[00:01:18] What's up, fam? And welcome back to Recap Kickback. It's me, your host Chappelle, and I am back again to take you through another episode of Recap Kickback,

[00:01:26] where we talk about Black Entertainment News, and we recap our favorite television and movies and, you know, all the stuff that we like to go, you know, to get into here on Recap Kickback.

[00:01:36] And by me, I mean me and my lovely co-host here, Mari Forth. Mari, welcome back.

[00:01:42] We are back. We are Black, and there is a lot of news.

[00:01:46] Yeah, good times Black again.

[00:01:48] Yeah.

[00:01:51] Whatever that means.

[00:01:52] Thanks. Yes. There's a lot of Black news this week. We had talked about last week, we had a very fun episode where we talked about Beauty in Black.

[00:02:01] Yes, thanks, man.

[00:02:02] And we talked about the first two episodes. Mari and I had a blast talking about it, and so we were like, you know,

[00:02:08] we probably need to talk about the whole series once we get a certain special guest with purple pants to come on and join us.

[00:02:14] But we're going to put that on the back burner for just a little bit because we got a lot of Black entertainment news this week.

[00:02:22] I will say this, though, Mari. We did get some comments of the last podcast, and V Shorty said,

[00:02:28] I haven't laughed this hard.

[00:02:30] I watched episode 1 and 2 for about two weeks ago, and now I got to go finish it.

[00:02:33] Yes. Go finish Beauty in Black and then come back and join us here.

[00:02:37] Make sure you subscribe to the podcast so you can keep up with all of our recaps and all our Black entertainment news.

[00:02:43] We got a lot coming your way.

[00:02:45] Spooky season is over, so make sure you are subscribed.

[00:02:48] Hit that like button. Hit that thumbs up on the YouTube video.

[00:02:51] If you're watching it on YouTube, youtube.com slash at Recap Kickback.

[00:02:54] And that'll keep you abreast of everything that we have going on.

[00:02:57] But today, we got to get into the news.

[00:03:00] Mari.

[00:03:01] Yes.

[00:03:01] I don't know what happened, but the first time we say,

[00:03:04] we'll keep the Black entertainment news short,

[00:03:07] Black stuff just started popping up out of nowhere.

[00:03:08] And I was like, oh, okay, we doing this?

[00:03:10] So we got a lot to discuss.

[00:03:11] All over the place.

[00:03:12] All over the place.

[00:03:13] I was like, okay, yeah, next week, we'll just talk Beauty in Black.

[00:03:17] It'll be all good.

[00:03:19] We have, because we'll have six more additional episodes to talk about.

[00:03:23] So let's just, we'll just jump right in.

[00:03:25] Nope.

[00:03:26] Nope.

[00:03:27] All hell just decided to kind of like break loose,

[00:03:29] like right around Halloween.

[00:03:31] Like what happened?

[00:03:32] Like what?

[00:03:34] It was a lot.

[00:03:35] It was a lot.

[00:03:36] I mean, let's get into one of the bigger headlines.

[00:03:39] How about that?

[00:03:39] So one of the things we have been flagging up lately

[00:03:43] is that we saw this coming.

[00:03:44] It was on our to-do list.

[00:03:45] We got to watch it because we are supporters here of the hotties.

[00:03:49] And it happened.

[00:03:51] Mari, Meg Thee Stallion's documentary has dropped.

[00:03:54] And I believe you've watched it all.

[00:03:56] Oh yeah.

[00:03:57] I watched it.

[00:03:58] Meg Thee Stallion, in her words.

[00:04:00] It was like an hour.

[00:04:02] It was like a little over an hour and a half, I believe.

[00:04:05] Almost two hours, maybe.

[00:04:07] A documentary on Amazon Prime.

[00:04:09] And baby, when I told you I watched that documentary,

[00:04:13] I was sobbing.

[00:04:16] Oh no.

[00:04:17] It was so good though.

[00:04:19] Like it was literally Meg talking about what happened to her.

[00:04:24] Like, I don't know,

[00:04:27] like when they decided to make this documentary,

[00:04:30] but it did start.

[00:04:31] They did have footage.

[00:04:32] Like they had all this behind the scenes footage of her

[00:04:35] going back to 2016.

[00:04:37] So like,

[00:04:38] like it's very interesting because of course,

[00:04:41] if you don't know,

[00:04:43] my other podcast is the Crime Scene Podcast,

[00:04:46] where we break down documentaries and docuseries,

[00:04:49] like true crime documentaries and docuseries.

[00:04:51] So whenever I watch,

[00:04:53] yes.

[00:04:55] Just for you.

[00:04:57] Yes.

[00:04:57] Whenever I watch documentaries and stuff now,

[00:04:59] I'm always looking at the production side of it.

[00:05:02] And so this one I thought was really good because like I said,

[00:05:08] they had footage of her going back to 2016 and following her up until

[00:05:14] like this year,

[00:05:16] last year or throughout the trial,

[00:05:19] all of that interspersed with her,

[00:05:21] like as a talking head,

[00:05:23] like,

[00:05:24] like clearly present day Meg talking about what happened,

[00:05:28] you know,

[00:05:29] over,

[00:05:29] over.

[00:05:29] And the whole time I was like,

[00:05:32] it didn't seem like a documentary where they're like,

[00:05:35] Hey,

[00:05:35] we're going to make a documentary of this time.

[00:05:37] It didn't seem like that to me.

[00:05:39] It seemed like she had a lot of cameras around her at certain periods.

[00:05:44] So,

[00:05:45] um,

[00:05:46] like in 2016,

[00:05:47] 2018,

[00:05:48] when,

[00:05:48] when we're first starting to talk about her first popping off,

[00:05:51] they have cameras behind the scenes of her video with money bag,

[00:05:55] yo,

[00:05:55] and stuff like that.

[00:05:56] Okay.

[00:05:57] And so it's like,

[00:05:58] I'm real.

[00:05:59] I think I,

[00:06:00] what I realized,

[00:06:01] but I'm not too sure.

[00:06:02] Cause I didn't get to look into the technical side of it,

[00:06:04] but it looked like they kind of gathered all this footage from the past few

[00:06:09] years that they had.

[00:06:10] Um,

[00:06:11] and then what they,

[00:06:12] what they didn't have,

[00:06:13] uh,

[00:06:13] they,

[00:06:13] they use really dope animation,

[00:06:15] um,

[00:06:16] in between Chappelle,

[00:06:18] you've been on crime scene a few times where we've had documentaries with,

[00:06:21] with animation.

[00:06:23] This was just so apropos because we know that Meg the stallion is an anime fan.

[00:06:27] So yeah.

[00:06:28] Yeah.

[00:06:29] Yeah.

[00:06:29] So the animation was very anime esque and that kind of filled in the gaps for

[00:06:33] stuff we didn't have.

[00:06:35] And it was just so good.

[00:06:38] Like the documentary itself was produced so well.

[00:06:41] Um,

[00:06:42] and it,

[00:06:43] it gave me as a person who,

[00:06:45] who has been following her for a long time and who know,

[00:06:48] who like just knows like a lot of the,

[00:06:50] like,

[00:06:51] if you just know a lot of the headline stuff,

[00:06:54] it really makes you feel like,

[00:06:55] Oh,

[00:06:56] I'm watching what happened behind the scenes because we would get her reaction.

[00:07:00] Like after she did the Gail King interview and we would just see her scrolling on her phone,

[00:07:05] her reaction to seeing everybody react to the Gail King interview,

[00:07:09] which is not great.

[00:07:11] And then on top of that,

[00:07:12] they also called like people out there posting,

[00:07:14] um,

[00:07:14] social media posts.

[00:07:17] Ooh.

[00:07:17] Okay.

[00:07:17] I got to cuss some people out.

[00:07:18] I'm sorry.

[00:07:19] This is going to be,

[00:07:19] this is very long,

[00:07:20] but anyways.

[00:07:22] Yeah.

[00:07:22] Yeah.

[00:07:22] Thank you.

[00:07:23] So,

[00:07:23] uh,

[00:07:25] you're really seeing her,

[00:07:26] her like firsthand reactions to some of the stuff that she was seeing.

[00:07:31] And it was like,

[00:07:32] I,

[00:07:32] what really stuck to me.

[00:07:33] And one of the parts I said,

[00:07:34] I was like,

[00:07:35] really like kind of choking up on was,

[00:07:36] um,

[00:07:37] I remember when Meg did,

[00:07:38] uh,

[00:07:39] SNL,

[00:07:40] um,

[00:07:41] just like what,

[00:07:42] just like two years,

[00:07:43] like right before the trial.

[00:07:44] So it was in 2022,

[00:07:45] I believe.

[00:07:46] Um,

[00:07:47] yeah,

[00:07:47] she had just did,

[00:07:48] um,

[00:07:49] she had just did SNL and she was on SNL.

[00:07:53] And I watched that SNL.

[00:07:54] It was a really good one.

[00:07:56] Um,

[00:07:56] and she was performing anxiety and she started choking up thinking about her mom.

[00:08:01] Um,

[00:08:02] and I remember that performance made me go back and revisit Tramazine.

[00:08:06] Cause of course I had,

[00:08:07] I had downloaded,

[00:08:09] I had downloaded it when it came out.

[00:08:11] I'm pretty sure I did like one run through of it,

[00:08:13] you know,

[00:08:14] streamed it once to support and stuff like that.

[00:08:16] Um,

[00:08:17] but when it came out,

[00:08:18] I just was not in the headspace with music.

[00:08:20] And so when I saw the SNL performance and like,

[00:08:25] I,

[00:08:26] I,

[00:08:26] it was just such a good heartbreaking performance.

[00:08:28] I went back and I was like,

[00:08:31] I was like,

[00:08:31] damn.

[00:08:32] And Tramazine has literally been on rotation for me.

[00:08:36] Like since then,

[00:08:38] like every,

[00:08:39] like at least once a week,

[00:08:40] that's like,

[00:08:42] and it just,

[00:08:43] it just reminded me of how much of like,

[00:08:46] how much I supported,

[00:08:47] I supported her as a person first and then how the music followed.

[00:08:53] But I say all that to say,

[00:08:54] it is a great documentary.

[00:08:56] It talks about,

[00:08:57] it talks about like a lot of the porn stuff with her life.

[00:09:01] I,

[00:09:01] I do have to say,

[00:09:02] I wasn't there at the very beginning.

[00:09:04] I,

[00:09:04] I really got on the Meg train like 2018,

[00:09:07] 2019.

[00:09:08] So like right before the,

[00:09:11] like right before the shooting and all that stuff.

[00:09:14] And I remember when I came on,

[00:09:15] they were like,

[00:09:16] oh yeah,

[00:09:16] her mom died.

[00:09:17] I was like,

[00:09:17] oh man,

[00:09:17] that's tragic.

[00:09:19] I,

[00:09:19] I didn't know her mom had just died.

[00:09:22] Like I,

[00:09:23] you know what I'm saying?

[00:09:24] Like I didn't realize like how fresh her mother's death was like,

[00:09:30] and how horrible it is about like her mom dies.

[00:09:34] And then basically immediately her,

[00:09:37] her,

[00:09:38] her song,

[00:09:39] I think it was big old freak.

[00:09:40] They,

[00:09:40] they go free.

[00:09:42] Yeah.

[00:09:43] Yeah.

[00:09:44] Takes off.

[00:09:45] And then she's just like,

[00:09:46] now she is thrust into stardom with her number one supporter.

[00:09:50] Her mom,

[00:09:51] who was her manager is gone.

[00:09:53] Like it,

[00:09:53] that was,

[00:09:54] that part was crazy.

[00:09:55] So I loved everything that they included.

[00:09:57] I love everything that they didn't include.

[00:10:00] party.

[00:10:01] Bye.

[00:10:02] See ya.

[00:10:02] We don't need to talk about you.

[00:10:05] We didn't need to talk about granny.

[00:10:08] We didn't need to talk about her.

[00:10:16] whoever she is.

[00:10:17] Yeah.

[00:10:19] I like,

[00:10:20] I thought it,

[00:10:21] I thought it was very interesting.

[00:10:22] They didn't like,

[00:10:23] they didn't really talk about any of her relationships and they just focused on like the case and all of that.

[00:10:28] And,

[00:10:29] and her,

[00:10:30] her going through her mental issues and all of that.

[00:10:32] It was so good.

[00:10:33] It was really good.

[00:10:35] Yeah.

[00:10:35] And now here comes the portion where I have to cut some people out.

