[00:00:19] What's up fam? Welcome back again to Recap Kickback. It's me, your host Chappelle, here to bring you what's happening in Black entertainment news and to recap our movie or television show of the week, How to Die Alone. Yep, that's right, we'll be completing our How to Die Alone review. We talked about episodes one through four last week here on Recap Kickback and we will be talking about episodes five to eight, basically the entire series this week as well as the entertainment news of the week. And with me again,

[00:00:49] as usual, to talk about all the things Blackity Black this week, it's Mari Forth. Mari, welcome back.

[00:00:55] Hello, uh yeah, uh Black entertainment never takes a day off so we won't either. Um I'm very glad to be back to finish off an amazing series that we got a lot of good feedback about. Like I'm glad people are watching this show, so I'm glad we're talking about it and I'm glad people are like responding to us about so like join the conversation.

[00:01:19] reach out to us, you know, it's not a kickback if everybody don't put in it two cents. So I'm glad to be back with you guys again.

[00:01:26] Yeah, and by everybody you mean everybody because we have with us our special guest returning from last week to finish off our How to Die Alone and to give some insight into some of the news of this week.

[00:01:38] We got Matt Scott. Matt Scott, welcome back.

[00:01:40] We're black.

[00:01:42] We're black.

[00:01:43] Uh, happy to be here and uh thank you for having me. Chappelle, Mari, I've seen you a lot.

[00:01:50] Um some might say too much but I think the right amount in the last couple weeks between uh all the different podcasts so happy to be here.

[00:01:58] And still more to come.

[00:01:59] And more to come.

[00:02:00] And more to come.

[00:02:02] We're not done.

[00:02:03] We're not done.

[00:02:04] For the listeners, um, Matt and Mari were both the guests on the Nothing But Netflix podcast with me and Rob Sesternino to talk about Mr. McMahon.

[00:02:11] We did that in two parts and then we did How to Die Alone here in two parts.

[00:02:15] And then this week we're going to be recording our episode of Crime Scene with Mari and her co-host Sarah Carradine.

[00:02:22] Mari, what are we talking about this week?

[00:02:24] Yes.

[00:02:25] Oh, we're talking about Jailbreak, Love on the Run.

[00:02:28] Uh, Netflix.

[00:02:29] Wow.

[00:02:30] We love to see it.

[00:02:32] Yep.

[00:02:32] Whatever that is.

[00:02:34] But look at us.

[00:02:35] The five time, five time, five time, five time, five time, five time, five time podcasters in the last week and a half.

[00:02:44] Again, love to see it.

[00:02:45] Yeah.

[00:02:46] We gotta run this back.

[00:02:47] And, and uh, we got feedback saying more Matt Scott on the kickback please.

[00:02:51] Who said that?

[00:02:52] Who said that?

[00:02:53] It was on Twitter.

[00:02:55] Yeah.

[00:02:56] Oh, I did.

[00:02:56] I didn't need that.

[00:02:57] Yeah.

[00:02:59] You know, you can't teach taste, right Matt?

[00:03:01] Sure.

[00:03:02] Oh, oh, oh, oh.

[00:03:06] I have nothing to say.

[00:03:09] We love having you here on Recap Kickback.

[00:03:11] It took far too long for you to get here, but we're getting our use out of you while we can.

[00:03:15] Wow.

[00:03:15] Just using me up and spitting me out.

[00:03:18] Yeah.

[00:03:19] Look, I don't have no shame in our game here.

[00:03:21] Uh, thank you all for listening.

[00:03:22] Of course.

[00:03:23] Thank you all for subscribing to the podcast.

[00:03:25] If you're watching this on YouTube, hit that like button.

[00:03:27] Uh, let us know that you're supporting us, but then also leave us a comment.

[00:03:31] Let us know how you feel about Recap Kickback.

[00:03:33] We've been seeing a lot of good feedback about the format.

[00:03:36] Y'all like the black entertainment news.

[00:03:37] Y'all like the recaps.

[00:03:39] We're doing that.

[00:03:39] Um, some people have been suggesting Mark suggesting Mario that maybe those are two separate videos that we released or something like that, maybe in the future.

[00:03:46] But right now I kind of like this.

[00:03:48] Um, just the entertainment news in the first half and then maybe do like, uh, the recap in the second half.

[00:03:53] Instead of doing it like that, making it two different videos for the people out there with the, with the ADHD, I think is what was said.

[00:03:58] Um, I think right now we'll leave it like this.

[00:04:01] We could play around with the format a little bit, huh?

[00:04:04] Okay.

[00:04:05] What do you think?

[00:04:06] Um, as long as I don't got to record two different things.

[00:04:13] You want to split it up?

[00:04:14] Sure.

[00:04:16] Each entertainment news segment is going to be its own podcast.

[00:04:20] Yeah.

[00:04:21] And then we'll break down how to download in eight different episodes, but we got one time to record it.

[00:04:25] So, uh, yeah.

[00:04:27] But yeah, we do appreciate the feedback.

[00:04:29] We also got an email, um, from Laura.

[00:04:33] It said, um, make sure you check out Southern rights on Hulu.

[00:04:38] It's a documentary.

[00:04:39] Uh, have you ever heard of these documentaries?

[00:04:41] The two of you?

[00:04:42] No, but she just, that's, that's what the whole email said.

[00:04:46] Chappelle.

[00:04:46] Check out Southern rights to recap.

[00:04:48] Get back.

[00:04:49] She's emailed before, you know, this is a friend of the podcast at this point.

[00:04:52] Okay.

[00:04:52] Shout out to Laura.

[00:04:54] Thank you.

[00:04:54] Yes.

[00:04:54] We haven't checked it out, but I guess we have to.

[00:04:56] So good email from Laura.

[00:04:58] Yeah.

[00:04:58] Southern rights.

[00:04:58] What did it say?

[00:04:59] What it's about?

[00:05:00] I don't know.

[00:05:01] So the, the, the documentary that I found is a 2015 documentary says photographer,

[00:05:06] Gillian, uh, Laub, uh, documents a divisive murder case in a small Georgia town.

[00:05:12] One year after the town merged into its segregated proms.

[00:05:17] Um, so Martin, this is right up your alley with the crime scene element for sure.

[00:05:22] Yeah.

[00:05:23] Yeah.

[00:05:24] Yeah.

[00:05:25] Uh, you look shocked.

[00:05:26] 20, 2015.

[00:05:28] 20, 2015.

[00:05:28] They.

[00:05:28] Yeah.

[00:05:29] He segregated the prom.

[00:05:32] Yeah.

[00:05:32] Someone got killed.

[00:05:33] Yeah.

[00:05:34] Someone got killed.

[00:05:35] I don't know if it tracks.

[00:05:37] Well, I don't know if it's like the documentary is set in 2015 or if it was just created in

[00:05:42] 2015, but it does look fairly like barely recent.

[00:05:47] I wonder, uh, I wonder what's going on in this.

[00:05:50] I wonder what's going on.

[00:05:51] You need to find out.

[00:05:53] I feel like you can look.

[00:05:54] Yeah.

[00:05:54] Yeah.

[00:05:56] Maybe Mario screened it or something like that.

[00:05:58] Just watch it and on her own and tell us if it's like worth it.

[00:06:01] Like, you know, she sees anything good in there to talk about, but that's how

[00:06:04] you know, a murder.

[00:06:06] Yeah.

[00:06:06] Exactly.

[00:06:07] That's what I'm saying.

[00:06:07] It's like, I gotta be, I got, I, even after we watched Hollywood black and I'm

[00:06:12] like, you know, I gotta do my part to support black stuff and stuff like

[00:06:16] that.

[00:06:16] I gotta see maybe depending on if the director of this is black, I'll watch it.

[00:06:22] But if it's like black trauma and like, well, my people didn't make it.

[00:06:28] I might not watch it.

[00:06:28] I'm not going to let me tell you.

[00:06:30] Let me see.

[00:06:31] Well, was it Southern?

[00:06:32] What?

[00:06:33] Southern.

[00:06:34] Right.

[00:06:35] And the black person who died.

[00:06:38] I actually don't.

[00:06:40] Okay, great.

[00:06:41] Okay.

[00:06:41] Southern.

[00:06:41] What?

[00:06:42] So Southern rights.

[00:06:43] So it says other rights visits Montgomery County, Georgia, one year after the town

[00:06:48] emerged its racially segregated prompts and doing a historic election campaign that

[00:06:52] may lead to its first African-American sheriff.

[00:06:55] The claim photographer Jillian Laub, who is the director, um, whose photos first

[00:06:59] brought the area unwanted notoriety documents, the repercussions when a white

[00:07:04] town resident is charged with the murder of a young black man.

[00:07:07] The case divides locals, well-worn racial lines and the ensuing plea bargain and sentencing

[00:07:13] uncovers complex truths and produces, uh, emotional revelations.

[00:07:18] Did you just say a year?

[00:07:20] Was there a year in there?

[00:07:21] I could have, I probably could have said that's what that was about.

[00:07:26] And you were like, no, I don't think it's about that.

[00:07:28] And then you, uh, proceed to tell me exactly what I think it's about.

[00:07:32] Well, what did you think it was about?

[00:07:34] You knew it was about an election year and the sheriff and all that stuff.

[00:07:37] I thought that was interesting.

[00:07:38] I think the black person was murdered unjustly.

[00:07:42] Well, we knew that I was trying to get like some other context, you know what I'm saying?

[00:07:45] Like we can do any documentary.

[00:07:46] We should talk about black people getting murdered unjustly.

[00:07:48] Look, this is a dime a dozen these days.

[00:07:50] That's what I'm saying.

[00:07:51] I don't want to talk about.

[00:07:53] We ain't gonna talk about.

[00:07:54] We don't?

[00:07:54] It don't look like it's black to me.

[00:07:57] I don't, I don't think Jillian.

[00:07:59] Listen, I don't want to say she don't sound black, but I'll put it like this.

[00:08:02] The writer of, uh, uh, Josh Alexander, the writer slash producer of this is not black.

[00:08:08] So I'm just gonna use that to tap out.

[00:08:10] I think this is a sad story.

[00:08:11] Maybe we, maybe I'll check it out on my own and see if there's something there.

[00:08:14] Uh, but you know, it's right up Mark's alley with the crime scene thing.

[00:08:18] So we do appreciate the suggestion.

[00:08:20] Keep them coming.

[00:08:20] Let us know.

[00:08:21] I think, uh, there was another suggestion and, uh, there was also a follow up.

[00:08:25] Check out breaking on the one.

[00:08:28] Um, and hip hop in the white house.

[00:08:30] There's a few, I guess Laura had a few, uh, suggestions for us.

[00:08:33] Breaking on the one.

[00:08:34] Yeah.

[00:08:35] We'll put them on the list.

[00:08:37] Check them out.

[00:08:37] And then, uh, follow up.

[00:08:39] Yeah.

[00:08:39] That sounds like fun.

[00:08:41] I know.

[00:08:42] Nobody gets murdered.

[00:08:43] Like, I'm sorry.

[00:08:45] It's fall.

[00:08:46] So, you know, seasonal, uh, depression is right around the corner and I'm not going

[00:08:50] to be chasing it personally.

[00:08:52] Yeah.

[00:08:53] Uh, wow.

[00:08:55] I'm just learning.

[00:08:56] Shout out to, uh, people who create documentaries.

[00:08:59] Now I'm following down the Jillian Laub, uh, rabbit holes.

[00:09:03] So maybe I'm going to just go.

[00:09:05] Yeah.

[00:09:05] Uh, hip hop in the white house is, uh, it's, it's black made.

[00:09:09] It's directed by Jesse Washington.

[00:09:11] Uh, and, uh, I believe it dropped this year in April and it says hip hop's rise from marginalized

[00:09:16] urban culture to powerful mainstream forces is explored alongside.

[00:09:21] It's in the sections with presidential politics and policies.

[00:09:24] Uh, I feel like this is very topical considering this is, and this is all election time.

[00:09:29] We're here.

[00:09:29] We've made it to that time of the season.

[00:09:31] I think that'd be great to put on the to do list.

[00:09:33] Potentially.

[00:09:34] It sounds like a good time.

[00:09:34] Yeah, that does sound very interesting.

[00:09:37] Cause I know a lot of parallels that they can draw between like politics versus what was

[00:09:44] happening in hip hop.

[00:09:47] Yeah, for sure.

[00:09:48] And we see it all the time.

[00:09:50] Uh, hip hop is just like creeping over into other realms left and right.

[00:09:55] I loved, we love to see it honestly.

[00:09:57] Uh, because we know that that is a, a very, very black genre and we'd like to support these

[00:10:02] things here on recap kickback for sure.

[00:10:05] And so, uh, make sure if you have any other suggestions like that or anything similar,

[00:10:09] anything you just think we would like, let us know, let us know what you were thinking.

[00:10:13] Uh, you know, what's on your mind, what you're watching.

[00:10:15] You can email us at recap, kickback at gmail.com and let us know what you've been keeping your

[00:10:20] eyes on so that we'll have something to talk about here on the show.

[00:10:23] And we appreciate all the feedback that we do get.

[00:10:25] And I don't want to just segue into hip hop going into other areas, but this is right

[00:10:29] up your alley.

[00:10:30] Um, sexy red makes a surprise cameo on WWE raw.

[00:10:35] And I feel like we have the perfect panel here to talk about this.

[00:10:39] Wait, hold on.

[00:10:41] Can I just see she was on WWE raw.

[00:10:46] Who allowed it?

[00:10:47] Who allowed it?

[00:10:48] Why?

[00:10:49] What's the problem?

[00:10:49] So, so she was on raw for a second to announce that she will be that she was going to be on

[00:10:54] NXT, which is a, which is interesting that they didn't just do the performance on raw.

[00:11:02] Oh, they said you can't do this on raw, but you could do it at NXT.

[00:11:07] Which is on CW, which is so weird, but no, yes, that makes sense.

[00:11:11] Cause a sexy red sexy red has already been on NXT.

[00:11:15] She hosted a NXT, um, PLE her and, and Shawn Michaels are like, there's free.

[00:11:22] Yeah.

[00:11:23] There's so much footage of like pictures of them backstage video of them because she,

[00:11:28] um, she sampled his theme music and, and did it like a mixtape song off his music.

[00:11:35] Yeah.

[00:11:35] She really did.

[00:11:37] She did.

[00:11:38] She really did.

[00:11:39] No.

[00:11:39] Michael's theme song.

[00:11:40] Like she.

[00:11:41] Oh, Sean.

[00:11:43] Yeah.

[00:11:43] Yeah.

[00:11:44] That one.

[00:11:45] That.

