[00:01:13] What's up, fam? Welcome back again to Recap Kickback. It's me, your host Chappelle, and I am here again to talk to you about this week in Black Entertainment News

[00:01:21] and to recap what our television show slash movie of the week is. And this time, uh, it's a special treat. We have Cross on Amazon Prime episodes one and two.

[00:01:32] So if you haven't already watched the show, go check it out. Or if you don't plan on watching it, listen to us talk to you about it.

[00:01:38] Cause we're gonna break down the first two episodes. It's not gonna be too spoilery because the first two episodes don't get into the nitty gritty,

[00:01:44] but we'll get to all of that and later on, you can definitely stay here and check out this podcast.

[00:01:49] Cause with me, per usual, got my co-host, uh, Cross the Boss over here. It's Marty Ford.

[00:01:56] I am so excited. Like, first off, we have Jason back, but that's not excited about that.

[00:02:02] Yeah!

[00:02:03] Hey, listen, he needs no introduction. Jason Reed, welcome back.

[00:02:09] Hey, what's up y'all? Happy, happy to be here. Uh, kind of surprised to me how you know,

[00:02:13] it was like a last minute, uh, podcast sub and for Cross. I'm excited to come and talk again with y'all on the recap pickback.

[00:02:20] I haven't been back since the new format change. So happy to, uh, happy to be here. Happy to be a back on recap.

[00:02:27] And the reason why I'm excited is cause Jason read all of the cross books just like I did.

[00:02:32] But then I kind of like, I, I, I dropped the ball on the last few because what had happened was I, I read all of the up until which one was it Jason? 20. Uh, well, kill Alex cross. That's like the 20th book. Something like that.

[00:02:49] I think that's like 30 something at this point. They're up to 30 now. I stopped at 20. Okay.

[00:02:54] Because yes, because I was, I was reading the books, but then I got to a point where I could no longer read books like that.

[00:03:02] So I started listening to books. I couldn't listen to. So that's how I read books is I listen. Yeah.

[00:03:08] So you like the narrative, the narrative. I love it. I love it. That's it. That's that ups the experience for me, especially because like with the, with the cross books, especially they got to a point where they started using one narrator for every character.

[00:03:24] But in the last few books though, they now have it almost like a play, like almost like an audio play.

[00:03:31] Okay. That's what I love. I love that. Um, so yeah, well, so the last cross book, uh,

[00:03:38] you know, all the cross books are Alice cross must something. Alice cross must die. Alice cross on trial.

[00:03:43] Uh, there is another one coming out later this month, which is the house of cross. So that one is coming out at the end of November.

[00:03:52] Um, so yeah, I'm excited. I just recently finished the last cross book, like right before this series came out.

[00:03:57] So I'm up to date all across stuff. Uh, you know, I'm a sucker for goods for story for character.

[00:04:03] So, you know, I can't start a series and not end it. That's just kind of my, that's like my obsessive personality taking over.

[00:04:10] I cannot start. I can't not end something that has an ending.

[00:04:14] Yeah. No, that's a lie because I get that fixation where it's like, if I get fixated on it, I have to finish it.

[00:04:21] But now if you lose my interest and I it's done, it's forever. It's, it's, you know, you're not finished.

[00:04:27] D and F, you know, most for me, most stuff, even if you, even if it starts sucking, I can't stop. Like I didn't stop walking dead. I didn't stop.

[00:04:36] Yeah. We are not the same. We are not the same.

[00:04:40] Yeah. We have plenty of time to talk about the cross, but I have questions now that I know that you two are learned in this literature.

[00:04:48] Uh, but I first want to thank the listeners, of course, for being here.

[00:04:51] Make sure you subscribe to the podcast. If you haven't already, if this is your first time checking us out, this is what we do.

[00:04:56] We talk about black entertainment, news, uh, television, movies, music, whatever comes up.

[00:05:00] And then we talk about whatever else we want to talk about that piques our interest.

[00:05:03] You just get our black ass point of view on it a lot of times. Okay.

[00:05:05] So, uh, make sure you hit that like button on YouTube, subscribe youtube.com slash at recap kickback, or you can subscribe on all platforms recap kickback.com slash subscribe to make sure that you're a part of the conversation and that you're giving the feedback, uh, to the podcast.

[00:05:20] We're even on blue sky, you know? So, uh, yeah, the long blue sky handle recap kickback, uh, at slash blue dot b sky dot social b sky dot social.

[00:05:35] Yeah. That follow us on all social media platforms at recap kickback.

[00:05:40] So you can keep up with all stuff we have going on, uh, because we're trying to make the podcast grow and we need your help.

[00:05:46] Uh, and shoot us some five star reviews while you're at it. We only take five star reviews.

[00:05:49] I know other podcasts allow you to get four stars, four and a half. We don't really see those.

[00:05:54] Our algorithm is not made like that. So just keep that in mind when you're telling us about how you feel about recap kickback.

[00:05:59] Cause we love it here. Right. And we want to keep this thing going.

[00:06:01] Um, like we said, cross is coming later on, but we do have to talk about the news of the week and we didn't do news last week.

[00:06:08] We had to spend the entire time dedicated to our beauty and black coverage, which is getting rave reviews on YouTube.

[00:06:15] Mari, that might one of the funniest podcasts I've ever done bar none.

[00:06:20] I have never laughed so hard. Like it would, if I'm glad you two were there because if it was just like, if it was just like us two, we probably would have had to stop the podcast because I was crying laughing so hard.

[00:06:35] Like I was like, I'm glad they can, they can keep going because I'm done.

[00:06:40] Like I just got to a point where I'm like, I am done.

[00:06:43] I can't speak. It was so fun.

[00:06:46] Our special guest, Matt Scott was in rare form. Okay.

[00:06:49] I mean, that was, I mean, give the man his Emmy.

[00:06:52] That was his, uh, that's his biggest performance of all time.

[00:06:55] Jason, did you watch beauty and black on Netflix?

[00:06:57] I have not seen it yet. It's like, it's on the list, uh, the ever growing list of things nowadays that are just so it's overwhelming, but it is, it is on there.

[00:07:06] It's just, it's got, it's got to happen at some point.

[00:07:08] Okay. Here's a pro tip from your boy.

[00:07:10] You same way you read these cross books.

[00:07:15] Just listen to the podcast about beauty and black.

[00:07:19] We're going to give you a good, concise, um, idea of what exactly happens.

[00:07:25] We cover the entire season and, uh, not to spoil it, but there's a season two coming too.

[00:07:30] So, uh, just listen to us.

[00:07:31] It'll catch you up for season two, whenever the time comes.

[00:07:34] Um, but in the meantime, we do have more news to talk about you guys.

[00:07:38] Um, and, uh, we have to get into it.

[00:07:40] Quincy Jones passed away.

[00:07:42] Uh, Quincy Jones, pop mastermind and thriller producer dies at 91.

[00:07:48] Um, this is a big news.

[00:07:50] Obviously a lot of people were very surprised, very sad.

[00:07:52] Uh, 91 is nothing to, you know, nothing to slouch at.

[00:07:56] I mean, that's, that's, that's a long life, but the legacy of Quincy Jones, I mean, it's

[00:08:01] a pop mastermind and thriller producer, but that's just kind of like, it's just the quickest

[00:08:06] version of saying like, this man is a genius who did everything in every aspect of music

[00:08:12] for such a long time.

[00:08:13] So consistent.

[00:08:15] Um, uh, uh, now past legend that we have, uh, the memory of Quincy Jones lives on in so

[00:08:21] much of the music that we know and love today.

[00:08:23] Uh, Jason, I, I feel like you have some background on Quincy Jones as well.

[00:08:31] Yeah, I, I, I totally do.

[00:08:35] Like you said, he's, he's known a lot for music for like, you know, producing a lot of Michael

[00:08:40] Jackson's hits, uh, being part of the, we are the world thing, uh, back in the day, but

[00:08:45] he's also in like, he's has his hands in TV.

[00:08:48] He's a bit, he was a big driver force between the first Prince of Belair.

[00:08:51] Yeah.

[00:08:52] He did.

[00:08:52] Uh, I think he was like, well, I was reading about him.

[00:08:55] Like my TV was a baby of his.

[00:08:57] I didn't even know that.

[00:08:58] Uh, you know, the father, the father of Rashida Jones, who I think is, I think is not really

[00:09:02] known by a lot of people.

[00:09:04] Like I think a lot of people would be surprised to know that Rashida Jones of, you know, parking,

[00:09:08] parks and rec fame, uh, is his daughter.

[00:09:10] Like now a lot of black people are.

[00:09:12] Right.

[00:09:13] So I think we'd be surprised at that.

[00:09:15] So I think, I think you've heard the name Quincy Jones, but you haven't really associated

[00:09:20] a lot with him.

[00:09:21] Like everyone knows the name, but you don't know a lot about what he brought to the entertainment

[00:09:26] world as a whole.

[00:09:27] Yeah.

[00:09:28] Um, I mean, people always talk about, uh, about, you know, his contribution to Michael

[00:09:32] Jackson, obviously thriller, one of the biggest, uh, hits of all time, but also one of the

[00:09:37] biggest albums, the biggest selling album of all time.

[00:09:40] Um, if I'm not mistaken, um, Jason mentioned, we are the world, uh, number one hit in 1985.

[00:09:45] Also the, we are the world, uh, documentary on Netflix, isn't it?

[00:09:50] The greatest night in pop.

[00:09:51] The greatest night in pots.

[00:09:52] I believe it's award nominated at this point.

[00:09:54] So even, uh, freaking good.

[00:09:55] Even in his death, he's still racking up accomplishments.

[00:09:59] Uh, my favorite Quincy Jones memory, and this is going to sound awful, but it's from

[00:10:04] the boondocks.

[00:10:05] Uh, he's helping, uh, Huey Freeman, uh, do, I guess the Christmas play at the school.

[00:10:10] Yeah.

[00:10:10] And, um, the kids are dancing around like the peanuts gang.

[00:10:14] And, uh, Huey has a vision.

[00:10:16] He has a very specific vision.

[00:10:17] And, um, the kids are like, you know, he was yelling at them, like stop all the goddamn

[00:10:22] dancing.

[00:10:22] And then looking at him, like, what, what's wrong with him?

[00:10:24] And then they look at Quincy Jones.

[00:10:26] He says, don't look at Quincy Jones.

[00:10:27] Quincy Jones can't help you.

[00:10:29] Yeah.

[00:10:29] I think about that every time I hear this man's name.

[00:10:32] We, it's such a big loss for us.

[00:10:34] I just feel like we've been taking some L's in the community, uh, these last couple of

[00:10:37] weeks.

[00:10:37] Don't you think?

[00:10:39] Yeah.

[00:10:39] Yeah.

[00:10:40] I mean, it's, it's to the point where it's just kind of like, I don't want to get on

[00:10:44] here every week and talk about what legend we've lost.

[00:10:49] Like the hits keep on coming, but like, you gotta send one up for, like you said, just a

[00:10:56] genius, a, a, a musical mastermind of legendary blabbermouth at the end of his life as well.

[00:11:04] He, he loves a good gossip at the end there.

[00:11:06] Quincy got the tea.

[00:11:06] Okay.

[00:11:08] You want to get messy.

[00:11:09] Go look up Quincy Jones in recent interviews.

[00:11:12] Okay.

[00:11:12] Go look up Quincy Jones.

[00:11:14] Quincy Jones might have the special you need.

[00:11:16] You know what I'm saying?

[00:11:16] When you get up in the late eighties, you just don't give a F anymore.

[00:11:20] You're just like, F it.

[00:11:21] I must, I must spill all the tea.

[00:11:22] I must spill all the secrets.

[00:11:23] No one's safe.

[00:11:25] Honestly, I don't blame them.

[00:11:27] Do what you want to do.

[00:11:27] You know, Quincy Jones out here, uh, telling the good truths, the bad truths, the ugly truths.

[00:11:32] And, uh, I was here for it all.

[00:11:33] So, you know, shout out to one of the goats.

[00:11:35] Speaking of goats.

[00:11:36] Uh, we have some big news from, uh, one of the greatest of all time.

[00:11:40] One of our, our currently living legends, uh, Dental Washington.

[00:11:43] Uh, he kind of shook the world the other day when people assumed that he was, uh, retiring

[00:11:48] from acting in the near future.

[00:11:50] And he also said that, uh, he will be working on the black Panther three as one of his last

[00:11:55] movies before he retires.

[00:11:56] Now he later on goes and tells people like, why did they retire?

[00:12:00] I mean like today, you know what I'm saying?

[00:12:01] Yeah.

[00:12:04] I think he told Jimmy Kimmel, I'm five, six other movies that I need to do.

[00:12:09] You know what I'm saying?

[00:12:09] And that's not really something that happens in one year.

[00:12:11] And then I'm a move behind the camera as well.

[00:12:14] Uh, Mari.

[00:12:15] I think Denzel, he's, he's reached that age too, where he just don't care no more.

[00:12:20] Exactly.

[00:12:20] Because like, he literally just like, yeah, I'm gonna be a black Panther three.

[00:12:24] Like, was he supposed to say that?

[00:12:27] Like, I don't even know.

[00:12:28] I don't think he was supposed to reveal that.

[00:12:31] But I feel like that was probably news.