[00:10:38] I'm sorry.

[00:10:38] Again,

[00:10:39] do your thing.

[00:10:40] They played.

[00:10:41] So like each time something would happen,

[00:10:43] you know what I'm saying?

[00:10:43] Like the Gayle King interview,

[00:10:45] um,

[00:10:46] her initially getting shot,

[00:10:49] Tory coming out,

[00:10:50] you know,

[00:10:51] his first time when he first came out and said some stuff and she was like,

[00:10:54] wait,

[00:10:55] what are you talking about?

[00:10:56] Um,

[00:10:56] like each time something like that happened,

[00:10:59] they showed like the clips of,

[00:11:01] uh,

[00:11:01] of people talking reckless,

[00:11:03] looking at you,

[00:11:04] Joe Budden,

[00:11:05] you dumb ass,

[00:11:05] uh,

[00:11:06] like fucking academics.

[00:11:09] Fuck you too.

[00:11:10] Like,

[00:11:11] and even,

[00:11:13] even once the,

[00:11:14] the,

[00:11:14] once it got back,

[00:11:15] once it got close,

[00:11:16] fresh and fit,

[00:11:17] fuck them too.

[00:11:17] Sorry.

[00:11:18] That like all of the red pill dummies.

[00:11:21] I hate y'all.

[00:11:22] I don't care.

[00:11:23] Whatever.

[00:11:24] Um,

[00:11:25] and so,

[00:11:28] and so like,

[00:11:29] um,

[00:11:30] and then they got to the part where like,

[00:11:32] you know,

[00:11:33] once Tory was on trial,

[00:11:35] then some celebrities started to pipe up dummies like the baby who,

[00:11:42] where are you,

[00:11:43] sir?

[00:11:43] Where are you at now?

[00:11:44] I saw an article recently that said the baby is ready to reconcile with Meg.

[00:11:48] And I'm like,

[00:11:49] I bet because,

[00:11:49] uh,

[00:11:50] go kick some fucking rocks.

[00:11:52] Uh,

[00:11:52] the baby and Meg made good music together.

[00:11:55] I bet he,

[00:11:56] when she had birthed that bridge,

[00:11:57] cause I haven't been hearing a lot from the baby lately.

[00:11:59] And that is a crazy,

[00:12:00] that's another,

[00:12:01] like they,

[00:12:01] they go into Kelsey too,

[00:12:03] a lot in this documentary.

[00:12:04] I mean like she's there.

[00:12:05] So it was like,

[00:12:06] I really like between Kelsey and the baby,

[00:12:08] I'm like,

[00:12:09] y'all really burnt that bridge for Tory.

[00:12:12] Y'all thought Tory could do more for you than what Meg was currently doing.

[00:12:16] Like,

[00:12:16] I will never understand that.

[00:12:19] Yeah.

[00:12:21] And so like,

[00:12:22] uh,

[00:12:23] when Drake said something,

[00:12:25] but more importantly,

[00:12:26] more important,

[00:12:27] LeBron got his lashes too.

[00:12:29] I,

[00:12:29] I think that shit,

[00:12:30] LeBron,

[00:12:31] like,

[00:12:31] Oh,

[00:12:32] I think,

[00:12:33] I think you didn't see that.

[00:12:34] When,

[00:12:35] um,

[00:12:36] Oh yeah.

[00:12:37] When Tory,

[00:12:38] when Tory was going through trial,

[00:12:41] LeBron,

[00:12:42] uh,

[00:12:42] dropped a video of him playing Tory's music again.

[00:12:45] Oh yeah.

[00:12:45] I remember that.

[00:12:46] Yes.

[00:12:46] And he was like,

[00:12:47] Oh,

[00:12:47] this boy fire,

[00:12:48] uh,

[00:12:49] free Tory lanes and all that stuff.

[00:12:52] You deserve a,

[00:12:53] a,

[00:12:53] a,

[00:12:54] a,

[00:12:54] a,

[00:12:54] a lashing too,

[00:12:55] LeBron.

[00:12:56] You ain't,

[00:12:56] yeah,

[00:12:57] you ain't,

[00:12:57] you ain't immune.

[00:12:59] Yeah.

[00:13:02] Listen,

[00:13:03] Mari clearly has a lot of feelings tied to this.

[00:13:06] but she's watching it and I listen,

[00:13:07] it's an extremely emotional conversation to have anyway.

[00:13:10] One thing that's bothered me about this case since day one has always been like,

[00:13:14] okay,

[00:13:14] let's follow me.

[00:13:15] People.

[00:13:16] Johnny had two apples,

[00:13:17] you know,

[00:13:17] like it's not that complicated.

[00:13:19] There are three people who could have done this.

[00:13:21] One is Meg.

[00:13:22] Nobody is saying Meg did this.

[00:13:24] One is Kelsey.

[00:13:25] Nobody is saying Kelsey did this.

[00:13:27] One is Tory.

[00:13:29] Nope.

[00:13:29] Everybody is saying Tory did it.

[00:13:33] You know,

[00:13:33] like,

[00:13:34] I mean,

[00:13:34] come on y'all follow me with this one.

[00:13:35] You know,

[00:13:36] Meg says Tory shot me.

[00:13:37] Kelsey said,

[00:13:37] I don't know who did it.

[00:13:38] Tory does not say,

[00:13:39] Tory does not say it was Kelsey.

[00:13:41] He does not initially say that.

[00:13:42] He says,

[00:13:43] nobody got shot.

[00:13:44] We find the bullets.

[00:13:45] People say,

[00:13:45] Oh,

[00:13:45] she lied.

[00:13:46] Blah,

[00:13:46] blah.

[00:13:46] We have the bullets.

[00:13:48] We have seen the feet.

[00:13:49] We know this woman was shot.

[00:13:53] Kelsey and Tory Lane didn't even get on the same page and both say,

[00:13:56] well,

[00:13:56] it was Megan.

[00:13:56] She shot herself.

[00:13:57] At least that would have been a valid effort,

[00:13:59] but them fools went in there like,

[00:14:01] Oh no,

[00:14:01] who did it?

[00:14:02] It's one of you idiots.

[00:14:03] And then eventually Kelsey folds.

[00:14:06] And I think the argument people have been saying against Tory Lane is like,

[00:14:09] Oh,

[00:14:09] well,

[00:14:09] you know,

[00:14:09] he didn't do it.

[00:14:10] Just maybe Kelsey shot her in Tory Lane.

[00:14:12] Maybe you should have spoke your dumb ass up and said,

[00:14:14] Kelsey shot me.

[00:14:15] People,

[00:14:15] I mean,

[00:14:16] shot her.

[00:14:16] Cause people were trying to say like,

[00:14:17] Oh,

[00:14:18] he didn't want to be a snitch and all this other stuff.

[00:14:20] I snitched to Kelsey,

[00:14:21] a random chick that you don't even know.

[00:14:22] You just go to jail for anybody who make an accusation about you.

[00:14:25] Anybody?

[00:14:25] Well,

[00:14:27] apparently they're saying that Tory and Kelsey were,

[00:14:30] were dating.

[00:14:31] And even then,

[00:14:32] what difference does it make?

[00:14:34] Exactly.

[00:14:36] So this documentary really,

[00:14:37] y'all,

[00:14:38] it really goes,

[00:14:38] it shows you her,

[00:14:40] like the medical,

[00:14:41] like,

[00:14:42] like her feet,

[00:14:43] like the x-rays.

[00:14:44] It shows her like trying to perform after it shows like.

[00:14:49] What people still to this day,

[00:14:52] stupidly don't realize is like,

[00:14:54] she did not press the charges.

[00:14:57] California did like people like California has strict ass gun laws.

[00:15:03] They have some of the strictest gun laws in the country.

[00:15:07] Tory Lanez is not a U S citizen who is on probation,

[00:15:11] who shouldn't have been even near a gun,

[00:15:15] let alone we're discussing if he shot one off.

[00:15:19] Like he went to jail mostly for being in the presence of an illegal firearm

[00:15:25] and possessing a legal firearm.

[00:15:27] Like he barely,

[00:15:29] he barely got sentenced for the actual shooting.

[00:15:31] You know what I'm saying?

[00:15:32] Like.

[00:15:33] She's allowed to protect that man.

[00:15:35] Exactly.

[00:15:36] And then she's sitting there like,

[00:15:37] damn,

[00:15:37] look at me trying to save this man.

[00:15:38] And he on the internet playing in my face,

[00:15:40] trying to make it seem like,

[00:15:41] you know,

[00:15:42] all this other stuff is going on.

[00:15:44] We know that.

[00:15:46] Yeah.

[00:15:46] Yeah.

[00:15:47] He got what he deserved.

[00:15:49] I'm not going to go stand here.

[00:15:50] Ten toes down for no Canadian,

[00:15:52] you know,

[00:15:52] no disrespect to the Canadian.

[00:15:54] But like,

[00:15:54] five foot,

[00:15:55] five foot four.

[00:15:57] He don't even go music.

[00:15:59] Right.

[00:15:59] Y'all got,

[00:15:59] y'all think I'm going to really throw this lady under the bus because Tory Lanez,

[00:16:03] somebody who don't even live here,

[00:16:04] decided that he going to pull a gun on her.

[00:16:06] Like,

[00:16:06] stop it.

[00:16:06] Stop.

[00:16:06] Stop playing.

[00:16:07] Stop playing.

[00:16:07] So yeah,

[00:16:09] check out the documentary.

[00:16:10] Obviously there's a lot in there.

[00:16:12] You got to check it out.

[00:16:13] But you know,

[00:16:13] again,

[00:16:14] listen,

[00:16:14] if you're listening to this and you're like,

[00:16:15] I think,

[00:16:16] man,

[00:16:16] you could go,

[00:16:17] you know what I'm saying?

[00:16:18] We don't necessarily need listeners who go and believe that this woman

[00:16:21] then came up,

[00:16:22] fabricated the bullets,

[00:16:23] fabricated all this stuff,

[00:16:24] made it up just to victimize a black man from Canada.

[00:16:28] Like,

[00:16:28] you know,

[00:16:29] like Canadian black men have been taking some L's this year and it's all

[00:16:32] their fault.

[00:16:32] You know,

[00:16:32] I'm just going to say that right there.

[00:16:34] I'm not going to,

[00:16:35] I'm not going to go into that too much further.

[00:16:37] Yeah.

[00:16:39] Well,

[00:16:39] yeah.

[00:16:40] Whack them again.

[00:16:41] Whack them for me.

[00:16:42] You know what I'm saying?

[00:16:43] So yeah,

[00:16:43] check that out.

[00:16:44] And yeah,

[00:16:45] I think that it's already,

[00:16:47] it's cool that it's about Meg because like I said,

[00:16:48] she's,

[00:16:49] she's,

[00:16:49] she's dope as hell.

[00:16:50] My biggest fear is that Meg is just going to leave us and go to

[00:16:52] Japan and never come back because why would she stay the way

[00:16:55] people be acting around her?

[00:16:56] Yeah.

[00:16:58] She did.

[00:16:59] It happens before.

[00:16:59] Tina Turner left.

[00:17:00] I think,

[00:17:01] um,

[00:17:02] who else?

[00:17:02] Yeah.

[00:17:03] Tina Turner.

[00:17:03] Black folks always stay leaving.

[00:17:05] Yeah.

[00:17:06] Yeah.

[00:17:06] Josephine Baker left.

[00:17:08] Yeah.

[00:17:08] James Baldwin.

[00:17:10] We deserve to be left.

[00:17:12] Sometimes you got to get,

[00:17:13] sometimes you got to get left behind before you can appreciate

[00:17:15] something,

[00:17:15] you know?

[00:17:16] Yeah.

[00:17:17] And also,

[00:17:18] I don't,

[00:17:18] we didn't talk about it,

[00:17:19] but act two was amazing.

[00:17:22] That.

[00:17:22] Oh.

[00:17:23] Her CD.

[00:17:24] Act two.

[00:17:25] Yes.

[00:17:25] Oh my God.

[00:17:26] The remix of,

[00:17:27] uh,

[00:17:27] Mamushi with twice.

[00:17:30] she got a rock song on there too.

[00:17:33] Yes.

[00:17:34] Yes.

[00:17:36] Oh yeah.

[00:17:36] Speaking of music for the music fans out there,

[00:17:39] we're going to have a special guest on recap.

[00:17:40] Kick back.

[00:17:41] So eight ball bangers is going to be joining us.

