[00:01:19] Gutes für alle. What's up, fam? Welcome back again to Recap Kickback presents The Vampire Lestat.

[00:01:46] Season 1 of The Vampire Lestat. Technically Season 3 of Interview with the Vampire. But this is Episode 2 called Tolino. And with me to talk about The Vampire Lestat, my co-host in all things Black, Entertainment, Media, Music and News. It's Mari Forth. Mari, welcome back. Hey, we're back. And again, how do we end up talking about like mother, son, and test? Like how did this? We did twice on this podcast.

[00:02:15] Yeah. Yeah, we did. You know, I think we gotta blame you. And hear me out. Wait. Hear me out. Just hear me out. Just hear me out. Just hear me out. Let's not. I'm not gonna hear you out. Just, just, just, come on. Just, just, just entertain it. Let's just entertain it. So, we do talk about House of the Dragon, which is very incesty. Very, very incesty. The whole universe is incesty. Yeah.

[00:02:40] And we talk about Interview with the Vampire based on the premise that Mari is a vampire girlie. And she's an expert. Mari, why do your, why do all your interests intercept at like incest? Excuse me. How come, what, let's unpack. I could have sworn that you were the one who begged me to watch Interview with the Vampire. Yes, but based on your interest in vampires. But you begged me to do so.

[00:03:08] Based on your already, your book collection. You can't put this on me. This is on you. I'll take House of the Dragon. But, but, but, even though that was a made up scene too, they didn't have to do that. They didn't have to do that. They didn't have to do that. They didn't have to do that. Yeah. Yeah. We, we talk about some freaky stuff here, but yeah, we, we're going to get into the Vampire List at episode two and more.

[00:03:38] But first, Mari, of course, we have to welcome everybody back to Recap Kickback. This summer is going to be jam packed here on Recap Kickback. Obviously, I'm still talking about the flavor of love cinematic universe with Chantel. We just did the recap of Charm School, the Charm School Recap, semester recap episode. So we are one episode away from the finale. We still got the reunion. Then we're going to do some bonus coverage of Charm School, watching the flavor of love

[00:04:05] Charm School girls on the Tyra show and other various opinions. I mean, appearances. Yeah. And we're going to probably, of course, we'll have Matt Scott on to talk about that. Then we have the next iteration, which I won't mention in case certain people who are not spoiled are listening to this. And then, Mari, next week, well, shortly after you hear this episode, we will be talking about the aforementioned House of the Dragon. I'm so excited, man. I'm so excited. We're back at it.

[00:04:35] We're back at it again. It only took another two years. Like, why do you make people wait two, two and a half, almost three years for eight episodes of a show? Eight episodes. And we know you've been had this. You've been had it. So it's like, you're just doing it just to do it now. But whatever. I'm excited. It's exciting to root for Team Black. You mean Team Green?

[00:05:04] Team Black and Team Green. Oh, so, yes. If you are looking at us on YouTube, which you should be, like, why aren't you? Why not? We're holding custom cups made by me, both representing either Team Black or Team Green. If you want your own, just up and down. Just up and down. Yeah, Lava Cup. You know I got the ADHD. Don't shake it. Look at the whole list.

[00:05:34] If you want your own House of the Dragon cup, you can go to maricraftstomuch.bigcartel.com. Choose your house. Represent your house. That link will be up once you see this. Also, if you want to just customize anything, I can throw anything on a cup. I can, you know, the Knicks just won. If you want a blue and green cup, let me know. I did. Blue and orange.

[00:06:04] What did I say? Blue and green, my bad. Blue and orange, yes. You know, basketball, yay. Anyway, if you want your kids on a cup, do that. You know, I can do it all. So just head on over to maricraftstomuch.bigcartel.com. See what I got over there. And, you know, have fun. Order something from me. That's a way to support. That's always fun. Yeah. And so support the podcast, buy the cup, and then enjoy our coverage of House of the Dragon

[00:06:32] because, like, we have a Dragon expert here with Mari having read all the books and being very interested in stories of incest. And then also we have- So make sure you check that out. And then if you want to support the podcast in other ways, you can tip directly through YouTube during our live stream and premieres. And every contribution helps us grow the podcast so we can make more content for you. And so we really do appreciate all the people who have. Big shout out to all of y'all.

[00:07:02] And, you know, as long as you want- As long as you're listening and sharing it, then, you know, what else could we ask for? So, Mari, last week we left off the vampire Lestat with the big shocker that Lestat was not texting Louis all episode. He was texting his mother, Gabriella, who he will then go on to have sex with and apparently a decently sexual relationship with her overall.