[00:12:33] Like Kevin Feige who runs Marvel.

[00:12:35] He's like, wait, he is.

[00:12:37] It just felt like Denzel was like, no, I haven't talked to anybody about it, but I'm

[00:12:40] going to be a black Panther three.

[00:12:42] That's just, that's it.

[00:12:43] Like, I don't, I don't need to talk to anybody.

[00:12:45] I'm saying I'm going to be in it.

[00:12:47] So I'm going to be in it.

[00:12:47] He said Ryan's writing him apart right now.

[00:12:50] Yeah.

[00:12:50] I mean, if Denzel Washington says you doing something, don't you just do it?

[00:12:54] Like if he said, Chappelle's covering the black Panther three, I'd be like, okay, well,

[00:12:57] shit, I guess I got to, you know?

[00:12:59] He called Ryan Cooler was like, you're gonna put me in black Panther three.

[00:13:02] And that's that Ryan was probably like, yeah, sure.

[00:13:05] He's not gonna say no.

[00:13:08] Get to writing.

[00:13:09] Um, Jason, you're very familiar with the Marvel cinematic universe.

[00:13:13] What the hell is this role that he's going to have?

[00:13:16] I hate Denzel is going to be a Wakandan.

[00:13:19] Is he?

[00:13:19] Oh yeah.

[00:13:20] I mean the black, the black Panther mythos is full of like elders that don't agree with

[00:13:26] how either T'Challa or whoever's in charge of Wakanda at the moment is running things.

[00:13:31] So I think it would be a very easy role to slip into who were like Denzel's like an elder

[00:13:36] that doesn't like how Wakanda is being run.

[00:13:38] So he's going to try and take over Wakanda or whatever.

[00:13:40] There's a lot of things you can do with Denzel.

[00:13:42] Obviously he is supremely versatile.

[00:13:45] So whatever role you want to put him in, whether it be an advisor or there be an elder that

[00:13:49] doesn't like things how they're running right now, it's going to be super easy and seamless

[00:13:53] to put him into to that, that tapestry of Wakanda or whatever the role he's going to be.

[00:13:58] So I'm not surprised at all that Denzel wants to be in this.

[00:14:02] Cause I mean, it's, listen, it's a white Panther movie.

[00:14:06] So not surprised he wants to be in it and not surprised that, you know, it's going to happen.

[00:14:10] Like all he needed to do was say, I'm doing it.

[00:14:13] And that's it.

[00:14:14] I'll be there.

[00:14:15] He also said something about, I think, two more equalizer films as well as we know gladiator

[00:14:20] 2 is coming.

[00:14:21] So he's got a lot of big roles coming his way.

[00:14:24] I didn't realize that we needed four and five equalizers, but it's so surprising to me because

[00:14:31] you know, Denzel doesn't do a whole lot of sequels.

[00:14:34] The fact that he chose equalizer to be his like sequel factory is really interesting.

[00:14:39] I don't know if you guys have watched the other, the equalizer movies.

[00:14:43] The queen is evil one.

[00:14:45] Oh, that's a TV show.

[00:14:47] Yeah.

[00:14:48] Well, like, sorry.

[00:14:50] Yeah.

[00:14:50] I mean, it's the same.

[00:14:51] It's the same premise pretty much.

[00:14:53] But for Denzel, like equalizer three is just like, you know, Denzel, he's an older

[00:14:58] gentleman.

[00:14:59] It's just like, Hey, Jason, let him get his Liam Neeson on.

[00:15:03] If Liam Neeson can limp around.

[00:15:06] They were at one point.

[00:15:08] They were putting him in planes and trains doing the exact same thing.

[00:15:13] Sure.

[00:15:13] Liam Neeson is like the, is the transportation violence guy.

[00:15:18] Like I can F you up on a bus.

[00:15:20] I can F you up on a train.

[00:15:22] I can F you up on any.

[00:15:23] Yes, I can.

[00:15:24] I am.

[00:15:25] Right.

[00:15:26] Exactly.

[00:15:26] So yeah.

[00:15:27] Denzel is doing his best.

[00:15:29] I ain't mad at it.

[00:15:30] It's just, you can tell in like equalizer three, it's like the way he moves, like

[00:15:34] they have to cut around his moving all the time.

[00:15:36] It's like, okay, we get it.

[00:15:38] So by the time he did equalizer, I don't know how, how good it's going to look, but it's

[00:15:43] Denzel.

[00:15:43] He could sit in a chair and say and do anything.

[00:15:46] We would all flock to the flock to the theater to go see.

[00:15:49] I'm, I'm super psyched to see him in gladiator two coming up.

[00:15:52] Which is.

[00:15:53] Yeah.

[00:15:54] I have no clue what that movie is about.

[00:15:57] I mean, like gladiators, but like, is it.

[00:16:00] Did you watch the first gladiator?

[00:16:02] 20 years ago.

[00:16:03] Yeah.

[00:16:04] It's been a long time.

[00:16:05] You're not wrong.

[00:16:06] I think it's going to be similar.

[00:16:08] It's going to be pretty much the same.

[00:16:09] It's a gladiator one.

[00:16:10] I would imagine, but just with some Denzel sprinkled in, which I think everyone is,

[00:16:13] is very excited about, but yeah, I mean, listen, Denzel could say the phone book and

[00:16:18] we'd all be, we'd all be lining up to see it.

[00:16:21] Yeah.

[00:16:21] Um, I'm pretty sure he's on Broadway right now, or he's done on Broadway randomly whenever

[00:16:25] he wakes up in the morning, decides to go, you know, like again, if he knocks on the

[00:16:28] door and they just like, all right, let him in and let him do whatever role

[00:16:30] he wants.

[00:16:31] He's doing Othello.

[00:16:32] Really?

[00:16:33] That's what I was just about to say.

[00:16:34] He's doing Othello.

[00:16:35] Yeah.

[00:16:36] Just walking on sound studios.

[00:16:38] Like, Hey, can I get on?

[00:16:41] And be like, yeah, please.

[00:16:43] Yeah.

[00:16:44] We need you.

[00:16:45] Where have you been?

[00:16:47] I read somewhere that he hasn't auditioned for a role in like 30 years, you know, like

[00:16:52] why?

[00:16:53] I mean, why?

[00:16:54] Yeah.

[00:16:55] It's like, well, Denzel, I don't, I don't, I don't know, man.

[00:16:58] We might need to read for this part.

[00:17:00] He's like, read, sir.

[00:17:01] I'm doing it.

[00:17:02] Whoever said that, whoever says getting fired.

[00:17:05] He's like, all of this is make a call.

[00:17:07] Like you are fired for even like deeming to say, I need to audition for a role.

[00:17:11] Right.

[00:17:11] Well, you know, did you see him talking about his British accent?

[00:17:16] I was watching Kevin on stage talk about it.

[00:17:20] Like he was in.

[00:17:22] Oh, shoot.

[00:17:23] For Queen and Country back in 1988.

[00:17:26] And he was supposed to be like a British, a Brit, a black British dude.

[00:17:31] Oh, my God.

[00:17:33] I saw scenes from that type in like they they show Denzel Washington British accent in like YouTube.

[00:17:40] And it is the absolute worst.

[00:17:44] Like it was it was young Denzel doing the absolute worst British accent you will ever hear in your entire life.

[00:17:54] And the fact that he was able to just bounce back and have like a long career after that is like truly amazing because it was so bad.

[00:18:02] But if Denzel does even does something bad, are we allowed to say that it's bad?

[00:18:06] It was just like, well, go for it Denzel.

[00:18:08] We love you.

[00:18:09] We don't care.

[00:18:11] No, no, no, no, no, no, no.

[00:18:13] People didn't love fences.

[00:18:15] I think that was the last time I ever heard someone speak critically about Denzel Washington.

[00:18:19] Like there were some people who were like, I think he was good.

[00:18:22] I think fences was like, you know, it's kind of like a play and movie.

[00:18:25] I think, yeah, it's a lot.

[00:18:27] It was, you know, it was a lot.

[00:18:28] But as far as that, I think it's good.

[00:18:31] Yeah, I can't think of the Denzel Washington thing that I don't like.

[00:18:36] You know what I'm saying?

[00:18:36] Like that Denzel did.

[00:18:38] Like, what are we talking about?

[00:18:39] I think he just has a carte blanche to do whatever he wants.

[00:18:41] And I know if I watch it, it's gonna be decent.

[00:18:43] So I love Macbeth.

[00:18:45] I really did.

[00:18:48] Yeah, I think Macbeth is going to come up in our conversation about cross to for a split second.

[00:18:52] But we'll get to that later on.

[00:18:55] One other thing that I wanted to talk about that I thought Jason is uniquely equipped to help us with is that Sterling K. Brown is going to be in a new Hulu movie.

[00:19:08] It's a thriller and it's created by This Is Us' Dan Fogelman.

[00:19:13] And so, Jason, you are very familiar with This Is Us.

[00:19:18] So what do you think about this upcoming project?

[00:19:21] Spoiler alert!

[00:19:22] Yeah, I mean, I'm sorry if you could just guess which cast member gets murdered by the Crockpot at some point in This Is Us.

[00:19:30] Spoiler alert!

[00:19:32] There's only one very prominent death in This Is Us.

[00:19:33] This show is 15 years later, 15 years ago, y'all.

[00:19:37] You ain't watched it by now. I'm sorry.

[00:19:39] I guess I just spoiled fences too. Denzel Washington's in it.

[00:19:42] Jason, what should we be expecting?

[00:19:44] I mean, this is kind of a different stage than This Is Us.

[00:19:48] I mean, This Is Us was a very like tear-jerking, like drama type of thing.

[00:19:52] This seems to be more of a kind of like a thriller, maybe some action set pieces in here.

[00:19:57] So this is a little different.

[00:19:58] This is created by the same person that created This Is Us.

[00:20:00] So it's going to be, it's going to be some of that same DNA in it.

[00:20:04] But it feels like this is going to be a different, it's not a different type of role for Sterling.

[00:20:07] Because Sterling has done like a thousand different things.

[00:20:10] Like, you know.

[00:20:10] Yeah, so good.

[00:20:11] He's so versatile. I mean, almost similar to Denzel, he can pull off a lot.

[00:20:16] So I'm very interested to see what this is going to look like.

[00:20:20] If it has Sterling in it, I'm very confident in it.

[00:20:22] And I will at least give it a shot and check it out.

[00:20:26] So I'm 100% down.

[00:20:29] I recently watched Home for Jesus.

[00:20:32] I don't know if y'all saw that.

[00:20:33] So good.

[00:20:34] That was really epic and fun.

[00:20:36] Jonathan K Brown, you're in the nut of your buck.

[00:20:38] Yeah.

[00:20:39] Yeah.

[00:20:40] Yeah.

[00:20:40] Oh, that scene.

[00:20:41] And neither of them had heard that song before.

[00:20:44] Which is crazy.

[00:20:45] Yeah, that was him and Regina Hall.

[00:20:47] Like that was really fun.

[00:20:48] So I mean, Sterling is a treasure like, you know, in Hollywood.

[00:20:52] And I mean, for someone like him, who's so big now, I mean, he came back to do a this is us podcast retrospective with a couple of the other cast members.

[00:21:00] Like usually, typically those things are reserved for, you know, watch of actors that start trying to cash in on, you know, former fame.

[00:21:08] But he's doing like the podcast rewatch.

[00:21:10] So I think Sterling is someone that's always down for stuff.

[00:21:13] So I'm very excited to see what this is.

[00:21:15] I mean, it looks like in this, he's playing like a Secret Service agent who was like next to the president when something goes down, like, you know, with the president.

[00:21:22] So I think it's going to be going to be kind of like he's going to be suspected of something and he's going to have to run maybe run for his life.

[00:21:28] I don't know.

[00:21:28] So I am 100% in to see what this is.

[00:21:33] Yeah, he's a Secret Service agent.

[00:21:35] The president dies.

[00:21:36] And then, of course, because he's the head of the Secret Service or whatever, he was the last Secret Service person to see the president alive.

[00:21:42] It's James Marsden, by the way.

[00:21:43] But the last person to see him alive, he's suspect number one.

[00:21:46] And then we find out like, hey, by the way, there might be some other nefarious stuff going on in the background.

[00:21:52] So, you know, good, good on Sterling K. Brown, obviously getting this starring role in Hulu.

[00:21:56] And then this is potentially something we could talk about here on Recap Kickback, Mari.

[00:22:02] Yeah, I'm down for it.

[00:22:04] It'll be interesting to see how Dan Fogelman, you said this is a movie, right?

[00:22:08] This is a movie.

[00:22:09] Oh, yeah.

[00:22:10] It'll be interesting to see how he does in like a movie, like a feature film format and that.

[00:22:16] I'm not aware of any of his other movies.

[00:22:19] So that might just be a me thing.

[00:22:21] But yeah, I just know him for This Is Us.

[00:22:23] And what was that other?

[00:22:23] What was that other million little something?

[00:22:27] I don't know.

[00:22:28] Is there something like that?

[00:22:29] Something like that.

[00:22:31] Yeah.

[00:22:31] He wasn't.

[00:22:32] He was.

[00:22:33] He was.

[00:22:34] Dan Fogelman didn't do that.

[00:22:36] I thought he does.

[00:22:36] Oh, I thought you meant Sterling.