[00:17:43] Isaiah,

[00:17:43] uh,

[00:17:43] will be joining me to talk about,

[00:17:45] uh,

[00:17:46] the new title of the creator album.

[00:17:47] Mari.

[00:17:48] Now I know you ain't the biggest title of the creator fan,

[00:17:52] but I was listening to music the other day.

[00:17:54] And I,

[00:17:54] and I listened to a song and I was like,

[00:17:57] man,

[00:17:57] I know Mari would like this.

[00:17:59] The problem is,

[00:18:02] the problem is,

[00:18:03] uh,

[00:18:04] there's a certain rapper on this,

[00:18:05] uh,

[00:18:05] song that I don't think Mari is going to really get with it too much.

[00:18:08] And so,

[00:18:09] um,

[00:18:09] I was,

[00:18:10] I sent Mari a screenshot from Chromocopia.

[00:18:12] I was like,

[00:18:13] Hey,

[00:18:13] check this song out.

[00:18:14] This is the one.

[00:18:15] And Mari starts texting me like,

[00:18:16] Oh,

[00:18:16] okay.

[00:18:16] I hear it.

[00:18:17] I was texting.

[00:18:18] I was listening to it.

[00:18:20] One sneak,

[00:18:21] but okay.

[00:18:22] I'll let it go.

[00:18:23] And then y'all,

[00:18:24] I get on Twitter and I see Mari like this Chromocopia kind of good.

[00:18:27] I was like,

[00:18:27] thank you.

[00:18:29] So check out that Tyler creator album.

[00:18:31] Mari,

[00:18:31] did you listen to the whole thing?

[00:18:33] No,

[00:18:33] I didn't get a chance to listen to the whole thing,

[00:18:35] but I,

[00:18:35] I,

[00:18:36] uh,

[00:18:36] after,

[00:18:37] after I listened to sticky,

[00:18:38] which was heat.

[00:18:40] Um,

[00:18:41] I,

[00:18:41] I did look at what everybody else said and I,

[00:18:44] and I listened to,

[00:18:45] what was the other one?

[00:18:46] Damn it.

[00:18:46] You,

[00:18:47] you tweeted about it.

[00:18:49] Um,

[00:18:50] Oh,

[00:18:50] it's,

[00:18:51] it's evading me right now.

[00:18:53] Yeah.

[00:18:54] So if I did listen to a few,

[00:18:56] few,

[00:18:57] um,

[00:18:58] a few songs,

[00:18:59] but,

[00:19:00] and they're good.

[00:19:00] I keep forgetting like Tyler,

[00:19:03] their creator does do good music.

[00:19:06] But people were,

[00:19:08] people were bringing it up.

[00:19:09] Like I like odd future Tyler had like seared himself into my memory.

[00:19:16] So that's what I always think of.

[00:19:19] And I forget that he's kind of,

[00:19:20] he's definitely like branched away and evolved since then.

[00:19:23] But like we,

[00:19:26] we were around like the target,

[00:19:30] like we were the target.

[00:19:31] Yeah.

[00:19:32] And I was like,

[00:19:32] I can't get with this.

[00:19:34] So yeah.

[00:19:35] Yeah.

[00:19:36] Um,

[00:19:36] but I remember his,

[00:19:38] uh,

[00:19:38] BET when he,

[00:19:39] um,

[00:19:39] did that BET performance.

[00:19:41] When he was wearing wigs.

[00:19:42] New magic,

[00:19:43] new magic,

[00:19:44] new magic.

[00:19:44] I don't know.

[00:19:45] The one where he was like rapping and he was getting blown away.

[00:19:48] Like,

[00:19:48] yeah,

[00:19:49] yeah,

[00:19:49] yeah.

[00:19:49] Like everything.

[00:19:50] That one was cool.

[00:19:51] I remember thinking like,

[00:19:52] damn,

[00:19:52] this song is good.

[00:19:53] Like I just,

[00:19:54] I just haven't,

[00:19:55] I haven't,

[00:19:55] I never went back to revisit Tyler after all of the like shenanigan music he was originally

[00:20:01] doing.

[00:20:01] So.

[00:20:02] Yeah,

[00:20:02] no,

[00:20:02] his music is way better.

[00:20:04] And it's,

[00:20:05] uh,

[00:20:05] than it used to be.

[00:20:05] One of your faves,

[00:20:06] right?

[00:20:07] Yeah.

[00:20:07] He,

[00:20:07] he has been recently.

[00:20:09] Like he initially was not,

[00:20:10] I was not the odd future target audience.

[00:20:12] Uh,

[00:20:12] it just wasn't,

[00:20:13] that music was not for me,

[00:20:14] but since Igor,

[00:20:15] uh,

[00:20:16] the run that he's had Igor come when you get lost.

[00:20:18] And now this three in a row,

[00:20:20] Hey,

[00:20:21] I'm all about quality and he's got some good stuff on there.

[00:20:24] And so check that out,

[00:20:25] uh,

[00:20:25] or at least check out the podcast or Isaiah and I are going to review it.

[00:20:29] Um,

[00:20:30] especially Mario,

[00:20:31] there's an interesting song on there called I killed you.

[00:20:34] Uh,

[00:20:35] and it's track number six.

[00:20:36] And if you listen to it at first,

[00:20:38] you wouldn't know this,

[00:20:39] but it's about black folks in their relationship with their hair.

[00:20:42] So check it out.

[00:20:43] I guarantee you,

[00:20:44] you can be like,

[00:20:45] Oh,

[00:20:45] that was interesting.

[00:20:47] Yeah.

[00:20:47] And then make sure you check out the podcast when eight ball bangers and I,

[00:20:51] uh,

[00:20:51] talk about that.

[00:20:55] Do you want to talk about sexy red?

[00:20:57] Let's.

[00:20:58] Okay.

[00:20:59] So,

[00:21:00] recently,

[00:21:00] you know,

[00:21:01] in the wake of,

[00:21:02] you know,

[00:21:03] our upcoming presidential election,

[00:21:05] we have been seeing a lot of tweets and whatnot about different artists,

[00:21:12] different celebrities that are endorsing,

[00:21:14] uh,

[00:21:14] their presidential candidate of choice.

[00:21:16] Uh,

[00:21:17] in the past,

[00:21:18] sexy red was trying to make sexy a great again.

[00:21:21] We,

[00:21:21] we saw that a lot.

[00:21:22] That was her whole little slogan.

[00:21:24] Uh,

[00:21:25] yet.

[00:21:25] Sexy for president is literally her website.

[00:21:28] Right.

[00:21:29] Sexy for president,

[00:21:30] which is absurd,

[00:21:31] but it's still a thing.

[00:21:32] Right.

[00:21:33] And,

[00:21:33] and that's okay.

[00:21:34] You know what I'm saying?

[00:21:35] People can have aspirations,

[00:21:36] but what I was not expecting is for sexy to seemingly change,

[00:21:41] uh,

[00:21:42] allegiances here because what I saw,

[00:21:44] Mari was sexy red has now endorsed Kamala Harris and also voted for her

[00:21:49] already.

[00:21:50] So,

[00:21:50] uh,

[00:21:50] look at that sexy red on the right side of history.

[00:21:52] She's trying to win you back over Mari.

[00:21:55] Yeah.

[00:21:57] Yeah.

[00:21:59] so her,

[00:22:01] her,

[00:22:01] her album is called in sexy.

[00:22:03] We trust like it.

[00:22:04] It's so weird.

[00:22:05] Like all of the American iconography that she's used and the,

[00:22:11] the post that she,

[00:22:12] um,

[00:22:13] endorses Kamala in,

[00:22:14] she has two,

[00:22:15] I voted stickers on like one on each cheek.

[00:22:18] She's bent over.

[00:22:20] And she says,

[00:22:21] she,

[00:22:22] she says something to the effect of like,

[00:22:25] um,

[00:22:25] I voted for Kamala because they can't tell us what we can do with our

[00:22:29] coochies.

[00:22:30] Like real.

[00:22:32] Is that not real?

[00:22:35] It's listen,

[00:22:36] a point.

[00:22:36] She's pro look.

[00:22:38] She said,

[00:22:38] uh,

[00:22:39] I'm pro choice.

[00:22:40] Uh,

[00:22:41] they can't tell me what to do with my coochie.

[00:22:42] She's about women having the right to bodily autonomy.

[00:22:45] Uh,

[00:22:46] now don't get me wrong.

[00:22:47] Some people,

[00:22:48] some people might need some rules and regulation behind,

[00:22:51] uh,

[00:22:51] their private parts.

[00:22:52] Not like a blanket,

[00:22:54] you know,

[00:22:54] like no,

[00:22:55] all women are all men,

[00:22:56] but sexy red,

[00:22:57] you'd be making some interesting decisions about what you say about your

[00:23:00] private parts and what you do with them on music.

[00:23:03] And you know,

[00:23:04] it's art.

[00:23:04] It is art.

[00:23:06] However,

[00:23:06] you know,

[00:23:07] we shouldn't be promoting discharge.

[00:23:09] I just think that like,

[00:23:10] how about that?

[00:23:11] Oh yeah.

[00:23:12] Cause her,

[00:23:13] um,

[00:23:14] what is it?

[00:23:14] Her,

[00:23:15] didn't we talk about her makeup line?

[00:23:18] Yeah.

[00:23:18] Her,

[00:23:18] her lip gloss,

[00:23:19] her lip gloss line.

[00:23:21] Yeah.

[00:23:21] Yellow discharge.

[00:23:22] Yeah.

[00:23:23] Yeah.

[00:23:23] What are we doing?

[00:23:23] What are we doing sexy?

[00:23:25] Uh,

[00:23:25] so yeah,

[00:23:26] looks like the tide is turning on a lot of these naysayers when it comes to

[00:23:31] our presidential candidate.

[00:23:33] And that's good to know.

[00:23:34] Uh,

[00:23:35] cause it,

[00:23:35] it's,

[00:23:36] it's,

[00:23:36] it's getting kind of close.

[00:23:37] This will drop.

[00:23:38] Normally we drop these episodes on Thursday,

[00:23:39] but this will drop prior to the election.

[00:23:42] So we actually don't know what the outcome is right now.

[00:23:46] Um,

[00:23:46] but I'm go,

[00:23:49] go vote,

[00:23:50] go vote,

[00:23:50] go vote for,

[00:23:51] go vote.

[00:23:52] Just go vote.

[00:23:53] You know what I'm saying?

[00:23:53] Just do that for us.

[00:23:55] Go vote.

[00:23:55] If you ain't going to use your vote,

[00:23:57] if you were like,

[00:23:57] I wasn't going to vote at all,

[00:23:58] but you heard Chappelle and Mari talk about it.

[00:24:00] Go vote for us.

[00:24:01] You know what I'm saying?

[00:24:02] Yes.

[00:24:02] Go ahead and do give us your vote.

[00:24:04] If you're not going to use it,

[00:24:05] we'll take it.

[00:24:05] Okay.

[00:24:05] Just donate it to us.

[00:24:07] Um,

[00:24:07] because like I said,

[00:24:09] the celebrities are coming out.

[00:24:10] Uh,

[00:24:10] the big names are coming out and Kamala is making some appearances.

[00:24:14] She popped in on Saturday night live.

[00:24:17] And I think this was relatively like a surprise for most people because I'm pretty sure she

[00:24:23] was like in North Carolina the same day or like she's been all over the place.

[00:24:26] Yeah.

[00:24:27] Yeah.

[00:24:27] She's making a round.

[00:24:29] Some camping.

[00:24:30] Yeah.

[00:24:31] And you haven't seen her on SNL yet?

[00:24:34] Uh,

[00:24:35] no,

[00:24:35] I,

[00:24:35] I,

[00:24:35] I recorded this episode of SNL,

[00:24:37] but I didn't get a chance to watch it yet.

[00:24:39] I'll probably watch it after this,

[00:24:40] but,

[00:24:41] um,

[00:24:41] yeah,

[00:24:42] she popped up and her and my Rudolph,

[00:24:43] I know I saw they did,

[00:24:44] um,

[00:24:45] some Tik TOKs together too.

[00:24:47] So yeah.

[00:24:48] Yeah.

[00:24:48] She's making an effort to meet people where they are.

[00:24:52] That's what I kind of love about Kamala.

[00:24:55] Uh,

[00:24:55] she was also,

[00:24:56] she's on a whole bunch of like different podcasts to like legit.

[00:25:01] I mean,

[00:25:03] I mean,

[00:25:04] that's where people are.