[00:11:45] Yeah.

[00:11:45] We all know my, my feelings about miss red, but I will say, uh, that, that was kind of

[00:11:51] a bop.

[00:11:52] Uh, so it's annoying.

[00:11:54] You know what?

[00:11:55] I, I appreciate her because her music isn't good and she's not that talented, but I just

[00:12:04] think like to be successful, like American dream, look at the American dream.

[00:12:08] Um, well, yeah.

[00:12:10] Yeah.

[00:12:10] Yeah.

[00:12:11] That's the American dream.

[00:12:12] Sexy red.

[00:12:13] And we'll just keep it at that.

[00:12:15] Uh huh.

[00:12:16] The company has collaborated with other rappers before in the past.

[00:12:20] Uh, don't do this.

[00:12:21] Uh, Mario, uh, already spoken on Megan.

[00:12:23] The stallions, uh, track never play.

[00:12:25] That was fun.

[00:12:26] From BTS being featured on SmackDown last month.

[00:12:30] And then of course, um, Cardi B.

[00:12:32] No, it's the theme for SmackDown.

[00:12:34] Yes.

[00:12:34] The theme for, uh, SmackDown.

[00:12:36] Which a lot of people were not happy with.

[00:12:38] A lot of people were happy with that.

[00:12:39] They didn't like that.

[00:12:40] People who hate rapping women.

[00:12:42] Yeah.

[00:12:42] Get over it.

[00:12:43] It's done.

[00:12:44] And then, uh, the company has also collaborated with Cardi B who's helped them announce SummerSlam

[00:12:48] 2025.

[00:12:49] Yeah.

[00:12:50] She might be there.

[00:12:52] Yeah.

[00:12:52] I mean, she was in the ad, so she better be.

[00:12:55] But she was, I feel like she was going to collab with them.

[00:12:58] And then she got pregnant like a couple years ago.

[00:13:02] Yeah.

[00:13:03] That's happening.

[00:13:04] It happens.

[00:13:05] It just won't stop happening.

[00:13:06] Um, this, this past weekend, even Metro Boomin, Lil Baby and Quavo and other hip hop stars

[00:13:12] and executives attended Bad Blood.

[00:13:14] How was that y'all?

[00:13:15] It was in Atlanta.

[00:13:16] It was.

[00:13:17] It was in Atlanta.

[00:13:18] We weren't there.

[00:13:19] No.

[00:13:20] Y'all didn't like it?

[00:13:24] It was a good, it was a fine.

[00:13:30] It was good.

[00:13:30] You know, it was a fine program.

[00:13:32] People wrestled matches.

[00:13:34] There was blood.

[00:13:36] Um, was it bad?

[00:13:37] There were feuds.

[00:13:39] Mm hmm.

[00:13:39] It wasn't bad.

[00:13:40] It was just a normal, like good old, you know, show.

[00:13:43] You know, people fought.

[00:13:45] I enjoyed it.

[00:13:47] Yeah.

[00:13:47] Mm hmm.

[00:13:48] This is a wrestling rehab up or.

[00:13:50] This is not wrestling.

[00:13:51] I'm not wrestling.

[00:13:51] I don't think we're being compensated to talk about wrestling.

[00:13:54] Yeah.

[00:13:54] We're not being compensated.

[00:13:55] So.

[00:13:56] Yeah.

[00:13:58] To get Matt and Mari's thoughts, check out the rest of the wrap up.

[00:14:02] Um, they will podcast eventually.

[00:14:04] They won't tell you when or why it was just happening.

[00:14:05] Uh, just subscribe and you might hear them.

[00:14:08] How about that?

[00:14:10] Yeah.

[00:14:10] That sounds about right.

[00:14:11] Yeah.

[00:14:11] Uh huh.

[00:14:13] Okay.

[00:14:14] Well, moving on.

[00:14:16] Moving on.

[00:14:17] Um, boots Riley taps Kiki Palmer, Lakey Stanfield and more for the new film.

[00:14:24] I love boosters.

[00:14:26] Have y'all heard about this film?

[00:14:28] No, Chappelle.

[00:14:28] I thought it was about COVID vaccines.

[00:14:32] So.

[00:14:33] Oh, go get your, go get your shot.

[00:14:36] Get vaxxed.

[00:14:37] Yeah.

[00:14:38] You know, just take care of yourself.

[00:14:40] You know what I'm saying?

[00:14:41] That's like, look, we don't want to, we know.

[00:14:43] Yeah.

[00:14:44] This isn't about that.

[00:14:44] Let's just put it like that.

[00:14:45] This is about people who steal.

[00:14:47] Oh, shocker.

[00:14:48] Oh, these are people who steal.

[00:14:51] So Matt, are you telling me you're not familiar with boosters?

[00:14:53] Like the, as the occupation.

[00:14:55] I do not.

[00:14:57] I, I am.

[00:14:58] I can't be incriminated here.

[00:14:59] Chappelle.

[00:15:00] I just am familiar with the occupation.

[00:15:02] I did not ask you if you ever boosted.

[00:15:04] I am familiar with boosters as a calling and not an occupation.

[00:15:10] Right.

[00:15:10] Like some people that people do, you know, right.

[00:15:12] Some people were sent, you know, to, to bring us these things.

[00:15:16] Uh, so for the people who are not familiar, boosters are the people who they steal.

[00:15:20] They steal from, uh, uh, like large retail businesses.

[00:15:24] And then they sell, uh, those things for cheaper.

[00:15:27] Um, you know, Robin hood ask people out here doing the Lord's work.

[00:15:32] Um, and, um, this film is going to be dedicated to enterprising shoplifters.

[00:15:39] Who target a ruthless fashion mogul.

[00:15:42] Okay.

[00:15:42] So the plot still remains under wraps, but I was just looking at the cast and I think

[00:15:48] that, uh, Kiki Palmer, of course, like he Stanfield, those are becoming some of our

[00:15:52] like big names in black Hollywood, Mari.

[00:15:54] Yeah.

[00:15:56] And Boo trially and like Keith Stanfield have worked to together before on sorry to bother

[00:16:02] you, which still to this day bothers me like that.

[00:16:07] But it was so weird.

[00:16:09] Like even.

[00:16:10] They apologize.

[00:16:11] Like, yeah, I like that.

[00:16:13] That was weird, man.

[00:16:15] And that.

[00:16:16] I've never seen it.

[00:16:18] Oh, yeah.

[00:16:19] You should see it and report back.

[00:16:22] Okay.

[00:16:22] I can do that.

[00:16:23] Cause the only thing I know about sorry to bother you is that, um, that clip that they

[00:16:26] always show where he's like, there, look, he Stanfield is like, uh, uh, him and another

[00:16:31] black man have reached each other and they're like, Oh yeah.

[00:16:33] No, you look good.

[00:16:34] You look good.

[00:16:35] You know, brother.

[00:16:36] Yeah.

[00:16:37] You smell nice.

[00:16:39] Yeah.

[00:16:40] That's aggressive.

[00:16:41] Yeah.

[00:16:42] I think when it, when it dropped, I had been, I had worked at a call center before.

[00:16:47] And so this was very traumatic.

[00:16:48] I was like, I don't want to revisit that.

[00:16:49] Uh, and so I just stepped away from it cause I've been there, but Matt, have you ever

[00:16:53] seen the sorry to bother you?

[00:16:55] No.

[00:16:56] Oh, I've got to watch it.

[00:16:57] We gotta catch it out.

[00:16:58] We gotta check it out.

[00:17:00] It's so different.

[00:17:01] Like boots Riley does like, it's very surreal.

[00:17:06] It's in the vein of Atlanta.

[00:17:08] So, but it's even like more surreal.

[00:17:12] So that's why I'm like, I'm not going to spoil it for you or any of the listeners,

[00:17:15] but I was like, I was like, what did I get myself into?

[00:17:23] Yeah.

[00:17:24] Yeah.

[00:17:24] Yeah.

[00:17:25] I still think it was a good movie.

[00:17:27] Uh, yeah.

[00:17:28] Okay.

[00:17:29] Boots Riley is a rapper turned, uh, director and activist as well.

[00:17:33] Um, you know, sorry to bother you is one of his many, uh, credits.

[00:17:37] But, uh, I think that like, like Mario said, I think, Oh, the one that I knew the best,

[00:17:42] uh, was, was it, I am a Virgo.

[00:17:44] I remember when that dropped and people were talking about it.

[00:17:46] Yeah.

[00:17:47] Yeah.

[00:17:48] And we, we thought about covering it, um, on the connect, but then we, I think, I think

[00:17:54] maybe, but we just, it came out and we didn't know it came out until like it was way too

[00:18:00] late.

[00:18:00] Yeah.

[00:18:02] So maybe we got to check that out, Matt, if we talk about, uh, sorry to bother you coming

[00:18:05] back for that one.

[00:18:06] Yes, of course.

[00:18:07] I can't say no.

[00:18:08] Um, so I'll be here and I'm actually really pumped for, I love boosters right now.

[00:18:14] Just even reading the description because I feel like it's very like positive celebratory

[00:18:22] like, uh, Demi Moore is in it.

[00:18:25] I was looking at her picture right here on the screen.

[00:18:28] I was like, Ooh, that one looks vaguely familiar.

[00:18:31] Uh, so she's here.

[00:18:33] I wonder if she plays, I wonder if she plays like the, so they fashion icon.

[00:18:38] Yeah.

[00:18:40] The fashion Maven as they say.

[00:18:42] So I wonder maybe.

[00:18:45] That'd be fun.

[00:18:46] And then, uh, Naomi Aki.

[00:18:48] I can't, I don't know if that's how you say her name, but she's Whitney Houston, right?

[00:18:51] She's Whitney Houston.

[00:18:52] Yeah.

[00:18:53] Oh, which I told you I watched that movie and I was just like, you did.

[00:18:57] She is Whitney Houston though.

[00:19:00] She did a great job.

[00:19:01] It was just the script and the pacing was just weird.

[00:19:04] Biopics are, are just weird.

[00:19:06] We taught, we've talked about it before.

[00:19:08] Like it's really hard to adapt somebody's life.

[00:19:11] I feel like that's why all of them are like four hours.

[00:19:15] The Whitney Houston one, I think was maybe two, maybe a shade over two.

[00:19:22] I can't remember, but it just felt like oddly placed.

[00:19:24] It just felt like stuff was jumping, you know?

[00:19:27] Mm-hmm.

[00:19:28] It felt like they were just trying to get the song to song to song.

[00:19:30] Yeah.

[00:19:32] I enjoyed, uh, I think lifetime did a Whitney Houston biopic and it had Yaya.

[00:19:35] Me too.

[00:19:36] Yaya.

[00:19:37] Yeah.

[00:19:37] I thought she killed it.

[00:19:39] Yeah.

[00:19:40] Was that Deborah Cox who was on the vocals?

[00:19:41] Again, it was woo.

[00:19:42] That was a, that was a, yeah, she was singing.

[00:19:45] Singing.

[00:19:46] That was good.

[00:19:46] That was back in 2015, I believe.

[00:19:48] Good times.

[00:19:49] Yeah.

[00:19:50] Um, I'm happy.

[00:19:51] I'm happy to see this cast.

[00:19:52] Obviously we want to stay abreast of what's coming so that we can support these black

[00:19:56] movies and TV shows.

[00:19:58] So I'll be checking out.

[00:19:58] I love boosters.

[00:19:59] Maybe we can do a review here on recap kickback when we get there.

[00:20:04] Um, speaking of biopics, uh, we do have another biopic coming our way this time starring,

[00:20:09] um, and I mean, I guess this is, this is very fitting because Naomi Aki being a British

[00:20:14] descent.

[00:20:14] Uh, we got another British person coming here to do.

[00:20:17] Her too?

[00:20:17] She's another one.

[00:20:18] Still in our jobs.

[00:20:19] We got John Boyega's back y'all.

[00:20:22] And John will be playing Otis Redding in the upcoming biopic Otis and Zelma.

[00:20:29] Um, yeah.

[00:20:31] I love my innits.

[00:20:32] I love my brothers and sisters from over there, but are they, are there none of us?

[00:20:36] We are there none?

[00:20:39] Mari, calm, calm down.

[00:20:41] We can't call them out.

[00:20:43] I mean, I'm not, I'm not even calling them out because they're all really good actors and

[00:20:47] actresses.

[00:20:48] I'm just like, we have to stick together.

[00:20:53] We are.

[00:20:53] I am not causing a diaspora war.

[00:20:56] Believe me.

[00:20:57] That is not it.

[00:20:59] Exactly.

[00:21:00] Just to see who caused the diaspora war.

[00:21:01] Yeah.

[00:21:02] No, I, I know.

[00:21:03] I, I'm just shocked every time I'm like, they're British too?

[00:21:07] Like how?

[00:21:08] Another one.

[00:21:09] How?

[00:21:09] How is this happening?

[00:21:11] Uh, African American actors and actresses go into those, um, go into those, those auditions.

[00:21:20] I've got a chance.

[00:21:21] With a British accent.

[00:21:24] You gotta lie.

[00:21:26] You gotta lie now.

[00:21:27] You gotta, look, they're stealing our job.

[00:21:29] Look, ever since 21 Savage revealed to us that he was British, things have not been

[00:21:33] the same.

[00:21:35] Like what?

[00:21:36] It, like, oh my God.

[00:21:38] I didn't, yeah.

[00:21:39] And then, and then once you get the job, then drop it and be like, and they can't fire

[00:21:44] you now because you did such a good job of convincing them that it even more proves

[00:21:51] that you're a better actor.

[00:21:53] Are you implying that?

[00:21:54] You are a British, you are, you're American pretending to be British pretending to be American.

[00:22:00] Yeah.

[00:22:01] It's kind of like, now you gotta, then you're like the layers.

[00:22:05] Yeah.

[00:22:05] Like, like, why would you want to fire me now?

[00:22:07] I, that was the ultimate acting job.

[00:22:10] I'm just saying.

[00:22:11] I don't know if that's how that works, but.

[00:22:13] Matt, you don't support that.

[00:22:15] No, I like how Mari, I, I, I, Mari, I'm on board with Mari.

[00:22:18] What is that?

[00:22:20] A British actor playing an American actor playing a British actor playing an American

[00:22:25] actor.

[00:22:25] Like Robert Downey Jr.

[00:22:28] Oh, no, stop, stop, stop.

[00:22:31] Cut that, cut that, cut that.

[00:22:33] Oh, so Otis Redding, obviously, the iconic, like soul singer, hits like Sitting on Dock of

[00:22:43] the Bay, These Arms of Mine.