[00:22:38] No, I don't know if Dan Fogelman did the little whatever's.

[00:22:42] I don't know.

[00:22:43] I feel like he did another another sad TV show, but whatever.

[00:22:47] Yeah, I'm down.

[00:22:49] I'm down.

[00:22:50] Yeah.

[00:22:50] And apparently, apparently this is a series and they're going to drop three episodes on

[00:22:54] January 28th.

[00:22:55] And then they're going to release new episodes weekly after that because because that's

[00:22:59] what streaming does, right?

[00:23:00] They just roll three episodes at you and then you're halfway through the season by the time

[00:23:04] you started and then two weeks later, you're done and you have nothing else to talk about.

[00:23:07] I'm so sick of them.

[00:23:09] Not on not here for cross cross.

[00:23:11] They gave us all eight episodes.

[00:23:12] Look at them.

[00:23:13] I would prefer either eight episodes flat.

[00:23:15] Give me all of them or just give me a weekly release where we can go in, analyze episode,

[00:23:20] talk about it for a week and then get the next one.

[00:23:22] But these like three here, the way they did Belair this year was just egregious.

[00:23:27] They dropped like three episodes.

[00:23:28] Then they dropped three episodes again.

[00:23:29] They dropped two.

[00:23:30] Then they dropped one on one or something like that.

[00:23:32] I was like, what is we doing?

[00:23:33] Right.

[00:23:33] So stupid.

[00:23:35] Yeah.

[00:23:35] Stuff like Netflix.

[00:23:36] Yeah.

[00:23:37] What do you do with like Love is Blind?

[00:23:38] Where they do like six episodes up front and then three and then two and then one.

[00:23:43] It's like, this is so stupid, especially for podcast covers doing a six episode podcast.

[00:23:47] Like, oh, yeah, it's really ruining my life.

[00:23:50] Like it's making life so much harder to cover these shows because you want to stay on top of

[00:23:53] them while they're topical.

[00:23:54] But then, of course, you don't want to get left behind too much.

[00:23:57] And then you don't want to, you know, you don't want to get too ahead of people either.

[00:24:00] You want to give people a chance to watch it so we can talk about it.

[00:24:03] So exactly.

[00:24:05] Oh, no, right.

[00:24:06] We'll see how it goes.

[00:24:08] Yeah.

[00:24:09] Bring back.

[00:24:09] Bring back week to week.

[00:24:10] My favorite topic, Mari.

[00:24:12] What's coming soon?

[00:24:13] Yes, we have another one.

[00:24:14] A biopic.

[00:24:15] We got another one of those things.

[00:24:17] And I love a good biopic.

[00:24:19] This time, Boyz II Men.

[00:24:21] Biopic and documentary in the works.

[00:24:23] It celebrates over 30 years of R&B success.

[00:24:26] I feel like this is a long time coming.

[00:24:28] You know, Boyz II Men has been, I had multiple Vegas residencies.

[00:24:32] I think at any given time of the year, you could just pop up and they'll be just singing

[00:24:34] Let It Snow in Vegas for no reason.

[00:24:36] And so like the story career here for some icons and R&B.

[00:24:42] And anytime we talk about music, I love a music documentary.

[00:24:47] I love a music biopic because that's where you, it's kind of like, it's history in a weird way.

[00:24:52] You know, it's like, sure, we're talking about music, but it shows you a sign of the times.

[00:24:56] Right. And for Boyz II Men to be basically a bunch of church kids that went on to make secular music.

[00:25:01] And I use secular very loosely because the sexiest song they have is I'll make love to you.

[00:25:06] But, you know, they really do like shape the way a lot of these R&B groups of the 90s were moving back then.

[00:25:15] And so I'm very excited to see this.

[00:25:18] You know, the story of Nathan Sean, Wanye, et cetera, et cetera.

[00:25:22] Um, Mari, in my mind, I got to talk about this on Recap Kickback because we talk about so many biopics.

[00:25:29] But I'm hoping that this ranks up with some of the good ones because we've had some good ones, but we've had some not some good ones, too.

[00:25:35] Right. That's what I was about to say. Unless the people who did the new edition biopic does this, keep it because I truly think we got to go back to like the the biopic and like the big three part biopic format and not like a feature.

[00:25:55] You know, I'm saying some of the best ones that, you know, Jackson's it's like those are the best, the best ones.

[00:26:01] New edition being like that was like a two parter.

[00:26:05] But then if you add on the Bobby Brown one, two that they did, like almost right after the new edition one, like they need to start doing stuff like that.

[00:26:13] That new edition one is so good. Oh, my God.

[00:26:17] So like boys and men trying to put in a feature film.

[00:26:20] I just I feel like that might be I don't know.

[00:26:24] It's too much. But is there a lot of is there a lot of drama associated with the boys, man?

[00:26:28] Because like I don't like I don't think there's anything like now that I'm trying to think like I don't remember a lot of drama with them.

[00:26:36] So dramatic. His dramatic ass.

[00:26:39] Yeah, it's like a lot of scandal there.

[00:26:40] Yes, we have a lot of scandal.

[00:26:42] These were the church boys.

[00:26:44] We need to see it. No, we need to see a Dina Howard and Brandy fighting over Wanya.

[00:26:48] I'm sorry. Yeah, that's true.

[00:26:49] That's true.

[00:26:51] Boys, boys, men always hold a special place in my heart because like I grew up on boys, man.

[00:26:56] Like it was one of the one of the only things my mother would let me listen to.

[00:27:00] Like, you know, because my mother was a very like strict parent, like no curse words in your music, no this or that.

[00:27:06] And think back on it with the whole I'll make love to you thing.

[00:27:08] Like, why was that OK?

[00:27:09] But I'll have a several conversations with my mother about that later.

[00:27:13] But I was like, you know, they hold a very special place to me.

[00:27:17] Yeah, I mean, yeah.

[00:27:17] Yeah, it's a pretty PG-sex song, you know, like for like, especially for 90s R&B.

[00:27:23] Like Margie just name dropped the Dina Howard.

[00:27:25] Like there was they was doing there was some freaky freaks back then, too.

[00:27:28] You know, boys to me was just kind of like toeing the line with those types of songs.

[00:27:32] But they have so many big hits collaborations with Mariah Carey.

[00:27:37] Of course, the coolie harmony of it all.

[00:27:40] You know, just I mean, these these these brothers can sing.

[00:27:43] OK, that's that was their thing.

[00:27:45] Right. These brothers can sing and they could stand on just their voices.

[00:27:49] And so, yeah, I'm interested to see who they're going to pick for actors.

[00:27:53] Mari, what's the over under on British actors that will be in this film portraying the goats here?

[00:27:59] So.

[00:28:02] At least two.

[00:28:03] That's what I was going to say.

[00:28:05] Two. It's between two or three for me.

[00:28:07] That's what I was thinking.

[00:28:08] Yeah. Sean Conley was British.

[00:28:11] I could see it.

[00:28:11] I could see it.

[00:28:13] I could see it.

[00:28:14] But yeah.

[00:28:15] So, of course, more celebrating our black legends while they are here to smell the flowers that we give it to them.

[00:28:21] And so I'm very excited for that.

[00:28:23] And we'll be checking it out at that time.

[00:28:25] And hopefully it happens soon so we can cover it here on Recap Kickback.

[00:28:29] But that's our entertainment news of the week.

[00:28:32] If you are tuning in just for entertainment news, thank you for stopping by.

[00:28:35] Make sure you come back next week.

[00:28:37] We'll have more entertainment news for you as well.

[00:28:39] And a new movie or TV show to cover.

[00:28:43] Mara, do you know what we're doing next week?

[00:28:45] Do we have anything big on the way?

[00:28:48] Not sure.

[00:28:49] There's a graphic there.

[00:28:50] Pull that graphic up.

[00:28:53] There's a lot of stuff coming soon.

[00:28:55] Gotcha.

[00:28:56] Okay.

[00:28:57] So let's pull up the graphic.

[00:28:59] Let's see what's coming up on our radar.

[00:29:01] And this is from X.com.

[00:29:03] Am I right?

[00:29:04] I haven't been on this site in a while.

[00:29:06] So let's just.

[00:29:07] They're in a wasteland.

[00:29:09] Yeah.

[00:29:09] It's the ghetto over there.

[00:29:11] We've moved on to bluer skies, if you will.

[00:29:13] Yeah.

[00:29:14] Oh my God.

[00:29:15] Not a white refrigerator.

[00:29:17] Woo.

[00:29:17] The ghetto.

[00:29:18] 18 blacklist titles premiering this month of November.

[00:29:22] Luther Vandross, Never Too Much.

[00:29:25] Okay.

[00:29:25] Make it bigger.

[00:29:26] Make it bigger.

[00:29:27] Let's see.

[00:29:28] There it is.

[00:29:29] There you go.

[00:29:29] How's that?

[00:29:30] All right.

[00:29:30] Luther Vandross, Never Too Much.

[00:29:32] Invincible Fight Girl, which is on Mara and I.

[00:29:34] What?

[00:29:35] Yes.

[00:29:36] Meet Me Next Christmas, a Netflix movie.

[00:29:39] I've been talking to.

[00:29:41] Oh, you didn't cover that yet?

[00:29:43] Well, the A Who All Gonna Be There people been having some scheduling issues.

[00:29:46] Oh.

[00:29:46] It's coming.

[00:29:46] We're going to have it.

[00:29:47] We're going to try to roll it out in December for our holiday, you know, lineup.

[00:29:51] You know, if you haven't watched it, it's cute.

[00:29:54] It's one of those.

[00:29:55] It's a cute ass.

[00:29:55] That's right.

[00:29:56] You know?

[00:29:58] Silo, Black Lead.

[00:29:59] Jason, did you know Common was the lead of Silo?

[00:30:02] I had no idea.

[00:30:03] Is he the lead?

[00:30:04] I mean, it's Silo.

[00:30:06] Yeah, I feel like that's a stretch.

[00:30:08] Cruel Intentions, though, is very Black.

[00:30:10] I've been seeing the...

[00:30:11] It is?

[00:30:12] Yeah.

[00:30:13] I think it's a Black rendition of Cruel Intentions.

[00:30:16] Is that a remake of the movie?

[00:30:19] Yeah, but it's going to be a show.

[00:30:21] Yeah.

[00:30:22] And you know Cruel Intentions itself is a remake of Valmont.

[00:30:26] Dangerous Liaisons.

[00:30:27] Yeah.

[00:30:28] Dangerous Liaisons.

[00:30:29] Yeah.

[00:30:30] Yeah.

[00:30:31] And then the French one as well.

[00:30:31] Well, Stars did a good rendition of that, the original.

[00:30:36] Gotcha.

[00:30:36] See, I wasn't...

[00:30:37] See, I've never watched the Stars rendition, but yeah, I've been seeing a lot of the posters

[00:30:47] for the upcoming thing.

[00:30:49] And so hopefully...

[00:30:50] I like that.

[00:30:51] That comes out this week, so...

[00:30:53] Yeah, yeah.

[00:30:53] It's getting very Black now.

[00:30:54] I don't know, because like I said, this one graphic is saying Black Lead, but you know

[00:30:59] what that means.

[00:30:59] You know, maybe top three, top four people might be...

[00:31:02] One of the people might be Black.

[00:31:03] Because Sex Lies of College Girls is on here as well, and that's not a Black Lead show.

[00:31:07] Yeah.

[00:31:07] It's one of the leads.

[00:31:09] Love that show.

[00:31:10] Love that show.

[00:31:11] Definitely not Black Lead.

[00:31:12] Sasha and I will be covering it on RHAP Scripted this season, season three, so check that out.

[00:31:20] Interesting.

[00:31:20] That's very interesting.

[00:31:22] Glad to know that.

[00:31:23] Okay.

[00:31:25] Yeah.

[00:31:25] Yeah.

[00:31:26] All right.

[00:31:27] Cool.

[00:31:28] Uh-oh.

[00:31:28] Live beef.

[00:31:29] Live beef.

[00:31:30] Right.

[00:31:31] I feel like I missed something.

[00:31:32] It wasn't like me and Gia covered that somewhere.

[00:31:37] Oh.

[00:31:40] That's tough.

[00:31:42] It be your own people.

[00:31:44] It be your own people.

[00:31:44] It be your own people.

[00:31:46] Because I definitely did not miss it.

[00:31:48] So anyway, a few more, obviously crosses on here.

[00:31:53] Red One, the Christmas movie with The Rock.

[00:31:56] The Day of the Jackal.

[00:31:57] Wicked.

[00:31:58] The Madness.

[00:31:59] Starring Coleman Domingo.

[00:32:00] That's Take Me With Black Lead.

[00:32:02] The Piano Lesson is coming so far.

[00:32:04] I think that's what we have to talk about next week, maybe.

[00:32:06] November 22nd.

[00:32:07] It's on Netflix.

[00:32:09] Oh, God.

[00:32:09] Yeah.

[00:32:10] We just got out of our dramatic era, though.

[00:32:13] I mean, did we?

[00:32:14] Because we're really about to talk about Cross.

[00:32:15] And I would say that this is pretty dramatic.

[00:32:18] Yeah.

[00:32:18] But look, if you have any suggestions, let us know.

[00:32:21] You can email us, recapkickback at gmail.com and let us know.