[00:25:05] She was on the shade room.

[00:25:06] I think she was interviewed by the shade room at one point.

[00:25:08] I'm saying she doing everything.

[00:25:09] She could come talk to us too.

[00:25:11] Um,

[00:25:12] maybe we'll get her after she becomes the president.

[00:25:14] How about that?

[00:25:15] Right.

[00:25:16] Um,

[00:25:16] I watched her opening monologue,

[00:25:19] Maya Rudolph's opening monologue where Kamala does come out and they kind of do a mirror

[00:25:22] situation.

[00:25:23] Right.

[00:25:23] Because obviously Maya Rudolph is out as like,

[00:25:27] she was already a legendary comedian.

[00:25:30] Um,

[00:25:30] but you know,

[00:25:31] like this is like her star making role,

[00:25:33] you know,

[00:25:33] like Kamala is like the role she was born to play.

[00:25:37] you know,

[00:25:37] I always eat during election years,

[00:25:40] like Sarah Palin.

[00:25:42] Right.

[00:25:43] Um,

[00:25:43] it really,

[00:25:44] yeah.

[00:25:45] Um,

[00:25:45] what's her name?

[00:25:46] Uh,

[00:25:47] Kate,

[00:25:48] Kate McKenna and her Hillary.

[00:25:50] Yes.

[00:25:51] It's just always so good.

[00:25:53] Yeah.

[00:25:53] And also I think her Elizabeth Warren,

[00:25:54] I think she did both anyway.

[00:25:57] Yeah.

[00:25:57] Yeah.

[00:25:58] I think she did both,

[00:25:58] but,

[00:25:59] yeah,

[00:26:00] it was good,

[00:26:00] but there are people have been flagging up on the internet that if you're paying attention,

[00:26:04] it kind of looks like Maya Rudolph starts to tear up a little bit.

[00:26:07] You know,

[00:26:07] I think it started though,

[00:26:08] the gravity of the situation is starting to set in.

[00:26:10] This skit could be the last thing that you,

[00:26:12] you know,

[00:26:13] you said to the vice president before she becomes the first African American woman to be the president of the United States,

[00:26:19] the first woman to be the president of the United States.

[00:26:21] We're looking at it.

[00:26:23] Unprecedented times,

[00:26:24] potentially here.

[00:26:25] And so,

[00:26:25] if you haven't checked it out,

[00:26:27] please check out Maya Rudolph and Kamala on SNL.

[00:26:31] Cause it was great.

[00:26:33] Did you see Mariah Carey and Kerry Washington?

[00:26:37] No.

[00:26:37] What did they do?

[00:26:38] Because Mariah.

[00:26:40] Hilarious.

[00:26:41] Mariah was about to,

[00:26:42] she,

[00:26:43] she was like,

[00:26:43] it's,

[00:26:44] you know,

[00:26:44] she was about to do it.

[00:26:45] It's time.

[00:26:46] And she was just about to do it.

[00:26:48] And Kerry Washington said,

[00:26:49] Hey,

[00:26:50] sis,

[00:26:50] hold up.

[00:26:51] You know,

[00:26:52] it's about to be Christmas,

[00:26:52] but we have an election.

[00:26:54] And,

[00:26:54] uh,

[00:26:55] can we get to the election first?

[00:26:56] And then we do Christmas.

[00:26:58] And Mariah was like,

[00:26:59] Oh yeah.

[00:27:00] Everybody go out and vote.

[00:27:01] Right.

[00:27:03] I was like,

[00:27:04] somebody needs to say.

[00:27:05] Hitting these trails,

[00:27:07] yo.

[00:27:08] Yeah.

[00:27:08] Yeah.

[00:27:09] I've been watching her and Fitzgerald Grant third,

[00:27:11] uh,

[00:27:12] playing our faces.

[00:27:13] Stop playing.

[00:27:14] It's the way they dangle it in front of us.

[00:27:16] You know,

[00:27:16] I was like,

[00:27:17] bro,

[00:27:17] we know what y'all doing.

[00:27:18] Y'all ain't slick.

[00:27:19] And y'all think y'all,

[00:27:20] y'all think y'all cute.

[00:27:21] Yeah.

[00:27:21] Y'all think y'all cute.

[00:27:22] It ain't cute.

[00:27:23] It ain't cute.

[00:27:24] We see what y'all doing.

[00:27:25] Um,

[00:27:25] I'm glad somebody spoke up and shut Mariah Carey down.

[00:27:28] Cause Halloween went,

[00:27:30] Halloween went even over yet.

[00:27:32] It was midnight.

[00:27:33] The stroke of midnight on the East coast.

[00:27:35] When they dropped that video.

[00:27:36] They thawed her out.

[00:27:37] It's not time.

[00:27:39] Can you thaw her out after Thanksgiving?

[00:27:41] Like,

[00:27:41] dang,

[00:27:42] you have to thaw,

[00:27:42] they thaw her out in damn near September now.

[00:27:45] geez.

[00:27:45] They do.

[00:27:46] Yeah.

[00:27:46] It's too early.

[00:27:47] She'd be like,

[00:27:48] it's coming.

[00:27:48] Like Mariah,

[00:27:50] we got this.

[00:27:53] Because,

[00:27:54] uh,

[00:27:54] every year,

[00:27:55] all I want for Christmas is you is skyrocket into the chart,

[00:27:57] up the charts and,

[00:27:58] um,

[00:27:59] keep them checks going.

[00:28:00] And,

[00:28:00] you know,

[00:28:00] that's a songwriter.

[00:28:01] Think of the last classic Christmas song that you've ever heard.

[00:28:05] And why was it this song?

[00:28:06] Like the most recent Christmas song.

[00:28:08] Yeah.

[00:28:09] You know what I'm saying?

[00:28:09] That's just like a classic,

[00:28:10] like white Christmas.

[00:28:12] Man,

[00:28:12] you know,

[00:28:13] I saw mommy kiss instead of gone.

[00:28:14] This is after all of that.

[00:28:15] And it's still cooking.

[00:28:17] Yeah.

[00:28:17] Love that for her.

[00:28:19] Love that for us too.

[00:28:20] Um,

[00:28:20] yeah,

[00:28:20] I'm sure we'll have plenty of Christmas related content here on recap kickback as well.

[00:28:24] Yeah.

[00:28:24] Um,

[00:28:25] yeah,

[00:28:25] that's going to be fun.

[00:28:27] Um,

[00:28:28] what else do we have going on?

[00:28:30] Uh,

[00:28:30] I want to talk about Marble because last week I,

[00:28:33] I made a point of being like,

[00:28:35] Hey,

[00:28:36] y'all play too much.

[00:28:37] Uh,

[00:28:38] because,

[00:28:39] because y'all keep telling us that blade is coming.

[00:28:43] And quite frankly,

[00:28:44] I'm not dumb.

[00:28:45] It ain't coming.

[00:28:46] Y'all playing in our face.

[00:28:47] It's starting to make me mad.

[00:28:49] Honestly,

[00:28:49] I'm getting upset.

[00:28:51] Uh,

[00:28:51] the blade movie has been shelved for,

[00:28:54] for however long,

[00:28:55] but we have been getting teaser trailers for upcoming films in the Marvel cinematic universe,

[00:29:01] including Ironheart and wonder man.

[00:29:04] Yes.

[00:29:05] Wonder man.

[00:29:06] Yes.

[00:29:07] And so,

[00:29:08] yes.

[00:29:09] Yaya and Dominique Thorne here are going to be playing our,

[00:29:13] uh,

[00:29:13] titular iron hearts and wonder man.

[00:29:16] And,

[00:29:16] um,

[00:29:17] you know,

[00:29:17] we've seen Riri,

[00:29:18] Riri Williams in,

[00:29:20] uh,

[00:29:21] the past Wakanda movie.

[00:29:22] Uh,

[00:29:23] Wakanda forever.

[00:29:24] Yes.

[00:29:25] And,

[00:29:25] uh,

[00:29:25] she was a big part of that,

[00:29:27] uh,

[00:29:27] a breakout star.

[00:29:28] If you're not familiar with her,

[00:29:29] I won't spoil the movie or her role,

[00:29:31] but she's like a little black girl with the,

[00:29:34] with the intelligence and like the skill of Tony Stark when it comes to building these things.

[00:29:38] Right.

[00:29:38] Like she's,

[00:29:39] I think she's like the second or third person,

[00:29:41] the smartest person in the Marvel universe,

[00:29:43] statistically or something like that.

[00:29:44] So we got some black girl magic coming your way.

[00:29:47] And then Yaya,

[00:29:48] um,

[00:29:49] playing wonder man.

[00:29:50] It's also a choice because we know how folks get when you start switching up the,

[00:29:54] uh,

[00:29:54] the playing with the race of these characters.

[00:29:57] And wonder man is not historically a black character,

[00:29:59] but I don't care because one,

[00:30:02] don't nobody talk about wonder man anyway.

[00:30:04] So you know who that was.

[00:30:05] Right.

[00:30:06] So put them on the map.

[00:30:07] Yeah.

[00:30:07] Yeah.

[00:30:08] Put them on the map.

[00:30:09] As far as I'm concerned,

[00:30:10] James showed me the,

[00:30:11] these trailers and he was like,

[00:30:13] it's wonder man.

[00:30:14] I was like,

[00:30:14] who the fuck is wonder man?

[00:30:19] It don't matter.

[00:30:20] He tried to explain it.

[00:30:21] And I still don't.

[00:30:23] Yeah.

[00:30:24] Look,

[00:30:24] the trailers are out or at least,

[00:30:26] uh,

[00:30:26] the teaser is out for at least one of these.

[00:30:28] Uh,

[00:30:28] I think for both of them,

[00:30:29] the teaser trailer is about for both of them.

[00:30:31] So check them out.

[00:30:32] We do got some good black,

[00:30:34] uh,

[00:30:34] black movies or at least black characters or soon,

[00:30:38] soon to be black characters in the case of wonder man,

[00:30:40] uh,

[00:30:41] coming soon to the Marvel cinematic universe.

[00:30:43] I'm very excited about that because I'm,

[00:30:44] I will not let it go that they are playing about play.

[00:30:47] It just doesn't make any sense for you to do this.

[00:30:50] Yeah.

[00:30:51] Um,

[00:30:52] Mari,

[00:30:52] I want to highlight something that it's special to us here on the recap

[00:30:56] kickback,

[00:30:57] uh,

[00:30:58] family here.

[00:30:59] Remember the West Rose kickback Mari?

[00:31:02] Yeah,

[00:31:02] they do.

[00:31:03] Yes.

[00:31:04] And so I was looking into this award show.

[00:31:07] I've never heard about it.

[00:31:08] I think it's called the,

[00:31:09] um,

[00:31:10] the,

[00:31:11] is it the power line,

[00:31:13] uh,

[00:31:13] powerless,

[00:31:14] powerless celebration of black excellence.

[00:31:16] Uh,

[00:31:17] Steve's a sign here as our,

[00:31:19] uh,

[00:31:20] Corliss Valerion has won.

[00:31:22] He won the entertainer award at the 2024 powerless celebration.

[00:31:26] So we have to give him a shout out here because,

[00:31:28] uh,

[00:31:28] everybody going to show love to Corliss.

[00:31:29] It's definitely us.

[00:31:30] Oh yes.

[00:31:31] And he did a great job in,

[00:31:33] uh,

[00:31:33] season two of house of the dragon.

[00:31:35] So I love that.

[00:31:37] I love that for us.

[00:31:38] The 2024 powerless celebration of black excellence.

[00:31:41] Okay.

[00:31:42] We might got to look into that award.

[00:31:44] Well,

[00:31:44] you know,

[00:31:45] we love to give the flowers.

[00:31:46] Yeah.

[00:31:47] But it's one of,

[00:31:47] it's one of those UK awards.

[00:31:50] No disrespect to them.

[00:31:51] You know,

[00:31:52] like,

[00:31:52] listen,

[00:31:52] if you're from the UK,

[00:31:53] you listen to this,

[00:31:53] we don't have no issue with the awards in and of itself.

[00:31:56] It's just,

[00:31:56] they're like,

[00:31:57] we've been talking about how the UK actors be coming over here and doing the thing.

[00:32:01] Okay.

[00:32:01] They be doing the damn thing.

[00:32:03] Okay.

[00:32:03] They put on that American accent and they start,

[00:32:05] they start racking up these awards.