[00:07:31] But we really get the backstory of Gabriella and the origin story of Lestat. What do you think about these flashbacks that we got to Lestat back in his human days? I loved it. Can I just say, like, every time. The incest, I truly delude myself until I just cannot delude myself anymore.

[00:08:01] If you guys don't understand what we are previously referencing, we covered House of the Dragons season two. At one point, Damon is running around here in home and he has a vision of him having sex with his own mother. And Chappell came on this show and said, I am sure he had sex with his mother. And I said, couldn't be. Could not be. Couldn't be. That had to be some other lady. I think that was Becerra's wife. Could not be his mother.

[00:08:31] Sure enough, next week, confirmation it was his mother. And sure enough, this week, the opening line was like, mother, lover, incest, edifice. I was like, oh my God. Yeah. Oh my God. Mari, Lestat goes out of his way to try to justify the incest in basically every scene of this episode.

[00:08:57] He's like, okay, so let's just ignore the incest part. And then later on, he thanks us. We're like, hey, you know, thank y'all for still being here. Surprise, the incest didn't scare you off. By the end, he just lands on, we're vampires. Fuck it. Which is so great. Like, we're, again, we're on episode two.

[00:09:18] And I don't know if it's the vampire, Lestat season one, episode two, or interview with the vampires season three, episode two, whatever it is. It does feel like a standalone property. And it is just amazing to be getting, like, Lestat's point of view on everything because it's like beautiful chaos in his head. Like, just the whole, oh, you are surprisingly cool with this.

[00:09:45] And just the, like, almost a stream of conscious rambling. The, okay, yes, I know this is a scene where I'm not in it, but this is how I think it went. I was just like, this is amazing. It's like a fourth wall break that acknowledges the absurdity of what is happening, you know? And it's something we didn't get necessarily in the first two seasons because Louis, Louis, Louis, Louis uptight.

[00:10:14] Louis, you know, he's trying to get his point across, you know? And Lestat is just different. And it's just, it's so fun so far. Like, this episode I thought was great. All of the little, the flashbacks between his childhood, it's done very masterfully. And seeing the scenes for next week, it seems like it's going to continue. The way that they are reading the present day with the past is so good.

[00:10:43] It's so good because you're, I'm not confused at what's going on. Everything feels like it's supposed to be there. It's like simultaneously explaining Lestat's current behaviors due to his past behaviors. It's amazing, to be quite honest. Yeah. In the flashback, we got, we got Lestat at, you know, at basically the dinner table or we kind of at home with his dad.

[00:11:13] His two surviving brothers and his mom. I think five other of his siblings had died already to that point. And so it was just the four of them living as, in like a manor. I think he was a monsignor of the, of the crew. And so his dad was kind of like ruling over this area or at the very least, like almost like a lordship of this area. A noble. It was like, it was like a noble house. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right.

[00:11:40] A noble house, but not a like, not a very well off noble house. Like it seemed like they had nice things, but they weren't doing anything. You know, it was like, they were almost just like resting on we're nobility. We're better than everybody. But very clearly there's this division in the home where it's the dad and the two brothers that are all very similar. We'll just call them the cabbages as Lestat and Gabriela will call them.

[00:12:07] But then you have Lestat and Gabriella who are clearly almost like hostages in this situation. Right. We know Lestat is a young boy. There's not much he can do, but it's not a great time for women in general to have their own autonomy. And Gabriela is miserable. This woman is fed up. She has given birth or at least attempted to give birth to five different children that are no longer here. She has the two that she hates the most that are still here. And then she still has Lestat.

[00:12:36] This lady has given birth eight times basically to a man that she cannot stand. Even as far as going to get herself mutilated so that she could not do that anymore. Yeah. Like, so what we've, we learned and which I thought was done pretty well. Cause I was like, I was like her accent is so like she, so she's Italian.

[00:13:01] And she, she's, she was taken from Italy to marry this French noble who is clearly a minor noble who isn't like. That's where we get landlords from, right? He's a minor lord noble. He had, he owns land. He has his own peasants, which we saw them asking about the wolves and stuff.

[00:13:24] And something about that, you know, Lestat was kind of waxing poetically, but something about how his father and his brothers were taking care of the property. They were clearly just like going down and down and down. Like if they're, it seemed like their money wasn't, wasn't, you know, flowing right. It seems like the, the name wasn't that great, even though they, they're trying to keep it great and all that. So it's just like, she is brought to another country, married to a man.

