'm there for a long time but I you know like every once in

[00:18:54] a while just have an urge to steal and it's not acceptable in today's society in its current form

[00:19:00] but if we were ever in an apocalyptic setting best be best believe I wouldn't be little

[00:19:05] little grabby hands yeah so I I never thought about this when I was younger and then recently

[00:19:11] I became friends with Davey Rickenbacker who is obsessed with The Walking Dead and so we would

[00:19:15] literally have text conversations about what skills every everybody brought to the table in

[00:19:20] case you know anything ever popped out because I think it's Davey's dream to have a zombie takeover

[00:19:26] like I really do think that that's like that's the world he's waiting on because he's so prepared for

[00:19:30] it right he's like he's very much like Ava in that way um and so whenever he would come to me like

[00:19:35] Chappelle what do you what do you bring it to the table I'm always yeah I don't look I'm I have

[00:19:40] charisma you know I'm very funny you know I'm positive attitude Davey right upbeat you know

[00:19:46] I got some jokes for you I'm like Mr. Borden except I'm not good at science and I don't know anything

[00:19:51] about plate tectonics or the periodic table but be useful but one thing I'm definitely gonna do

[00:19:58] is steal because if I have to go out in like some disgusting post-apocalyptic world while I'm there

[00:20:05] I'm gonna be the richest person that you know like I'm not and it's not gonna be money it's just gonna

[00:20:08] be stuff stuff I've always wanted like you know the little mermaid how she has like all of her

[00:20:14] little trinkets in there that's what I would do I would just hoard up my condo would be filled with

[00:20:19] random shit that will be useful at random times to different people but it's all good it's gonna

[00:20:26] be like a little dragon cave like this is my horde of shit that I am gathering together yeah I would

[00:20:32] just want to steal I would like to be a thief and do I think also we get this question a couple times

[00:20:40] in like different forms like what crime would you want to commit during the during the purge like

[00:20:45] the purge trail what crime is it and of course mine is stealing feeling yeah all stuff I want

[00:20:52] things things I can't get now I don't want to I I don't have a blood lust I don't want to murder

[00:20:57] I'm not like that's just not me I don't consider myself like a very angry person I don't I don't

[00:21:03] have a vendetta against anybody I just want to steal stuff I have a vendetta against all of the

[00:21:08] stores that are way too expensive for me oh yeah I'm gonna be the king of looting if that if give

[00:21:14] me a chance put me in the game I swear I wouldn't let you down I watched so many episodes of

[00:21:18] supermarket sweep with my granny that I've prepped for this okay I got it down pack um because some of

[00:21:24] these teachers they have other skills that like you said you and I we don't really have a blood

[00:21:28] lust for anything but miss Inez says that she could strangle someone with her bare hands if

[00:21:33] pushed to that and I thought I probably couldn't do that I don't think I could just uh just like

[00:21:38] off somebody with my bare hands I'm gonna be honest I I don't think I'd have it in me like

[00:21:42] maybe if they tried to attack me first but also I have no hands I don't like who am I overpowering

[00:21:50] look miss Inez has small hands too but she was able to she said she could will herself to do

[00:21:54] it if she needed to yeah I don't think I'm as cool as miss Inez I mean like we knew that but

[00:21:59] we knew it's pre-summer like yeah I I don't know if I have that in me I don't know like I feel bad

[00:22:06] when I step on someone's foot I don't know if I could strangle somebody and just be like okay with

[00:22:10] it afterwards yeah at least ruin my day right yeah I'd be I'd be pretty annoyed or at least

[00:22:15] annoying for the next few hours yeah Melissa Melissa says she can do what needs to be done

[00:22:20] which we nobody's questioning that Melissa would be perfectly fine she's yeah she during the prayer

[00:22:25] she's going to commit way more crimes than you and I could ever commit uh let's see Mr. Johnson says

[00:22:30] he can fish and throw a plunger and and of course Barbara says her faith and her voice would be

[00:22:36] very big deals uh for her and so now they're all sitting around thinking well who would be the

[00:22:41] leader of this uh ragtag group of misfits and Barbara thinks because her spirituality that

[00:22:47] she would be number one pick but I think Melissa points out that maybe just maybe there's like uh

[00:22:53] you know some religious boundaries that she wouldn't be able to cross in good faith if something

[00:22:58] like this happened um so of this group Gia who would you want in charge of your zombie apocalypse

[00:23:06] team oh absolutely it is the duo of Mr. Johnson and Melissa because they want us to survive right

[00:23:14] like this is this was no contest for me um I think the the matchups that we had during the uh

[00:23:22] when things start breaking out into small groups and I like I am so happy we got the duo of Melissa

[00:23:30] and Mr. Johnson is like my favorite one of my favorite underrated pairs of show because they

[00:23:37] just bring out the most unhinged of each other they are great I love I love the Melissa Mr.