[00:32:08] Um,

[00:32:08] so I didn't know y'all even had y'all own awards over there because the way y'all be coming

[00:32:12] and getting ours,

[00:32:12] you know what I'm saying?

[00:32:13] you know what I'm saying?

[00:32:16] I think we got to check it out.

[00:32:18] I do.

[00:32:18] I want to see who else has been getting honored.

[00:32:20] Honestly,

[00:32:21] we probably are going to come across some,

[00:32:22] uh,

[00:32:23] like lesser known talent that we don't know here because it's across the pond.

[00:32:26] Uh,

[00:32:27] but then I'm sure we'll see some of the big faces,

[00:32:28] but I don't think there's any world where Steve's not will get honored like that here.

[00:32:32] You know,

[00:32:32] like who was thinking about Corliss in the,

[00:32:34] in the,

[00:32:35] all the conversations of house of the dragon,

[00:32:37] we were showing love to Corliss,

[00:32:38] but you know,

[00:32:39] I like that they set aside and said,

[00:32:41] nah,

[00:32:42] Corliss did the damn thing here with his blonde hair and everything.

[00:32:45] Yeah.

[00:32:45] Yeah.

[00:32:45] I love,

[00:32:46] I love that.

[00:32:47] I love that for him.

[00:32:48] And I can't wait till that comes back.

[00:32:50] He's going to have a really pivotal role in the later season.

[00:32:55] So hopefully,

[00:32:56] he gets more love.

[00:32:58] Yeah.

[00:32:58] And if you are new here,

[00:32:59] you might not know this,

[00:33:00] but we did cover house of the dragon,

[00:33:02] uh,

[00:33:02] season two here on recap,

[00:33:04] kickback.

[00:33:04] Mari is a house of dragon expert.

[00:33:06] Check that out.

[00:33:07] Uh,

[00:33:08] I will put the link in the show notes to the playlist,

[00:33:10] but then of course you can always just search our YouTube panel.

[00:33:13] We have the videos up.

[00:33:14] We had a guest on,

[00:33:15] we do a whole dragon breakdown.

[00:33:16] Check out all our house of the dragon content.

[00:33:18] If you are,

[00:33:19] if you're late to the party,

[00:33:20] or if you're just watching house of dragon for the first time,

[00:33:22] if you're on season two,

[00:33:24] we're definitely the place to go.

[00:33:25] Ain't that right,

[00:33:26] yes.

[00:33:27] Yeah.

[00:33:29] Yeah.

[00:33:31] Yeah.

[00:33:31] Mari is a book expert too,

[00:33:32] when it comes to that kind of stuff.

[00:33:33] So check it out and then,

[00:33:35] uh,

[00:33:35] tune in and then let us know what you think about our content.

[00:33:37] If you haven't already heard it,

[00:33:38] but I mean,

[00:33:39] I'm sure y'all have heard it,

[00:33:40] but if you're new here,

[00:33:40] check it out.

[00:33:41] Uh,

[00:33:42] also coming soon,

[00:33:43] we have Eddie Murphy,

[00:33:45] but you know,

[00:33:46] another staple here on the kickback,

[00:33:47] he will be playing George Clinton in a biopic,

[00:33:50] uh,

[00:33:51] from the dream girls director,

[00:33:52] Bill Condon,

[00:33:53] according to this article in variety by,

[00:34:09] uh,

[00:34:09] uh,

[00:34:10] that can't be Eddie Murphy and George Clinton makeup.

[00:34:12] Right.

[00:34:12] So there's gotta be George Clinton without the beard.

[00:34:15] Um,

[00:34:15] I have never seen George Clinton without the beard.

[00:34:18] The,

[00:34:19] that's like young George Clinton,

[00:34:20] you know,

[00:34:20] like,

[00:34:20] yeah,

[00:34:21] he's like,

[00:34:21] George Clinton.

[00:34:23] That's like a younger version of the team.

[00:34:24] Okay.

[00:34:25] That makes sense.

[00:34:26] Yeah.

[00:34:26] Yeah.

[00:34:27] Um,

[00:34:28] yeah,

[00:34:28] we're getting funkadelic soon.

[00:34:29] Uh,

[00:34:30] I love a good biopic.

[00:34:31] Eddie Murphy,

[00:34:32] Eddie Murphy.

[00:34:33] Uh,

[00:34:34] I talked to Tyrone,

[00:34:35] uh,

[00:34:35] podcast,

[00:34:36] a frequent contributor here on recap kickback.

[00:34:38] And he was telling me,

[00:34:39] Eddie Murphy does his best work when he's playing real people,

[00:34:41] you know?

[00:34:42] Uh,

[00:34:42] and I think that is probably like,

[00:34:44] um,

[00:34:45] it's probably pretty accurate.

[00:34:47] Like,

[00:34:47] I think Eddie Murphy,

[00:34:48] like,

[00:34:48] you know,

[00:34:49] there's a comedic actor,

[00:34:49] but he can do serious things.

[00:34:51] He is.

[00:34:51] And he can do biopics.

[00:34:53] We've seen it in the past.

[00:34:53] We see even in dream girls,

[00:34:55] it's not directly a biopic,

[00:34:56] but it's very much so much like a,

[00:34:57] like a dramatized version of that,

[00:34:59] you know?

[00:34:59] Uh,

[00:35:00] so I liked it.

[00:35:01] I liked Eddie Murphy in the past.

[00:35:03] I'm sure he'll bring whatever star power he has to this role.

[00:35:06] Yeah,

[00:35:06] exactly.

[00:35:07] Like I don't,

[00:35:09] I honestly don't know much about George Clinton's life.

[00:35:12] So,

[00:35:13] um,

[00:35:13] this will be entertaining.

[00:35:14] Like I'll definitely go and see it.

[00:35:17] Uh,

[00:35:18] Bill Condon,

[00:35:18] the dream girls director,

[00:35:19] dream girls is one of my favorite movies.

[00:35:22] So yeah,

[00:35:23] I'll definitely go and watch it.

[00:35:25] Watch this.

[00:35:26] Yes.

[00:35:27] Good,

[00:35:27] good,

[00:35:27] good.

[00:35:27] Cause we got us again.

[00:35:28] We got support here.

[00:35:29] We,

[00:35:29] as we tend to do here on recap,

[00:35:31] kickback,

[00:35:31] we're going to show,

[00:35:31] we're going to show love every chance we get.

[00:35:33] Um,

[00:35:34] but now I want to talk to something that's near and dear to my heart.

[00:35:37] You know,

[00:35:38] we get on here and talk about people's legal issues all the time.

[00:35:41] Yeah.

[00:35:42] On the kickback.

[00:35:43] Mari knows where I'm going with this because it would not be me if we did not talk about it.

[00:35:47] Um,

[00:35:48] but

[00:35:49] recently,

[00:35:50] Mari and I,

[00:35:51] and that's what,

[00:35:51] that's the cool thing y'all about having a,

[00:35:53] a true crime aficionado,

[00:35:55] uh,

[00:35:56] as a co-host,

[00:35:56] because,

[00:35:57] um,

[00:35:58] I know I can talk about this with Mari.

[00:36:00] If you don't nobody else care,

[00:36:01] I definitely know that Mari is equally perturbed and confused as to what the hell is going on here.

[00:36:06] But make no mistake.

[00:36:07] We have something to celebrate with a big old question mark.

[00:36:11] Thugger is free.

[00:36:12] They said free Thugger until it's backwards.

[00:36:14] And Mari,

[00:36:15] it's backwards.

[00:36:16] Thugger free.

[00:36:16] It is.

[00:36:17] He's out.

[00:36:18] I mean,

[00:36:19] honestly,

[00:36:20] we like kind of talked about this case.

[00:36:22] This case has been going on for what feels like forever.

[00:36:25] Yeah.

[00:36:26] Every time I hear something about this case,

[00:36:28] it's something crazy.

[00:36:29] Shenanigans.

[00:36:30] Something stupid that the prosecution's doing or something.

[00:36:34] Like,

[00:36:34] I,

[00:36:34] I initially,

[00:36:36] when it first started,

[00:36:37] um,

[00:36:38] last year,

[00:36:39] I believe it was,

[00:36:40] in the last year,

[00:36:41] I was watching,

[00:36:43] I was like watching,

[00:36:44] like,

[00:36:44] the courtroom video.

[00:36:45] I was following,

[00:36:46] uh,

[00:36:46] I think Jewel Wicker,

[00:36:48] I believe her name is,

[00:36:49] is a great black,

[00:36:50] um,

[00:36:51] uh,

[00:36:52] journalist,

[00:36:52] an actual journalist who,

[00:36:53] who was a court journalist who was,

[00:36:54] um,

[00:36:55] who was in court every day following what was going on.

[00:36:59] And she was like breaking down everything that was happening.

[00:37:02] She was our very own Megan,

[00:37:03] the reporter,

[00:37:04] um,

[00:37:05] on site.

[00:37:06] Uh,

[00:37:07] and she's,

[00:37:07] she's a black woman as well.

[00:37:09] Also Megan,

[00:37:10] the reporter,

[00:37:11] the Bob,

[00:37:12] uh,

[00:37:13] she was also,

[00:37:13] uh,

[00:37:14] covering that as well.

[00:37:15] So I was really following the YSL case.

[00:37:18] Like when it first started,

[00:37:20] then started hitting the roof.

[00:37:22] And I was like,

[00:37:23] what is happening?

[00:37:24] They almost had to like change out jurors because jurors faces were actually

[00:37:29] accidentally shown on the,

[00:37:30] the live feed coverage of it.

[00:37:33] And then those jurors started,

[00:37:35] people started doxing those jurors and send them death threats and stuff

[00:37:38] like that.

[00:37:39] Like there was,

[00:37:40] uh,

[00:37:41] there was somebody who was testifying,

[00:37:42] who says something he wasn't supposed to say.

[00:37:44] And they were trying to like,

[00:37:45] they're trying to get it,

[00:37:47] the case thrown out so many different times.

[00:37:49] They had to break up the different co-defendants so many different times.

[00:37:54] Like it was,

[00:37:55] it felt like a three ring circus,

[00:37:58] this court case.

[00:37:59] So honestly,

[00:38:00] when I had like,

[00:38:02] I forgot that it had even was going,

[00:38:04] had gone to the jury,

[00:38:05] um,

[00:38:07] for sentencing and all that,

[00:38:08] you know,

[00:38:08] for,

[00:38:08] for the verdict and stuff.

[00:38:09] So when,

[00:38:11] when the verdict came,

[00:38:12] so he did get,

[00:38:13] he,

[00:38:13] he,

[00:38:14] no,

[00:38:14] he pled guilty.

[00:38:15] Yeah.

[00:38:15] It was like a plea deal.

[00:38:17] He pled guilty.

[00:38:17] Yeah.

[00:38:18] Yeah.

[00:38:18] Which is crazy after like,

[00:38:23] wait,

[00:38:24] wait,

[00:38:24] get in a Rico charge and then taking a plea deal and not having to do

[00:38:28] no time in jail.

[00:38:29] It's crazy.

[00:38:30] After almost a year,

[00:38:31] but after almost a year of already being in court.

[00:38:35] Two years.

[00:38:35] Almost two years.

[00:38:36] Two years.

[00:38:37] Yes.

[00:38:37] Two years.

[00:38:37] Yeah.

[00:38:37] You're,

[00:38:38] you're right.

[00:38:38] Two years.

[00:38:39] Yeah.

[00:38:39] Cause.

[00:38:40] Okay.

[00:38:41] He was in that last year.

[00:38:42] 2022.

[00:38:43] Yeah.

[00:38:43] Last year.

[00:38:44] I promise you feels like a blip for me.

[00:38:48] yeah.

[00:38:48] It was for him.

[00:38:49] Yeah,

[00:38:50] exactly.

[00:38:51] Uh,

[00:38:51] so like.

[00:38:53] That's so much money wasted,

[00:38:54] but anyways,

[00:38:55] that's not,

[00:38:55] I'm not the city of Atlanta.

[00:38:57] Um,

[00:38:58] so yeah.

[00:38:59] So he,

[00:38:59] so he,

[00:39:00] so he,

[00:39:00] he pled guilty.

[00:39:01] It says here to participating in a criminal street gang activity.

[00:39:05] So what he got,

[00:39:07] let's talk about this.

[00:39:07] He got 40 years.

[00:39:10] He got,

[00:39:10] he got,

[00:39:10] he got sentenced to 40 years,

[00:39:12] but,

[00:39:13] but like commuted to five,

[00:39:16] right?

[00:39:17] Yes.