[00:22:45] I remember I had the best of Otis Redding, uh, CD when I was in high school.

[00:22:51] Okay.

[00:22:51] Wait, nothing.

[00:22:52] Okay.

[00:22:53] I was very excited to have that.

[00:22:54] I felt like sitting in my old man truth.

[00:22:57] Hmm.

[00:22:58] I had that.

[00:22:59] I had that too.

[00:22:59] I bought that for my dad, but I, but I did.

[00:23:02] You had it too?

[00:23:03] I did.

[00:23:03] I did.

[00:23:04] I got it.

[00:23:05] And that, I feel like that and like, um, like there was like an, I had an Ella Fitzgerald

[00:23:10] one, a Roberto Black one.

[00:23:12] So, but I feel like I don't know enough.

[00:23:15] One, I do think about Otis Redding a good amount, but I don't feel like I know enough

[00:23:19] about his life.

[00:23:20] Truly.

[00:23:21] That's what I was going to say.

[00:23:22] The only thing I feel like I know about Otis Redding is he got injured in an accident,

[00:23:26] right?

[00:23:26] Didn't a piece of a stage fall on him?

[00:23:29] Dear Lord.

[00:23:30] Well, that, and he also, he died in a, in a plane crash.

[00:23:34] Um, he died at 26 years old, which is wild because Otis Redding is one of those people

[00:23:39] who look like he grown, grown.

[00:23:43] He was only 26 when he passed away.

[00:23:46] Otis Redding looked older than me today.

[00:23:47] And I have a lot of years on Otis Redding.

[00:23:50] For sure.

[00:23:50] Now, now I got to stay out of that rabbit hole.

[00:23:53] So I can just watch the movie.

[00:23:55] I didn't know about that.

[00:23:57] Like, I'm pretty sure I only know about the Otis Redding, like concert accident because

[00:24:03] of like the, um, the hundred shocking moments in, in, in music, like bring those back.

[00:24:12] Like, yeah, bring those back.

[00:24:14] That's how I know so much history about like, uh, like music and stuff and just random little

[00:24:20] bit.

[00:24:21] Yeah.

[00:24:21] Like random bits of history.

[00:24:22] I miss those.

[00:24:24] I miss those so much.

[00:24:25] Like the hundred, a hundred shocking events in music history.

[00:24:30] Oh my God.

[00:24:30] A hundred greatest one hit wonders.

[00:24:33] Yeah.

[00:24:34] Uh, we can bring that here to recap kickback.

[00:24:36] Look, look, let me compile some lists.

[00:24:39] We can do it.

[00:24:40] That's cool.

[00:24:41] But yeah.

[00:24:41] Um, I'm very, I'm looking forward to that.

[00:24:44] I'm very excited about it.

[00:24:45] Danielle Deb Weiler also being in it.

[00:24:46] I remember her as Yoli from P Valley, but she's in a lot of other things as well.

[00:24:50] Uh, and so very excited for that because again, 26 years.

[00:24:54] Yoli from P Valley?

[00:24:56] Yeah.

[00:24:56] Like a, she's like a backup character.

[00:24:58] The background character.

[00:24:59] Yeah.

[00:24:59] She's from, she's from the heart of they fall though.

[00:25:01] Right.

[00:25:02] Uh, I believe so.

[00:25:03] Yes.

[00:25:03] I believe it was the heart of they fall.

[00:25:05] Um, and she was Cuffy, Cuffy.

[00:25:08] Cuffy.

[00:25:08] Yeah.

[00:25:09] Yeah.

[00:25:10] Yeah.

[00:25:11] And she was the PA person as well.

[00:25:14] You know, so she's, she's decorated.

[00:25:16] So between the two of them, I think this is going to be a good biopic.

[00:25:19] But again, Mari said, like Mari said it best.

[00:25:21] Um, it's like, uh, biopics are hard because a lot of people are looking for like, does this

[00:25:25] person look like them?

[00:25:26] Do they get the essence of the person that I want?

[00:25:28] Or it's like, he's a good actor, you know?

[00:25:31] And I think John Boyega and Daniel Deadweiler, they, they serve both those purposes.

[00:25:34] Like they're good actors.

[00:25:35] And so like, I don't really care if they don't look identical.

[00:25:39] Uh, to like, you know, really evoke the essence of who I think Otis Redding is, or at least

[00:25:44] show me who he is in this, in this docuseries because it was 26 year old when he died.

[00:25:49] He had three kids, you know?

[00:25:50] So, uh, yeah.

[00:25:55] What do you remember?

[00:25:56] I gotta go back to our top five for biopics because for me, I, I think I said on it,

[00:26:02] I'm not really, uh, like a biopic type person.

[00:26:05] Like I don't really, I don't do biopics.

[00:26:08] I don't do like memoirs.

[00:26:09] I don't read memoirs and stuff like that.

[00:26:10] But Chadwick, Chadwick Boseman really did.

[00:26:14] Like I loved 42.

[00:26:16] Yeah.

[00:26:17] I loved it on up.

[00:26:18] He like, he, it felt like every, like every two seconds he was in a, in a biopic, but every

[00:26:24] time he was, I watched it and it was just so good.

[00:26:27] But yeah, I think, well, we had the Jackson's number one or something like that.

[00:26:30] I'm pretty sure if we did it, I think it might've been the temptations might've been number

[00:26:34] one.

[00:26:35] Yeah.

[00:26:36] Um, yeah, again, it's, it's going to be hard to top something like that as well.

[00:26:40] You know, the five heartbeats, which is, yeah.

[00:26:44] Which is not a,

[00:26:46] it does not count.

[00:26:49] So many people ask this about it.

[00:26:51] Yeah.

[00:26:52] They're like, why not the five heartbeats?

[00:26:53] They're like, y'all, how many times, how many times I'll tell y'all.

[00:26:55] It's not real.

[00:26:57] It's just like the temptations with some glitter on it.

[00:26:59] You know, like they took other babies.

[00:27:01] Anyway, it's like dream girls, you know, it's like, right.

[00:27:07] Yeah.

[00:27:07] It's like the same, you know?

[00:27:09] Um, so yes, that'll, that'll be coming soon as well.

[00:27:12] Matt, what's up?

[00:27:13] What do you like biopics?

[00:27:15] No, no, but I'm, I'm like very invested in Otis Redding right now because I'm just

[00:27:21] like, here's the thing to your point about like, oh, does the actor look like, uh, like

[00:27:27] the actual person.

[00:27:28] I don't, I hope that we don't run to that that much with Otis Redding.

[00:27:32] Cause that's one of the stories that people really sleep on.

[00:27:35] Like we don't know his life to the level that we can.

[00:27:39] It's insane that he was 26 when he died.

[00:27:42] Yeah.

[00:27:42] And even just like scrolling through his Wikipedia, I'm like, what the hell?

[00:27:46] This man lived so much life in 26 years.

[00:27:49] So I'm invested just to, to learn the story.

[00:27:53] And I'm, I'm also not like, oh, that he doesn't look like, or sound like, like, no, that's

[00:27:58] not, that's not going to be my reaction.

[00:28:00] And hopefully most people are open to like learning about his story through this.

[00:28:05] Cause I feel like the diehards are just going to be happy that it's coming out.

[00:28:07] Like the people who really know Otis will be happy that it's coming out.

[00:28:11] It's random.

[00:28:12] I'm just happy.

[00:28:13] Oh, what's the rules of Twitch?

[00:28:16] Because what do you mean?

[00:28:18] Because like, like we say like, oh, we should watch sorry to bother you or whatever.

[00:28:22] Yeah.

[00:28:23] Like don't people be like streaming my whole movies and stuff and watching them with people

[00:28:28] on Twitch.

[00:28:29] I, I don't know.

[00:28:31] I'm not a lawyer personally.

[00:28:33] Chappelle might be, so we'll get to him next, but like, I just feel like you do whatever

[00:28:37] and then you get a copyright strike.

[00:28:40] You know what I'm saying?

[00:28:40] Like, you're not going to be, you'll be fine.

[00:28:44] They will.

[00:28:44] The copyright strike is my advice.

[00:28:47] That's like the first sanction before they snatch you though.

[00:28:50] If you keep doing it for sure, you'll be a strike.

[00:28:53] Yeah.

[00:28:54] Yeah.

[00:28:55] But you can probably get away with anything once.

[00:28:57] Cause remember we were just on a wrestling podcast and, and a guy was talking about

[00:29:01] he street.

[00:29:02] Remember he said he was going to stream the whole like pay-per-view like the AEW pay-per-view.

[00:29:07] Yeah.

[00:29:07] No, that to me sounds, uh, that sounds, that's definitely a copyright strike, but you can get

[00:29:12] away with it if no one knows, like if no one works it.

[00:29:15] Right.

[00:29:15] And I watched this black girl watch true crime stuff on Twitch.

[00:29:19] Not just, I forget her name.

[00:29:21] But she like be, but she's like, great.

[00:29:23] She has, she has like, like thousands of people watch her.

[00:29:27] I remember watching the thing.

[00:29:29] And I just like stumbled on her.

[00:29:30] Yeah, exactly.

[00:29:31] It was like me too.

[00:29:32] I was like, wow.

[00:29:33] She watched, she watches body cam footage.

[00:29:35] She watches like.

[00:29:36] Oh no.

[00:29:37] Yeah.

[00:29:38] You're watching body cam footage.

[00:29:40] Obviously low key.

[00:29:41] Low key.

[00:29:42] I feel like it'd be hard to watch her watching the body cam footage than actually watching

[00:29:45] the body cam footage.

[00:29:46] She makes it so entertaining.

[00:29:47] Yeah.

[00:29:48] That's weird.

[00:29:48] Yeah.

[00:29:50] We'll have to look into what the rules are.

[00:29:51] Cause maybe we could start playing some trailers on here or something, you know, where

[00:29:54] people can like, when we talk about these things coming up, we can at least play the trailer.

[00:29:58] Um, that way we're not just like explaining to everybody what's happening.

[00:30:01] We can actually have like a little visual element.

[00:30:03] We have to check it out.

[00:30:04] Um, they won't pay us if we start playing a lot, too many clips though.

[00:30:07] Like they definitely gonna be like, nah, we're not monetizing this, but they might

[00:30:09] leave it up.

[00:30:10] Right.

[00:30:10] Um, which would be fun.

[00:30:11] Um, something to think about for sure.

[00:30:14] Uh, last.

[00:30:15] I want to talk about what's coming soon.

[00:30:17] Uh, very important here for recap kickbacks specifically because we have Abbott elementary

[00:30:20] coverage and this season Abbott elementary and it's always summer and sunny in Philadelphia

[00:30:26] are doing a crossover episode.

[00:30:29] Um, Matt, do you watch?

[00:30:31] It's always sunny in Philadelphia.

[00:30:33] Both of them.

[00:30:34] I mean, I'm okay.

[00:30:35] Let me put this out here.

[00:30:36] It's always sunny in Philadelphia.

[00:30:38] I am there.

[00:30:40] I'm like 25 seasons.

[00:30:41] I am up to, I don't watch it regularly.

[00:30:44] Like, but I'm maybe on like season eight or something like that.

[00:30:48] You know what I'm saying?

[00:30:48] Like I will get to it all eventually.

[00:30:51] I love seeing them going from like really problematic.

[00:30:56] Um, and you know, it's like always the tongue in cheek.

[00:30:58] Like these are horrible people type thing.

[00:30:59] I love seeing them go from like really problematic to like less problematic over time.

[00:31:04] It's really, um, inspiring for me.

[00:31:07] And I just remembered my favorite always sunny.

[00:31:10] Shut up.

[00:31:10] What episode?

[00:31:11] Atlantic city.

[00:31:12] Oh yeah.

[00:31:13] Uh, no, they have a lot of good.

[00:31:15] Yeah.

[00:31:16] They have a lot of good ones.

[00:31:17] That's a, that's a solid one.

[00:31:18] Atlantic city is trash.

[00:31:19] So yeah.

[00:31:20] The Atlantic city one.

[00:31:21] It's hilarious.

[00:31:22] They, it.

[00:31:23] There's like a truck driver or like, there's a, there's a beach ham.

[00:31:28] And then, uh, D D gets her hair braided.

[00:31:32] Like if you were to go to like a Caribbean country, like braided with me.

[00:31:36] Yeah.

[00:31:37] Vacation braids.

[00:31:38] Yeah.

[00:31:39] And they go, then they go up on a, like a little tower thing that does like a drop tower.

[00:31:45] And one of her brains gets.

[00:31:47] Yeah.

[00:31:51] Yeah.

[00:31:51] this is why people.

[00:31:52] Yeah.

[00:31:53] It actually is like, it's a, it's actually a great show.

[00:31:57] Just take shots at people like that.

[00:31:59] So I'm actually really happy that they're doing a crossover.

[00:32:04] But my question is why are they doing a crossover?

[00:32:06] Cause it's always studies.

[00:32:08] About four friends.

[00:32:08] We want a bar.

[00:32:09] They should be nowhere.

[00:32:11] Yeah.

[00:32:11] I know, but they should be nowhere near the kids.

[00:32:15] Mari.

[00:32:15] Don't you think that teachers drink?

[00:32:18] They go to bar.

[00:32:18] If it's just the teachers.

[00:32:20] Okay.

[00:32:20] Yeah.

[00:32:21] They better not come to the school.

[00:32:23] I don't know.

[00:32:23] Go to the school.

[00:32:24] But I did.

[00:32:25] I do feel like I saw pictures of them.

[00:32:26] Like on the set outside of the school.

[00:32:29] Oh, no.

[00:32:30] I don't know what that was, but that's what it looked like.

[00:32:35] Yeah.

[00:32:35] I don't know what would bring these people, these worlds to collide, but they're both in

[00:32:39] Philly and they do get bars.

[00:32:41] And so it could happen.

[00:32:43] But like y'all said, I think it's always sunny.

[00:32:45] I've only seen limited episodes, but very few.

[00:32:48] But to me, it's always painted as like, these are the worst people.

[00:32:51] They're all bad people.

[00:32:52] They're just sitting at a bar drinking together.

[00:32:53] They're the best, you know, stuff happens to them or around them because they're not

[00:32:56] great.

[00:32:57] But then Abbott, you have like, you know, the world's nicest teachers with the, the sweetest

[00:33:02] kids who are also like up to shenanigans.

[00:33:04] I'm like, okay, how do those two things collide and bring us, uh, like some good television.

[00:33:10] I trust Quinta Brunson, obviously.

[00:33:13] And so I know it's going to be good.

[00:33:16] And we're going to talk about it here on recap kickback because Gia and I are going to

[00:33:19] be covering season four of once again.