[00:23:43] Johnson duo and I and they were right they have like very specific skills that they can bring

[00:23:49] they are there to survive their skills are related to survival and they are not going to worry about

[00:23:55] like what like things that will get in the way of that survival like I'm sorry they do have a point

[00:24:03] I'm sorry for people of faith but they have a point about you know Jesus might be getting in

[00:24:09] the way of uh my ability to uh strangle or not strangle with my bare hands like there's a reason

[00:24:18] it's called Catholic guilt right yeah exactly yeah there's there's gonna be some things that

[00:24:23] Jesus is going to just frown upon at the very least that you might say all right maybe I can't

[00:24:28] do this uh but this parallels with the book uh parable of a sower so much because you know in

[00:24:36] the book as well they're able to form like smaller camps right where these people are like saying oh

[00:24:41] well this is the group I would go with this is the group I would go with and Ava splits the book

[00:24:45] club up into those camps as well um but she does it in a way that each of the groups is probably

[00:24:50] with somebody very similar to them or with like a similar uh outlook on how these things go so

[00:24:56] like you said Melissa and Mr. Johnson end up together and then Ava is with Miss Inez and then

[00:25:03] of course Barbara is with Mr. Morton because nobody else could suffer through Mr. Morton

[00:25:07] Mr. Morton's going through in this episode yeah he just divorces whooping his ass I was so happy

[00:25:12] that we got Mr. Morton back we're finally starting to see the other um some of the other like

[00:25:21] side characters back you know we get a very fun cameo at the very end of this um episode as well

[00:25:28] that we'll get into um they had Mr. Morton has a whole personality now he's got a whole backstory

[00:25:36] his uh couple counseling is not going well um were you surprised to hear he was married to a woman

[00:25:43] I I won't I won't say surprised but I definitely was like you know Mr. Morton honestly I'm not

[00:25:50] surprised you're getting a divorce you know I think that was the more thing that I was like Mr.

[00:25:53] Morton I was surprised he was married I think that was the real kicker Gia because I'm like

[00:25:58] Mr. Morton he he has some issues and I did suspect a little tension between him and Jacob that might

[00:26:04] have leaned towards something that you're like you know the the the the the infighting between

[00:26:09] the two of them could have been signaling is something else yes yes I so I thought they were

[00:26:15] gonna go that route I I was wrong I apologize that was on me I got ahead of myself I didn't

[00:26:21] know what I was talking about you know I read I read too many books again you know but Mr. Morton

[00:26:29] as like this whole personality now um he I feel like he's going to be like the Toby adjacent

[00:26:36] character of this series right now the uh just the uh I you can't fire him not without cause it

[00:26:44] is because I hate him like that is where we are going with this man um and but I thought this was

[00:26:52] so funny and he he definitely brought something to the table I don't know exactly what it was

[00:26:58] but um he brought something and it was not his uh couple's counseling skills because it is not

[00:27:04] going well no no it's bad but he he is the person who ordered the door dash and so when they get

[00:27:10] their food delivery um you know we saw that Barbara wanted to get some water but Melissa and Mr. Johnson

[00:27:18] have already put an embargo on that now you can't get no water I think Mr. Johnson said why don't

[00:27:22] you pray for it and I said all right now now now I was getting ugly I screamed a little bit and like

[00:27:28] you know uh not Ava well I guess Ava a little bit too but Barbara does not play with her faith you

[00:27:33] know I I thought we were about to see some hands right well we probably would have but to uh Barbara's

[00:27:41] benefit Mr. Morton is the one who ordered the door dash and so the food shows up and now her

[00:27:46] camp has the food and uh while they get the food Mr. Johnson very savagely just recruits the door

[00:27:54] dasher as another member of his splinter group that made me laugh that door dasher was a star

[00:28:02] I'm so it was great the only problem with the door dasher is that he read the wrong book and

[00:28:07] you know so very quickly you know like he joins the crew but then by the end of it he realizes

[00:28:12] that he don't even know what's going on so he does leave and then on the Ava end of things Ava is

[00:28:18] hoarding the food that Mr. Morton bought because um he has given her the wings she told him to

[00:28:25] and he did it and so I'm starting looking at Ava like look at her a principal someone who knows how

[00:28:29] to take charge we've talked about this before we cannot stop beating this dead horse we will beat

[00:28:33] this drum until the end of time Ava is supposed to be in charge of these people look at how she

[00:28:38] just seized control the way only Ava could do it I'm sorry but like there every every season they

[00:28:45] complain that Ava is ill-equipped to be a principal that she does not have the criteria

[00:28:51] they do not understand what it takes to be in such a consistent position of authority and leadership

[00:28:58] and Ava does and she exercises it very thoroughly here I'm sorry they could not do what she does

[00:29:07] no she could do all their jobs they can do what she does or maybe or maybe she couldn't do their

[00:29:11] jobs but in my mind she could right so by the end of this Ava and the crew has to look around and

[00:29:17] say all right are we misinterpreting everything should we be maybe trying to collaborate more

[00:29:23] but when Barb and Melissa decide they're not going to play these games and that they're going to leave

[00:29:29] Ava completely just drags them back down to her level they're like we're above this and she goes

[00:29:34] no you're not and she starts to give them the slow clap as they're supposed to leave the room

[00:29:39] and just that slow clap alone was able to drag Barbara and Melissa back into a standoff with Ava

[00:29:45] in the uh the Kappa Gematorium where they have where they have been having this book club at

[00:29:51] by the end of it they have spent the entire night in Abbott as a way of protesting Ava being in

[00:29:58] charge of the book club apocalypse team that doesn't actually exist um and they're woken up by

[00:30:07] somebody who we've been looking for for a very long time our cafeteria lady's back

[00:30:11] Sinead yeah I love you I love Sinead yeah did you notice how the show just gave us all the