[00:39:18] But five was the time served.

[00:39:20] So that,

[00:39:21] that happens a lot.

[00:39:22] So you,

[00:39:23] you get the,

[00:39:23] you get the 40,

[00:39:24] they say,

[00:39:25] okay,

[00:39:25] out of the 40,

[00:39:26] we just make,

[00:39:27] we just think you should have to absolutely serve five in jail.

[00:39:30] But then he only did two.

[00:39:34] Since he had been in jail for two and a half years that,

[00:39:37] you know,

[00:39:38] population overcrowding prison overcrowding.

[00:39:40] If you,

[00:39:41] if you're in good standing after doing at least 50% in most States,

[00:39:45] if you,

[00:39:45] if you're in good standing after doing at least 50% of your,

[00:39:49] um,

[00:39:50] of your sentence,

[00:39:50] they'll let you out.

[00:39:51] So that's what I'm assuming happened.

[00:39:53] It also got commuted for,

[00:39:55] for time,

[00:39:56] uh,

[00:39:56] time served good behavior.

[00:39:58] So.

[00:39:58] So for 40 years to five years to,

[00:40:02] he did two and a half.

[00:40:04] And he did get out.

[00:40:05] Uh,

[00:40:09] and so I was like,

[00:40:11] okay,

[00:40:12] cool.

[00:40:13] But then he has,

[00:40:15] he has to be on probation for 15 years.

[00:40:19] Okay.

[00:40:20] Years,

[00:40:21] 15 years probation.

[00:40:23] And when we'll talk about probation in a second,

[00:40:25] but let's talk about if he violates that 15 years,

[00:40:28] probation,

[00:40:29] then he has 20 years backloaded.

[00:40:32] So if at any point in that 15 years of probation,

[00:40:36] he violates probation.

[00:40:38] He has to go to jail for 20 years.

[00:40:42] Mm hmm.

[00:40:43] Yeah.

[00:40:44] And this probation,

[00:40:46] no,

[00:40:46] this probation,

[00:40:47] we cannot gloss over.

[00:40:49] Nope.

[00:40:49] When they say probation in a normal sense,

[00:40:51] you probably think meeting with a probation officer or something,

[00:40:54] doing drug tests regularly,

[00:40:57] doing some community service.

[00:40:59] He got to do all that.

[00:41:00] All that.

[00:41:00] And then some,

[00:41:01] they said,

[00:41:02] you better not show your ass up in Metro Atlanta.

[00:41:05] He from there.

[00:41:06] They said,

[00:41:07] you cannot come home.

[00:41:08] You can never come back 15 years.

[00:41:09] You can never come.

[00:41:10] He said,

[00:41:11] they said after what,

[00:41:12] after 10,

[00:41:12] we might let you come back for funerals.

[00:41:16] Was that what he said?

[00:41:17] I thought they did say he could come back for like family,

[00:41:20] like weddings.

[00:41:21] I think it was after a while.

[00:41:23] It wasn't immediately.

[00:41:24] Like it was like,

[00:41:24] yeah,

[00:41:25] I think it's like,

[00:41:27] he got,

[00:41:27] you got to get permission.

[00:41:28] And even then like weddings and funerals after a bit,

[00:41:32] like it's not like tomorrow,

[00:41:33] if a homeboy getting married,

[00:41:34] he ain't going to be there.

[00:41:35] Trust me.

[00:41:38] This is crazy.

[00:41:39] This is crazy.

[00:41:40] Not only can you not step foot into your hometown,

[00:41:42] but you cannot make the music that you used to make.

[00:41:46] You know,

[00:41:46] young thugs music was late laced with part of the reason why he's in the

[00:41:49] trouble in the first place is his music was riddled with YSL

[00:41:54] conversations.

[00:41:55] Right.

[00:41:55] Yeah.

[00:41:55] He can't promote gang activity through his music.

[00:41:58] Right.

[00:41:58] Meaning he can't talk about his own brand,

[00:42:00] which is young slime life.

[00:42:02] He can't say slime,

[00:42:03] slat,

[00:42:04] slime life.

[00:42:05] You know,

[00:42:06] like all the time.

[00:42:07] He can't do none of that stuff.

[00:42:09] He can't,

[00:42:10] he can't really make music like he used to make because he can't

[00:42:13] talk about none of that stuff either.

[00:42:15] Young thug without drugs,

[00:42:16] alcohol and gang activity.

[00:42:18] What he might need to change his name from young thugs.

[00:42:21] I go up by Jeff.

[00:42:23] Yeah.

[00:42:24] Honestly though,

[00:42:25] for me,

[00:42:26] like,

[00:42:27] I don't think that's hard.

[00:42:29] I think he spent two and a half years in jail.

[00:42:31] If I'm him and I'm his publicist,

[00:42:33] I'm telling him to rap about what he saw in jail.

[00:42:36] I watched 60 days in,

[00:42:38] you know,

[00:42:39] there has to be interesting stuff going on.

[00:42:42] I saw 60 days in Fulton County.

[00:42:44] That was some of the best TV ever put together ever in life.

[00:42:48] So if I was him,

[00:42:50] I would just rap about like being in jail.

[00:42:53] Like,

[00:42:53] cause you can't,

[00:42:55] you know,

[00:42:56] just your observations about,

[00:42:58] about,

[00:42:59] about,

[00:42:59] yeah,

[00:42:59] I think that,

[00:43:00] I think they'd let him do that.

[00:43:02] Um,

[00:43:02] yeah,

[00:43:03] he'll be,

[00:43:03] he'll have to be a little bit more mindful with his pen.

[00:43:06] Um,

[00:43:08] yeah,

[00:43:09] he,

[00:43:09] he will have to go back to Atlanta four times a year to do,

[00:43:12] um,

[00:43:13] community service and do like,

[00:43:15] anti-gang,

[00:43:16] anti-gang.

[00:43:17] Yeah.

[00:43:18] It's four times a year during each of the,

[00:43:20] yeah,

[00:43:20] each year of his probation.

[00:43:21] So for 15 years,

[00:43:23] he'll be popping up and also doing a hundred hours of community service as well.

[00:43:26] Yeah.

[00:43:27] I saw that too.

[00:43:28] I was like,

[00:43:28] does that count towards that?

[00:43:30] Yeah.

[00:43:31] Damn.

[00:43:32] Um,

[00:43:33] Oh,

[00:43:34] and no contact with anyone involved or from a criminal street gang.

[00:43:38] And this is,

[00:43:40] we've talked about rappers in the past,

[00:43:42] you and I,

[00:43:43] and how a lot of the popular rappers now are,

[00:43:47] uh,

[00:43:48] tangential to some of the,

[00:43:50] you know,

[00:43:51] thug activity,

[00:43:52] gang activity that we see,

[00:43:53] uh,

[00:43:54] which is why so many of them have been dying from senseless violence.

[00:43:57] Right.

[00:43:57] Because they're not,

[00:43:58] they might not be in a gang right now,

[00:44:00] but,

[00:44:00] and a lot of their activities and a lot of their cohort is gang related.

[00:44:05] Um,

[00:44:05] that said,

[00:44:07] this completely severs a lot of ties that thugger would have with a lot of people in the music industry that he normally would have.

[00:44:12] If he wants to be careful,

[00:44:13] right?

[00:44:14] Like,

[00:44:14] cause there are probably people that you could be like,

[00:44:16] oh,

[00:44:16] well,

[00:44:16] they're not really gang related,

[00:44:17] but would you relate,

[00:44:18] like,

[00:44:18] would you really,

[00:44:19] uh,

[00:44:19] like risk that?

[00:44:21] Would you really be like,

[00:44:22] yeah,

[00:44:22] I'll kick it with,

[00:44:23] uh,

[00:44:24] this person.

[00:44:25] I know they're not in a gang no more,

[00:44:26] but they used to be like,

[00:44:27] nah,

[00:44:28] you don't want none of that stuff attached to you.

[00:44:30] So young thug,

[00:44:31] people were talking about,

[00:44:32] he's going to have to start making music like Will Smith,

[00:44:33] you know,

[00:44:34] just like,

[00:44:35] yeah.

[00:44:35] I saw somebody,

[00:44:36] uh,

[00:44:37] compare him to Tyreek from Abbott elementary.

[00:44:39] Yeah.

[00:44:40] Fade.

[00:44:40] Yeah,

[00:44:41] exactly.

[00:44:42] Um,

[00:44:42] honestly,

[00:44:43] yeah.

[00:44:44] So honestly,

[00:44:45] I,

[00:44:45] I don't think so.

[00:44:46] Like to me,

[00:44:47] so he did say,

[00:44:48] but I got to work with gonna.

[00:44:49] So he did get,

[00:44:51] uh,

[00:44:52] he got,

[00:44:53] uh,

[00:44:53] the,

[00:44:53] the,

[00:44:54] um,

[00:44:55] excuse or whatever to be able to,

[00:44:58] yeah,

[00:44:59] yeah,

[00:44:59] yeah.

[00:44:59] Exception there.

[00:45:00] The exception.

[00:45:01] Yeah.

[00:45:02] Yeah.

[00:45:02] Um,

[00:45:04] but like,

[00:45:05] honestly,

[00:45:07] I'm of two minds with this,

[00:45:08] right?

[00:45:08] Because first off people are like,

[00:45:10] Oh,

[00:45:10] well he's lucky.

[00:45:11] He's not spending life in jail,

[00:45:13] which is true.

[00:45:14] He,

[00:45:14] him,

[00:45:15] he is lucky.

[00:45:16] He's not spending life in jail.

[00:45:17] And so you're saying 15 years.

[00:45:19] It's like,

[00:45:20] it's 15 years outside or 40 to 20 to 40 inside.

[00:45:25] You know what I'm saying?

[00:45:27] And the,

[00:45:28] the problem is that normal people get hit with these types of

[00:45:31] probations.

[00:45:32] Like there,

[00:45:33] there's an actual conversation to be said about how in Georgia,

[00:45:36] um,

[00:45:37] people will get 10 years probation,

[00:45:41] 15 years probation for stuff,

[00:45:43] even smaller.

[00:45:44] Like I,

[00:45:45] I had just read an article about this,

[00:45:47] like last year about the unfair practices of probation for like

[00:45:52] normal people.

[00:45:53] Cause like people like me and you,

[00:45:54] normal people,

[00:45:55] like 10 year probation for us.

[00:45:58] When you're,

[00:46:00] you might be,

[00:46:00] you might actually have be convicted for a felony.

[00:46:03] That's really hard to stay on the straight and narrow because you have to

[00:46:07] try and find a job.

[00:46:08] And as somebody who needs money and,

[00:46:12] you know,

[00:46:13] and his has a felony on their case only,

[00:46:16] but certain people might hire you.

[00:46:18] And Oh,

[00:46:18] those people might hire other felons.

[00:46:20] Like,

[00:46:21] so what do you do?

[00:46:21] You know,

[00:46:21] stuff like that.

[00:46:22] Like it's very unfair for quote unquote,

[00:46:26] normal people who,

[00:46:26] who aren't,

[00:46:28] isn't rich from stardom and,

[00:46:30] and rap and stuff to really uphold a 10 or 15 year,

[00:46:34] year probation cycle.

[00:46:36] And that's just how,

[00:46:37] that's just how they get you to stay in the system.

[00:46:40] I gotta see if I can find that article.

[00:46:42] Cause there was a really good article about recidivism and probation and how

[00:46:46] it's like really unfair.

[00:46:48] Um,

[00:46:49] but for him,

[00:46:51] he is of means,

[00:46:52] you know what I'm saying?

[00:46:53] He's,

[00:46:54] he's,

[00:46:55] he has money.

[00:46:55] If I'm him again,

[00:46:57] and I'm his,

[00:46:58] his manager,

[00:47:00] you hire somebody,

[00:47:02] you can give them some new title called the,

[00:47:05] uh,

[00:47:06] probationary,

[00:47:07] um,

[00:47:09] yeah,

[00:47:10] exactly.

[00:47:11] Cause it,

[00:47:12] you hire them and it is literally their job to check everything that you

[00:47:16] do.

[00:47:16] Make sure you're in compliance.

[00:47:17] With your probation before you release anything for you,

[00:47:20] post a picture.

[00:47:22] Yeah.

[00:47:23] And you listen to them and you let them do that because that's the

[00:47:27] difference between again,

[00:47:28] somebody like him with means in like a regular person.

[00:47:31] It,

[00:47:31] it might be hard for a regular person to have to check every day what they

[00:47:35] are doing.