[00:32:25] Or you can leave us a comment on our YouTube page or on our reviews with the five-star

[00:32:30] reviews, of course, or we won't see them.

[00:32:32] And say, hey, this is what I think y'all should talk about.

[00:32:34] And then we'll try to bring that to you.

[00:32:36] So thank y'all for listening.

[00:32:37] And we are going to come back right after this break with our review of episodes one

[00:32:41] and two of Cross on Amazon Prime right after this.

[00:32:46] All right.

[00:32:46] We're back.

[00:32:48] So Cross is something that was not on my radar.

[00:32:51] I like Aldous Hodge as an actor, so I was not opposed to watching it.

[00:32:55] But this is definitely not my type of show initially.

[00:32:58] And so I was very surprised when Mario was like, hey, we got to talk about it.

[00:33:00] I was like, cool.

[00:33:01] Let's check it out.

[00:33:02] And I did.

[00:33:03] And I have questions.

[00:33:05] And so now that I know that the two of you are very tapped into the whole world of,

[00:33:10] you know, the Cross books, which I'll say 30 something books, I need to know.

[00:33:15] OK, the episodes one and two.

[00:33:18] Did you feel like it was aligned with, you know, the way that you read the books and perceived

[00:33:22] the books in the past?

[00:33:23] Jason, I guess you can go first if you want.

[00:33:25] I think you've read more of them than Amari.

[00:33:27] Yeah.

[00:33:27] So the thing with Cross is that it's not based on an existing book.

[00:33:31] This is like a this is like a new story within the Cross universe.

[00:33:35] So a lot of the details within Cross, like his family structure and even references a past case,

[00:33:42] which is the first book of Alice Cross.

[00:33:44] Those are all in line with the book version of Alice Cross.

[00:33:48] So that that all rings true.

[00:33:51] So it does kind of it does feel like it's part of that same environment and universe of the Cross books.

[00:33:57] Right.

[00:33:58] Like.

[00:34:00] Along Came a Spider, Kiss the Girls.

[00:34:04] I feel like there's one more there.

[00:34:06] Not the Morgan Freeman version.

[00:34:08] There was a there was a terrible Tyler Perry.

[00:34:10] Tyler Perry.

[00:34:11] Yeah.

[00:34:12] Yeah.

[00:34:12] It was just cross.

[00:34:14] Yeah.

[00:34:15] Yeah.

[00:34:15] I knew about the Morgan Freeman ones because those were when I knew.

[00:34:19] No.

[00:34:20] Yeah.

[00:34:20] People didn't even realize that was books.

[00:34:22] I didn't know.

[00:34:24] I had no clue.

[00:34:25] And then when I saw Tyler Perry was involved in the other Cross movie, I was like, oh, OK.

[00:34:31] That's interesting.

[00:34:32] I never watched it.

[00:34:33] But because mostly because it's really hard for me to see T.P. as not Madea.

[00:34:39] So him shooting a gun and he's not wearing a dress doesn't really.

[00:34:43] It wasn't good.

[00:34:45] It was not good.

[00:34:46] And like they keep it.

[00:34:48] And Jason's right.

[00:34:49] They have to.

[00:34:50] They kind of have to do another.

[00:34:52] They have to kind of stay in the universe while not completely doing the books, because

[00:34:58] especially that first book, it's been like done to death.

[00:35:03] And in a sense where they've taken the elements like his wife getting shot and murdered has

[00:35:09] been in basically every every iteration that they've done of Cross.

[00:35:13] It's like his wife got to get shot and murdered.

[00:35:15] I mean, it's like the biggest thing that happens to him and it sets off the series.

[00:35:19] But it's just like it's been done to death.

[00:35:23] So I we I haven't finished the season.

[00:35:29] So I don't think any of us, none of us finished the season.

[00:35:32] We just did the first.

[00:35:33] We're just reviewing the first two episodes.

[00:35:36] So they've already been greenlit for a season two.

[00:35:39] From what I understand, I think James Patterson only agreed to do the first season if he was

[00:35:46] guaranteed a second season, which is.

[00:35:48] Fucking awesome.

[00:35:50] And so it'll be interesting to see what the second season is like, because I feel like

[00:35:56] they're kind of they might use this season to introduce the characters and all of that.

[00:36:00] And then they might get on the path of the books to see season two.

[00:36:05] But I don't even know.

[00:36:06] Like, I think it's I think it's hard.

[00:36:08] Sorry for me to go on this this tangent.

[00:36:10] But like like currently ABC had the Will Trent series going and I read all the Will Trent books.

[00:36:17] There's only 10 of those books.

[00:36:19] And it was really hard for them to try and juggle the storylines for that from 10 books in a 13 episode series.

[00:36:29] And.

[00:36:30] I don't think I don't think they're getting another season because it's been over a year since the first season.

[00:36:35] And they did things where one book was one episode, but they would change things.

[00:36:42] And it was like you're condensing a whole book into an hour.

[00:36:49] It did not work for me.

[00:36:52] So it's very interesting that immediately with Cross, even in the first two episodes, there's no resolution.

[00:36:59] There it is an ongoing case throughout the season.

[00:37:02] So I'm I honestly I'm so excited to see the rest of this season and where they go next.

[00:37:12] I mean, I don't even know where to start.

[00:37:14] Chappelle, like everything was just fantastic to me.

[00:37:17] Yeah.

[00:37:18] OK, well, let's jump in.

[00:37:19] Cross, that's going to be starring Aldous Hodge.

[00:37:21] We've been talking about him a lot lately because people were speculating without.

[00:37:25] All right.

[00:37:26] We hear you, Mark.

[00:37:30] That first scene really probably really, really.

[00:37:32] Got Mari really got to Mari.

[00:37:34] That was funny.

[00:37:35] Oh, my God.

[00:37:36] I laugh.

[00:37:37] I was kind of I was like taking a back.

[00:37:39] Sir, this has got to be.

[00:37:40] I was cutting pearls.

[00:37:42] My pearls.

[00:37:43] I love it.

[00:37:44] That racism was sexual harassment.

[00:37:46] Is that how we do it?

[00:37:47] And then he dropped the N word immediately.

[00:37:49] I was like, we on this type of time.

[00:37:51] I was like, OK, I was like, OK, we doing the things.

[00:37:55] You know, it's funny that you mentioned that.

[00:37:56] I saw on Twitter and I have not seen this verified anywhere else.

[00:37:59] But did you see the rumor that James Patterson had to turn down a seven figure offer at first about this because they wanted to make Cross's character white?

[00:38:09] Holy.

[00:38:10] And that's the thing for me.

[00:38:13] Which is interesting.

[00:38:13] I'm interested to see what you think, Mari, because I read the Cross books and didn't really look into James Patterson as a whole.

[00:38:20] I heard the name James Patterson.

[00:38:22] But I started reading the books and then I was like, let me see who this James Patterson fellow is.

[00:38:26] And to find out that he's like an older white man, I was like, yeah, interesting because there's a lot of content in the Cross books that are just like interesting perspective coming from a white person.

[00:38:38] So, Mari, I'm interested to see what you think of that as well, because I came late to it.

[00:38:43] I was like, oh, didn't realize that was the case.

[00:38:45] I'd already been like five books in.

[00:38:47] I was like, well, I can't stop now.

[00:38:49] But that's an interesting tidbit to know.

[00:38:52] So for me, I always knew that James Patterson was white and I always knew Alex Cross was black.

[00:38:57] But maybe it's because I was reading those books when I was really young, because this has been an ongoing series for like 20 plus years.

[00:39:05] Like it's been a very long time.

[00:39:07] So for me, I just like that Alex Cross was black.

[00:39:10] And I felt like he was doing all of the things just as a black man.

[00:39:15] I never saw any racial undertones or anything like that.

[00:39:19] And plus James Patterson, who helps him write the books now?

[00:39:22] Well, this is this is a solo James Patterson.

[00:39:25] James Patterson has a lot of series.

[00:39:27] Yes, still.

[00:39:28] James Patterson has a lot of series that he co-writes with people.

[00:39:31] He co-writes with people, yeah.

[00:39:32] James Patterson has a lot of volume in books.

[00:39:34] That's because he co-writes a lot of them.

[00:39:36] He plots books and then lets other people kind of really write them.

[00:39:39] But this Alex Cross has always been a solo James Patterson thing.

[00:39:44] Maybe I gotta pay attention more.

[00:39:46] I mean, especially like the first books came out in like the 90s.

[00:39:50] 90s.

[00:39:50] So it's like for sure a lot of the language and a lot of the stuff in the books is like,

[00:39:56] we look at them today with our 2024 lens and be like, yikes.

[00:40:00] Yeah.

[00:40:01] So it's always been something that kind of kind of set off my alarms a little bit.

[00:40:07] But it feels like it's nothing overly gross, especially now.

[00:40:11] Yeah.

[00:40:12] 2020 series.

[00:40:14] There's nothing majorly that makes me go like makes my eyebrow raise.

[00:40:17] But I just thought it was a very interesting thing to really bring up that this black protagonist

[00:40:23] and all his.

[00:40:24] Yeah.

[00:40:24] Very black.

[00:40:25] Black family.

[00:40:25] Very black series.

[00:40:27] Was all written by a white man.

[00:40:28] Maybe Nana Mama.

[00:40:30] Maybe that is.

[00:40:31] I've honestly, honestly, Jason, I've never thought of that.

[00:40:34] Like, honestly, so now I got to go back with the different things.

[00:40:38] It's something you have to think about and really has to kind of.

[00:40:39] But I think he does it pretty well.

[00:40:40] Yeah, I think he does.

[00:40:42] Yeah.

[00:40:42] I think he does.

[00:40:43] But it's just some of the things are just like, interesting this is written by a white

[00:40:46] man, but he does.

[00:40:47] He seems to understand some of the struggles.

[00:40:49] Yeah.

[00:40:50] I mean.

[00:40:51] The husband's trial was really good.

[00:40:53] And that was very racial.

[00:40:55] Yes.

[00:40:55] Yeah.

[00:40:56] James Madison, you have a pass to the cookout.

[00:40:58] Like, you might be able to come.

[00:41:00] He can sit outside, but we'll bring you on.

[00:41:02] Yeah.

[00:41:03] We'll bring you on some potatoes.

[00:41:04] Yeah.

[00:41:04] Or something.

[00:41:05] I don't know.

[00:41:05] Yeah, exactly.

[00:41:06] Look.

[00:41:07] Because I do have, I mean, this white man sitting there typing like, yeah, is this

[00:41:10] my black dick bigger than yours?

[00:41:11] I'm like, James Pattinson.

[00:41:13] Well, calm down.

[00:41:14] Well, he probably didn't write that.

[00:41:15] Did he write the, I don't know.

[00:41:16] I don't know.

[00:41:17] I don't know.

[00:41:18] But I do find that funny.

[00:41:20] I found the tweet.

[00:41:20] It's from, I want to give her credit.

[00:41:22] I write her girl.

[00:41:23] Oh, shout out.

[00:41:25] I write a girl.

[00:41:25] I didn't know James Pattinson rejected a seven figure offer because the studio wanted to change

[00:41:30] the character of Alex Cross to be white.

[00:41:31] He refused to whitewash his lead detective and later went on to talk about how the character

[00:41:35] was inspired by his own experiences with a black family in his hometown.

[00:41:39] So apparently there's an Alex Cross in his hometown with a big old black dick that he wanted

[00:41:42] to make sure we highlighted in this show.

[00:41:45] So we have Aldous Hodge.

[00:41:47] They said, we need somebody to fit the criteria of bringing Aldous.

[00:41:51] And I've never seen him on a TV show before.

[00:41:55] Most of his writers are black.

[00:41:59] The executive story editor, Blaze, Ali Watkins, Ron McCants.

[00:42:04] Look at representation in the writers room.

[00:42:08] I've never seen Aldous Hodge in a television show.

[00:42:12] Have either of you watched a show that was...

[00:42:13] Oh yeah, I was a huge Leverage fan.

[00:42:16] And that's where I was introduced to Aldous Hodge.

[00:42:19] So like I've been a fan of his since those days.

[00:42:22] So yeah, I've seen him in episodic TV.

[00:42:26] You know, in those, like especially in Leverage, he was more of a lighter, more comedic presence

[00:42:32] on that show.

[00:42:32] So this is a very different kind of vein I'm seeing him do in this show.

[00:42:38] You know, I've even forgiven the fact that he was in Black Adam.

[00:42:41] So like, you know, I'm a big Alex Hodge fan.

[00:42:48] So seeing him in this was really like, it was really an added benefit to watching the show.

[00:42:53] And he killed this role.

[00:42:55] Fucking A, he killed this role, man.

[00:42:57] Like, it's hard to follow up Morgan Freeman.

[00:43:00] Tyler Perry won't go do it.

[00:43:02] No type of way.

[00:43:03] But Aldous Hodge, I was like, this is good.

[00:43:08] Like, oh my God.

[00:43:10] He brought Alex Cross to life.

[00:43:12] Just with the dealing with the neo-Nazi and basically putting his dick very close to this

[00:43:20] neo-Nazi space and being like, checkmate.

[00:43:22] He got like, he got it all.

[00:43:24] Like, I believe that he is smart.

[00:43:26] You know what I'm saying?

[00:43:27] That sounds stupid.