[00:30:17] people we've been begging to see for a very long time back we got Erica, Sinead, we got uh you know

[00:30:22] more Mr. Johnson of course we got Mr. Morden in this episode too I was like okay y'all heard us

[00:30:26] complaining they listened to Recap Kickback I was about to say confirm they listened to the podcast

[00:30:32] thank you yeah obviously yeah but Sinead is the only person who's actually read the book and

[00:30:38] comprehended it she's she points out that it's not about them finding which faction would do the best

[00:30:45] the author actually wants you to look at diversity of thought in order to run a society now

[00:30:51] Gia you have a sociology background I'm pretty sure you saw this coming yeah I mean like I think

[00:30:57] with all of these you know like books like this um the a lot of these what is the word not satire

[00:31:07] but like um like this trope yeah this trope of book something that has like a deeper underlying

[00:31:14] meaning like books like Parable of the Sower if you get too much into like the storyline you're

[00:31:23] going to lose what the actual themes and point of the book is we see stuff like this with books like

[00:31:29] 1984 um some of my favorite like satire books like Kurt Vonnegut Catch-22 um Kurt Vonnegut did

[00:31:37] not write Catch-22 that is a separate example so do not come in my comment saying I got it wrong

[00:31:41] and um so like things like that it's like if you get caught up too much in the story you lose the

[00:31:49] plot a little bit and this is the group that is like they know how to lose the plot all right

[00:31:54] they're a competitive group of people they do have that diversity of thought but in terms of

[00:32:01] whose thought is the correct thought really there's no such thing but especially for a situation like

[00:32:08] this but we make the rules of society and I think Octavia's uh point of the book is a much deeper

[00:32:17] meaning and something that is more complex than pointing to who is like the correct person for

[00:32:22] this activity but it's Abbott Elementary so they're not you know the episode itself is about

[00:32:27] the mess that ensues when you lose the plot. Yeah I think Melissa says it where she goes

[00:32:33] I'm an American I don't listen to other people I don't change my opinions you know I'm saying like

[00:32:38] she's already yeah she's 10 toes down so there's nothing you can do but spending the night in a

[00:32:42] school and having the cafeteria lady kind of line you up in the morning uh that'll do it that'll

[00:32:47] really make you start to take a look at yourself and say all right maybe we've lost the plot maybe

[00:32:51] we've missed the point of the book and uh we should be looking at this very differently and so

[00:32:56] it was a fun episode for sure I enjoyed seeing them all interacting obviously but I loved my

[00:33:02] favorite moment is definitely Ava sitting up on top of her perch with the wing and telling Mr.

[00:33:06] Morton to kiss the wing yeah and he does and then Barbara's like what is wrong with you and

[00:33:16] but actually though that poor man he had a rough episode but I'm glad he's back

[00:33:21] he did we need more updates about his divorce proceedings because it's they're really driving

[00:33:26] his personality right now it's definitely going towards a divorce right like he's saying couple

[00:33:31] isn't going well but like I don't see how this doesn't end up in a divorce no this man needs

[00:33:38] to be alone he needs to be single for a little bit so he can work on himself um at least until

[00:33:42] he figures everything out right you go sit in the corner until we can figure out what to do with you

[00:33:47] Mr. Morton I know like the fact I'm sorry once he uh once he started bringing up how the hentai was

[00:33:53] a big problem I was over him like oh absolutely not first of all like what did Barbara do to get

[00:33:59] that out of you because god could not get anything like that out of me all right like that

[00:34:06] sir that is something you say to yourself away at night like oh please no please god no um yeah I

[00:34:16] he needs to be alone for a while um like alone alone like without oversharing any of this because

[00:34:22] I did not need to know any of this thank you big agree so episode 12 is the Mother's Day episode

[00:34:30] and it would have dropped uh on Mother's Day um so we had a big Mother's Day surprise for our people

[00:34:37] um but this episode is a little bit more touching than the last episode obviously because they're

[00:34:41] going to touch on uh Mother's Day and we know that some of our characters and we learn even more

[00:34:47] about some of our characters a strange relationship or their interesting relationships with their

[00:34:50] mothers so we already go into this knowing that Janine and her mom don't quite see eye to eye

[00:34:56] we thought there was a chance that we would get to Raji but um we got her voice do you we heard her

[00:35:02] on the phone we got her voice and we got a cameo that I should have expected at this point but

[00:35:13] was still very surprised to see at the end of the episode and it was like honestly one of the

[00:35:19] funniest side like plots I don't even want to call it a plot because it just came up at like

[00:35:25] very random parts of this episode but it was so funny and it's so so out of pocket and then the

[00:35:35] person that this storyline is about is in on the joke it was just perfect yeah so let's build to

[00:35:42] that a little bit we get Janine who it's Mother's Day she doesn't have the best relationship with her

[00:35:48] mom and we find out that she doesn't know who her dad is at all is this the first time she's ever

[00:35:53] said that to us dear or did we just like have just never seen her dad I feel like so if I remember

[00:35:59] correctly in like some of the earlier episodes she just talked about how her parents weren't around

[00:36:05] um and we knew more about like what that meant with her mom but we didn't really get commentary

[00:36:11] either way on their dads on um her dad so we learned here that like not only does she not

[00:36:19] know her dad but like her and her sister um have different dads as well and um Ava makes the

[00:36:27] offhand comment that obviously they have different dads because we know that Janine's sister is much