[00:47:36] And because that's another thing,

[00:47:37] um,

[00:47:39] shout out to pastor Solomon on Twitter,

[00:47:41] who said like,

[00:47:42] how hard is it not to commit crimes for 15 years?

[00:47:45] I,

[00:47:46] I like his sentiment,

[00:47:47] but it's not about just committing crimes.

[00:47:49] It's not about,

[00:47:49] it's not,

[00:47:50] it's not about,

[00:47:50] it's not,

[00:47:51] it's about,

[00:47:52] um,

[00:47:52] not violating probation.

[00:47:54] And right.

[00:47:55] When you have strict probation,

[00:47:57] probationary rules,

[00:47:58] like Georgia has,

[00:48:00] you,

[00:48:00] anything could be,

[00:48:02] can be a violating that probation.

[00:48:04] So you really have to be up on the law and what you can and cannot do

[00:48:09] again for 15 years.

[00:48:11] So Jeffrey needs to hire somebody,

[00:48:14] uh,

[00:48:14] like you said,

[00:48:15] a compliance officer,

[00:48:16] probationary compliance officer.

[00:48:18] There you go.

[00:48:19] You can have that.

[00:48:20] Um,

[00:48:21] and,

[00:48:22] and they need to stay up on,

[00:48:23] on his every move,

[00:48:24] either that,

[00:48:25] or he needs to go sit down with Bobby Schmurder wherever.

[00:48:27] Well,

[00:48:27] not with Bobby Schmurder.

[00:48:28] Cause they can't be together.

[00:48:35] The smartest thing young thug did during this trial was tell the judge

[00:48:38] immediately out the gate that thug stands for truly humble under God.

[00:48:42] Cause that's the only reason he ain't gonna change his name.

[00:48:45] Cause otherwise his name would be in violation of probation.

[00:48:48] Probably you're a hundred percent.

[00:48:50] It's not about him not breaking the law.

[00:48:51] It's about him not making a mistake that is so natural to him at this

[00:48:54] point.

[00:48:55] Right.

[00:48:55] The people that he ain't got with the music that he makes,

[00:48:57] the money,

[00:48:57] the way he makes his money,

[00:48:59] all that other stuff.

[00:49:00] If you remove all the criminal aspects,

[00:49:02] a part of him is still a gangster rapper,

[00:49:04] right?

[00:49:05] Like a part of him is still a rapper who raps about,

[00:49:07] you know,

[00:49:07] violence,

[00:49:08] you know,

[00:49:08] not violence.

[00:49:09] It might be fictionalized violence if you asked him or whatever,

[00:49:12] whatever the,

[00:49:12] the,

[00:49:12] the,

[00:49:13] the,

[00:49:13] uh,

[00:49:13] court has decided.

[00:49:14] Um,

[00:49:15] but at the same time,

[00:49:16] he can't do that anymore.

[00:49:17] And it's not to say that I feel bad for young thug,

[00:49:20] you know,

[00:49:20] obviously he pled guilty.

[00:49:21] So he did whatever they said he did,

[00:49:23] you know,

[00:49:24] he pled guilty.

[00:49:24] So that's him admitting to doing whatever they said he did.

[00:49:27] Um,

[00:49:28] however,

[00:49:28] however,

[00:49:29] um,

[00:49:29] you know,

[00:49:30] it is a tight spot to be in,

[00:49:31] you know,

[00:49:32] like,

[00:49:32] uh,

[00:49:32] he's not in prison for his whole life,

[00:49:34] but he's very much handcuffed in the way.

[00:49:36] He makes his livelihood and the way that he expresses himself.

[00:49:38] So,

[00:49:39] um,

[00:49:39] he has other means,

[00:49:40] like Mari said,

[00:49:41] you can definitely hire somebody to keep you in compliance.

[00:49:43] Well,

[00:49:43] you can try different,

[00:49:44] different avenues.

[00:49:45] I think he's very talented.

[00:49:46] I think young thug is very fashionable.

[00:49:47] That was the one thing that like,

[00:49:49] when he first dropped out,

[00:49:49] people were not ready for young thug.

[00:49:51] He was like,

[00:49:51] Oh yeah,

[00:49:52] he dressed as feminine.

[00:49:53] He was doing all that and driving this shit before Harry Styles was.

[00:49:55] And you know,

[00:49:56] the black community was not embracing it the way they were,

[00:49:59] but he's a thug.

[00:50:00] So people didn't want to,

[00:50:01] like,

[00:50:01] people weren't checking him on it.

[00:50:02] People were like,

[00:50:02] let him do what he going to do.

[00:50:03] You know,

[00:50:03] anybody else get bullied young thug,

[00:50:05] you get bullied back.

[00:50:06] Um,

[00:50:07] so he could do that.

[00:50:08] He probably could do some acting or something like that.

[00:50:09] There's other avenues for sure.

[00:50:11] Hire me young thugs team.

[00:50:13] Yes.

[00:50:13] You know what I would do?

[00:50:16] Mariah,

[00:50:16] the scientist,

[00:50:17] she dropped everything,

[00:50:18] a tour to go be back with you.

[00:50:22] Y'all do a,

[00:50:23] a,

[00:50:24] a,

[00:50:24] a duet,

[00:50:25] a solo,

[00:50:26] a duet,

[00:50:26] uh,

[00:50:27] album together and make that genre,

[00:50:29] shanty music.

[00:50:30] People.

[00:50:30] Right.

[00:50:31] You know what I'm saying?

[00:50:33] Exactly.

[00:50:35] Do that.

[00:50:36] You am right.

[00:50:36] I don't,

[00:50:36] I don't know her.

[00:50:37] And the songs that I've heard of her,

[00:50:39] I hate.

[00:50:40] I thought it was wild that she took the day off to go be with young thug,

[00:50:42] but whatever.

[00:50:43] It wasn't her tour.

[00:50:43] She was,

[00:50:44] she was,

[00:50:44] uh,

[00:50:44] she was,

[00:50:45] uh,

[00:50:45] you know,

[00:50:46] yeah.

[00:50:47] Open and act.

[00:50:48] Yeah.

[00:50:49] Because I,

[00:50:50] as a scientist,

[00:50:51] I try to support other scientists,

[00:50:53] but I don't.

[00:50:54] Do you think she's actually a scientist?

[00:50:55] You know what I'm saying?

[00:50:56] No,

[00:50:57] I don't know.

[00:50:57] What kind of science she,

[00:50:58] you know what I said?

[00:50:59] Uh,

[00:51:00] let me preach it.

[00:51:01] You know,

[00:51:01] what kind of science does she do?

[00:51:05] I don't know.

[00:51:06] I checked her,

[00:51:07] I checked her Wikipedia.

[00:51:09] She had a biology degree.

[00:51:12] Well,

[00:51:13] she,

[00:51:13] uh,

[00:51:15] she graduated from school,

[00:51:16] from high school early and attended college at St.

[00:51:18] John's university in New York city in hopes of becoming a pediatric

[00:51:21] anesthesiologist.

[00:51:22] Ooh.

[00:51:24] Yeah.

[00:51:24] Mariah.

[00:51:25] We have to do music.

[00:51:27] A pediatric anesthesiologist.

[00:51:29] That's you got,

[00:51:30] you would have money.

[00:51:31] Well,

[00:51:31] she,

[00:51:31] I guess we need,

[00:51:32] yes.

[00:51:33] You would have money and we need more pediatric anesthesiologists.

[00:51:38] Girl,

[00:51:39] come on.

[00:51:40] All right.

[00:51:40] Yeah.

[00:51:41] Yeah.

[00:51:42] So there's that.

[00:51:43] Um,

[00:51:43] also Mariah do be in her own kind of,

[00:51:47] uh,

[00:51:47] she got her own legal struggles too.

[00:51:49] So he might not be to hang out with her too much longer either.

[00:51:51] Cause I think she got,

[00:51:52] uh,

[00:51:52] was it a nightclub fight or something like that?

[00:51:55] Yeah.

[00:51:55] Like $5,000 bond.

[00:51:57] She had to really post.

[00:51:59] Yeah.

[00:51:59] And that was this year.

[00:52:00] So just saying Mariah.

[00:52:04] Oh yeah.

[00:52:04] She need to wrap that up.

[00:52:06] So are they going to have to stay 50 feet away from each other?

[00:52:08] Yeah.

[00:52:09] They go make that,

[00:52:09] go make that big Sean and Janae Ako music that,

[00:52:13] you know,

[00:52:13] 20,

[00:52:13] yeah.

[00:52:15] I'm not people.

[00:52:17] Uh,

[00:52:17] I like,

[00:52:17] I like that people.

[00:52:19] Yeah.

[00:52:21] It's not me.

[00:52:22] Um,

[00:52:22] but yeah,

[00:52:23] so big news there.

[00:52:24] Uh,

[00:52:25] I'm a big young thug fan.

[00:52:26] I am.

[00:52:26] I always liked his music and stuff like that.

[00:52:28] Um,

[00:52:29] but that said,

[00:52:30] you know,

[00:52:30] at some point you can't keep living like this.

[00:52:33] You know,

[00:52:33] uh,

[00:52:33] the Rico thing is crazy because most of the time when you get a car,

[00:52:36] like when they,

[00:52:37] when they conduct you on a Rico,

[00:52:39] it's cause they know they got you.

[00:52:40] You know what I'm saying?

[00:52:41] Like that's not something you just throw at anybody.

[00:52:43] But to be honest,

[00:52:45] like,

[00:52:46] I don't know what the prosecution was doing.

[00:52:48] Like,

[00:52:48] cause that's what I would think.

[00:52:49] I was like,

[00:52:49] Oh yeah,

[00:52:50] you would get,

[00:52:51] you got them if you,

[00:52:52] but I'm watching that thing.

[00:52:53] I'm like,

[00:52:54] what are y'all doing?

[00:52:55] Like my,

[00:52:56] their case was not.

[00:52:59] My theory,

[00:53:01] they played lifestyle.

[00:53:03] the song in the courtroom.

[00:53:05] And the judge was like,

[00:53:06] I can't put this man away.

[00:53:07] I can't do it.

[00:53:08] They lost everybody right there.

[00:53:12] That was a good,

[00:53:12] that was a good song.

[00:53:14] I was at,

[00:53:14] I was at home like,

[00:53:16] let them cook,

[00:53:17] let them cook.

[00:53:17] Hold on.

[00:53:20] Um,

[00:53:21] Mari,

[00:53:22] the last thing I want to talk about,

[00:53:23] and I guess there's a little bit of levity to it,

[00:53:25] but like,

[00:53:25] we could come at this,

[00:53:26] like the serious finger wagging that we could do.

[00:53:28] I just,

[00:53:28] I'm not a big fan of this person anyway,

[00:53:30] so I don't mind wagging my finger a little bit.

[00:53:32] DJ Envy did a thing for Halloween.

[00:53:34] Oh God.

[00:53:35] I won't put an image up of the thing he did for Halloween,

[00:53:38] but it's very wild.

[00:53:39] Uh,

[00:53:40] I believe he had,

[00:53:40] both his daughters are dressed up as,

[00:53:42] uh,

[00:53:43] in Halloween costumes.

[00:53:45] Uh,

[00:53:46] one I think was Aaliyah and her,

[00:53:49] like,

[00:53:50] uh,

[00:53:50] her costume.

[00:53:50] I think that's the older daughter,

[00:53:51] but the younger daughter portrayed Lil' Kim in the Crush on You video,

[00:53:56] uh,

[00:53:57] where Lil' Kim is famously,

[00:53:58] cycling through all her different color outfits slash wigs.

[00:54:02] And people were not happy with DJ Envy,

[00:54:04] uh,

[00:54:05] and this little girl portraying,

[00:54:08] uh,

[00:54:09] you know,

[00:54:09] someone who is historically a sexualized human being,

[00:54:13] uh,

[00:54:14] you know,

[00:54:14] by their own doing,

[00:54:15] obviously,

[00:54:15] but also by the industry and also a grown ass woman who,

[00:54:19] uh,

[00:54:19] you know,

[00:54:20] wears clothes that are for grown ass women.

[00:54:22] And so,

[00:54:23] Mari,

[00:54:23] I know you saw this.

[00:54:24] I did.

[00:54:25] And like,

[00:54:25] she was in,

[00:54:27] everyone was like,

[00:54:28] like,

[00:54:28] some people were like,

[00:54:29] y'all gotta chill.