[00:13:54] She doesn't like forced to have these kids. And basically she gets it. Basically she gets her tubes tied off the low without him knowing the, she, she tells him that the midwife, like, Hey yo, cut them, cut them joints, cut them tubes. So this don't have to happen yet type thing. So it's, it was a very interesting dynamic to see. And it was kind of weird.

[00:14:19] Cause I was like, try to fit it with Lestat's origin story that we heard from season one with how he met his maker. So I don't know. It was, that was kind of interesting to me. Yeah. Well, we will see kind of how Lestat gets to that point because he will go out and eventually there's a wolf problem in the, in the, in the land.

[00:14:45] And the people of the land are coming to his dad and being like, Hey, I need you to help us. Like, you know, like get rid of the wolves, give us some food, something. And it's kind of like, nah, deal with it. It'll be okay. Gabriella is sick of this because she's like, go be a man. Somebody do something that is worth living. Go live a life. I can't do anything. I'm not allowed to do nothing. All I can sit here doing pop out babies all the time for this dude who sucks. I hate it here. Somebody for the love of God.

[00:15:12] She's like, she basically said, what's the thing the woman be saying now? Where the man at? Who going to be the man? Who going to be the man? She's like, who going to be the man? And Lestat takes this off like this as a challenge because he's fed up too. He's realizing he's got a stutter. He's not being able to go to the theater and the things that interest him. Yeah. And so he's fed up too. And so when she's like, go be a man, he takes that as a challenge.

[00:15:40] Also acknowledging that she probably thinks he's not going to come back alive. Right. One man versus five wolves or eight wolves, I guess I should say. Yeah. It's probably a death sentence, but she would rather him be dead than be living up in this in squalor like this. Like at least go do something and die a noble death trying. Right. Lestat does not die a noble death. Apparently he got that dog in him because he killed eight wolves. Yeah. Eight wolves by himself.

[00:16:09] He lost his dog. He lost his horse, but he did it. The peasants love him for it now. They want to come in and praise him. And he proves himself and to his mom that he's worth it. You know, he's worth a damn. Yeah. Everybody's into him, including his mom, because she finally. Yeah.

[00:16:32] This is where we kind of see the incest seeds because she's rubbing ointment on his wounds. And then she starts to rub a little too much. You know, like, why are you down there on his thigh so much? You know, I just I just don't feel like the wolves was just down there just chilling like that. And so she really massaging down there and telling them how she's dreamed about just being free. She said, I wish I was in the spring naked and just like let all kinds of people just have sex with me. Just everybody. She's like, train this, train that.

[00:17:01] Just like, yeah, bring them on boys, men, women. She's like, I don't care. Just sleep with me. And he's kind of like, oh, dang, mama, you got a freaky. I like that. And then she reveals to him. Yeah, but I'm probably going to die this winter. So, you know, not really much to talk about. And this is awful because this is the one person in the in the household that he has. And so rather than staying there and watching her die, he leaves to go to France or to Paris. I'm sorry.

[00:17:28] And that's where we know he will be turned by Magnus, I believe, is his maker, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah. So, yeah. So his origin story really does start with him trying to escape this life, but leaving his mom behind to die. He will then become a vampire and then go back and save her, Mari. And then we get to see a really cool scene at the end of this episode where he goes and saves her and then they go and kill everybody. Yeah.

[00:17:54] And it seems like when he he had the glass and then when Louie used to have the glasses, it seems like even he was in his fledgling state when he turned her. And that's what I was kind of saying, because like tomorrow, I remember his maker kidnaps him. I thought his maker kidnaps him. His maker is basically a serial killer of blonde of young blonde men. And I could have sworn he said like he was kidnapped. He was held for a few days. Right.

[00:18:24] Was it a few days or a few years? Like, I could not remember. I could have sworn he was trapped for a while, but he couldn't have been trapped for that long if she was she hadn't died. You know, if she only had a few months to live. And then at one point, instead of killing him, his maker releases him and his maker kills himself. And so then Lestat is kind of like, you know, left to fend for himself from what we understood.

[00:18:50] But instead of fending for himself, he goes back, helps his mom and she becomes his fledgling. And she's also his mom. And they're also lovers. Gross. All of it. But a very cool scene. You know, I think he tries to him and Gabriela throughout the episode. Like, again, he would try to explain it to us why incest makes sense for him as a vampire.