[00:36:33] taller and you know there's only a few people who are short enough to have procreated and conceived

[00:36:40] uh someone at Janine's height and so she just jokingly throws out that maybe Kevin Hart could

[00:36:48] be Janine's dad and when this happened I laughed and I thought it was going to go away but yes the

[00:36:56] horror the horror throughout the episode as I watch this slow-moving train wreck Gia this woman

[00:37:03] Janine deep down deep down in her soul of souls she really wanted Kevin Hart to be her dad and

[00:37:10] that was heartbreaking I know I was I mean like there was no way that this was going to end with

[00:37:17] Kevin Hart being her dad um and we really don't know a ton about like like how old um her mom was

[00:37:24] when she was pregnant with Janine um we really don't know anything about like the timeline of

[00:37:32] their family or anything like that but it was it was just very nonsensical aspect of it for a

[00:37:40] Mother's Day episode as well but the more that we learn about this scenario there's always that

[00:37:46] thing in the back of your head that's like well what if you know what if for I don't know it's

[00:37:53] it's it's crazy to kind of process like it was a it was a crazy route for them to go this episode

[00:38:00] um that made it all the better when we get to the very end of the episode it was just it was

[00:38:06] perfect finish to this I'm so glad they went the route that they did with this yeah Janine calls

[00:38:11] her mom and says hey mom remember when you told me you went to school with Kevin Hart and did y'all

[00:38:17] date and she's like no I'm like uh yeah I went to school with him he was on the basketball team he

[00:38:23] won the dunk contest but we didn't date we actually just had sex uh and so uh that's it we had sex

[00:38:29] and so this was kind of like the laptop conversation with me again Gia where I was like okay

[00:38:35] she she said she had sex with Kevin Hart that okay fine so she would know that she would know

[00:38:41] she had sex with Kevin Hart come but there's a zero chance Kevin Hart was winning the dunk

[00:38:47] contest on the basketball team so at that point I was conflicted well what that tells me is that

[00:38:54] Kevin Hart was not the only short man um in high school so maybe it was another uh if if uh her mom

[00:39:03] did get pregnant in high school that may have this is you know there was another short fella

[00:39:11] that is in consequentially the Janine's uh bastard father oh you know I didn't even think

[00:39:18] about that you know because I in my mind I ruled out Kevin Hart the moment she's

[00:39:22] they said Kevin Hart but then when her Janine's mom says oh no I slept with Kevin Hart I know I did I

[00:39:27] was like okay well you would know but then when she says dunk contest I was like there's no way

[00:39:31] there's no way that Kevin Hart is on the basketball team winning a dunk contest well I don't think

[00:39:35] Kevin Hart can duck I I just truthfully do not think he can do it and so I mean he might be he

[00:39:40] might be able to do it there's probably a video of him dunking somewhere and I look dumb right now

[00:39:43] but just based off of you know just height and you know and you know just gravity I don't I didn't

[00:39:49] think that was something that he could pull off but you bring up an interesting point she had sex

[00:39:53] with somebody and so maybe just maybe there's another mildly short maybe not as short as Kevin

[00:39:59] Hart obviously there's probably like another uh shorter guy that is um that has had sex with

[00:40:06] Janine's mom that could potentially be her dad do you think there's any world where we get the

[00:40:12] conclusion to the is Janine's dad well who is Janine's dad do we get that anytime soon like

[00:40:18] when we get the paternity results I was actually about to ask you the same thing like is there a

[00:40:24] world where we find out Janine's dad um I'd be fine with us not knowing honestly like I don't

[00:40:32] need to know um if they listen like their casting has been on point so if they find the perfect

[00:40:41] person to play Janine's absentee father um I would not be disappointed in that I have faith that

[00:40:49] they would do it in a way that I would thoroughly enjoy um but I also kind of like the point that

[00:40:56] they made towards the end which makes us kind of learn a little more about some of these other

[00:41:00] characters like we talked about how um better a absentee dad than a neglectful one or like not

[00:41:08] knowing your dad than having um a dad that failed you in other ways um which I think kind of alludes

[00:41:16] to based on what we heard like basically that like that's what Erica and Ava experienced in their life

[00:41:22] based on the conversation that we had it's not like confirmed on Ava's side but um as someone

[00:41:28] that does like uh have a really good relationship with their dad um I think it would be hard to

[00:41:34] have like that person in your life if they were constantly failing you so I I don't know what we

[00:41:40] could really expect from it almost feels a little cliche to have um like a dad reveal at the end

[00:41:48] because I think a lot of you know there are a lot of people that live very fulfilling lives not

[00:41:52] knowing who their dad is but if it's something that's really bothering um Janine I don't see why

[00:41:59] she wouldn't pursue it but I think that it could go you know either really well or really bad.