[00:43:28] But like, the whole thing about Alex Cross in the books and in the show, it's like, he's

[00:43:33] a forensic psychologist who worked as a police officer slash FBI agent.

[00:43:37] And he's very cerebral.

[00:43:39] And he's always doing these cat and mouse games with these serial killers and stuff like that.

[00:43:44] And Aldous Hodge is somebody who can come off as like a dumb action hero if you wanted

[00:43:50] to, which, you know, with all of your action hero-y people.

[00:43:55] But instead, this comes off as very cerebral, while also you can see him start to like, kind

[00:44:04] of, he can unravel from, you know, his, the loss of his wife and stuff like that.

[00:44:10] He had it all, like the acting range was all there.

[00:44:14] And even some of the stuff that he said was what I found funny.

[00:44:18] I don't know if it was meant to be comedic, but it was just, it was just such a good performance

[00:44:24] to me.

[00:44:24] It was just an amazing performance as Alex Cross.

[00:44:27] I was like, this is what we needed this whole entire time.

[00:44:30] Like, wow.

[00:44:32] Yeah.

[00:44:32] I was glad they had that first scene in there because I will say after that, I kind of lost

[00:44:38] a little bit of the Alex Crossness for me because it's not, he was reacting to things

[00:44:43] a lot.

[00:44:43] Like in the Alex Cross books, he's very proactive.

[00:44:45] He, you know, has plans and plots, but I felt like in these first two episodes, he was

[00:44:49] very like reactive to things.

[00:44:51] Now I did watch episode three and there is a, there's a sequence in episode three where

[00:44:56] it is really good.

[00:44:57] It's like, he's actually going through the case and thinking and like, you see, you kind

[00:45:01] of see his perspective on how he thinks about things.

[00:45:04] Like literally when he's in, like he's in the precinct, like lights go low.

[00:45:08] So you see him working out in his head like that.

[00:45:11] I love.

[00:45:11] So I wish we had a little bit more of that in episodes one and two, like episodes one and

[00:45:14] two really kind of tried to, I guess, introduce you to the world of Alex Cross.

[00:45:19] Yeah.

[00:45:19] They have to.

[00:45:20] A lot of roadblocks.

[00:45:22] Yeah.

[00:45:22] Yeah.

[00:45:22] So, so I felt like that was good.

[00:45:24] I didn't really love the whole confrontation scene with when he was at the dinner party.

[00:45:30] Like, I didn't feel like that was very Alex Cross-ish.

[00:45:32] Like, I feel like the Alex Cross of the books would have really kind of come at this person

[00:45:37] with like intellect and like, and kind of shut them down via argument, not via fisticuffs.

[00:45:44] Like, you know, like, so that for me was like, eh, not exactly Alex Cross-ish.

[00:45:49] Yes.

[00:45:49] It's badass for sure.

[00:45:51] But, you know, I feel like that was a, like less of an Alex Cross, like thing.

[00:45:55] I will say high big highlight for this series for me is I say Mustafa.

[00:46:01] Yes.

[00:46:03] Ah.

[00:46:04] Sorry.

[00:46:05] Coming into this, I thought maybe like Isaiah Mustafa might have been a better choice for

[00:46:09] Alex Cross if he was a bigger name.

[00:46:11] Because I feel like he fits more of the Alex Cross description in the books.

[00:46:16] Yeah.

[00:46:16] But him as Samson is a huge highlight for me in this, in this show.

[00:46:21] He is a scene stealer.

[00:46:23] I feel like he takes some of the comedic shine away from Aldous Hodge, who, you know, of course.

[00:46:28] Which he's supposed to.

[00:46:29] Yes, he's supposed to.

[00:46:30] Like this role doesn't really call for a lot of comedic, you know, comedic relief in that role.

[00:46:36] But Samson does kind of fit that role.

[00:46:39] And Isaiah Mustafa really kills it as that.

[00:46:41] And how sad was it?

[00:46:42] I was just sitting there like, I'm so glad he's taller than Alex Cross.

[00:46:46] Yes, yes.

[00:46:47] Because it's such a big thing in the books.

[00:46:48] It's like Samson is the bigger, he's taller and he's thicker than Alex.

[00:46:53] And it's just like, I just kept looking at them.

[00:46:56] I was like, God.

[00:46:58] And I love.

[00:46:59] And Alex Cross is not short.

[00:47:00] So no, I don't know if y'all caught it, but like there was a moment with with Alex and Samson were like, Samson said somehow Alex smells.

[00:47:10] Alex says, well, you smell like mouth balls and Old Spice.

[00:47:12] I was like, I got that one.

[00:47:15] I got that.

[00:47:16] Because Isaiah Mustafa was the, you know, Old Spice guy.

[00:47:19] Old Spice guy, yeah.

[00:47:20] That's how we were introduced to him.

[00:47:21] So that was really funny.

[00:47:23] So, yeah, I just loved all those aspects of that.

[00:47:26] And that chemistry they have is so fantastic.

[00:47:29] You feel like it's lived in.

[00:47:30] You feel like it's something that's been, they've been together for years.

[00:47:33] You really feel that in their chemistry.

[00:47:36] Yeah.

[00:47:36] So, I mean, to point out what Jason's talking about later on in the show, we do get a confrontation where Alex Cross is moved to violence.

[00:47:46] And here's how we got there.

[00:47:47] Alex Cross needs to go to therapy really, really, really bad.

[00:47:51] And he just refuses.

[00:47:52] His man will do anything but go to therapy.

[00:47:54] He will do anything.

[00:47:55] And he's not exactly a forensic psychologist here.

[00:47:59] He is a cop.

[00:48:00] And so he's a detective working for the Chicago PD.

[00:48:05] And while he's working there, there's a lot of tensions in the air.

[00:48:08] There's a person who has been murdered.

[00:48:10] A former gang member turned activist has been killed, or at least he's been found dead.

[00:48:15] Now, of course, the community think he's been killed by the police because it would, you know, it wouldn't be the first activist that the government or a bigger system has taken out.

[00:48:25] There's plenty of them that you can name, probably.

[00:48:27] And so the community is not really trusted of that.

[00:48:31] And it doesn't help that, you know, the cops be kind of violent sometimes.

[00:48:35] And so you will see throughout, Alex Cross is faced with crossroads of sorts where he needs to do his job as a cop, you know, and shut this whole thing down.

[00:48:45] This is not, this was not seen as a murder.

[00:48:48] This was seen as someone overdosing on, uh, on meth.

[00:48:51] Uh, however, the community is looking for, you know, somebody to hold the police accountable for what they believe, uh, you know, is something that the police set up.

[00:49:00] They don't think this guy has done meth or done any of the things that they're accusing him of.

[00:49:04] In fact, they think this is a plot to, uh, you know, criminalize him and murder him and get him out of the way because he is leading the community in a positive way.

[00:49:11] And so now Aldous Hodge's character cross has to toe that line, right?

[00:49:15] He has to keep his job, obviously.

[00:49:17] He also needs to investigate this in a way where he can find out if this is foul play or not.

[00:49:22] And he does, he finds out very quickly.

[00:49:24] Uh, and I guess I'll ask y'all about this, but he finds out very quickly that this is probably foul play.

[00:49:30] I don't know how I feel yet, Mari, about the show kind of like getting in front of a lot of the mystery aspects of this.

[00:49:37] Like within the first episode, we already know who the killer is.

[00:49:40] We already know, you know, kind of the killer's MO.

[00:49:44] Um, I feel like I've taken a lot of like, I was wanting to try to figure it out.

[00:49:47] You know, like, is this the cops?

[00:49:49] Is this somebody else?

[00:49:50] Is this foul play?

[00:49:51] But I think the show kind of gets in front of that and says, no, we have bigger mysteries for you to solve.

[00:49:55] Exactly.

[00:49:55] We'll just give you this right now.

[00:49:57] And that's what I was just going to say.

[00:49:58] This will not be your, uh, SVU, uh, murder of the week series.

[00:50:04] It won't be your, like I said, your Will Trent.

[00:50:06] It's going to be an interwoven ongoing thing.

[00:50:11] And that's how the books are.

[00:50:13] The books are literally so twisty, so turny.

[00:50:16] And then you look up and you're like, wait, that's the mastermind behind everything.

[00:50:20] It's like always the person you least expected to be and stuff like that.

[00:50:26] So I get that.

[00:50:28] I, even me, I was in the first two episodes.

[00:50:30] I was like, wait, oh, that killer is working.

[00:50:32] Where did this black guy come from?

[00:50:34] Like, where did this other guy come from?

[00:50:35] You know what I'm saying?

[00:50:36] Let's talk about Bobby.

[00:50:37] Bobby is a trip.

[00:50:40] Bobby is a head case.

[00:50:42] He's a, that hotel scene.

[00:50:44] It's like.

[00:50:45] Bobby was chilling.

[00:50:46] Bobby was having a good time.

[00:50:47] I said, you go ahead, Bobby.

[00:50:49] Not when he murdered that woman, but when he was chilling by himself.

[00:50:51] You know, before he murdered that lady, I was like, Bobby was having a good time.

[00:50:56] He very clearly is working with the bad guy, Mark.

[00:50:58] Yeah.

[00:50:58] So it's just like, that's how that, if this is any indication on where they're going within

[00:51:05] the season and like how the books go, it's going to be good.

[00:51:09] It's going to, you're going to think, you know it, and then you won't know it.

[00:51:13] You won't know until it's the end.

[00:51:15] So if you're kind of like, dang, the killer's revealed, dang, this is, it'll, it'll probably

[00:51:20] be some shit you, you just never figure out until the very last minute.

[00:51:24] Yeah.

[00:51:25] And like the books, there are two plot lines going at the same time.

[00:51:29] You have your main crime, your main serial killer, your main villain.

[00:51:34] And then there's also some Alex Cross drama that's always going on in the books.

[00:51:39] So that, that, and then you have your mystery in that storyline, right?

[00:51:42] Like who is messing with Alex and, you know, if it's going where I think it's going and

[00:51:48] where they have introduced to us a character that at least in these first two to three

[00:51:53] episodes are like, I don't think we've seen this person.

[00:51:56] You might have, you might, we might know who it is.

[00:51:58] It might be a very interesting switch up from the books.

[00:52:01] I don't know if you're vibing with or I'm vibing, Mari.

[00:52:04] Yeah.

[00:52:05] But yeah, I know you're not, bro, but that would be very interesting in seeing as the season

[00:52:11] progresses, hopefully where that person comes in and how it's connected to Alex and his

[00:52:15] past, I'm, I'm excited for that, for that other, for the main like seal killer aspect

[00:52:21] to, to dive deeper into who this guy is because yes, we know who it is, but we don't know the

[00:52:28] why yet.

[00:52:29] So that's what I'm interested in seeing about this guy, Ryan Eggold, who is an actor is

[00:52:33] also a great actor.

[00:52:34] He was like, uh, he's in the blacklist.

[00:52:36] I don't know if everybody ever, any watched that show?

[00:52:38] Yes.

[00:52:38] I remember the blacklist.

[00:52:39] Yeah.

[00:52:39] So he was in that, he was in some medical drama thing that I didn't watch a lot of,

[00:52:43] but he is a good actor.

[00:52:44] So I'm really curious to see how he plays this.

[00:52:46] And in the first two episodes, I really liked what he did with the character.

[00:52:50] So I'm interested to see, to, to get more into the, to the minutia of the why he's doing

[00:52:55] this.

[00:52:55] We know who it is.

[00:52:56] We don't know why.

[00:52:57] Yeah.

[00:52:57] Yeah.

[00:52:58] Ryan Eggold's character, uh, Ed here is a very wealthy man.

[00:53:02] Uh, and he is a serial killer.

[00:53:04] We know this very quickly.

[00:53:05] Uh, and it seems like he's like emulating serial killers of the past.

[00:53:08] We'll see him going through and kind of matching his new murders to the old murders, you know?

[00:53:14] So, um, you know, even one of his first victims, we see that they're talking about, um, um, uh,

[00:53:19] what's his name?

[00:53:20] Uh, God, what is this man's name?

[00:53:22] Oh, Amir.

[00:53:23] They're talking about Amir.

[00:53:24] And Amir, you know, he didn't fit the profile of the victim that, right?

[00:53:29] Eggold's character, uh, Ed is looking for.

[00:53:32] So he made him look like, you know, he made, he shaved his head, you know, he cut off his

[00:53:36] locks, but it seems like he made him eat food.

[00:53:39] Yeah.

[00:53:39] That he wouldn't have eaten, you know, very much getting into the mind of, you know, this

[00:53:43] serial killer and why the serial killer is doing this is going to be the interesting

[00:53:47] part for sure.

[00:53:48] Um, and so Alice Cross has to find that guy while also dealing with the, you know, the

[00:53:54] stuff that's going on in their neighborhood, because that murder of Amir really sets off a

[00:53:59] chain of events where now, you know, um, multiple people are really involved with this Amir murder.

[00:54:05] Mari, at some point, um, Amir's murder turned into, well, where's Amir's cell phone?

[00:54:11] The cell phone goes to Vanessa.

[00:54:13] The baby mama got the cell phone.

[00:54:14] Then they got to find the baby mama.

[00:54:16] They find the baby mama.

[00:54:16] Now the baby mama's dead.

[00:54:18] The community is not going to like this, especially because they think this is the cops.