[00:54:29] It's just like a bathing suit.

[00:54:31] but it,

[00:54:31] but that's the,

[00:54:33] she was in like the,

[00:54:35] the strappy,

[00:54:36] like,

[00:54:37] yeah,

[00:54:38] the fur coat on.

[00:54:39] Yeah.

[00:54:40] To me,

[00:54:41] it's not even about the outfit itself.

[00:54:43] It is the person that you're portraying,

[00:54:45] right?

[00:54:45] Like,

[00:54:45] that's like,

[00:54:46] say if she would dress full,

[00:54:47] if she was fully dressed and they were like,

[00:54:49] she's Pamela Anderson.

[00:54:50] I'd still be like,

[00:54:50] is a kid supposed to be dressed like Pamela Anderson?

[00:54:52] You know what I'm saying?

[00:54:52] Like,

[00:54:53] you know what I'm saying?

[00:54:53] Like there would be levels to whatever.

[00:54:55] Like if you said she was Alicia Keys,

[00:54:56] I'd be like,

[00:54:56] all right,

[00:54:57] cool.

[00:54:57] Cause that's not Alicia Keys' brand.

[00:54:59] Lil Kim is,

[00:55:00] I see what you're saying.

[00:55:01] Illna,

[00:55:01] nah,

[00:55:01] nah,

[00:55:02] make a spray can disappear in my mouth.

[00:55:03] It's like,

[00:55:03] hey,

[00:55:04] my kid shouldn't even know who that is.

[00:55:05] You know,

[00:55:06] not,

[00:55:06] not yet.

[00:55:07] You know,

[00:55:07] like let her grow up first and then she can,

[00:55:09] like your kid shouldn't be dressed like Megan Thee Stallion.

[00:55:11] You know what I'm saying?

[00:55:11] Like we love her.

[00:55:12] But at the same time,

[00:55:13] yeah,

[00:55:14] you're like,

[00:55:15] oh yeah,

[00:55:15] my,

[00:55:15] my seven year old is in the big old freak video.

[00:55:17] Like what,

[00:55:18] what are you talking about?

[00:55:19] Right.

[00:55:20] Exactly.

[00:55:21] Like,

[00:55:22] listen to those words.

[00:55:24] It's very that it's like,

[00:55:26] and I'm like,

[00:55:26] I know that little girl did not say,

[00:55:29] Hey mommy,

[00:55:29] daddy,

[00:55:29] I want to be little Kim.

[00:55:31] And if she did,

[00:55:32] that's a parenting issue because why would,

[00:55:34] she want to be little Kim and like,

[00:55:35] why does she know about the crush on you video?

[00:55:38] Exactly.

[00:55:39] Like,

[00:55:39] I don't,

[00:55:39] I don't know.

[00:55:40] I don't know how old she was.

[00:55:41] I think she was like eight or nine,

[00:55:44] but still like,

[00:55:45] I just,

[00:55:46] it was just inappropriate.

[00:55:48] And then to,

[00:55:49] to put the video on social media,

[00:55:51] it's just like,

[00:55:52] I,

[00:55:52] I really need parents to be like,

[00:55:54] Oh,

[00:55:55] um,

[00:55:57] like a little bit.

[00:55:59] I know you want to celebrate like your kids and stuff like that,

[00:56:02] but like,

[00:56:04] just like for me,

[00:56:04] I don't put,

[00:56:05] I barely ever put my,

[00:56:07] my kids on my social media,

[00:56:09] at least Twitter.

[00:56:10] And I put it on,

[00:56:11] I put them on Facebook,

[00:56:13] Instagram,

[00:56:13] whatever.

[00:56:14] But it's like,

[00:56:14] I always am thinking before I post,

[00:56:17] you know what I'm saying?

[00:56:18] Because yes,

[00:56:19] you put it out there with good intent,

[00:56:21] but there are not people with good intent on the internet.

[00:56:24] So like putting up a video of your daughter,

[00:56:28] half naked with fur coat on singing about,

[00:56:35] singing about like,

[00:56:36] she's singing the,

[00:56:37] she's singing little Kim's verse on crush on you.

[00:56:40] Like we're talking about getting weed and having sex.

[00:56:43] Like,

[00:56:44] yeah.

[00:56:45] And then there's thousands of bookmarks on that tweet.

[00:56:48] It was like,

[00:56:48] what do you think those?

[00:56:50] Like,

[00:56:51] it's just,

[00:56:51] he's a hoe.

[00:56:52] He's a freak.

[00:56:53] Got a different girl every day in a week.

[00:56:55] Like what,

[00:56:55] what are we doing here?

[00:56:56] The child.

[00:56:57] It just doesn't make sense.

[00:56:59] Like I,

[00:57:00] and DJ MV,

[00:57:01] he got like two brain cells to rub together anyways.

[00:57:05] It's just like,

[00:57:07] come on y'all.

[00:57:08] Let's do better.

[00:57:09] Like,

[00:57:10] let's do better.

[00:57:11] Let's try discernment folks.

[00:57:13] Discernment.

[00:57:13] There it is.

[00:57:14] That's the word.

[00:57:15] Let's do some discernment,

[00:57:17] some discretion,

[00:57:18] you know,

[00:57:18] just like,

[00:57:19] come on folks.

[00:57:20] We don't have to do this.

[00:57:21] Halloween is a good time.

[00:57:22] We saw a lot of great Halloween costumes.

[00:57:25] A lot of celebrities doing it the big way.

[00:57:28] Love it.

[00:57:28] Sierra always showing out,

[00:57:30] you know what I'm saying?

[00:57:31] So some people just know how to do it.

[00:57:33] Yeah.

[00:57:34] Some people just know how to do Halloween,

[00:57:35] but like,

[00:57:36] you know,

[00:57:37] just be aware that the internet,

[00:57:38] we can see you.

[00:57:39] The internet can see you.

[00:57:40] And everybody's not having their kids best,

[00:57:43] yeah,

[00:57:43] best interest.

[00:57:44] And,

[00:57:44] you know,

[00:57:45] just think about the messages we're giving kids,

[00:57:47] because again,

[00:57:48] it's up to the parents,

[00:57:49] right?

[00:57:49] Like,

[00:57:49] I will never admonish Lil' Kim for being Lil' Kim,

[00:57:52] or Megan Thee Stallion for being Megan Thee Stallion.

[00:57:54] But,

[00:57:54] if your kids are idolizing them,

[00:57:56] because your kids have access to them,

[00:57:58] that's a you issue.

[00:57:59] You know what I'm saying?

[00:57:59] Even Cardi B don't play her music around her daughter.

[00:58:03] Right.

[00:58:04] And she knows.

[00:58:05] But she knows.

[00:58:06] She should not be playing around no damn kids.

[00:58:08] And so,

[00:58:08] yeah.

[00:58:08] It doesn't mean the music is bad.

[00:58:10] It means it's inappropriate for kids.

[00:58:12] It's inappropriate.

[00:58:13] what are we doing here?

[00:58:15] Whatever.

[00:58:16] Shenanigans.

[00:58:17] Shenanigans ensued.

[00:58:18] And,

[00:58:19] yeah.

[00:58:19] That was our week in Black News.

[00:58:21] Mario,

[00:58:21] I feel like we could have gone longer.

[00:58:23] There was much,

[00:58:23] much more.

[00:58:24] Like,

[00:58:24] just going on just little things here and there.

[00:58:27] And I thought,

[00:58:27] like,

[00:58:27] man,

[00:58:28] we gotta talk about this stuff.

[00:58:30] Anything else we miss?

[00:58:31] Anything you want to flag before we get into,

[00:58:33] I mean,

[00:58:34] spooky season is gone,

[00:58:35] but now we're in,

[00:58:35] like,

[00:58:36] the officially in the fall season.

[00:58:38] Uh,

[00:58:39] the Chris Brown documentary,

[00:58:40] uh,

[00:58:41] dropped as well.

[00:58:42] Like,

[00:58:43] Oh,

[00:58:43] it did?

[00:58:44] Yeah,

[00:58:44] it did.

[00:58:45] Uh,

[00:58:45] called like monster,

[00:58:47] some,

[00:58:47] some monster.

[00:58:48] I don't know.

[00:58:48] I haven't watched it yet.

[00:58:49] So I plan to watch it and I'll report back.

[00:58:52] Um,

[00:58:53] but I know that was causing a little bit of commotion on the interwebs as well.

[00:58:58] Um,

[00:58:59] somebody,

[00:59:00] you know,

[00:59:00] people are like,

[00:59:01] wow,

[00:59:01] why are they doing it?

[00:59:02] It's not surviving Chris Brown.

[00:59:04] He's not even that bad.

[00:59:05] Meanwhile,

[00:59:06] somebody else was like,

[00:59:07] they got into Rihanna.

[00:59:08] They did the Rihanna stuff and all that.

[00:59:11] Nine minutes in almost a two hour documentary.

[00:59:13] Out the gate.

[00:59:14] Yeah.

[00:59:14] Let's go ahead and get that,

[00:59:16] the headline out the gate.

[00:59:17] And then we'll,

[00:59:17] we'll,

[00:59:18] we'll,

[00:59:18] we'll,

[00:59:18] we'll catch y'all up on all the stuff you might've missed.

[00:59:20] The ID channel coming from the next.

[00:59:21] Exactly.

[00:59:22] That's exactly like,

[00:59:23] I think it's like Chris Brown,

[00:59:24] a history of violence or something like that.

[00:59:26] If I remember correctly,

[00:59:26] I gotta go back and look at the title,

[00:59:28] but it's like,

[00:59:29] it's what I've been saying on this mic before.

[00:59:32] It's like,

[00:59:34] this is not,

[00:59:36] it wasn't that one.

[00:59:37] It was like,

[00:59:39] it's a,

[00:59:40] it's a concurring thing.

[00:59:40] Like his entourage just got into a fight,

[00:59:43] uh,

[00:59:43] three months ago.

[00:59:44] Like they were trying to figure out if he was like involved in it or not.

[00:59:48] So it's just like,

[00:59:50] yeah.

[00:59:51] So I'll watch that and I'll let you know.

[00:59:53] I'll let y'all know how that goes.

[00:59:55] Yeah.

[00:59:55] Yeah.

[00:59:55] Mari's going to go do some recon on that.

[00:59:57] We're going to bring you,

[00:59:58] uh,

[00:59:59] black,

[00:59:59] uh,

[01:00:00] what is it?

[01:00:00] Beauty in black,

[01:00:01] uh,

[01:00:01] next week,

[01:00:02] our full recap of that series.

[01:00:04] So if you haven't checked it out,

[01:00:06] you,

[01:00:06] you have the week.

[01:00:07] We will be back next week to talk about that.

[01:00:09] Like I said,

[01:00:10] we're going to talk about all the shenanigans.

[01:00:12] So please go watch it y'all.

[01:00:13] And then we're going to talk about it.

[01:00:15] Like my notes is just quotes from the movie.

[01:00:18] You know what I'm saying?

[01:00:19] I don't like you.

[01:00:20] She told that woman,

[01:00:21] she should have punched her in the pussy,

[01:00:22] Mari.

[01:00:23] And I was like,

[01:00:23] can I say that?

[01:00:25] Like,

[01:00:25] she said,

[01:00:26] she said,

[01:00:27] you smell like Jim Crow.

[01:00:29] She said,

[01:00:29] you smell like Jim Crow.

[01:00:31] Yeah.

[01:00:31] And I was like,

[01:00:33] that's right.

[01:00:34] I was like,

[01:00:34] that's wild.

[01:00:35] Right.

[01:00:36] Yeah.

[01:00:36] Wild.

[01:00:37] Yeah.

[01:00:38] And I think that's episode five.

[01:00:39] So in the series,

[01:00:40] so just,

[01:00:42] just go and catch up with us and then catch us here.

[01:00:44] Isaiah will be here to talk about,

[01:00:46] um,

[01:00:46] the,

[01:00:46] um,

[01:00:49] Tyler creator album.

[01:00:50] Also,

[01:00:51] I think starting five on Netflix is something that has been flagged on my,

[01:00:54] and brought to my attention.

[01:00:55] So they're going to do that.

[01:00:57] Potentially.

[01:00:57] Uh,

[01:00:58] we got Abbott elementary coverage coming every other week with me and Gia.

[01:02:55] Bye.

[01:02:55] I can't feel my chest.

[01:02:56] Wait on life.

[01:02:57] I want to hold my breath.

[01:02:58] I'm gonna get in my goddamn self.