[00:42:06] Right the way she followed this Kevin Hart thread in this episode leads me to believe that if the

[00:42:10] opportunity came up again she would definitely be down for hunting her dad down you know because

[00:42:15] she had almost nothing to go off of except for Ava and she really really went down the wormhole

[00:42:20] but I'm with you on that one you know if it's gonna lead to her having any heartbreak or anything

[00:42:25] like that like I don't love that for my characters like you know when I get a favorite character or

[00:42:29] like somebody I'm rooting for on the show I really want them to deal with all that stuff because

[00:42:32] again this was like a train wreck to me watching her slowly find out that Kevin Hart was not her dad

[00:42:38] um she has been uh stalking him on social media and really trying to get him to notice her until

[00:42:45] eventually she does act we actually do we get we get to see Kevin Hart on Janine's phone and um

[00:42:53] this cameo from Kevin Hart was so funny because he was disgusted by the idea that this woman has

[00:43:00] been stalking him and that he could be her dad like she he just it wasn't this was not something

[00:43:05] he perceived and he was very bothered with all of her attempts. Yeah um this was and so I I had

[00:43:14] an inkling that we might get something because there's no way they could write this episode

[00:43:18] without Kevin Hart being in on the joke right they can't just like they could not just make

[00:43:23] this a thorough line if Kevin Hart did not sign off on this right right in like in the tv show world

[00:43:29] but I was I could not believe that they like did it in this way and that it just it felt like so

[00:43:38] it was such a satisfying ending for me of like putting this to bed like we get the Kevin Hart

[00:43:43] cameo um Kevin Hart's also a Philly native so it's another one to add to our roster here but like

[00:43:51] he wants no part of this ridiculousness he knows that he is not the dad really Janine knows that

[00:43:57] he is not the dad at this point too but they are kind of what's the word like they they just kind

[00:44:04] of want to put this uh put this to rest um we get like a nice little sneak peek in there but other

[00:44:10] than that it is done but Kevin Hart does know Mr. Johnson and we get so we get a nice little

[00:44:18] conversation from them too and I love that someone finally showing appreciation for our man

[00:44:24] Mr. Johnson is everywhere everywhere he's everything you know every time we see Mr.

[00:44:28] Johnson he's chosen something new about him that I always I love this man such a perfect character

[00:44:34] um but the fact that Kevin Hart knows Mr. Johnson could have saved Janine so much time

[00:44:41] because it looks like if Mr. Johnson just called him Kevin Hart he would have picked up and been

[00:44:45] like hey what's up Mr. Johnson what do you need to know yeah it's like at the end we find out

[00:44:50] though she was one degree of separation away from this man the entire time um you know it was a fun

[00:44:56] ride to get to that point but yeah I'm kind of with Ava Ava gives some great words of wisdom where

[00:45:04] she says you know like you said would you rather have a neglectful father or no father it's kind of

[00:45:09] like honestly if your life is fine without a father you've grown up you're relatively successful

[00:45:14] you got a job that you like um you're not unhappy you're not miserable you don't feel like you were

[00:45:18] stunted in anything except your growth Janine you don't need um you don't need a father you're

[00:45:24] grown you don't have to have that if you if that's not for you now some people who desire that

[00:45:28] that's cool too but you know finding out that he was neglectful or like a deadbeat or an awful

[00:45:34] person it probably wouldn't do great for your spirit either so take this as a win um and then

[00:45:39] move on you know and try and love yourself you don't need to get that love from outside source

[00:45:44] yeah I don't I just don't necessarily think that like it adds anything to Janine's character

[00:45:52] know who her dad is or that like um like there's going to be anything added to like her growth by

[00:46:00] knowing maybe and you know for some people yeah when they um it could be a positive change to

[00:46:06] their life to know uh their absentee parent if they're that parent is receptive to getting to

[00:46:13] know them but I'm also kind of on the side of you like I don't need to deal with any more heartbreak

[00:46:17] either and I don't I don't think that it necessarily adds anything to the show to be

[00:46:23] like people are magically finding out who their absentee parent is like the show is strong with

[00:46:28] us having characters that don't know who they're like who uh like their dad is or not having like

[00:46:35] their uh parent like a parent in their life like it gives us a little bit of diversity and I think

[00:46:41] that's some like positive representation in there as well seeing characters be successful

[00:46:47] without both parents in their lives right and we talk a lot about dad to me in this episode because

[00:46:53] it's Kevin Hart obviously um but it's Mother's Day it's Mother's Day and we learn a little bit

[00:46:59] more about Barbara and Gregory so we find out that Gregory lost his mom at a very young age

[00:47:05] and he doesn't really love celebrating Mother's Day because talk constantly talking about his mom

[00:47:10] will remind him about you know what it'll make him sad honestly and Barbara has lost her mom as well

[00:47:17] but she's taking a different approach to grieving she wants to surround herself by family and really

[00:47:22] encourage other people to express their love to their mothers which I think they're two

[00:47:26] very valid ways of grieving and bereavement and all that good stuff but then they start to clash

[00:47:32] because when Melissa and Barbara see that Gregory's wall decoration for his kids for his

[00:47:39] students is lackluster or not up to their liking they go and they go and confront him and end up

[00:47:44] inviting him to Barbara's house for uh Mother's Day like a meal right a Mother's Day feast the

[00:47:52] moment they did this the moment it happened Gia I immediately says I wonder if his ex-girlfriend

[00:47:58] is gonna be there because that would be awkward and then boom next thing you know Gregory meets

[00:48:03] Taylor in Barbara's uh living room and I was my mouth was on the floor I I was like I cannot

[00:48:07] believe Abbott's gonna do this I could not believe that they like first of all the fact that they

[00:48:14] didn't bring it up when the invite was extended because I was like they're like she's gonna be

[00:48:20] there right like it's Mother's Day like she's she's gonna be there um and she was with her

[00:48:27] new boyfriend and just no one no one even mentioned it or acknowledged it was just weird it was a