[00:54:22] They think the cops have something to do with this.

[00:54:24] Yeah.

[00:54:24] And he even missed this up there.

[00:54:26] It was like Amir's cell phone.

[00:54:28] They're like, oh, he was talking to this drug dealer.

[00:54:30] Let's bring in the drug dealer.

[00:54:31] That's where the drug dealer gets killed.

[00:54:33] His phone is his baby mama who has it.

[00:54:35] And she gets killed by Bobby's crazy ass.

[00:54:38] And it's just like a cover up of a cover up of cover up.

[00:54:41] Yeah.

[00:54:42] Um, all just to cover up the serial killer.

[00:54:45] And so it is just, yeah, I mean, so far so good to me.

[00:54:51] The writing has been great and I love the layers.

[00:54:56] I don't care.

[00:54:57] I love it.

[00:54:57] I love the layers.

[00:54:59] Don't be making no sense.

[00:55:00] It's like, it feels like a dead end.

[00:55:02] It feels like it's just having them spin their wheels on some stuff.

[00:55:06] Like they have to show up.

[00:55:07] They have to show us, show them to us being cops.

[00:55:11] And this is like a side quest to let you remind you that they're cops, especially since like

[00:55:16] they're higher ups want to spin it in one way and it's not the same.

[00:55:20] So like I get it.

[00:55:22] That could be filler, but I still enjoyed it.

[00:55:24] Yeah.

[00:55:25] It was just some of the dialogue to me was a little ham-fisted of like, like, you know,

[00:55:29] you're doing this because we're black, aren't you?

[00:55:31] It's like, okay.

[00:55:32] Yeah.

[00:55:32] It's a little obvious.

[00:55:34] I like that they called it out.

[00:55:36] It was like procedural cop dialogue.

[00:55:38] I was like, okay.

[00:55:39] Like, I feel like y'all should be better than this, but okay, whatever.

[00:55:42] That was my only critique of it.

[00:55:44] Like, especially some of the background haters, like in the precinct, like the chief lady is

[00:55:50] like, yeah.

[00:55:51] Like, I don't like her at all.

[00:55:52] They wrote her terribly in this.

[00:55:54] And that was.

[00:55:55] That's what they were doing.

[00:55:57] They're like.

[00:55:57] But they could have done a little smarter than it was.

[00:56:00] Like, it doesn't feel like a smart writing for me.

[00:56:03] They're like, you're going to hate this lady.

[00:56:05] You're going to hate this lady.

[00:56:06] Get a better dialogue for it.

[00:56:09] One of the other underlying mysteries that we haven't talked about is that Alex Cross,

[00:56:13] as Mari and Jason already pointed out, his wife gets killed.

[00:56:17] Apparently this is a recurring theme and we don't know who the killer is.

[00:56:20] And so not only do we have to find out about the Ymir killer and, you know, the serial

[00:56:26] killer, but, you know, his wife was shot in cold blood in public basically.

[00:56:30] And they never found out who did it.

[00:56:32] And we started getting clues throughout, you know, to kind of lead Alex Cross away from

[00:56:38] the case and start thinking about, you know, how can I figure out this issue with my wife,

[00:56:43] this mystery about my wife?

[00:56:44] Jason, what did you think about the key evidence that we got in this episode being a red skin

[00:56:49] scarf that his wife was murdered in that appeared back in the house?

[00:56:53] Someone planted back in his house and his son actually got in trouble for taking the scarf

[00:56:57] to school because red skin is bad.

[00:57:00] It's the commanders now, Chappelle.

[00:57:03] It's the commanders now.

[00:57:04] He said red skin.

[00:57:05] We were red skins.

[00:57:06] I thought it was interesting that they decided to like make it that, like to really bring

[00:57:11] that, bring that into it.

[00:57:12] That was interesting.

[00:57:13] But yeah, that is really kind of that really kind of fits into the Alex Cross has someone

[00:57:19] that's out for him for whatever reason.

[00:57:21] And they're really going to mess with his family and his personal life.

[00:57:24] So that fits a lot.

[00:57:25] And I really, you know, in episode three, they dig a little deeper and we get into a little

[00:57:30] bit more of what's going on, which leads to even more questions and more like what?

[00:57:35] What's going on?

[00:57:36] So for it, as we see the killer creeping up into Alex's house and placing the scarf and

[00:57:44] you talk about the acting of Aldous Hodge when he realizes what scarf this is and how

[00:57:51] this came to be, like his reaction to that was so great and so on point.

[00:57:56] So that, you know, that is really par for the course for an Alex Cross personal villain

[00:58:01] to do something like this.

[00:58:02] I don't know how many villains, Mari, in the books have snuck into Alex Cross's house

[00:58:06] and done stuff into his house, in his house.

[00:58:10] It's been a recurring theme in that show, in that book.

[00:58:12] So it wasn't surprising to see it here as well.

[00:58:16] I'm very interested to see if they're going where I think they're going, which would be

[00:58:20] very interesting to see.

[00:58:22] Yeah.

[00:58:23] Yeah.

[00:58:24] And also, it's kind of like, I love, it might be ham-fisted, but I love when somebody's

[00:58:31] talking and there's like a clue somewhere to what they're saying, the camera goes to

[00:58:35] Alex Cross's face and Alex is like, it's like him clocking something and you're like,

[00:58:43] ooh, that was a clue.

[00:58:44] That was a clue, y'all.

[00:58:45] Yeah.

[00:58:46] I love it.

[00:58:47] They did that a lot in this.

[00:58:49] Oh yeah, that's one of those recurring themes where it's like someone says something, he's

[00:58:52] like, interesting, you know?

[00:58:55] Yeah, Alex has to be smarter than everybody else in the room.

[00:58:58] That's his thing, right?

[00:58:59] Like, especially with the cell phone stuff where he's like, stop the video.

[00:59:03] Roll that back.

[00:59:04] Like, I saw something nobody knows what y'all did.

[00:59:06] Yeah.

[00:59:07] Enhancing it.

[00:59:08] Yeah.

[00:59:08] Yeah.

[00:59:10] No, that's a good point because there's definitely moments where, you know, when he meets Ed for

[00:59:14] the first time and Ed says something to him about like, you know, I really, you know,

[00:59:19] hope that we get to the bottom of the foul play here.

[00:59:21] And Alex Cross is like, who said anything about foul play?

[00:59:24] And he's kind of looking around like, interesting, you know, it's like, oh, okay.

[00:59:28] Like he's already kind of catching things.

[00:59:30] So yeah, you pick up on that very quickly.

[00:59:32] I do want to talk about this man needing therapy.

[00:59:35] I am team Samson on this one.

[00:59:37] This man does not need to have a gun anymore.

[00:59:39] He pulls it.

[00:59:39] Not only does he yell at his child for being caught with that red skin's scarf, which I

[00:59:45] mean, it has racist undertone.

[00:59:48] So do your thing.

[00:59:48] But also, you know, whatever.

[00:59:50] Don't yell at your kid.

[00:59:50] Like, not like that.

[00:59:52] He does not know what's going on.

[00:59:53] He does not know why you're mad.

[00:59:54] But then he also pulled a gun on his daughter.

[00:59:57] And we just kind of swept that under the rug.

[01:00:00] You know, they're like, okay, get his man his badge back and send him back into the

[01:00:03] field.

[01:00:03] I'm like, this man here is a threat to national security, at least to the people around him.

[01:00:09] When they got into the argument at the dinner table, the one that Jason flagged up, I felt

[01:00:15] like the guy that Aldous Hodge's character assaulted, like he proved his point, you know what

[01:00:20] man?

[01:00:21] Like, hello.

[01:00:22] Hello.

[01:00:23] Like, yeah, like clearly Alex is still not over what happened to his wife.

[01:00:29] And I love that it gave us another facet of Alex's character to be introduced to, especially

[01:00:41] just again in these first two episodes.

[01:00:43] Like, it's the cerebral portion.

[01:00:47] I mean, before he goes into that, before he goes into that interrogation room and gets

[01:00:55] very close to that neo-Nazi, he's on desk duty.

[01:00:58] You know, they tell him, they say he's been, he's stuck on desk duty.

[01:01:01] So it wasn't like they kind of immediately threw him back out there.

[01:01:05] But it's just like, this man is still suffering from like PTSD.

[01:01:09] He heard something in the middle of the night and pulled a gun on his daughter on accident,

[01:01:13] you know?

[01:01:14] So it's like, and he's like unraveling.

[01:01:16] He, he's literally unraveling.

[01:01:19] I think it's in episode three where he's like, he's like, it's his anniversary and he's like

[01:01:25] sobbing, like open sobbing.

[01:01:27] So he, he needs some therapy.

[01:01:29] So I love that Samson is there trying to push him in that direction.

[01:01:33] And I love Aldis, like that, that, that, that moment between the two of them, when Samson

[01:01:39] says that he has the name of, what is it?

[01:01:42] He has the, he basically has a lead on his wife's murder.

[01:01:46] And, and Alex is like about to lose.

[01:01:51] He's like, give me the name.

[01:01:52] And Samson's like, go to therapy.

[01:01:55] Go to therapy, please.

[01:01:57] I mean, he definitely needs therapy.

[01:01:59] You know, he's trying to date as well.

[01:02:01] It's been two years since he, uh, since his wife has passed.

[01:02:04] And so he's out here in the streets.

[01:02:05] Uh, he's doing his dating thing.

[01:02:07] He's dating a woman named Elle.

[01:02:09] But I would say that, you know, one thing this show did really well is they'd never let

[01:02:13] you forget that this is Aldis Hodge because it seems like he could be dating any of the

[01:02:16] women that he comes across at any point.

[01:02:18] There's so much chemistry.

[01:02:19] Like everybody, it's very heavy on the flirting.

[01:02:23] Listen, that's an Alex Cross thing.

[01:02:25] Like that is like, Alex Cross.

[01:02:27] Like a James Bond type.

[01:02:28] Yeah.

[01:02:28] Kind of, sort of like Alex Cross never met a woman.

[01:02:30] He didn't want to date.

[01:02:31] Uh, in most, in most of the early books, I will say.

[01:02:34] Um, so that, that definitely fits the character.

[01:02:36] He has a smoldering chemistry with all the women he comes across basically.

[01:02:40] So that really fits.

[01:02:41] And, you know, Alice Hodge is a good, a good representation of that.

[01:02:44] I think.

[01:02:45] Yeah.

[01:02:46] Cause, uh, Kayla is, uh, at one of his, uh, points of contact here.

[01:02:50] I think she works for the FBI or at least she's trying to recruit him to come be a forensic

[01:02:53] psychologist for the FBI.

[01:02:55] Yeah.

[01:02:55] And I was just like, oh, they definitely got something going on.

[01:02:58] You know, she walks in, drops her, like, uh, her, her big fur coat and just like sits

[01:03:02] down.

[01:03:03] She's like, and what can I do for you?

[01:03:04] And what are you going to do for me?

[01:03:05] I was like, okay, look, okay.

[01:03:07] But again, he's still got this L thing going on.

[01:03:10] Uh, and so I was like, okay, we'll see where, you know, if there's a will they, won't they

[01:03:14] with them.

[01:03:14] Um, the L stuff is very interesting as well, because again, another person who really needs

[01:03:19] to push this man to go to therapy, but she's going to be enough therapy for him in this

[01:03:23] episode.

[01:03:24] She's like, no, talk to me.

[01:03:25] Tell me, tell me what's going on.

[01:03:27] I'm like, drive that man to some professional help because, uh, you know, they try to do

[01:03:33] the do and the dude can't get done.

[01:03:35] Cause he's not ready.

[01:03:36] He's not ready more.

[01:03:37] He's jumping into the saddle a little too soon.

[01:03:39] Yeah.

[01:03:39] I, again, like you will do everything, but go to therapy.

[01:03:46] I'm actually, this is actually the most, uh, unrealistic part because a real man would

[01:03:51] have gone through with it.

[01:03:55] Like therapy.

[01:03:56] What's that?

[01:03:57] Yeah.

[01:03:58] He doesn't, he doesn't do well.

[01:04:00] He panics and runs out of the room or whatever.

[01:04:02] He does have other personal issues going on.

[01:04:04] Like we talked about his kids a little bit in his home life.

[01:04:08] Uh, it's got two kids.

[01:04:09] Uh, Jenny and, uh, Damon, Damon.

[01:04:13] Thank you.

[01:04:14] And, uh, Jenny, she's, she's ain't like a regular kid.

[01:04:17] She's doing her thing.

[01:04:18] Her dad's pulling guns on her, but she's trying to hold it down.

[01:04:22] Uh, Damon's the one who he's, he's a piano, uh, prodigy.

[01:04:25] It seems like he's got that going.

[01:04:27] So, uh, he learned the piano from his late mother.

[01:04:30] And so that's another storyline that's unfolding.

[01:04:33] But all of this is the backdrop of, you know, what is a sinister murder slash serial

[01:04:38] killer cover up.

[01:04:39] And so there's a lot of moving pieces in these first two episodes, ultimately culminating

[01:04:44] with, um, our bad guy, Ed, uh, tracking his newest, uh, his newest, uh, threat, or I

[01:04:52] guess his newest prey, right?

[01:04:53] Um, uh, a woman named Shannon.

[01:04:55] And they don't tell us why.