[00:19:20] Is this something we do see in other vampire lore, Mari? The mother, son, incest. Incest in general. Like are the Cullen siblings? In general. You didn't watch Twilight, though. I watched Twilight. I didn't read it, though. Oh, okay. I didn't read it. Yeah. Incest among siblings is not that rare. But this is a little. This was like the first time I've heard of it.

[00:19:50] Going back and turning your parent to then have incest with them. Yeah. That's a first for me, I do believe. Again, I could be blocking it all out. Because that's what I'm going to ask. You know, that ultimate boy mom. Don't put it like that. Yeah. Well, I mean, you know, they try to make a good point and say, like, what else do they have? They're vampires.

[00:20:20] The world is their oyster. So why would they limit themselves to the rules and regulations of, you know, the mortal world? Right? Like, sure. It's gross. But I mean, vampire. Like, I think it was, was it Santiago who was like, I slept with everybody here. You know? Like, what? I slept with them. I slept with them. I slept with the mom and the daughter. Yeah. Like, yeah. Like, whatever. What else are we doing? You know? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:20:49] Santiago's the mom and the, you know, that's true. Right. So this is quite normal for this vampire world. Or at least the French, you know? Maybe it's true. Could be. Could be. But yeah. Yeah. Because also, like, also in the, I think, I don't know if it was the making of the episode, maybe, or the behind the scenes of the episode.

[00:21:18] But they were saying, like, in the behind the scenes of the episode that, like, it's rare, right? For vampires to have people that knew them from before they were vampires. They were human and still be there. And that, like, so the, they have three different dynamics going on. They have the mother-son dynamic of, again, their human sides. Them knowing each other for so long, being linked humanly.

[00:21:46] Then as vampires with Lestat turning Gabriela. Now he's her maker, which is a, like, kind of an inverse of their relationship in the vampire world. And then the fact that they do just eventually become lovers. Because it's like, they're just so intrinsically tied together that that is, like, the next logical step in their relationship.

[00:22:14] And it's just like, ew. But, like, the bond is just so close. You know? I want to talk about Gabriela as a character. I think it's Jennifer L.A. is the, is the actress who plays her. I really enjoy Gabriela and just her lust for being a vampire. Because you can tell that she was somebody who was, you know, kind of held back for so long. You know?

[00:22:44] She kind of like, she reminds me, like, the preacher's kids. You know? Like, they, like, oh, they gotta, they gotta be straight-laced their whole life. But the moment, the moment they get outside, they got to act wild, right? She had college and has been for a long time, you know? And she, like, a super senior. And she ain't going nowhere, you know? She could just tell that she's living in all of it, right? Like, the lust for her son. Fuck it. Let's do it. You know? She doesn't care. Like, she's at the strip club.

[00:23:12] She's, she's like, I want to know everything about this, this fat-ass country that you got, right? I want to, she's like, F it. Take me to Toledo. Take me to Amal. I don't care. She wants to see it all. And I think the only person who could really relate to that feeling is probably Daniel Malloy. Because he, too, seems like he's really enjoying being a vampire. Right. About Gabriella as Lestat's mom. I think she, I think she is such an interesting character.

[00:23:38] Because it's kind of like, we see vampires, they're immortal, right? They don't die. And the fact that Lestat, like, right now we're from Lestat's point of view, right? People coming in and out of your life for a millennia has to be crazy. You know, centuries. You know what I'm saying? Because remember, he tells her, he's like, he's like, I've only seen you twice in the last century. You know what I'm saying?

[00:24:08] Like, that is such a weird dynamic to have not with just your mom, but every vampire that you have now, like, encountered. Lovers you've had, you were lovers with for decades or centuries. And then you guys aren't lovers anymore. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. It's such an interesting dynamic. But I say that all that to say, Gabriella popping in here, it's so, it's just another layer to see of Lestat.

[00:24:35] And it's just, it's just how, like, we are different people when we are around different people. So Gabriella brings out that, that straight, that vampire-y, bloodlusty, like, we can do whatever we want to, that apex alpha species within him, I believe, because of their closeness, their bond. And that incestuous bond, they're like, fuck it, we're the best. Who gonna say something? Who gonna check me, boo? Who gonna check me? Right. Yeah.

[00:25:02] Like, it's that, that, that haughtiness, that, Lord, does Lestat need any more? No. But that is her effect on, on him. And I, I do want to see her interact more. I want to see her interact with Daniel and Lloyd more. Me too. I want to see how, yeah, I want to see how, how, how the, the band thing was really interesting. I love that dynamic there.