[00:33:22] Yes, Gia Worthy and I will be back.

[00:33:24] I believe this, uh, Sunday we'll be dropping our recap of the premiere of season four of

[00:33:29] Abbott elementary right here on recap kickback.

[00:33:31] You can also, uh, check us out if you just want our Abbott stuff on the, we know Abbott

[00:33:36] elementary feed, uh, or on whatever.

[00:33:39] I don't know.

[00:33:39] It's going to, it's going to be up by then.

[00:33:40] It's going to be up by Sunday.

[00:33:41] Check it out.

[00:33:42] And then make sure you tune into the recaps for me, for me and Gia.

[00:33:46] Uh, cause we're going to try to bring that coverage as we've been doing.

[00:33:48] We've been covering it since season two.

[00:33:50] So this is kind of our baby.

[00:33:51] We got it.

[00:33:52] We got to stick it out.

[00:33:53] Uh, and so I'm very excited to see when this, um, always sunny crossover pops up because

[00:33:58] we're back to 22 episode seasons.

[00:34:00] Abbott is back in full swing last season.

[00:34:02] Yeah.

[00:34:02] We had an abbreviated season due to the writer strike and all that good stuff, but we're

[00:34:07] fully back, Matt.

[00:34:07] You going to come on to be a guest for our podcast.

[00:34:09] I'm here Chappelle.

[00:34:10] I'm already here.

[00:34:11] Just like, let's, let's roll right into it.

[00:34:13] Uh, we'll stay on.

[00:34:15] Wait, Mari question for you as someone who's watched always sunny.

[00:34:18] Do they have any black people in the later seasons or in the later seasons?

[00:34:23] I don't know.

[00:34:24] We like, it's the same thing.

[00:34:26] Like James loved it.

[00:34:27] It's always sunny.

[00:34:28] And we used to watch it.

[00:34:29] Um, like, you know, when we got, when, when we like closer, when we were in around college

[00:34:34] and we will watch like just randomly, there's so many, it's like the episodes they were

[00:34:39] like, I went to the Eagles game.

[00:34:42] Like, yeah, it's, it is very problematic.

[00:34:44] It's very funny.

[00:34:46] Um, but they always make fun of like the point of the years like themselves.

[00:34:53] Even when I think of like the few black cameos, like it just makes mostly black people like,

[00:35:00] what are you like?

[00:35:01] Yes, exactly.

[00:35:02] It's like, it's like, they're like, they know what they're doing.

[00:35:06] I like all.

[00:35:07] You have to appreciate it.

[00:35:08] Yeah.

[00:35:09] It's good.

[00:35:09] They've been around for 20 seasons for a reason.

[00:35:12] Probably other than the fact that they produce their own show and all, but you know.

[00:35:16] Yeah.

[00:35:16] Look, if we get the best episode of it, it's always sunny.

[00:35:19] Yeah.

[00:35:19] If we're blessed to get 20 seasons of Abbott, then I'll be around for every last one of them.

[00:35:24] But I think this crossover is going to be great.

[00:35:26] I've heard nothing but the things about it's always sunny.

[00:35:28] And obviously I can't speak highly enough to really encapsulate like how much I love Abbott

[00:35:34] Elementary.

[00:35:34] So make sure you check it out this week on NBC and then make sure you, of course, keep up with the podcast when G and I will talk about it this season.

[00:35:44] That said, that's our black entertainment news for the week.

[00:35:46] That's what's coming soon.

[00:35:47] And, you know, thank you all for listening and giving us the feedback.

[00:35:52] Obviously, if you want us to talk about something that happens this week, let us know.

[00:35:55] You can tweet us at Recap Kickback or you can email us Recap Kickback at call.com at or what Recap Kickback at gmail.com.

[00:36:04] I'm sorry.

[00:36:05] Messed that up.

[00:36:05] Yes.

[00:36:06] Recap Kickback at gmail.com and at Recap Kickback on all social media platforms.

[00:36:10] So let us know what you want us to talk about this week.

[00:36:11] Now, up next, we're going to complete our coverage of how to dial on our recap.

[00:36:17] We talked about episodes one through four already.

[00:36:20] And so now we're going to talk about the season in its entirety right after this break.

[00:36:26] All right.

[00:36:27] And we're back.

[00:36:29] Before we get into how to dial on, Mari, did you watch Bob Hart's Abishola?

[00:36:34] We're supposed to be supporting these shows.

[00:36:36] No, I didn't.

[00:36:37] And you know, I didn't.

[00:36:38] So why are we even pretending?

[00:36:39] Did you watch what you were supposed to watch?

[00:36:42] What was I supposed to watch?

[00:36:44] I don't know.

[00:36:45] It was something.

[00:36:49] Look, I will say this.

[00:36:50] A lot of people, a lot of people really did cosign what you said though, Mari, about Southside.

[00:36:56] Everybody was there.

[00:36:57] Oh yeah, that's what y'all were supposed to watch.

[00:36:59] I saw some clips.

[00:37:01] I saw some clips.

[00:37:02] I haven't watched it.

[00:37:02] I've seen more of Southside than you've seen of Bob Hart's Abishola for sure.

[00:37:06] What clips did you see though?

[00:37:07] Oh, okay.

[00:37:09] So, um, it was a guy.

[00:37:11] Oh man.

[00:37:12] Let me remember what happened.

[00:37:13] Uh, cause it was hilarious actually.

[00:37:16] And it's funny cause I think one of the listeners, uh, sent it to my Twitter DMs.

[00:37:19] Cause I was like, what the hell is this?

[00:37:21] Google, Google, Google.

[00:37:21] I was like, is this a parody?

[00:37:23] No, I'm about to pull up the actual clip.

[00:37:25] Um, but yeah, cause I thought it was a parody.

[00:37:27] Uh, oh yes, here it is.

[00:37:29] Uh, I think it's a bailiff is talking in court.

[00:37:32] Right.

[00:37:33] And they're asking the bailiff about like different questions about the case, but he keeps complaining

[00:37:37] about the dude's shoes.

[00:37:39] He's like, yeah.

[00:37:40] And then like, I like, I like, and obviously he wouldn't have done this.

[00:37:42] Cause why was he wearing them shoes?

[00:37:44] And then I like bailiff chill.

[00:37:45] And then, uh, he said, like, I knew I couldn't trust him ever since he walked in with a do-rag

[00:37:49] as a pocket square or something like that.

[00:37:51] And I screamed.

[00:37:53] So yeah, I've seen some clips now of Southside.

[00:37:56] People are speaking highly of it.

[00:37:57] Apparently it's still on HBO on max.

[00:37:59] So you can still watch it.

[00:38:01] Yeah.

[00:38:01] Clips were floating around last week because I, or earlier this week on Twitter, because

[00:38:05] it was like, it said show.

[00:38:07] Uh, it was like, what is one under underrated, um, uh, comedic TV show that people don't talk

[00:38:16] about enough and South there's clips of Southside all over the place because yeah.

[00:38:22] That show.

[00:38:24] Oh my God.

[00:38:25] But you need to, you need to watch, uh, Bob Hart's Abishola.

[00:38:29] And according to Google, um, the number one episode is season one, episode 10, which aired

[00:38:35] on December 8th, 2019 ice cream for breakfast where Bob must gain confidence to fight for

[00:38:43] Abishola when she goes on another date with some guy.

[00:38:49] And there's all sorts of stuff that happens.

[00:38:51] It's like there's uncle tune day and he finds something like friends.

[00:38:56] And it's always, you have to tune in.

[00:38:58] Yeah.

[00:38:59] Yeah.

[00:38:59] You got to tune in a little.

[00:39:00] Well, y'all got to tune into Southside crazy white murderer.

[00:39:05] Like I told y'all to let me check it out.

[00:39:08] And then y'all got to go watch bus down on Peacock because I watched bus down.

[00:39:12] I told you to watch bus down.

[00:39:14] And I will never get another bus down, but that's not why we're here.

[00:39:19] Matt, we got to talk about how to die alone.

[00:39:21] What did you think about the whole series?

[00:39:23] We do.

[00:39:25] The show is I have so much to say about the series.

[00:39:29] I'm so glad we did it in in halves because, you know, let me just put this out there coming

[00:39:35] in hot like, um, Mel, Melissa, Natasha Rothwell's character.

[00:39:41] She is the villain.

[00:39:42] She's the villain from the beginning.

[00:39:45] And we saw it coming, but they just served it up to us as if it's normal as if everything

[00:39:51] she did was normal.

[00:39:52] And I love every bit of it.

[00:39:54] And I love how the show had one season, but they said, we're going to leave so many different cliffhangers

[00:39:59] that you need to give us a second.

[00:40:00] So I, I feel like people love this show.

[00:40:04] I loved it.

[00:40:05] I love the attention to detail.

[00:40:07] Um, we need to know, obviously we'll get to what happened at the very end of the season,

[00:40:13] but we need to know what happened with that.

[00:40:15] Uh, obviously if you're listening now, you're, uh, hopefully, uh, you've got to spoil it.

[00:40:20] We're going to spoil it.

[00:40:22] We're going to spoil it.

[00:40:23] So yeah.

[00:40:25] Um, be prepared.

[00:40:27] This is it.

[00:40:28] That's this your final warning.

[00:40:29] Let's talk about it.

[00:40:30] I had so much fun watching this.

[00:40:32] I cannot wait for season two.

[00:40:34] You know, we got to cross our fingers and pray to the black guys.

[00:40:38] Let Jesus help us out here.

[00:40:40] Y'all good for canceling our show before they get that get going.

[00:40:43] I've not seen anything but positive feedback about this show.

[00:40:48] Mari, how much did you love it?

[00:40:49] I loved every minute of it.

[00:40:52] Matt is right.

[00:40:53] I was like, Oh, city girls down a thousand.

[00:40:57] Oh yeah.

[00:40:57] Um, I was like, Oh, Chappelle's going to love this.

[00:41:01] This screams Lawrence hive.

[00:41:03] All of you see us almost wore my blue shirt.

[00:41:06] Yeah.

[00:41:07] Um, but no, it was so good.

[00:41:10] They, it really feels like they flipped so many things on its head.

[00:41:15] Like in this show, while it's still all felt grounded, like this show felt very grounded, very relatable, but also had whimsical elements.

[00:41:26] Yeah.

[00:41:28] Also like showed a different point of view.

[00:41:32] It was great.

[00:41:33] I love this show.

[00:41:35] Eight episodes is just not enough.

[00:41:37] Like these characters deserve 22 episodes, but that's just not the model anymore.

[00:41:42] Unfortunately.

[00:41:43] Yeah.

[00:41:43] And you know what they, they resolved the stuff that they needed to resolve.

[00:41:48] They left open.

[00:41:50] I think they did.

[00:41:51] And then they left this stuff open that like, I feel like they're kind of going to be open.

[00:41:56] Give us a damn second season.

[00:41:58] Yeah.

[00:41:58] Because I, but I do feel like, like for instance, the one thing on my mind is like, I don't need more of Melissa being afraid of flying.

[00:42:06] Like we didn't need that going into second season.

[00:42:08] So I'm glad that that is resolved.

[00:42:11] Maybe she'll have issues with flying in the future because of how this one ended up.

[00:42:15] So we'll see.

[00:42:16] But I feel like there was a lot, including her brother, Brian's relationship and where that goes.

[00:42:25] There, her relationship with Terrence.

[00:42:27] How did the wedding go with Alex and the Maui wedding or whatever, getting Maui.

[00:42:34] Getting Maui.

[00:42:35] I want to know.

[00:42:37] Like, and they did it in such a way that is like, okay, say they don't get a second season.

[00:42:43] I think was everything was all very satisfying.

[00:42:47] And it didn't.

[00:42:48] And fiction about it, you know?

[00:42:50] Yes.

[00:42:51] Yeah.

[00:42:51] And I don't feel like they rushed it.

[00:42:53] Like you can tell the, the one thing I hate about like some network shows, right?

[00:42:58] Is you can tell what back when it was the 22 season style format, some network shows, you could tell around like episode eight, nine, 10, stuff like this.

[00:43:06] Like they weren't sure if they were gonna.

[00:43:08] Uh huh.

[00:43:09] Renewed.

[00:43:10] So they would like hurry up, get the leads together, get whatever, whatever.

[00:43:13] Then they got renewed and they're like, okay, well now, now we gotta like go backwards.

[00:43:18] And then now it's a whole different show now because we, we kind of wrapped some stuff up.

[00:43:23] This didn't feel like that.

[00:43:24] This felt like, like Matt said that they left some things open, but, but definitely gave us closure to, to other things.

[00:43:31] So yeah, perfectly executed.

[00:43:34] And I believe no, what the big headline is here because I can't like, I want to talk about all the stuff that happened.

[00:43:42] All of the stuff.

[00:43:42] Yeah, we got to start with the end.

[00:43:45] Mari, like, you know, I kind of, I kind of hinted at this earlier, but we've had shows that are canceled after a few seasons that we don't ever get a resolution to.

[00:43:54] And this very much reminded me of rap shit Mari because, well, at the end of this, she's arrested for credit card fraud.

[00:44:04] And now if we don't get a second season, we won't ever know what happens.

[00:44:09] This is literally what happened on rap shit.

[00:44:11] That's true.

[00:44:12] But I feel like it, but it's still not that bad.

[00:44:15] Like, I don't know.

[00:44:16] I, I, I, I still agree with Matt in a sense of like, I, I thought it was funny because did we, did we all honestly think she was gonna, she was gonna get arrested for a credit card fraud?

[00:44:28] No.

[00:44:30] Which I think was great about it.

[00:44:33] You know what I'm saying?

[00:44:33] Like, I think, and, and which is an ending that I'm like, well, she went to jail.

[00:44:38] Like, I don't think I really need to know.

[00:44:41] That's how you die alone.

[00:44:43] No, sorry.

[00:44:44] That's wrong, Matt.

[00:44:45] I disagree.

[00:44:46] I disagree.

[00:44:47] Well, you know what?

[00:44:48] You're wrong because I feel like to me, this, this feels like as a New Jersey person, New Jersey native myself, this feels like the Sopranos series finale, you know, Tony, he's in the diner and then the mobsters come in and then everything cuts to black.

[00:45:06] And you're like, did Tony die?

[00:45:07] Did he not?

[00:45:07] Like I'm on the edge of my seat.

[00:45:09] Even more than I was with that.

[00:45:11] If you are a sophisticated Sopranos deep diver like myself, you would know that everything faded to black because Tony was shot in the back of the head.

[00:45:23] And that is what mimics like, spoiler, spoiler.

[00:45:28] Yes, we figured it out.