[00:48:33] weird thing and that's not even the weirdest thing that happened to this group of group of individuals

[00:48:38] this episode no no so the the feast is the feast is kind of weird because you got a lot of frenetic

[00:48:45] energy from Barbara she wants to have the feast she wants to do everything for everybody she's

[00:48:49] trying to dote and mother everybody in this Mother's Day but Mother's Day is supposed to be

[00:48:53] for her too she's supposed to be able to enjoy Mother's Day but she's too busy baking and putting

[00:48:58] out fires and helping the kids and trying to get Gregory introduced to everybody Melissa's looking

[00:49:03] on and kind of watching Barbara bounce off the walls this entire time but they are able to settle

[00:49:09] down for a meal and yeah this is when it gets very awkward because Barbara makes the meal basically

[00:49:16] all about Gregory under the the intention of hey let me try to cheer him up by honoring his mother

[00:49:22] in these moments and I could see that Gregory just wanted to rip his skin off and run out of

[00:49:28] the room you know he was so uncomfortable and this was kind of hard to watch it was

[00:49:34] it it was awkward because this is and like also you know uh something that could have big I think

[00:49:40] they could have driven home a little harder here is that this is the first Mother's Day Barbara has

[00:49:45] without her mother I believe whereas uh Gregory has had time to adapt to the fact that like his

[00:49:53] mom is not alive right like he um has had many Mother's Days where she was not around um and

[00:50:03] so he he has come up with his own kind of coping mechanisms here and he is being reintroduced to

[00:50:10] like to someone else's trauma and by proxy his own by the fact that like Barbara just lost her

[00:50:17] mother as well um it was very awkward um I think her her family members Barbara's family members

[00:50:26] their husband and I think it's her sister um made up for it with just how over the top they were

[00:50:34] this entire time but I enjoyed it yeah yeah so Barbara has she said her mom she lost her mom a

[00:50:41] few years ago but it still feels like it's fresher but to your point then Gregory's right Gregory

[00:50:48] lost his mom 20 years ago you know and so he's been coping for a very long time where it's like

[00:50:53] it feels like Barbara's still trying to get a hold of it she is surrounded by her family which is

[00:50:58] nice but she's now making her family surround Gregory I have been to functions the praying

[00:51:06] functions you know the kind where you're in a room and you're you're religious but you don't

[00:51:11] stay you do not hold a candle to the religious people around you they are way more religious

[00:51:15] than you they know God better than you they're very good friends with Jesus as well and um they

[00:51:20] are going to pray for you specifically and I whoo I don't know I don't know who directed this episode

[00:51:28] but they've been there before you know like you got you have to put yourself in a special place

[00:51:32] where you are seeing people do good things and nice things for you and something that out the

[00:51:36] kind of your heart you just don't want it at all you know you're like I just don't want this I

[00:51:41] want to be left alone he wants to go to topless golf he doesn't want to be there

[00:51:44] not topless top off my bad typo or something the like I knew exactly where this was going

[00:51:57] when they asked Gregory if uh his family are huggers um Chappelle your family huggers

[00:52:04] my family's a hug they're the huggers they're the hugger family you can call them that

[00:52:08] nope absolutely not I I love we do a side hug will suffice oh no my family will tackle you

[00:52:15] but it will tackle you through a wall if you try to resist the hug so I have a big family

[00:52:20] love them very much um I think a side hug is usually what is called for and then we can move

[00:52:26] on with our day move on with the festivities um so when they did like the hug for again um a loss of

[00:52:34] 20 years ago um I felt that pain and Gregory like right here even talking about it now I like feel

[00:52:41] my heart like just like a little bit like oh my like I don't think I could do that it's so

[00:52:46] uncomfortable I don't I don't like new people hugging me without my consent like they were

[00:52:52] they know they meant well and they were trying to like you know welcome him into the family but

[00:52:59] like if they could welcome him into the family a little less I would appreciate that I do love

[00:53:05] though that we are seeing more of Gerald um uh Barbara's husband like yeah me too he's a nerd

[00:53:12] like he's a goofball like he's just as uh he's just as like over the top and into like uh you

[00:53:20] know like as big of a believer as big as uh um lover of God a lover of like the church and lover

[00:53:29] of like his family as Barbara is so like they're adorable together but he has also got his own

[00:53:36] eccentricities um and I love him for it more eccentric black men on TV yep Abbott look Abbott

[00:53:45] everything we need and Gerald cannot be the only two Mr. Johnson, Gerald, and Tariq the big three

[00:53:51] of Abbott Elementary yeah right the spin-off right the spin-off right now I know I would watch a

[00:53:57] buddy comedy with those three like a road trip oh yeah they're all around like it could be like uh

[00:54:03] Tariq and his granddad and his granddad's friend or something like that like it it's work it's a

[00:54:09] work in progress but like I would watch it yeah so my family they're the huggers they we like we

[00:54:15] love a good hug but see our thing is that we adopt people immediately like if you come to a family

[00:54:20] function welcome to this family function when will you be at the next one you know like that's

[00:54:24] where we start to okay pull up your google calendar let me tell you when all the future

[00:54:28] events are going to be and so I relate to that energy a lot from Barbara like if you show up at

[00:54:32] my at any of our family functions the next function at least four people are going to ask where you

[00:54:37] went like where is that person we really love them they're going to add you on facebook it's