[01:04:57] They don't tell us why Shannon specifically, but we see her talking to a barista.

[01:05:01] The barista kind of makes like, Shannon.

[01:05:03] Oh, okay.

[01:05:04] Takes a picture of her and sends it off.

[01:05:06] And then the ball just gets rolling on this whole plot to get her.

[01:05:10] Mari, in the two episodes, I know you're, you're Alex Cross pro.

[01:05:14] Did I miss something about this Shannon woman that made her specifically the one that this,

[01:05:18] this barista is in on?

[01:05:19] And how many people does this serial killer have in on his, uh, on his whole plan?

[01:05:24] Because it's like, he's got like, he's like Littlefinger.

[01:05:27] He's got little birds everywhere.

[01:05:29] Yeah.

[01:05:29] So like, he's clearly, I'm pretty sure this is in the second episode.

[01:05:35] Sorry.

[01:05:35] Maybe I shouldn't.

[01:05:36] Who was that?

[01:05:37] I had, it was so good though.

[01:05:40] I had to keep going.

[01:05:43] I had to say this.

[01:05:44] Yeah.

[01:05:45] I know.

[01:05:45] The book is in this one, right?

[01:05:47] It's the book.

[01:05:48] No, the book, the book comes.

[01:05:50] Well, yeah, the book, it does make an appearance.

[01:05:52] We do see the book.

[01:05:52] We see the book of serial killers matched with people that he has taken and made to look like

[01:06:00] the serial killers.

[01:06:01] That's part of the reason why Shannon is chosen because she's chosen.

[01:06:04] Yeah.

[01:06:05] But why does the barista know?

[01:06:06] She has a resemblance.

[01:06:07] Huh?

[01:06:07] Yeah.

[01:06:08] But the barista was the one who took the picture.

[01:06:10] Like the barista was like an employee.

[01:06:12] That's what I'm saying.

[01:06:12] There's so many people in on it.

[01:06:14] Even when Shannon and Ed go on their date to the serial killer museum.

[01:06:19] I'm not quite sure what that was, but they go on their date.

[01:06:21] They pass away their cell phones like, hey, cell phones aren't permitted.

[01:06:25] And the person who takes the cell phone even is like fiddling with her phone, setting her

[01:06:29] up.

[01:06:30] I said, who is this network of supervillains that is trying to get to this, you know,

[01:06:35] to make this serial killer happen?

[01:06:37] And that's, and there you go.

[01:06:39] That's a bigger mystery.

[01:06:40] We know that Ed is the killer, but why are all these people working for him?

[01:06:44] Right.

[01:06:44] Why do they have a, what's his name?

[01:06:47] It's crazy behind.

[01:06:48] Bobby.

[01:06:49] Yes.

[01:06:50] Like it's so that it's, it's a lot going on and all of that just so he can like stock

[01:06:55] certain victims and make them look like certain like serial killers.

[01:06:59] And then also he said she was the last one at one point.

[01:07:02] So it's kind of like, so what, so what are you going to do after the last one?

[01:07:08] So, so yeah, I, I think it's, uh, that's what we're going to have to keep watching to

[01:07:14] find out because I, I, at first I was like, you know, I was like, wait, was he also the

[01:07:19] barista?

[01:07:19] It took me a minute to realize like it was all these people working for him.

[01:07:23] And it felt like to me, Bobby came out of nowhere.

[01:07:25] I was like, wait, where did Bobby come from?

[01:07:28] Yeah.

[01:07:29] So yeah.

[01:07:30] And Bobby's very active.

[01:07:32] He's very active in the first couple of episodes.

[01:07:34] Like he's, first he's a detective, like we don't, with like a private eye, but we don't

[01:07:37] know which side he's working on at first, but he immediately goes to Ed and was like,

[01:07:42] Hey, Ed, here's the information you need.

[01:07:44] Bobby's even the sniper that takes out, uh, uh, Tavio.

[01:07:48] Tavio.

[01:07:49] Yeah.

[01:07:49] Tavio.

[01:07:49] And so like, yeah.

[01:07:51] So Bobby's intertwined in this as well.

[01:07:54] He used to work for the police force.

[01:07:55] So I was thinking maybe Jason did, he has an ax to grind with Alex Cross from maybe

[01:08:00] back in the days.

[01:08:01] Like I haven't worked with him, but I know him very well.

[01:08:03] It's like, Oh, I think Bobby doing this for the money.

[01:08:05] That's all Bobby.

[01:08:06] That's all Bobby want.

[01:08:07] And for the cash.

[01:08:08] And maybe all these people are, cause Ed is filthy rich.

[01:08:11] Apparently, you know, his home is huge.

[01:08:13] Um, and it is the site of where he's handling these murders.

[01:08:17] Eventually he'll get Shannon to come to this date.

[01:08:20] Now the way he gets this woman.

[01:08:22] Dog.

[01:08:22] Dog.

[01:08:23] This is tough because first he finds her on a dating site and then he catfishes her.

[01:08:28] He meets her at the spot where they're supposed to meet.

[01:08:31] And she's like, uh, you ain't the guy.

[01:08:33] Uh, cut it out.

[01:08:33] This is married men.

[01:08:34] Y'all always like this.

[01:08:36] He's like, no, no, no.

[01:08:36] Listen to me, baby.

[01:08:37] I can't, I can explain.

[01:08:38] I'm very high profile.

[01:08:40] She's like, I don't believe you.

[01:08:41] And he, she's just like, he just wears her down.

[01:08:43] Like, no, just let me buy you breakfast.

[01:08:45] You know?

[01:08:46] And it starts there.

[01:08:47] And then of course he's already done his research on it.

[01:08:49] So he knows her interests.

[01:08:50] He takes her to the places she likes.

[01:08:51] She knows he has the same, uh, authors in mind that she likes.

[01:08:55] And eventually she will, um, he will invite her to his home for breakfast.

[01:09:00] I just come over.

[01:09:00] I'll make bacon.

[01:09:01] And then I can help you with this job that I've made a few calls for you to get.

[01:09:05] She is reluctant.

[01:09:07] She is even like, kind of like texting her mom before she goes in.

[01:09:10] Like, Hey, if I'm not back in an hour and I'll call the police.

[01:09:14] He, he, he, he, he.

[01:09:15] Yeah.

[01:09:16] She's doing all the right things.

[01:09:17] A text that we all send.

[01:09:19] Right.

[01:09:19] Yeah.

[01:09:20] She's being cautious.

[01:09:21] Yeah.

[01:09:21] She should have drew, drew the line.

[01:09:23] I don't know how many times I have to say this and I've said this on other podcasts, but

[01:09:26] I want to be very clear.

[01:09:27] If someone catfishes you, that is not someone you can trust.

[01:09:30] The end.

[01:09:30] That is the sentence.

[01:09:32] No, it's not like, cause when, when we watched 90 day fiance, Jason, I know you're a big 90

[01:09:36] day guy.

[01:09:37] You watch 90 day fiance.

[01:09:38] I'm looking at you.

[01:09:41] I'm looking at you.

[01:09:41] Jenny and Samit.

[01:09:41] Like, you know, like, okay, you catfish me, but you're not that bad in the eyes anyway.

[01:09:47] So I was like, no, you shut it down after they catfish you the first time.

[01:09:51] Don't give these people a chance to play your face again.

[01:09:54] Because that's why this woman's getting murdered.

[01:09:56] That's what this TV show catfish is built to empire upon is people that are, you know,

[01:10:00] yeah, he catfished me, but like, no, there's no, but like, no, you lied.

[01:10:06] You're a liar.

[01:10:07] Also fuck politeness ladies.

[01:10:09] As the women from my fear and murder would say, like it, like you don't need to be polite.

[01:10:15] Say, no, you're a catfish.

[01:10:17] Fuck your feelings and leave.

[01:10:18] You know, we, we have to undo this, this socialization where we have to try and, you know, well, it's

[01:10:25] because, you know, survival, you got to make survival so they don't kill you.

[01:10:29] But also if your, your senses are going off.

[01:10:35] Believe them.

[01:10:35] Oh, believe them.

[01:10:37] Yeah.

[01:10:37] Her spidey senses were going off left and right.

[01:10:40] And she still, she was so happy.

[01:10:42] He disarmed her so well with that job that she wanted so bad.

[01:10:45] And so she's like, all right, I'll show up.

[01:10:47] She even refuses to drink the mimosa.

[01:10:50] She comes in like, nah, I'm good.

[01:10:52] You know, like she really did kind of try to cover in our fees and cues, but it wasn't

[01:10:55] the mimosa market.

[01:10:57] No, it wasn't.

[01:10:58] It was the cat sanitizer.

[01:10:59] He's like, you thought I was going to put it in the drink.

[01:11:01] But now I already got you.

[01:11:02] I already got you though.

[01:11:04] Yeah.

[01:11:05] I'm all right.

[01:11:05] Now I feel like you're a hand sanitizer girly.

[01:11:08] Did this one hit too close to home?

[01:11:10] First off, I am a hand sanitizer girly, but also this is a myth people.

[01:11:15] Fentanyl.

[01:11:16] It, it, you cannot absorb it through your, your skin.

[01:11:19] It would take so much and so long.

[01:11:21] And it just, it is not, this is not how that works, but it's fine.

[01:11:27] It's whatever it moves supply.

[01:11:29] And it was very like jaw dropping.

[01:11:31] Yeah.

[01:11:32] He got it.

[01:11:33] I was like, oh, and then, and then the double next.

[01:11:36] Yeah.

[01:11:36] Yeah.

[01:11:37] She, well, she tries to call her mom and, uh, she's like, he's like, she did.

[01:11:41] She's like, somebody's going to come looking for me because I sent that text.

[01:11:44] Hey, if it's in an hour, I'm not found.

[01:11:46] They know where I'm at.

[01:11:48] She gets ready to call her mom and he picks up the phone because again, they've already,

[01:11:53] they tampered with her phone already.

[01:11:55] They somehow redirected this call to his own phone and now she is screwed.

[01:12:00] And so, uh, yeah, that kind of outlines all our big cases.

[01:12:04] I mean, we really haven't talked about Aldous Hodge's, uh, secret admirer, Jason, but he's

[01:12:08] getting flowers for me.

[01:12:09] I feel like he does this all the time.

[01:12:11] Like in his regular life, Aldous Hodge just randomly comes outside to flowers on his porch.

[01:12:15] Yeah.

[01:12:16] Uh, I'm pretty sure that's probably connected to his, uh, the personal case he's dealing

[01:12:20] with, but with whoever from his past.

[01:12:22] So that's probably what that is.

[01:12:23] Um, but yeah, like that was, that was a lot of, and listen, me and Mari have already

[01:12:28] seen episode three.

[01:12:29] Even the episode one and two or something.

[01:12:31] We took the episode three.

[01:12:32] That it shows a lot more light on what's happened with Shannon and what's going to happen with

[01:12:36] Shannon.

[01:12:36] It's very interesting.

[01:12:38] Uh, so stay tuned for that for sure.

[01:12:40] I'm definitely going to be working on finishing this, the season up during this week because,

[01:12:45] uh, I had to see the rest of it.

[01:12:47] Yeah.

[01:12:48] I'm gonna check it out as well.

[01:12:49] Uh, because I've already been seeing the Facebook statuses and, uh, tweets like,

[01:12:53] Oh, you're, Oh my God.

[01:12:55] The ending is crazy.

[01:12:57] It'll blow your ball.

[01:12:57] I'm like, hang on.

[01:12:59] Now I gotta watch it.

[01:12:59] Cause I will complain a little bit about this show.

[01:13:01] The pay ticket is very slow.

[01:13:03] Like we just talked about everything that happened in those first two episodes in like

[01:13:07] 20 minutes.

[01:13:08] And I mean, it really didn't take that much, you know, like it was this very, everything's

[01:13:13] drawn out.

[01:13:14] A lot of these conversations are fully fleshed out.

[01:13:16] Like they really bring you into the world and say like, sit in this.

[01:13:19] But for me, I'm like, Ooh, some of this could have been an email.

[01:13:23] So I might watch it.

[01:13:24] Oh, 1.5.

[01:13:25] Come on.

[01:13:26] I might put it on two X.

[01:13:28] No.

[01:13:29] Do I really care about him dating this girl back in middle school?

[01:13:31] Not really.

[01:13:32] Like keep yourself in the atmosphere.

[01:13:34] No, you never know what's going to be.

[01:13:38] It's drawing it out.

[01:13:39] I mean, that was the longest hour of my life episode.

[01:13:42] I said, God dang, is it a two-parter?

[01:13:44] Uh, so yeah, I will be checking it out and I hope that the listeners will check it out

[01:13:49] too.

[01:13:49] We tried to talk about it vaguely.

[01:13:52] We don't want to spoil anything for nobody.

[01:13:54] We won't give away any clues, um, too much that people haven't seen.

[01:13:57] But if you liked Cross, check it out.

[01:13:59] Let us know what you think here on Recap Kickback.

[01:14:01] Leave it in the comments.

[01:14:02] Tell us, like, Cross is crazy.

[01:14:03] I finished it and it's wild.

[01:14:05] But don't spoil it.

[01:14:06] Don't be that guy.

[01:14:07] Right.

[01:14:07] Don't spoil it.

[01:14:07] Don't be that person.