[00:45:29] Yes, we figured it out.

[00:45:30] I didn't see the Sopranos, but I guess I don't have to watch it.

[00:45:32] I'm joking.

[00:45:33] I ain't seen a damn episode of the Sopranos.

[00:45:36] You're like, I needed to know what everybody was talking about.

[00:45:38] I needed to know what everybody was talking about.

[00:45:40] It's hilarious.

[00:45:41] Yeah.

[00:45:41] It's hilarious because I, yeah, kind of same.

[00:45:45] Like I actually want to properly watch that.

[00:45:46] We're not talking about that.

[00:45:47] We're not talking about that show now.

[00:45:48] There's not a lot of my people to spread, y'all.

[00:45:50] It's not our fault we keep watching.

[00:45:51] I know the lore.

[00:45:53] I know the lore.

[00:45:54] I know the lore.

[00:45:54] But I feel like people were freaking out about it after.

[00:45:58] They were.

[00:45:58] And with this, like you leave the cliffhangers and now people are still like, we're talking

[00:46:03] about it now.

[00:46:03] I'm sure people are still talking about it.

[00:46:05] I am on, I am on the side of Tony was, there was a, there was a guy in there.

[00:46:10] I met this show.

[00:46:12] It was in the mirror.

[00:46:13] I know this show.

[00:46:14] We're not going to argue about a show we didn't watch.

[00:46:16] We're not going to argue about a show we didn't watch.

[00:46:18] Matt, I need to know if, like what's going to happen because I think that you're

[00:46:24] right.

[00:46:24] We get her going to jail and that could be an ending, but I think that's the wackest

[00:46:28] ending ever.

[00:46:29] If we don't ever get a follow up because, but listen, look at all the questions we still

[00:46:33] have.

[00:46:33] We don't know what happens with the wedding at all.

[00:46:36] We don't know what would have happened between her and Terrence.

[00:46:40] We don't know anything.

[00:46:41] Which is great.

[00:46:42] We don't know what happens with her husband.

[00:46:43] But no, what, don't you want answers to these questions?

[00:46:46] Not if I don't get a season two.

[00:46:48] Season two.

[00:46:49] That's what I'm saying.

[00:46:50] Like if there's no season two, like I want there to be a season two, but if there's

[00:46:54] no season two, this is fine to me.

[00:46:56] Don't say that.

[00:46:57] They know because they always rush characters together.

[00:47:00] Like if they rush her and Terrence together, like why would they rush her and Terrence together

[00:47:04] so quickly after the whole season?

[00:47:06] No.

[00:47:07] After she just couldn't say she, she loved Alex.

[00:47:11] It doesn't make sense for her to automatically just be like, Oh wait, I don't like Alex because

[00:47:16] I love Terrence.

[00:47:17] It's like, that's not, that's not something you figure out in a day and a half.

[00:47:21] But yes, but I would like the second season so we could figure it out.

[00:47:24] You know what I'm saying?

[00:47:25] 100%.

[00:47:26] Nobody, nobody's saying we don't need a second season.

[00:47:28] Lock it in.

[00:47:29] I just want to go on record that we are all aligned that this is not okay.

[00:47:34] Yes.

[00:47:34] We need another season.

[00:47:34] No, that's not okay.

[00:47:35] Yeah.

[00:47:36] You're right.

[00:47:37] You're right.

[00:47:38] And to your credit, Chappelle, Mari, you were saying some of that if there isn't a second.

[00:47:45] There is no, if you know, I'm saying that this is a, this is definitely a better ending to me than, than a rap shit at season two, because like that felt like that felt so unresolved in a sense.

[00:48:02] Like, so I don't even want to think about it.

[00:48:05] I know.

[00:48:06] Yeah.

[00:48:06] Like that feels so, so, so unresolved.

[00:48:09] This to me doesn't feel unresolved.

[00:48:12] That's, that's what I'm saying.

[00:48:13] Like, I love this season.

[00:48:15] What?

[00:48:16] And I think that they did all they could to get a second season.

[00:48:18] So they should get a second season.

[00:48:20] Yeah.

[00:48:20] If they don't, I am still satisfied with this ending because it was something I didn't see coming.

[00:48:28] I thought it was funny.

[00:48:29] I thought it was fitting.

[00:48:30] It, it flipped it.

[00:48:31] Like I said, it flipped a lot of things on this head.

[00:48:33] It answered and it, and it answered questions just enough like her and Rory, like kind of reconnecting just a little bit before.

[00:48:41] Like it all to me just was, was really good.

[00:48:45] Her mom saying, I guess I ain't a bitch can't get no cone of coffee was hilarious.

[00:48:51] Yeah.

[00:48:52] We, we, we, entire journey here with Melissa.

[00:48:55] I think last time when we were talking about this, we kind of left off at, she found her brother on a dating site.

[00:49:00] Um, we did not continue on to say that, Matt, she goes on to catfish her brother for months.

[00:49:06] I need to read Brian whenever anybody is ready.

[00:49:10] I mean, you know what?

[00:49:12] First of all.

[00:49:13] For months.

[00:49:14] Yeah.

[00:49:15] It wasn't months.

[00:49:16] Was it months?

[00:49:16] I don't know.

[00:49:18] I don't know the time frame.

[00:49:19] I don't think it was months.

[00:49:20] Why do you think it was months, Chappelle?

[00:49:22] Because, uh, because they ended up at Thanksgiving.

[00:49:23] Was it Thanksgiving?

[00:49:25] Like I don't, I, yeah, I feel like there was a legitimate time jump because she talks about how she was about to graduate from the program.

[00:49:31] Uh, and when we, when we leave her, like when we leave her before the time jump, she's just getting into that program.

[00:49:37] By Thanksgiving, she's announcing like, Hey, my graduation's coming up.

[00:49:40] Uh, she's got new hair.

[00:49:41] I feel like this has been, it's been months at least.

[00:49:43] How long's the program?

[00:49:44] No, the whole show, the whole show took place between October and, and, um, New Year's day.

[00:49:51] So she was in a four week program.

[00:49:53] Four, four week, a four week program.

[00:49:55] Pretty much management program.

[00:49:57] Was she, I don't, I didn't think she was catfishing her brother that long.

[00:50:01] I thought it was like, uh.

[00:50:03] Can I just bring up?

[00:50:05] I think that that, look, I don't care how long she was catfishing him for because it was way too long.

[00:50:13] It was way too long.

[00:50:14] Way too long.

[00:50:16] It might've been, it might've even been like a week or two weeks.

[00:50:19] You know what I mean?

[00:50:19] That's what it felt like to me.

[00:50:21] It felt like a, like a Tinder thing.

[00:50:23] Like a, Hey, whatever, whatever, whatever.

[00:50:24] No, no.

[00:50:25] For me.

[00:50:25] For like a week or so.

[00:50:26] Like it didn't feel like he was just trying to do a relationship thing or anything.

[00:50:30] I felt like this lasted too long because like I said, when we saw her find him, she was down on her luck.

[00:50:36] She was at the, like her at the lowest and stuff like that.

[00:50:38] By the time she shows up at Thanksgiving, she's in, she's good.

[00:50:41] That's, that's what I was basing the time jump off of.

[00:50:43] Like when she finds him, she's like, what am I going to do?

[00:50:46] I don't know.

[00:50:47] Like my friend wants me to quit this program, all of this stuff.

[00:50:50] By the time they link up at dinner for Thanksgiving with at mom's house, I guess.

[00:50:56] Um, she's like, Oh yeah, I've been in this program.

[00:50:58] Things are going well.

[00:50:59] You know, she's really trying to like shine on people at that point.

[00:51:02] And I just feel like the difference in her attitude showed me that there'd been some days that have gone by.

[00:51:07] Cause this lady barely wanted to live prior to this episode.

[00:51:10] Where were they go?

[00:51:11] Okay.

[00:51:11] So I think it was episode four that they, um, that Alex's fiance and friends were going on the bachelorette party.

[00:51:20] Do we have any idea where, like when they were going, where they were going?

[00:51:25] What's the weather?

[00:51:25] I'm trying to try to.

[00:51:27] A bachelorette party is still not that, that far from the wedding normally, but hers would have had hers was before Thanksgiving.

[00:51:35] So it was more than a month.

[00:51:37] That was a, that was a weird timing.

[00:51:39] Like most people I know have their, their bachelor bachelorette parties, like three to four weeks.

[00:51:44] But also they had a weird wedding timing with it being right around New Year's.

[00:51:48] So yeah, which is disrespectful.

[00:51:50] This is all very dumb.

[00:51:51] Don't do that.

[00:51:52] Do not have a wedding on New Year's.

[00:51:53] I've been to a New Year's wedding and it is so inconvenient.

[00:51:56] Have you?

[00:51:56] You showed up.

[00:51:58] It's nice when you get there, you realize like, this is what we doing tonight.

[00:52:02] Especially because the people whose wedding I went to, they, they did really nice.

[00:52:05] You know, they have fireworks, all that good stuff.

[00:52:07] But like a part of me was like, damn, it's not like I had plans, you know?

[00:52:10] I was like, I'm sorry.

[00:52:12] And then as somebody who just went to a beach destination wedding, him not getting on that

[00:52:18] flight.

[00:52:18] I'm like, first of all, the, the bride and the groom for destination weddings normally

[00:52:24] don't try and get to their destination a day before the wedding.

[00:52:27] They're normally there a week before because normally like, uh, the, like the week stay is

[00:52:33] like comp so that they can be there to do all of the wedding stuff or like, it's, it's comp,

[00:52:40] but they're paying for the whole fucking wedding.

[00:52:42] You know what I'm saying?

[00:52:43] So it's like, you know, she shows up.

[00:52:47] Wait.

[00:52:47] So she, she catfished her brother for way too long was where we started that conversation.

[00:52:53] That's the sentence.

[00:52:54] That's the tweet.

[00:52:55] Anyways, if she, even if she did that, that means that she kept her brother from cheating

[00:53:00] because hopefully that's what she was thinking.

[00:53:03] She was cheating with her brother.

[00:53:06] And she was emotionally cheating with him, but he had other people that he was talking

[00:53:10] to.

[00:53:11] This wasn't his first foray.

[00:53:12] I don't think I now y'all make me want to go back and watch.

[00:53:16] Cause I didn't think they were talking that long.

[00:53:18] And I did think that he was, he, he, he was definitely going on other dates.

[00:53:21] He was on a date in that first episode when she called him.

[00:53:23] Mm-hmm.

[00:53:24] They were all like, they were deep in conversation about family and we're getting

[00:53:30] sidetracked.

[00:53:31] All of it.

[00:53:32] The point is, Brian ain't shit.

[00:53:36] Y'all are over here talking about what she did.

[00:53:39] Wait, Mari.

[00:53:40] Hold on.

[00:53:40] She's a great character, Mari.

[00:53:41] We can't.

[00:53:42] She's her brother.

[00:53:44] Could we, could we ring the bell?

[00:53:45] Could you just go off on him, please?

[00:53:48] Have you done it yet?

[00:53:48] You guys go for it.

[00:53:50] Tell us why Brian sucks.

[00:53:51] While we're here.

[00:53:51] Brian sucks because he decided to marry this white woman.

[00:53:56] He decided to have these kids with these white women.

[00:53:58] He's the one who decided to build him up.

[00:54:01] Well, no, their mom, their mom was kind of messed up for that.

[00:54:04] The mom did that.

[00:54:05] Yeah.

[00:54:05] Them boy moms.

[00:54:07] Gotta watch out for them.

[00:54:08] Oh.

[00:54:10] Mari like, I'm now a boy and girl mom now so I can do it.

[00:54:13] How dare you?

[00:54:14] No, there's a, there's a, there's a difference between a mom who has a boy or a mom of a

[00:54:22] boy and a boy mom.

[00:54:24] Uh huh.

[00:54:24] He had a boy mom because once their dad died, his mom put all that pressure on Brian to like,

[00:54:31] take care of him.

[00:54:32] And Brian fake takes care of the mom and Mel, which again points to Mel not being shit.

[00:54:38] But.

[00:54:39] Brian ain't shit because he's cheating on his wife.

[00:54:43] And he's like, he gives the story about like, oh, he went to a wedding and somebody was like,

[00:54:48] Oh, stand up for black love.

[00:54:50] And he realized he could never have that.

[00:54:52] And so now he decides to cheat on his wife with nothing but black women.

[00:54:56] Sir, go away.

[00:54:58] He tried to have his black love.

[00:55:00] Which.

[00:55:01] Which was crazy, which I thought was so interesting how they introduced that because again,

[00:55:06] we saw him on a date with a black woman in that first episode.

[00:55:11] And then he, then he pops up with his, his white wife and we're like, oh, snap.

[00:55:16] Like, what's his white?

[00:55:18] Is her name Sarah?

[00:55:19] I feel bad.

[00:55:20] Yeah, I think it's Sarah.

[00:55:21] I have to say, I did not know her.

[00:55:23] I did.

[00:55:23] She is white.

[00:55:25] And by the way, I did write down on my notes because I, I didn't know her name for like

[00:55:29] five minutes of the episode five or whenever she was in it.

[00:55:34] And I'm just like the white, his white wife is like, I legitimately did not think they were

[00:55:37] going to give her a name.

[00:55:39] Yeah.

[00:55:40] I thought that would have been its own bit, you know?

[00:55:42] And, and I thought that he was, I thought he was just like a complete asshole, which I,

[00:55:46] I get because he's like shouldering the burden, but I love their dynamic in a sense of like

[00:55:53] them just hating each other.

[00:55:54] Like, I don't think you, you see that too often on shows where it's like a sibling relationship

[00:56:00] as adults, where they're like openly hostile, like hating each other.

[00:56:06] But in the middle of an argument, like after the Thanksgiving episode where they're, they're in that bar

[00:56:11] because she catfished him and she shows up to confront him.

[00:56:15] Like they go, they go from, they're like literally fighting to all of a sudden reminiscing about their childhood.

[00:56:22] Like that was, that was so crazy to me.

[00:56:25] Like it was like in a, in a, in a good way, because that, that's how stuff like that happens sometimes.

[00:56:31] You know what I'm saying?

[00:56:31] Like you're sitting here, you're arguing with somebody that with family, you're both really mad and heated, but

[00:56:38] something happens to the, to the effect of now you're reminiscing and now y'all are laughing.

[00:56:42] You're looking up and you're laughing and now you're, you're doing like the dozens on each other.

[00:56:47] It's like jabs, like the acceptable jabs now. It's like, it was, it was a very interesting scene.

[00:56:54] What did you think of that scene, Chappelle?