[00:54:40] just how we get down I don't I'm sorry maybe it's a Texas thing uh but at the same time they cannot

[00:54:47] adopt Gregory into this family him and Taylor had a bad breakup and she's still right there you know

[00:54:52] she he's not allowed to join this family so I felt awkward for so many reasons watching this um

[00:54:59] but you know you could tell their heart was in a good place ultimately Barbara will realize and

[00:55:04] Melissa helps her get there but she realizes that she was maybe being a little bit overbearing

[00:55:08] and that she hadn't actually sat in enjoyed her mother's day for what it was for her right so she

[00:55:14] does go to Topgolf and have a few uh home runs with Gregory and really apologizing him about

[00:55:22] the way she was trying to force him to live in her traditions when he has his own mother's day

[00:55:26] tradition so it was very touching yeah this was a really nice one I think also just the again like

[00:55:33] we there are certain duos that we don't get a ton of and I think like Barbara has her set people

[00:55:39] so we don't always get a lot of like meaningful moments like this between like Barbara and Gregory

[00:55:45] but this is like a good this is a good pair this is a good storyline to kind of flesh out

[00:55:52] and learn a little bit more about both of their families I think it makes sense we haven't really

[00:55:57] even seen Gregory like mention his mom in the past so there was a lot unsaid about whether you know

[00:56:04] like if she's not in the pit we could assume that there she was not with the um Gregory's dad anymore

[00:56:11] because we've seen Gregory's dad but not his mom um but like just wondering kind of what that family

[00:56:17] dynamic is like and now we're starting to get a little bit more about Gregory we get to see

[00:56:22] actually some of Barbara's family um and I think it makes sense it's like starting to put all the

[00:56:28] pieces together it was good it was a good episode let's not give too much credit to Melissa though

[00:56:32] because she was there for the mess she was not there what like she supported Barbara when she

[00:56:38] was stressed out but she was not there to be helpful at any point and she's right about that

[00:56:45] actually I would say of the families we have known so far my family would be the Schimendtis um

[00:56:51] I showed a lot of y'all there is a lot of us um now my dad does not drink so this would not apply

[00:56:58] to like his side of the family but I showed this episode to my mom and the line where they said uh

[00:57:05] we celebrate Mother's Day by getting drunk as a family so I can't show up like that is that is uh

[00:57:11] that is me and my mother for Mother's Day you know we had we had several glasses of wine and yes I do

[00:57:17] mean seven and several glasses of wine watch some Abbott some Food Network shows and had a grand

[00:57:24] old time no the Schimendtis are the family to watch for sure but we haven't talked about the

[00:57:29] other mothers do you sorry I didn't mean to cut you off oh no no you're fine I really want to

[00:57:35] see the rest of the Schimendtis like at some point especially Seamus um there were a lot of Seamus

[00:57:40] Seamus uh throwbacks in there but we did not get Christa Marie yet this season I would love to meet

[00:57:46] more of the Schimendtis in there yeah let's put a pin in that and see if we can track it for next

[00:57:50] season because I don't think they're going to be in this season at all there's only two more episodes

[00:57:53] left so I doubt it um but but the other mothers have arrived okay Jacob goes to a drag brunch

[00:58:04] it was it's Mother Day I believe is what it's called uh and he he's there with Erica and Janine

[00:58:11] because obviously Janine's not going to be celebrating with her mom and Jacob's going to be

[00:58:16] he wants to do the drag thing and so he goes uh and we've talked about Abbott having money

[00:58:23] okay we've had Kevin Hart we've had Questlove I mean we I mean you know we've had so many

[00:58:30] so many people so many but then I look up and I'm like I recognize that drag queen and I

[00:58:39] didn't keep up with drag queens like that so you know this is a megastar I was like is that

[00:58:44] is that Shea Coulee is that Simone they have both of them on there when we get Shea Coulee money Gia

[00:58:50] we've had Shea Coulee money I think the uh once we went listen once uh Bradley Cooper was on there

[00:58:56] I felt like all the possibilities um Jalen Hurst all of them like was once that one season three

[00:59:03] premiere came on I'm like we have funds this season we have the funding we have the money

[00:59:11] I'm so glad and you know there have been several requests for Abbott to have drag queen cameos like

[00:59:19] you know Drag Race is more popular than ever I think it makes sense you know a lot of them are

[00:59:26] stars not just from their time in Drag Race but like stars on social media stars for their work

[00:59:32] outside of Drag Race like they are stars so they're like another I want to say like another type of

[00:59:38] celebrity like you know like they're like a new not new drag is not new but I feel like there is a

[00:59:46] dedicated fan base to Drag Race that want to see their queens and other works as they should and we

[00:59:52] are getting them in Abbott Elementary so I had a feeling we would get Drag Race cameos at some

[00:59:58] point but this one it kind of like I was like oh my god like that just that hit me right away

[01:00:04] like that is uh I was I was not expecting it but I am so glad we got it here and it was very fun to

[01:00:11] see yep we have uh Shea Coulee as Lisa Kondo and Simone as Divine Intervention as our celebrity

[01:00:19] drag uh queens and I again I don't even watch Drag Race it's just in that reality tv sphere

[01:00:25] that I found myself in I see a lot of reality tv shows I've seen Drag Race before for sure

[01:00:30] um but even I recognize it oh like those aren't just regular drag queens those aren't your run-of-the-mill