[01:14:08] We're trying to do things.

[01:14:09] Okay.

[01:14:10] I spoiled This Is Us.

[01:14:11] We move.

[01:14:14] Uh, anything else, Mari, from Cross episodes one and two?

[01:14:18] No, I just need to go and watch the, the, the, the rest of it.

[01:14:22] I'm, I'm so excited.

[01:14:23] Like, I, coming into this, I was like, oh God.

[01:14:27] Like, I just had, I had like hopes.

[01:14:29] I don't know if they were high because it just feels like every time they try and revive

[01:14:34] Alex Cross, it just never goes well.

[01:14:36] So the fact that we get a great representation of Cross, this, this deserves to be like a

[01:14:43] weekly show, you know, like weekly television, but it's fine.

[01:14:46] It's found a home on Prime Video.

[01:14:49] We already have confirmation of a second season.

[01:14:52] And yes.

[01:14:53] And Chappelle, when you, you had mentioned that he had turned down the, um, like making

[01:14:58] him white and stuff like that, I think that's, that was like in the tweet that I heard about,

[01:15:04] like a different tweet about, um, him with the second season.

[01:15:07] Like James Patterson had like a, uh, a particular set of ask before he signed the contract.

[01:15:14] And so like not whitewashing it and having the second season greenlit and all that first.

[01:15:20] And there was a couple other things, um, which is what made this possible.

[01:15:25] So I'm just excited to have such a, a great show to watch that.

[01:15:30] I don't know if a lot of people know about it, you know, I, I don't know.

[01:15:33] I don't feel like the marketing could have been as good as it, as it should have been,

[01:15:37] but yeah.

[01:15:39] Yeah.

[01:15:40] I'm, I'm excited to watch the rest.

[01:15:42] Yeah.

[01:15:42] Uh, and Jason, anything from the cross cinematic universe or book world that we should be noticing

[01:15:48] or talking about as we wrap up our conversations about episodes one and two.

[01:15:52] I will say, I think if you like cross and things like cross, I think it's prime, it's

[01:15:56] Amazon prime, uh, cousin slash brother Reacher.

[01:16:00] It would also be a good show of you to check out.

[01:16:02] Um, they have two seasons of that out already.

[01:16:04] That was pretty good.

[01:16:06] I recommend that if you, uh, if you like this, this sort of, uh, brooding leading man energy

[01:16:11] that's that show would also be good for you.

[01:16:13] Did you read the Reacher books?

[01:16:14] Jason?

[01:16:15] I'm in like, I'm in the middle of Reacher.

[01:16:17] Reacher also has a lot of books and I'm also doing Reacher.

[01:16:19] I was also doing Reacher, Alice Cross, one after the other type of thing.

[01:16:25] So I'm in, I'm still doing Reacher right now.

[01:16:26] I'm in the middle of a book.

[01:16:27] So have you read Will Trent?

[01:16:29] I haven't read Will Trent yet.

[01:16:30] No, you'll love, you'll love Will Trent.

[01:16:32] And the audio books are, um, great.

[01:16:36] There, there's like books two through four, five through seven.

[01:16:40] I literally read all like the 10, the 10 Will Trent books in the last like 10 months.

[01:16:46] Like that's how good they were.

[01:16:47] And I say that, like I took two months off after, you know, after I gave birth.

[01:16:52] So I've just been looking, listening to them back to back.

[01:16:55] They're 19 hours, audio books.

[01:16:57] But yeah, so yeah, Reacher is good.

[01:17:00] Reacher is, Reacher's good too.

[01:17:02] 19 hours is crazy.

[01:17:03] I gotta start reading fiction.

[01:17:05] I only read nonfiction books.

[01:17:06] So whenever people start going on this stuff, I'm like, yeah, I really just, I kind of recently

[01:17:11] got into it.

[01:17:11] Like, cause I was getting to a point where I'd run out a podcast and be like, all right,

[01:17:16] God forbid I'd be at work and not listen to something.

[01:17:18] So I'm like, what can I do?

[01:17:21] So I got into audio books and then I've just been voracious with it.

[01:17:24] Like, I think with the 30, 32 or so Alice Cross books, I think I've probably,

[01:17:29] I've done that in six months or so.

[01:17:34] What's the average hour on those?

[01:17:36] Those are usually nine hours per book.

[01:17:38] Oh yeah.

[01:17:39] Reacher is 13 hours a book, which is a lot.

[01:17:42] Like Reacher likes to explain stuff to you like real slow.

[01:17:46] Like Will Trent is 19 hours.

[01:17:48] It's 19 hours.

[01:17:49] Per book or?

[01:17:50] Per book.

[01:17:51] That's crazy.

[01:17:52] Oh, but it's cause it's, but it's the books are like jam packed.

[01:17:58] Like the case are, I'm telling you, if you, I'm telling you, you'll like them.

[01:18:03] I'll try it.

[01:18:04] I'll try it.

[01:18:05] Yeah.

[01:18:06] I will not.

[01:18:07] Um, but thank you so much, Jason, for coming and joining us to talk about this.

[01:18:11] I had no clue you were a cross expert, but anytime I can get you here on recap, kickback,

[01:18:15] I'm going to live with like, Hey, you got the green light.

[01:18:17] We got to talk about Papa's house at some point.

[01:18:19] Yeah.

[01:18:20] Yeah.

[01:18:20] That's, uh, I'd be down for that.

[01:18:22] Uh, for sure.

[01:18:23] Uh, you know, I think it's probably something I would have gone into without being asked,

[01:18:27] but, uh, yeah, I'd love to check that out.

[01:18:29] Cause you know, I'm a big Damon Wayans fan from way back.

[01:18:32] You know, uh, major pain was a formative movie in my childhood.

[01:18:36] Like one of my favorites from back.

[01:18:38] Yeah.

[01:18:38] Yeah.

[01:18:39] I was calling people ass eyes all throughout college.

[01:18:41] Jason, can you tell everybody else what you're doing these days, what you're working on

[01:18:45] and where they can find you?

[01:18:46] Uh, yeah, you can find me on the Rob has podcast network on the love

[01:18:49] at first sight fee talking about the show.

[01:18:51] Married at first sight with Asia Welch.

[01:18:53] Uh, we're every week on that.

[01:18:54] Mari is joining us a lot this season, uh, helping us out covering the show.

[01:18:58] Uh, we have a lot of fun over there.

[01:19:00] We are told all the time.

[01:19:01] You don't even need to watch Married at first sight to enjoy the podcast.

[01:19:04] So come on over.

[01:19:06] We're having a lot of fun.

[01:19:06] Also, I'm doing a, my own little separate private venture called good pod where me

[01:19:11] and Marissa Garza are covering the good wife and Elizabeth right now as that second

[01:19:14] season is going on.

[01:19:15] So two podcast week from the good pod for us for right now, come over and check it out.

[01:19:19] Had a lot of fun over there.

[01:19:20] Yeah.

[01:19:21] I heard some good stuff about Elizabeth recently and I was like, dang, do I need to go dive

[01:19:25] into the, into the good cinematic universe as well?

[01:19:28] I might, I might tiptoe and see what y'all been talking about over there.

[01:19:31] Cause it sounds interesting to me.

[01:19:32] Yeah.

[01:19:32] If you like some, uh, light murdery fun, like it's, that's where Elizabeth is.

[01:19:37] Elizabeth lives in like the, it's about a murder, but it's funny.

[01:19:42] Yeah.

[01:19:43] Cool.

[01:19:44] Cool.

[01:19:44] And Jason, where can the people find you on social media?

[01:19:46] If you got it.

[01:19:47] So I am on the blue ski.

[01:19:48] Um, I refuse to call them skeets.

[01:19:51] Uh, they is skeet y'all.

[01:19:54] I'm sorry.

[01:19:55] It is what it is.

[01:19:56] Uh, over there.

[01:19:57] I am.

[01:19:58] They are three, three D.

[01:19:59] I am still on the suspal that is Twitter at J a Y R one zero eight five.

[01:20:05] Yeah.

[01:20:06] And, uh, Mari, what you got going on besides, you know, watching six lives, lives of college

[01:20:11] girls and coming and joining me on the podcast as a special guest.

[01:20:15] Yeah.

[01:20:15] Yeah.

[01:20:15] Yeah.

[01:20:17] Um, wild way to find out you're getting fired.

[01:20:21] Uh, so, um, you can find me on crime scene.

[01:20:26] Me and Sarah Kerdin are over on a crime scene podcast.

[01:20:29] You go to crime scene pod.com.

[01:20:32] Um, this is very important because we found out that there has been, um, some issues with

[01:20:37] our crossover from our Spotify.

[01:20:39] So you might think that you're subscribed, but go make sure that you are subscribed, like,

[01:20:45] uh, go resubscribe, especially if you're on Spotify.

[01:20:48] Um, but you, the Apple, the Apple feed should have been fine, but just make sure that you

[01:20:54] are subscribed.

[01:20:55] Uh, once we moved, uh, independently, uh, it might've been a little gap there where you

[01:21:02] might not have been seeing our most recent episodes.

[01:21:05] So make sure you go to crime scene pod.com or type in crime scene, uh, the, the crime scene

[01:21:12] podcast on Apple music, wherever you find, wherever you get your podcast, just make sure

[01:21:17] you are subscribed to us.

[01:21:19] Uh, me and Sarah Kerdin talked to Rebecca Lavoie this week, um, talking about Woman of

[01:21:25] the Hour on Netflix.

[01:21:27] It is a feature, it's a feature film.

[01:21:30] It's a movie directed by Anna Kendrick, starring Anna Kendrick about Rodney Alcala, the dating

[01:21:37] game killer.

[01:21:37] It was a very interesting, uh, movie.

[01:21:41] I had, um, I, I had one thought process about it going into the podcast and then talking

[01:21:47] to Sarah and Rebecca definitely, um, might've changed my viewpoint.

[01:21:53] So definitely go check that out.

[01:21:54] We had a lot of fun over there.

[01:21:57] Um, like Jason said, uh, I'm on the married at first sight, uh, episode this week.

[01:22:04] We had a lot of fun.

[01:22:07] Maybe too much.

[01:22:07] It was hilarious.

[01:22:12] So definitely go check us out over there where, uh, Jason said, but I am on the blue

[01:22:18] sky.

[01:22:19] That's the only place you can find me because I, by the time y'all hear this, I will have

[01:22:24] deactivated the hellscape that is, uh, Twitter, uh, slash.

[01:22:30] Yeah.

[01:22:31] Um, so like, uh, you can go to at Maritalkstomuch.beastguide.social.

[01:22:37] Or just, you know, at Maritalkstomuch on blue sky.

[01:22:40] If you're already over there.

[01:22:41] I literally.

[01:22:41] We gotta cut down the usernames.

[01:22:43] Like, why do we have to have all that?

[01:22:44] I think you can shorten it if you use the Skeets app.

[01:22:48] I think you can shorten it on there.

[01:22:50] Oh, really?

[01:22:51] Yeah.

[01:22:51] And I think gray sky app has a shortener as well.

[01:22:55] But, uh, those are the only two that I've heard about, but I prefer the Skeets app.

[01:22:58] Honestly, it doesn't matter.

[01:22:59] Yeah.

[01:22:59] To me, honestly, it's just, if you literally just go and type in at Maritalkstomuchuch.com, you'll

[01:23:04] find it.

[01:23:05] So it's fine.

[01:23:06] So, yeah.

[01:23:07] Um, I've been sounding like a fanatic trying to get all of my IRLs onto that podcast, onto

[01:23:13] that, um, app.

[01:23:14] I'm like, y'all, everybody blue sky.

[01:23:17] Let's go.

[01:23:17] And my friends are like, do they were like Jason Reed?

[01:23:20] They're like, I'm too old to learn.

[01:23:22] I'm like, no, come on, come on.

[01:23:24] Stop it.

[01:23:25] Like I'm trying to push them there.

[01:23:27] So, uh, definitely follow me on blue sky.

[01:23:29] It's been so fun.

[01:23:30] And like, I feel like I'm interacting with people much more.

[01:23:33] Like, I feel like I'm actually talking to people on app where you're supposed to be able to

[01:23:37] talk to people.

[01:23:38] Funny that.

[01:23:38] So, um, yeah.

[01:23:40] And that's it.

[01:23:41] So follow me all those places.

[01:23:44] Chappelle, what about you?

[01:23:45] Follow me on recap kickback.

[01:23:47] I have my own blue sky account, but I really want more activity on the recap kickback blue sky.

[01:23:52] So follow me on all social media platforms, including X.

[01:23:56] It's still there for, uh, you know, until I decide to not be, but it's there if you're looking for it.

[01:24:00] And then, uh, catch up with all the other coverage we have here on recap kickback.

[01:24:05] G and I are talking about Abbott elementary, uh, every two episodes or so we're covering the, uh,

[01:24:10] the episode of Abbott elementary.

[01:24:12] There's a hiatus right now.

[01:24:13] Abbott is going to be taking a couple of breaks for the holidays.

[01:24:15] So we'll be popping in sparsely to talk about Abbott, but it is a great time.

[01:24:19] So check that out.

[01:24:20] Um, and then, uh, over on RAHP, the summit with, uh, Taryn house of villains with Jenny.

[01:25:12] We will catch you all next time.

[01:25:13] Bye.