[00:56:56] It was funny because the conversation is really like them both one up in each other as if they,

[00:57:01] as if they were still beefing. Right.

[00:57:03] So it's like, you catfished me. And he's like, she's like, yeah, but you are a regular nigga

[00:57:07] that thinks you're extraordinary. And that's annoying.

[00:57:09] And he's like, you stole my identity. And she's like, well, you should have some empathy for me.

[00:57:14] He's like, you stole my identity. You know?

[00:57:17] So like having empathy for you as you're actively scamming in my name is wild.

[00:57:23] And so it was just back and forth, back and forth.

[00:57:25] And eventually they find themselves singing the Time Life album commercial, Matt.

[00:57:29] Yeah, that was weird.

[00:57:31] That was hilarious.

[00:57:33] That was hilarious.

[00:57:34] I knew exactly what was about to come next.

[00:57:36] Yeah, I was annoyed.

[00:57:38] I was annoyed the whole time because this man deflected his cheating to make it about all these other things.

[00:57:46] And it's like he, you know, he kind of came back to it, but he was just deflecting it.

[00:57:52] Like he was like, oh, but you stole my identity.

[00:57:53] I'm like, no, no, no.

[00:57:54] You are actively cheating on your wife and your kids by extension on Thanksgiving.

[00:58:00] Like, what are you doing?

[00:58:02] And he's crazy.

[00:58:03] You know, that was, it was insane.

[00:58:06] Yeah.

[00:58:07] Also, your brother, while you're sitting across from him at Thanksgiving dinner is crazy as well.

[00:58:11] Yeah, that is crazy.

[00:58:12] Like this is nuts.

[00:58:13] All of this is nuts.

[00:58:14] I just, when he said like, girl, I can send you nudes.

[00:58:17] I was like, you could have.

[00:58:19] Ew, that's disgusting.

[00:58:21] Like that's nasty.

[00:58:23] That's why you shouldn't send unsolicited nudes.

[00:58:25] You never know who's on the other end.

[00:58:27] You never know who's on the other end.

[00:58:30] You got, Matt.

[00:58:31] Wow.

[00:58:32] You seem like you have some, you have a story to tell?

[00:58:37] No, I don't have a story.

[00:58:39] I don't have a story.

[00:58:40] It feels like you have a story to tell.

[00:58:41] Let us know.

[00:58:41] I'm just like a little shocked because the thing is she found him on the app.

[00:58:48] Let's, I want to break this down.

[00:58:49] Why are you still doing?

[00:58:51] Why are we still?

[00:58:52] Can we move on?

[00:58:53] We can't move past that.

[00:58:55] This is the smallest part of this.

[00:58:58] He found him on the app with her.

[00:58:59] He found him on the app with her profile, but then she changed all the details of her profile.

[00:59:05] Out her way.

[00:59:06] So that she could match him.

[00:59:08] Yeah.

[00:59:08] Because I, cause the thing is like, I could imagine like, if I'm her, this is maybe where I would have left it.

[00:59:14] I would have, as myself, like as Mel swiped right on him.

[00:59:19] And then he sees her and he's like, Oh, did she see me on the app?

[00:59:25] Like that would be it, you know?

[00:59:26] Cause he probably would.

[00:59:28] But like, and then bring it up, you know, I wouldn't like do the whole catfish thing.

[00:59:32] I don't think she had to, she goes way too far is my point.

[00:59:36] She goes very far.

[00:59:38] You know, it's crazy because the excuse she used for turning down Alex was like, but he likes me, but what if he doesn't like me once I let down this facade, right?

[00:59:49] Man, you ain't had no problem keeping up that facade when you was catfishing your brother, you know what I'm saying?

[00:59:53] Like for that, you just living in, my brother had good chemistry, Mari.

[00:59:57] Like if they were simple, they were talking like, really didn't even bat an eyelash at this interaction.

[01:00:06] It's such a big deal.

[01:00:08] She emotionally cheating with her brother.

[01:00:09] Cause he says, I'm only cheating with these women because I want somebody to talk to about black stuff.

[01:00:14] Yeah.

[01:00:15] Yeah.

[01:00:16] Why not me?

[01:00:17] Yeah.

[01:00:17] Why not me?

[01:00:18] And he's like, cause y'all are my dependent.

[01:00:21] Y'all are my dependent.

[01:00:22] Yeah.

[01:00:23] That was funny.

[01:00:24] Texas catfish.

[01:00:25] But also, hey, how about, you know, a therapist?

[01:00:31] Why do women have to be your therapist?

[01:00:34] Look, she chose to be his therapist when she catfished him.

[01:00:37] Um, so.

[01:00:39] But it would have been another unsuspecting black woman if it wasn't.

[01:00:42] Yeah, it was her.

[01:00:43] Poor thing.

[01:00:44] No, she was legit.

[01:00:46] She was like, tell me about your feelings.

[01:00:48] How do you feel about your family?

[01:00:49] Like she really was going there and she wasn't getting paid for it either.

[01:00:53] No, doing free labor just so she could flirt with her brother is crazy.

[01:00:58] Um, so they end up approaching, you know, New Year's Day when this wedding is in a, she's graduating from management school.

[01:01:04] Terrence shows up at the graduation.

[01:01:06] Um, we talked about this a little bit, but.

[01:01:09] I'm rooting for them, y'all.

[01:01:11] I'm sorry.

[01:01:11] And call me a softie.

[01:01:13] Uh, if the alternative is her going and destroying Alex's, uh, engagement slash, uh, wedding.

[01:01:20] Um, then yeah, give me the, the Terrence Melissa relationship 10 times out of 10.

[01:01:26] Um, how did you think about this unfolding, Marta?

[01:01:29] Because we do get the moment where it does look there's a will day, won't they?

[01:01:32] Like they're, they're really leaning into the will day until she gets arrested for credit card fraud.

[01:01:36] Well, but even before that, he's at the graduation.

[01:01:40] Alex is there.

[01:01:40] Of course, Alex is forced to be there because he's the manager, but she gets stuck in an elevator.

[01:01:45] She's my absolute worst nightmare.

[01:01:47] With Patty.

[01:01:48] Wow.

[01:01:48] Really?

[01:01:49] With Patty.

[01:01:51] Even worse.

[01:01:52] Yes.

[01:01:52] Yes, Matt.

[01:01:54] Wow.

[01:01:55] Literally my worst nightmare.

[01:01:56] Oh my God.

[01:01:57] And she, she was hanging in like a G at first.

[01:01:59] And then all of a sudden she started spiraling.

[01:02:02] I was like, Oh, that's me.

[01:02:02] So like you, I'll commend her.

[01:02:05] She, she was hanging in there for, for a while, but yeah, they, they were in there stuck

[01:02:11] and they had to wait until they got the jaws of life.

[01:02:14] But because of that, she missed her graduation.

[01:02:15] She, she missed like the chance with Terrence and stuff like that.

[01:02:21] But because she was stuck in that elevator, it kind of set her back on her wanting to get

[01:02:27] on a plane to Hawaii.

[01:02:29] Like, I think we'll talk about it, but your first plane ride being like a 10 hour flight

[01:02:34] is just, I mean, yeah, it's a lot, but it's better than what she, she ended up doing later.

[01:02:43] So yeah.

[01:02:45] Yeah.

[01:02:45] Before we leave the elevator scene too much.

[01:02:48] Yeah.

[01:02:48] Patty is stuck in their elevator with Melissa.

[01:02:51] These people, they're, they're arch nemesis sees, nemesi, nemesis, nemesis.

[01:02:56] Yeah.

[01:02:56] They don't get along these two.

[01:02:59] And it comes out that Patty hates her not only for taking her spot in this management program,

[01:03:04] but also because from Patty's point of view, Melissa is sleeping with the boss and getting

[01:03:09] special treatment.

[01:03:10] And I was like, I mean, when you put it like that.

[01:03:13] Yeah.

[01:03:14] And also she said Alex was just getting over her.

[01:03:18] Like Patty also thinks that doesn't like how Mel treated Alex clearly.

[01:03:23] Mm hmm.

[01:03:24] Yes.

[01:03:25] Oh, gosh.

[01:03:27] You know what?

[01:03:28] This was one where I was like, you know what?

[01:03:29] Patty's making some points.

[01:03:31] I'm with her.

[01:03:32] Points were made.

[01:03:33] Points were made.

[01:03:34] And you know what?

[01:03:35] Patty is just trying to show up and do her job well.

[01:03:38] She's a stickler for the rules.

[01:03:41] And, you know, we don't, we don't really love her energy.

[01:03:45] But when is, when has Patty truly been wrong?

[01:03:48] You know what I mean?

[01:03:49] Now that we think about it in retrospect, maybe Patty's the true hero here.

[01:03:53] She could tell Melissa was trash.

[01:03:55] You know, like we come in and see these through Melissa's eyes.

[01:03:57] So we kind of like looking at like, girl, Patty always doing something.

[01:04:00] But I, by the end of this, I was like, well, Patty, Patty,

[01:04:02] Patty might've been right about some things.

[01:04:04] Yeah.

[01:04:06] Uh, and Patty ends up taking her to Terrence, who will then help her board a plane training

[01:04:11] simulator where they can walk her through it.

[01:04:14] This was romantic, right?

[01:04:16] This was a thing.

[01:04:17] No.

[01:04:17] Who knew that existed at air at the airport?

[01:04:20] Like what?

[01:04:20] A plane training similar simulator at the airport?

[01:04:24] Well, they gotta train the flight attendants.

[01:04:26] At the airport.

[01:04:27] At the airport?

[01:04:28] I don't know.

[01:04:30] I feel like that's a flight school.

[01:04:31] Like it's a separate building to do that.

[01:04:33] Yeah.

[01:04:34] Maybe, maybe.

[01:04:35] Yeah.

[01:04:36] I don't know.

[01:04:37] JFK is a big airport though.

[01:04:39] So you never know.

[01:04:40] You never know.

[01:04:41] Yeah, exactly.

[01:04:41] You don't, you don't know what's going on in these airports, but yeah, the, the whole

[01:04:44] flight simulator thing that was, can I just say before we get on like the real serious

[01:04:49] stuff, but Sean and Disha Dishon are hilarious.

[01:04:53] Yes.

[01:04:54] They, oh my God.

[01:04:56] The, the, the, that was that learn Waldorf of the show.

[01:04:59] They are, they are hilarious every time they're, they remind me of, um, can't when key and

[01:05:05] peel were, uh, uh, ducky and bunny and, uh, toy story for my, maybe all my parents know

[01:05:11] what I'm talking about there.

[01:05:12] But the funniest parts of toy story for our, our deck and bunny.

[01:05:17] Look it up.

[01:05:18] If you, if you don't know what I'm talking about.

[01:05:19] Well, damn.

[01:05:21] Yeah.

[01:05:22] Uh, in the simulator, uh, it to me just felt like this is going to be the moment, right?

[01:05:27] Like she's, how can she not see Terrence standing right there doing this romantic gesture for

[01:05:31] her?

[01:05:32] Um, but here comes Alex and he comes in late.

[01:05:35] He's just, I just showed up right in time.

[01:05:38] And immediately you see the light switch go off.

[01:05:40] She sees Alex and there it is again.

[01:05:42] She still loves this man, Matt.

[01:05:44] And, um, Terrence will tell us sometimes you can shoot your shot and make it, but it

[01:05:48] doesn't matter because they're rooting for the other team.

[01:05:50] He feels like he doesn't have a chance here.

[01:05:52] And, uh, for a while, Matt, I started to believe, yeah, maybe this is a lost cause.

[01:05:57] I mean, honestly, it might still be a lost cause depending on what her sentence is.

[01:06:03] Um, I, I feel like she is to me, Terrence did the most romantic thing possible.

[01:06:10] And to me, it was just so obvious.

[01:06:14] I mean, honestly, everyone, everyone was just so thoughtful, all doing this for her.

[01:06:20] Like they all got dressed in legit costumes, except for that.

[01:06:25] Um, the, the pilot guy who's, um, I don't remember the, uh, the guy who does Bob.

[01:06:31] That's Bob.

[01:06:32] Yeah.

[01:06:32] Bob Bob's burgers and whatever his name is, uh, John H. Benjamin.

[01:06:36] I want to say, but like, but otherwise they were all really good.

[01:06:40] Really locked in.

[01:06:41] And so in my mind, like sweetest moment ever.

[01:06:43] I will say, I, I mean, even the fact that Alex showed up late to me was good enough.

[01:06:51] So.

[01:06:53] I mean, she, she's obsessed with him.

[01:06:55] I get it.

[01:06:56] You know, we, we see that play out more and more, but you know, Terrence, I just feel like

[01:07:00] needs to be a little bit more direct with her because we saw what happened with the relationship

[01:07:06] with Alex, where she's like, I just don't think that you're ready to deal with the real

[01:07:11] me when you fully see me.

[01:07:12] And I think part of it too, is that she's just not like, maybe she just doesn't feel

[01:07:17] like she could be.

[01:07:20] Her attracted.

[01:07:22] Well, like attractive to that level.

[01:07:24] Cause Carlos, like, remember him?

[01:07:25] He was just very forward about everything.

[01:07:28] Terrence.

[01:07:28] A little bit more later.

[01:07:30] Yeah.

[01:07:31] Yeah.

[01:07:32] No, he's.

[01:07:32] But yeah, but I, I, I agree, but it's also like Alex keeps turning up.

[01:07:37] So I like how they did this because it's like, from her point of view, he keeps coming here.

[01:07:42] So he must still have feelings for her too.

[01:07:45] Like.

[01:07:45] Yeah.

[01:07:46] But, but then once you like stop and think about it, it's kind of like, or was he just

[01:07:50] being a friend?

[01:07:52] Yeah.

[01:07:52] Or, you know, and then, I mean, and then again, could you blame him for having feelings?

[01:07:56] She broke up with him.

[01:07:57] You know, it's not like he's like left her high and dry.

[01:08:00] Now he's playing in her face.

[01:08:01] Like she played in his face, you know?

[01:08:05] It's tough.

[01:08:05] Yeah.

[01:08:05] But even if like, if, if he has feelings for her, like, I mean, he's kind of trash too.

[01:08:12] Like, look at him with his getting ready for his wedding, getting ready for his wedding.

[01:08:17] Yeah.

[01:08:18] It's a lot of mixed signals on his, his, it's like inadvertently so.

[01:08:24] I mean, we, it went with the hindsight being 2020.

[01:08:28] It's, it's, it's, um, inadvertent.

[01:08:35] Yeah.

[01:08:45] Yeah.

[01:08:46] We saw him at the gate and then he misses the flight too.