[01:00:35] drag queens these are mega stars and so uh yeah somewhere the drag community is like fist pumping

[01:00:41] because I did I looked I had to go look at reddit and I saw there have been posts before where

[01:00:46] people were saying oh well maybe drag uh queens could come on in this capacity in Abbott in this

[01:00:51] capacity in Abbott and I think that yeah this this show is so fun and it made so much sense for

[01:00:57] this kind of um brunch to happen for someone like Jacob to be watching because Jacob you know

[01:01:03] Jacob seems like he's in for a good time and so yeah they were fun and they even helped Jacob

[01:01:08] solve one of his problems in this episode because Jacob wants to throw a field trip but we don't have

[01:01:14] field trip money that's one thing we do not have we are in the black or the red or whichever one

[01:01:18] means that we don't have any money the red we're in the red we are in the red we're in the red

[01:01:23] um but it was it was a great time um I did love did you see the uh what the PTA banner

[01:01:32] stood for no what was it it was um parents throwing ass yeah so Tariq is hosting the PTA

[01:01:41] meeting Jacob has to go ask for money and parent throwing ass is what we're calling the new PTA club

[01:01:47] the PTA meeting because they it needs to be a club that parents will actually want to join

[01:01:52] and therefore by uh 2027 quarter four we will begin to see a profit um quarter four

[01:02:00] quarter four honestly um is it the best executed plan no what I kind of see his point here

[01:02:09] yeah yeah like who wants to join a PTA like that I'm sorry it's just like if there if there's not

[01:02:15] free food free snacks I am not going um now if you told me that it is nigiri um I will be there

[01:02:23] I will be there real quick I'd love me some sushi it is pretty messed up that that Tariq

[01:02:30] is misappropriating these funds to to make sure that the PTA is eating uh sushi adjacent foods

[01:02:36] while the kids are struggling to go on field trips but also if it works we're all better off

[01:02:42] I would argue that this is the exact appropriate way to be using funds because you know

[01:02:47] it's a thankless job it's not even a job because you don't get paid to do it you know like his

[01:02:53] plan worked there are parents present at the PTA meeting it's usually just like one or two really

[01:03:00] really annoying people um yeah so like you know it's just like the Karens that just want to have

[01:03:05] control over something because they've lost control of their life with their bratty kids so yeah I

[01:03:10] have feelings about I have feelings about Karens and PTA so now it's like fun people want to join

[01:03:15] the PTA right if there's ass to be thrown people gonna be there and I'm definitely one of people

[01:03:21] I'm just saying like this made me almost want to have kids almost almost which is closer than

[01:03:28] it's ever been because one day I too could be at a parent throwing ass meeting yes I think I would

[01:03:34] go the Tariq route though I would be like yeah I would um would date a parent and have like a

[01:03:41] Gia Jr. they would I assume they would change their name right right we could push for it yeah

[01:03:48] the the other thing that happens obviously at the drag brunch is that Jacob realizes that there are

[01:03:55] certain things that you can do for free that you could really use for a field trip um and the park

[01:04:00] is always free literally always and so Shea Coulee gives uh Jacob the idea and he decides to go book

[01:04:07] the park for uh the future field trip that we will see in the next episode of Abbot Elementary

[01:04:13] but in the meantime that wraps up these two episodes did I miss anything Gia? I didn't know

[01:04:19] you had to book a park. I think so yeah I think it's just like uh maybe like you got a reserve

[01:04:26] kind of like you know like the gazebo area kind of situation it's smart but I just never heard of

[01:04:32] such a thing maybe because like I don't live in a I don't live in Philadelphia I live in uh

[01:04:37] the the uh the parks that you warn kids about um yeah yes yes um but you know it's home it's home

[01:04:47] we love it and so but you know you don't have to make reservations there but I am so excited because

[01:04:53] we're getting another field trip episode so I feel like this is a seasonal thing we had um

[01:04:59] the zoo the Philadelphia Zoo in season one we had the um the museum the science museum in season two

[01:05:08] and now we are going to the park the another Philly what's it called like landscape another

[01:05:16] Philly landmarks yeah just we're just leaving we're leaving the school you know yes we're going

[01:05:22] we're going off campus um and I am so excited for the field trip episode I love a good field trip

[01:05:28] we all love field trips but I am very excited to see this right to me it felt like you have

[01:05:33] to reserve maybe like the seating area and they're taking all the kids like because all

[01:05:37] their all the all the teachers teach different classes you know like uh there's no reason where

[01:05:41] Gregory's kids and you know Melissa's kids and Barbara's kids will all be at the park at the

[01:05:45] same time unless you literally have to say okay no outsiders at this park which of course you would

[01:05:50] want right you would definitely not want another school showing up and rattling the cages or taking

[01:05:56] anybody's spot or you know pushing your kids out of line you wouldn't want any of that do you

[01:06:02] I mean as a parent or a teacher um you would not want that um as viewers on a tv show um

[01:06:12] I might want to see teachers fighting teachers you know just a little bit

[01:06:17] yep teaching fighting teachers which is what we could have in the next episode but in the meantime

[01:06:22] Gia this has been fun episodes 11 and 12 are a wrap very fun episodes I enjoyed them but I'm dying

[01:06:30] to see how this season of Abbot Elementary ends so uh Gia what you got going on in the meantime