[01:08:50] So when he tells her that he like missed the flight on purpose, I was like, yeah, duh, we

[01:08:54] said, we seen you at the gate and you didn't get on the plane.

[01:08:57] And what, what, what, what else would she think of about him not getting on that, that plane?

[01:09:03] Also, sir, what do you mean you didn't get on your plane again?

[01:09:06] You're already cutting it close, getting on a plane to Hawaii.

[01:09:11] Yeah.

[01:09:12] But the day before your wedding.

[01:09:15] So now I'm trying to do it.

[01:09:16] You couldn't rebook your damn plane.

[01:09:17] Yeah.

[01:09:18] 12 hours before your wedding.

[01:09:18] Like he couldn't change the flight.

[01:09:20] What's he doing?

[01:09:22] Right.

[01:09:22] What is he doing?

[01:09:23] That was trash.

[01:09:23] And I thought that whole seed, Mari, after he missed his flight, when she's in the restaurant

[01:09:28] and she sees him, I thought it was like some sort of fever dream hallucination.

[01:09:34] Like I legitimately did not believe that was real.

[01:09:37] He was like, there's no way these people on a day long date.

[01:09:40] No.

[01:09:40] The day before his wedding.

[01:09:42] No.

[01:09:43] Okay.

[01:09:43] I didn't believe it until the end of the episode.

[01:09:45] And I'm like, oh, wow.

[01:09:46] That was real.

[01:09:48] Damn.

[01:09:48] On a friend date.

[01:09:50] It's funny because her idea was to show up walking a lot, a different world and just

[01:09:56] be like, you know, stop, stop.

[01:09:58] I love you.

[01:09:59] All that kind of stuff.

[01:10:00] And then we haven't talked about this person at all, but she made a friend named Ali.

[01:10:04] Yeah.

[01:10:04] Ali got good sense.

[01:10:05] Ali said, hey, don't do that.

[01:10:08] Yeah.

[01:10:09] Don't.

[01:10:09] I don't know none of these people's names.

[01:10:11] Yeah.

[01:10:12] Don't.

[01:10:12] She says, don't do that.

[01:10:13] Hey, we're not.

[01:10:14] We're not doing that because you're going to make yourself look awful because the family's

[01:10:17] not going to support that no matter what happens.

[01:10:19] You did a good job.

[01:10:20] Her family is there as well.

[01:10:22] They go whoop your ass like somebody is going to carry you about it there.

[01:10:25] Why don't you, you know, try to do this before the actual events of the wedding?

[01:10:31] And I was like, thank God, somebody was.

[01:10:33] Somebody said it.

[01:10:34] Yeah.

[01:10:34] Somebody stepped in.

[01:10:36] But you're right, Matt.

[01:10:37] Go to Hawaii.

[01:10:39] Yeah.

[01:10:39] Alice and Melissa spend the entire day together.

[01:10:42] She even tries a Rangoon, you know, and that almost literally killed her before.

[01:10:47] And so he's got her, you know, really stepping outside our comfort zone.

[01:10:51] And it seems like, you know, they might be rekindling.

[01:10:55] She's apologizing for the way she reacted to the I love you.

[01:10:58] He missed his flight because he needed to take some time.

[01:11:02] Like it's feeling like, oh, my God, I was rooting against him so bad.

[01:11:06] Yeah.

[01:11:06] Chemistry was so good that I was like, well, I mean, yeah, he not trying to get married.

[01:11:10] We did this is the time.

[01:11:12] And then they kiss.

[01:11:14] No, she kissed.

[01:11:15] She kissed him.

[01:11:16] Wait, before we get to that, like I really I was like at first, like when they were talking, I was like, oh, my God, are they going to sleep together before this man goes on to get married?

[01:11:26] Yeah.

[01:11:27] Because the chemistry was on parts.

[01:11:28] But I just want to say this is this is that episode.

[01:11:32] Like this was that insecure episode.

[01:11:34] Like, yeah, or Lawrence and Issa clearing the air reconnecting.

[01:11:39] Like this is that episode that we see a lot in like almost all sitcoms, comedies like TV shows, especially with the will there one won't they stuff?

[01:11:51] It's always they go out on that one date, that one magical day, everything and everything's perfect.

[01:11:57] But and normally it's like it always feels like the man is kind of trying to seduce and entice the woman.

[01:12:06] Yeah.

[01:12:06] But this date felt the opposite.

[01:12:08] It felt like Mel was really like trying to pull him in.

[01:12:12] I mean, the chemistry was was mutual.

[01:12:15] But you know what I mean?

[01:12:16] Like when they're at the karaoke bar and they're singing and then all of a sudden the world stops.

[01:12:22] Well, it literally stops for them.

[01:12:24] It literally stops for them.

[01:12:25] And it looks like it's from his point of view, because he's the one who's like he's the one who's just stopped admiring her.

[01:12:32] She's still like singing to him and stuff like that.

[01:12:35] I was like I thought that was a really interesting, like gender role flip.

[01:12:40] But it kind of felt to me like it felt like a different energy, even though he was like definitely participating.

[01:12:46] And then they get on this pond and like Chappelle says, they kiss.

[01:12:51] And then.

[01:12:52] Yeah, Matt, she kisses him.

[01:12:55] Yeah, the fireworks go off.

[01:12:57] Sarah Bareilles is singing gravity in the background.

[01:13:00] Like this is everything.

[01:13:02] This is one of those moments where this is everything.

[01:13:04] But if you really stop to think about it, this woman just decided to ask this man to destroy his entire life.

[01:13:11] And I don't I don't have a I don't have much of a problem with that.

[01:13:14] I kind of do.

[01:13:15] But the bigger problem I have, the bigger problem I have is like he was.

[01:13:20] What was he even doing?

[01:13:22] He should have been in Hawaii.

[01:13:24] Yeah.

[01:13:25] Why are you on this friend date?

[01:13:28] You can't have friends, Matt.

[01:13:30] A date.

[01:13:31] Not your ex.

[01:13:32] Not your ex.

[01:13:32] But why was she invited to the wedding?

[01:13:35] Yeah, that's a better question.

[01:13:36] That's a great question because she's a maybe, you know, as I said, because she's a co-worker.

[01:13:40] But let's be real.

[01:13:41] Patty was not invited to the wedding.

[01:13:43] Right.

[01:13:43] They said this had been two years since they had briefly dated too, right?

[01:13:47] Yeah.

[01:13:48] I mean, and they're close.

[01:13:49] Like they're they're close.

[01:13:50] They're co-worker friends, you know, and they were exes.

[01:13:53] But I get it.

[01:13:54] But I just like the vibes.

[01:13:57] When they had the magical kiss.

[01:13:58] Let me just say this.

[01:14:00] I the fireworks were going off and I was like, oh, oh, no, no, no.

[01:14:06] This is not it.

[01:14:08] This is not it.

[01:14:09] Same.

[01:14:09] Like I was so uncomfortable.

[01:14:11] So I kind of been like pissed at both of them for for that because it just didn't need

[01:14:16] to go that far.

[01:14:19] And it and that's where it ended, which was the funny part about it.

[01:14:22] I loved it.

[01:14:23] It was like a then a record scratch.

[01:14:25] It's like.

[01:14:26] Yeah, I appreciate it.

[01:14:27] I appreciate the record scratch that followed.

[01:14:30] Yeah, for sure.

[01:14:31] I'm with you, Mari.

[01:14:32] Well, that's the thing.

[01:14:33] When the fireworks happened, I was like, damn, they really doing this.

[01:14:37] And then when I heard Sara Bareilles, I said, wait a minute.

[01:14:39] Why this song?

[01:14:40] Because gravity is one of them songs, Mari, that you talk about like pretty wings where

[01:14:45] it sounds cute.

[01:14:46] But the lyrics is kind of like this is an on again off again relationship that you just

[01:14:51] can't drag yourself away from.

[01:14:53] It's very much like I keep getting pulled back to you.

[01:14:56] Something I'm going to bring back to you.

[01:14:58] Like that's that's what she talked about.

[01:15:00] But that's not like a love story.

[01:15:01] That is like I'm trying to get away from you and pull, but I can't.

[01:15:06] And so the moments later, he's asking her, OK, you feel this way, then do it.

[01:15:12] Say I love you.

[01:15:13] Tell me that you love me right now.

[01:15:16] That was the shocker for me.

[01:15:18] She couldn't even say it, Mari.

[01:15:19] Yeah, he was so like in sense that she kissed him.

[01:15:23] I was like, oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

[01:15:26] Like, yeah, because I mean, he was throwing them signals to I thought he was I thought he

[01:15:31] was down the clown.

[01:15:32] And then when she said he was like, no, he was like, why would you do this?

[01:15:36] And she's like, oh, I'm sorry.

[01:15:38] And he was he was like, why would you wait till now?

[01:15:41] Which is true.

[01:15:41] Like it's been two years.

[01:15:43] Why would you wait right before he's about to get married and all of that?

[01:15:46] And they're going back and forth about that.

[01:15:48] And then he and then he finally and she and then she says, tell me you don't love me, which is.

[01:15:53] I mean, that is like straight out of romance.

[01:15:57] No, no one.

[01:15:58] I mean, I felt like this was a flip.

[01:16:00] This was tell me you love me.

[01:16:03] But that's what I'm saying.

[01:16:05] Yeah, she said though.

[01:16:06] She said the thing that everybody says first, like, yeah, just tell me you don't love me.

[01:16:11] And right.

[01:16:11] And it'll be done, which is what we always see.

[01:16:14] Yeah.

[01:16:15] And then he hit her with the uno reverse.

[01:16:16] And that's what I was like.

[01:16:18] Oh, yeah.

[01:16:19] And I love that.

[01:16:20] Like, that's what I'm saying.

[01:16:21] Like, all of this was done in a way that you think it's the it's going to be what you expect.

[01:16:27] And it was just completely unexpected.

[01:16:30] But here's my thing.

[01:16:32] I don't know that this man went through with his wedding.

[01:16:36] Well, I don't know.

[01:16:37] We won't know if Maury has her way.

[01:16:38] We won't have a season two.

[01:16:40] Because.

[01:16:42] I'm messing with you.

[01:16:43] No, we don't.

[01:16:44] That's part of the cliffhanger, right?

[01:16:45] We don't know how this affects him.

[01:16:48] We just know that he pushes back against it initially.

[01:16:50] Right.

[01:16:51] Because she can't even say the words.

[01:16:52] He comes.

[01:16:52] He lands on.

[01:16:54] I'm going to marry someone who will allow me to love her.

[01:16:57] And I was like, if nothing else, that's a bare minimum that you can do for yourself.

[01:17:01] I mean, you could.

[01:17:02] You know what I'm saying?

[01:17:02] Sure.

[01:17:03] Or you could just like not.

[01:17:04] You could just.

[01:17:05] Did you just.

[01:17:06] Yeah.

[01:17:06] You could just not get married right now.

[01:17:08] He loves her.

[01:17:09] He does.

[01:17:10] Does he?

[01:17:11] He's not on the plane.

[01:17:13] He said he did not get on that plane.

[01:17:15] Can you imagine?

[01:17:17] You know how pissed I would be.

[01:17:19] You know how pissed I'd be.

[01:17:20] A day before your wedding.

[01:17:21] If I booked my trip to Hawaii and then they canceled the wedding.

[01:17:25] I mean, or better yet.

[01:17:26] Why would you get a lot?

[01:17:27] Better yet.

[01:17:28] They go to the.

[01:17:28] I'd be pissed.

[01:17:29] I'd be pissed because I can't get my refund.

[01:17:31] I don't know if I get a refund.

[01:17:32] Why would you get a refund?

[01:17:33] I'm on a break, Matt.

[01:17:34] Go to Hawaii.

[01:17:35] Get a vacation, Matt.

[01:17:36] Oh, yeah.

[01:17:37] That's not destination weddings.

[01:17:39] Listen.

[01:17:39] No, that's a good point.

[01:17:40] I got a destination wedding I got to go to in December.

[01:17:42] And whether they get married or not, I'm going to be there.

[01:17:44] Okay.

[01:17:44] Exactly.

[01:17:46] Like.

[01:17:47] Shit.

[01:17:47] They just opened your schedule up.

[01:17:48] Now you can go snorkeling.

[01:17:49] But on New Year's Eve, like I could have got, I could just go like any other day, you know,

[01:17:54] like.

[01:17:54] I mean, New Year's Eve is a perfect time to take a vacation to something tropical.

[01:17:58] Yeah.

[01:17:59] Probably more expensive on New Year's Eve.

[01:18:02] I don't know.

[01:18:02] I'm just saying.

[01:18:03] I'm just saying now the wedding, the wedding better, the marriage better work out because

[01:18:08] people paid a lot for those flights for those wedding gifts for that toaster for that set

[01:18:15] of the set of little glasses that people like to put in their wedding registry, you know,

[01:18:20] the little like champagne flutes, maybe all that, you know, I don't I need the wedding

[01:18:25] to I need the marriage to work out and I need the wedding to go on so that I feel fulfilled

[01:18:30] because I just spent thousands of dollars on celebrating your love.

[01:18:34] So you better love me.

[01:18:35] But did you not have a good vacation?

[01:18:37] Like, you know that you don't just fly in for the wedding.

[01:18:40] I was hung over half the time and the resort that you made me stay at was way too expensive.

[01:18:46] So you made me stay at.

[01:18:48] But that's the whole point of destination weddings.

[01:18:51] If you can't afford it, then you don't go and it saves them money.

[01:18:54] But I want to.

[01:18:55] I love love Mari.

[01:18:57] Okay, man.

[01:18:58] I'm not going to go.

[01:18:59] Just don't ignore the signs because the TSA agent was offering people $3,000 to give

[01:19:04] up their flight, their seat on the plane and take a later flight.

[01:19:07] I was dying because I've been in this.

[01:19:09] I ain't that dumb bitch.

[01:19:10] I've been in this spot before where I've been sitting there thinking like, dang,

[01:19:16] $800 does sound good.

[01:19:17] I can show up late.

[01:19:19] And then sitting there like, nah.

[01:19:21] And then I thought about it again.

[01:19:22] It's like, maybe.

[01:19:23] I think last time I went to New York.

[01:19:25] Yeah, there was a delay and they were saying like, okay, look, we need somebody to get

[01:19:30] off this plane.

[01:19:30] We'll give you $800.

[01:19:32] And I sat there and I was like,

[01:19:34] Like you were on the actual plane already.

[01:19:35] Oh no, we were, I was sitting, uh, we were waiting to board and they were like, we need

[01:19:39] somebody to take, to agree to take a later flight.

[01:19:41] And I was sitting there thinking $800.

[01:19:44] Nah, they upped it to a thousand.

[01:19:46] I got up when I got to that.

[01:19:48] That woman said, I'm sorry.

[01:19:50] You just missed it.

[01:19:51] I was like, I, I, you take too long.

[01:19:54] So this, this felt like it hit really close to home.

[01:19:57] Um, but yeah, she's ignoring all the signs from God.

[01:20:00] Obviously, um, she eventually does catch on because God is yelling at her and cursing

[01:20:04] at her as well.

[01:20:05] Um, so there's a lot going on in these last few moments of the show.

[01:20:09] Mari accidentally aired her brother out for cheating.

[01:20:13] Yeah.

[01:20:14] I just want to say as a fellow nervous flyer, I've, I've given out the tips to how to fly

[01:20:22] as a nervous flyer.

[01:20:24] If you think what's bad about your first flight being a 10 hour flight to Hawaii.

[01:20:30] Thank you.

[01:20:31] What's worse would be your first flight being four different flights.

[01:20:36] Right.

[01:20:36] Because she asked Hazel from the grassy shout out to Hazel from the grass.

[01:20:40] Oh my God.

[01:20:40] Was it really her?

[01:20:42] Yeah.

[01:20:42] Oh, wow.

[01:20:43] I didn't even.

[01:20:44] Wow.

[01:20:45] As the gate agent.

[01:20:47] She, she asked her to, to book her on a flight so that she barely gets there.

[01:20:51] So she went from New York to Charlotte.

[01:20:54] It was going to, it was supposed to be Charlotte to Atlanta, Atlanta to like Miami, then Miami

[01:21:00] to, or, or, or no Atlanta to, to Dallas and then Dallas to Hawaii.

[01:21:05] Why would you sign up for four flights?

[01:21:07] That's even worse.

[01:21:08] Uh, again, tips for people.

[01:21:12] The, the, the places you have the most chance of dying on a flight is takeoff and landing.

[01:21:18] So if you do a nonstop, there's only two chances of you dying as opposed to.

[01:21:24] Yeah.

[01:21:25] Yeah.

[01:21:25] Hold on.

[01:21:26] Let me also just point out that.

[01:21:28] And it's so funny.

[01:21:29] Cause there's a point in maybe like episode five where she has her headphones on.

[01:21:34] And I feel like there's like something she's listening to where they're like, just so you

[01:21:39] know, when it comes to air travel, air travels actually safer than, and then it like cuts

[01:21:44] off.

[01:21:44] Cause, but literally it's like, look in the U S like commercial planes are not crashing.

[01:21:51] Oh my God.

[01:21:52] That's my style.

[01:21:53] Knock on some wood, Matt, please.

[01:21:55] What's the last point?

[01:21:56] Tell me the last time Mari.

[01:21:57] Come on.

[01:21:58] It's rare.

[01:21:59] Matt's not wrong.

[01:22:00] It is.

[01:22:01] You're way more likely to die in a plane crash.

[01:22:03] You're more likely to like die walking to your mailbox than you are on a plane.

[01:22:11] Oh, thanks.

[01:22:11] It's very true.

[01:22:13] I mean, but then if you really think about it, it's just the odds anyway, because I

[01:22:16] mean, how often you're walking to, you know, you're in a car, you know, just like just numbers

[01:22:20] wise, you're in a car at least 15 times more than you're ever on a plane, at least

[01:22:24] for most people.

[01:22:25] And so, you know, it's, it's there, you know, do you have the statistic?

[01:22:29] It's supposed to make you feel better.

[01:22:30] I don't think it makes a lot of people feel better.

[01:22:32] Like, well, I'm probably going down the plane.

[01:22:34] She had a good flight.

[01:22:35] She had a moment of turbulence where she panicked, but then it was all good.

[01:22:40] Sorry.

[01:22:41] The flight is too many.

[01:22:46] Her face.

[01:22:48] Yeah.

[01:22:50] Oh my God.

[01:22:52] I hate people like that because it really, that's how you get me.

[01:22:56] Resting scared.

[01:22:59] Resting scared.

[01:23:00] Resting scared.

[01:23:01] Yeah.

[01:23:02] Um, but she makes it.

[01:23:03] She ends up landing, uh, and, and waiting for her.

[01:23:07] It's Terrence.

[01:23:08] We're about to have our big happy ending that we all waited for.

[01:23:11] It was always Terrence.

[01:23:12] It was supposed to be Terrence all along, blah, blah, blah.

[01:23:15] It was, guess what?

[01:23:15] It might not be because she gets arrested.

[01:23:17] And now we have to figure out what's next.

[01:23:20] Um, she's arrested for credit card fraud.

[01:23:22] So she will be going to jail.

[01:23:24] Um, and identity theft.

[01:23:26] And I think that larceny.

[01:23:28] Yeah.

[01:23:29] She accidentally aired out her brother's business on the car.

[01:23:33] I don't know why he had her on.

[01:23:35] I would speak a phone in the car.

[01:23:38] Yeah.

[01:23:39] So no, well, but it was a wife.

[01:23:41] Okay.

[01:23:42] It's so it was a, okay.

[01:23:43] What I think happened.

[01:23:45] Well, she, I feel like she left a message.

[01:23:47] Cause it was like the playing with the little, like, it was a message.

[01:23:51] Yeah.

[01:23:52] He listened to it.

[01:23:53] Like autoplay.

[01:23:53] I don't know if it autoplayed or something.

[01:23:55] They didn't have a conversation.

[01:23:56] You know what I'm saying?

[01:23:57] Like she, she popped in and popped out.

[01:24:00] Yeah.

[01:24:01] Yeah.

[01:24:01] Because she was using her phone on the flight.

[01:24:03] Like, which was another thing.

[01:24:05] I was like, what?

[01:24:06] Yeah.

[01:24:07] That's illegal.

[01:24:07] That is illegal though.

[01:24:09] But anyways.

[01:24:10] Yeah.

[01:24:11] But anyways, either way, she aired his business.

[01:24:15] Now all we got is the wife looking at him.

[01:24:17] Like the kids were in the car too, weren't they?

[01:24:19] Like that's crazy.

[01:24:20] They didn't hear it.

[01:24:20] They were playing like Roblox or Minecraft.

[01:24:24] Definitely heard it.

[01:24:25] Like they did not.

[01:24:26] And we'll have to wait to season two to find out what it all means.

[01:24:28] Right.

[01:24:29] So we have the, the, the marriage stuff.

[01:24:31] Obviously Alex's wedding.

[01:24:33] Does it happen?

[01:24:34] Does it work out?

[01:24:35] Cause he drove off.

[01:24:36] Cause he drove off.

[01:24:36] Right.

[01:24:37] She goes to jail, you know?

[01:24:39] So are she going to be getting out anytime soon?

[01:24:41] What's this like for her?

[01:24:42] Uh, is her brother going to press charges?

[01:24:44] Because he probably thinks his sister threw him under the bus.

[01:24:46] Uh, and we know they don't even like each other like that.

[01:24:48] Um, you know, so there's something there as well.

[01:24:50] Um, the, the infidelity of it all.

[01:24:53] This is a conversation that they have to have.

[01:24:54] Will her and Terrence even work out?

[01:24:56] Does Terrence want to be with a criminal?

[01:24:58] You know, um, Rory is back as well.

[01:25:01] What does that even mean for him?

[01:25:02] Um, we kind of just kind of gloss over the Laurie, Rory storyline.

[01:25:05] Storyline.

[01:25:06] I didn't like it.

[01:25:07] I will just say this.

[01:25:08] I felt like it was a waste.

[01:25:09] Um, he was out of the show for like the last four episodes.

[01:25:12] Yeah.

[01:25:13] Like I feel like it was, it didn't matter.

[01:25:14] Like they really like laid a foundation that these two people are codependent and then

[01:25:18] gave them four episodes apart and then brought them back.

[01:25:20] Like, okay, we're not that codependent actually.

[01:25:22] I was like, okay, nevermind.

[01:25:23] It was like, like he helped get her out of the elevator and he knew where she would be

[01:25:29] at.

[01:25:29] Yeah.

[01:25:29] And the flight simulator, but he didn't want her to know that he had helped.

[01:25:34] And all we got was they, they, they did their little truth thing, which is something

[01:25:38] from an insecure.

[01:25:39] Did you notice that?

[01:25:40] Yes.

[01:25:40] I mean, it was in the hotel where they they say truth truth and they, they say what they

[01:25:44] say.

[01:25:46] Um, but it was just like, it was, I mean, and he got coast by coastal Bay there.

[01:25:51] That's what I'm saying.

[01:25:52] Like, I feel like these characters deserved a little bit more because I feel like if there

[01:25:56] was more episodes, we definitely would have got a more fleshed out Rory.

[01:26:00] We would have gotten more characters like the, the, the, the other white guy that works

[01:26:05] in the, in with them.

[01:26:07] Like the big gay one.

[01:26:09] Yeah.

[01:26:11] Well, I'm just, I don't know.

[01:26:13] And, uh, and more, more of the woman who formerly played Trina, like, and then Terrence's

[01:26:19] girlfriend was there and gone the next episode.

[01:26:22] Man, these characters deserve more, more episodes.

[01:26:25] Yeah, for sure.

[01:26:27] And hopefully we will get that for season two, whenever it comes, you know, like, let's,

[01:26:30] let's keep our fingers crossed.

[01:26:31] Um, but I do agree with Mari.

[01:26:33] This was good.

[01:26:34] This was eight episodes where it was good.

[01:26:35] If you tell me this was a mini series and it's over, I would be sad because I want

[01:26:38] more story, but also give Natasha Rothwell more opportunities to tell more stories.

[01:26:43] How about that?

[01:26:43] Um, and I'll be there for whatever that is.

[01:26:46] Uh, but this was so much fun.

[01:26:48] I just reliving it, talking through, talking through with y'all was so much fun too.

[01:26:52] It made me want to watch it again.

[01:26:54] Um, yeah.

[01:26:55] So definitely check out how to dial on.

[01:26:57] If you listen to all of this, I know you've probably already watched it, but let us know

[01:26:59] what you think in the comments.

[01:27:00] Let us know.

[01:27:01] Uh, and let us know if Mari is tripping for not wanting a season two.

[01:27:04] How about that?

[01:27:05] Yeah.

[01:27:05] How dare she?

[01:27:06] But for the rest of us, um, we need to figure out where to write, like which, uh, white

[01:27:11] TV executive to send letters to.

[01:27:14] Oh, to get them to pick this up.

[01:27:16] Yeah.

[01:27:18] Yeah.

[01:27:18] Mr. Hulu.

[01:27:19] Yeah.

[01:27:20] Mr. Walter Hulu.

[01:27:22] Exactly.

[01:27:23] Uh, Matt Scott, thank you for being here with us.

[01:27:25] I'm honored to be here.

[01:27:27] This has been a lot of fun and, uh, I'm going to miss the show.

[01:27:31] I'm going to miss talking with you about the show, but yeah, well, I'll be back for

[01:27:35] season two.

[01:27:36] I'll be back.

[01:27:37] I'll be back.

[01:27:37] Come back before then it's spooky.

[01:27:38] We still have not done anything scary yet.

[01:27:41] Mari here on recap kickback.

[01:27:42] It's time.

[01:27:42] I think we got to find something spooky to talk about.

[01:27:44] Yeah.

[01:27:45] I mean, it, it, it's not our fault that like, you know, uh, October's first two, like the

[01:27:52] two weeks of the fell weird so that we've, we've already done two episodes.

[01:27:58] It's fine.

[01:27:59] It's fine.

[01:27:59] It's fine.

[01:28:00] We still got like three more weeks.

[01:28:02] So yeah.

[01:28:02] And there's some horror in here too.

[01:28:04] And how to die alone.

[01:28:05] It's about death, right?

[01:28:07] Yeah.

[01:28:07] And getting catfished by your sister is pretty horrific as well.

[01:28:11] Matt Scott.

[01:28:12] Yeah.

[01:28:12] Where can people find you and keep up with you when you're not here on recap kickback

[01:28:16] hanging out with us?

[01:28:17] Well, I'm glad you asked.

[01:28:19] You could find me at Matt Scott G W on the different socials and all.

[01:28:24] And again, like, just thank you to everyone who's tuned in and tweeted and all the things

[01:28:29] about this.

[01:28:30] Uh, you could find me over.

[01:28:31] I'm by the way, I'm like, wait, which podcast are we on right now?

[01:28:34] Cause you could also find me and Chappelle and Mari, uh, along with pod daddy Rob over

[01:28:39] on nothing but Netflix.

[01:28:40] I'm sure Chappelle will plug that.

[01:28:43] Where we talk about Mr.

[01:28:44] McMahon.

[01:28:45] Uh, Chappelle has probably already mentioned this, but we will be on crime scene with Mari.

[01:28:50] I'm sure Mari will plug that.

[01:28:52] Uh, and one thing I'm going to plug, which, uh, reach out to me again, Matt Scott G W.

[01:28:58] If you want to be part of it is for my Philly people.

[01:29:00] We are going to be hosting a premiere event, um, later this October in Philly at, uh, the

[01:29:07] Landmark Fritz theater all around a project called I stand survivor.

[01:29:12] Kage on, uh, presented by R H A P.

[01:29:14] So reach out, uh, because soon that link will be public, but I could, I could slip you

[01:29:19] the link and get you, get you, and you have to pay for your ticket, but I could still slip

[01:29:22] you the link to pay for the ticket.

[01:29:23] So that's where you could find me Chappelle.

[01:29:26] Thanks for asking.

[01:29:27] No, and thank you for being here.

[01:29:29] I'm in that documentary or that movie.

[01:29:31] So check it out.

[01:29:32] Documentary future award.

[01:29:34] Is it documentary?

[01:29:34] Oh, sure.

[01:29:35] It'll be on my IMD page.

[01:29:37] Um, you guys carry in the torch for the, I love series and the, I make it happy.

[01:29:48] It's not.

[01:29:48] I love the nineties.

[01:29:49] We don't want to get sued.

[01:29:50] VH1 has nothing to do with this.

[01:29:52] Um, but it is the, I stand series.

[01:30:27] uh, it always escapes my mind as soon as it's about to come.

[01:30:30] You don't ever know what you're talking about.

[01:30:32] No, it's just.

[01:30:37] Like it was something.

[01:30:39] I don't know.

[01:30:40] It's like, cause it's like, as soon as I'm about to say it, like my mind is.

[01:30:44] It just goes completely blank about what it is.

[01:30:49] Um, but we talked about, uh, into the fire.

[01:30:52] Um, the lost daughter.

[01:30:55] It was great.