[00:25:27] So, I'm, I'm glad Gabriella is here because also she is the gateway into us learning about his, his childhood and his past and his time as a human. So, so far, she's just a badass. She just, like, and she's saving him. Like, she, she's, she's the fledgling that, that comes when her maker asks her. You bet she does. When he's in that dire strait. Yeah, ew. Ew. Ew. Yeah.

[00:25:57] Yeah. And they, they have the, the, the, the pack that they clearly can't. It's weird. But yeah, it's just, it's just such an interesting dynamic because we've seen Lestat with Louis. We've seen Lestat. It's almost like Lestat and Claudia when they, whenever they were on the same page, the very few times they were on the same page. You know, but it's just an interesting dynamic. And she just brings out another side of him. And she manages to get him on the tour bus.

[00:26:27] You know, last episode we saw him in the bed with her. But this was after he had flown the coop. You know, he, yeah, he jumped out the window. Everybody had seen him murder that hallway full of people. Uh, and so the, I was wondering how he would, you know, how are we going to reconcile the band part? Right. He ends up on the tour bus waking up and the band is all there. And they're being talked to by his lawyer who basically is telling them, look, so you saw Vampire. It's fine.

[00:26:57] Yeah. He might've killed some people in self-defense and sure he could fly, but you saw the NDA. And so you really can't say nothing anyway. I own you. I fucking loved her. She was great. And Lizette told us in episode one, like, she's like a man eater. Like, that's why he had it. And so to see it in action was amazing. She was just like, okay, yes, Vampire. All right, let's get past this. We have more dates. We have more tour dates. They're like, we have questions.

[00:27:27] She's like, I don't know why. It don't matter. Shut the fuck up. Like, it was so funny. And they're like laughing questions. Twilight, do you really drink blood? Do you murder people? Do you kill people? That's what the devil's for. Like all this stuff. Who is he? Like, who's this guy? Like the doctor, the doctor guy that's not here. And it was just, that bus scene was so funny to me because his lawyer, she was amazing. Just amazing.

[00:27:57] Yeah, I mean, we have a lot to unpack with that bus scene because there are so many people on that bus who now have to process what they saw. And there's so many questions, but they have to do it in the presence of a vampire. Mari, you're a vampire girly. But could you ever imagine, like, how do you act in the presence of a super murderer? A super murderer. True. True. True. True.

[00:28:28] It's just like, how do you act in the... It's just funny because they have a lot of questions, rightfully so. And it's just kind of funny because up until last night, y'all were cool with the vampire gimmick. Everybody wants to be a vampire until it's time to be a vampire. But don't nobody want to be a vampire. That's how it goes. That's how it goes. Don't not know it. Yeah. So, yeah, it's, you know, it's...

[00:28:56] They rightfully have questions. And Lestat being like, okay, yeah, I'm a vampire. Yes. Okay. I don't kill people per se all the time. I drain them. And then they talk about the blood donor system. He then proceeds to read all of their minds. It is... It's a shock. They have to process it. But again, what you going to do? You sign an NDA. They're basically hostages. They're hostages. We're on the road.

[00:29:24] They can't even quit because he could just kill them. Like, you... There's nothing stopping Lestat from murdering everybody on the bus and then going and getting a new band. He is the face of the band. The vampire Lestat is the brand. And then you got, you know, he's Beyonce. You know what I'm saying? Like, you're directing people. Don't you ever start to think you're irreplaceable. Okay? Because you can be replaced.

[00:29:52] And it's not in a cool way where you can go back to your regular life. The man can't allow you to walk around knowing the truth. So they have to kind of play like, okay, I'm vaguely interested in him. And most of them are. Most of them are kind of like, all right, well, there could be worse things. You know, they got some clout. The band sounds good. I'm sure he's a vampire, but he says he's cool. And, you know, he ain't ate me yet. So I think we good. The only person who really has an issue with this is the former front man, Alex.

[00:30:23] Because, well, one, Alex has good sense. Number one. Number one. Start there. He has good sense. But at the same time, he has nowhere to go. He does end up ditching them for a minute. But I have a feeling he will be back. Because, I mean, his brother is in the band. There's a non-zero chance that Lestat just kills everybody because you won't participate. So he won't be going long. And Lestat said so. He said, don't say nothing. Or, you know, you dead. Your brother dead. So much people might die.

[00:30:53] But Lestat did do the thing where, which was good. He's like, other than me, you actually have musical talent. Which is, like, great. And, again, Alex probably feels some type of way because he was the lead singer until they brought this vampire in. And everybody, you know, now they're under his thumb. So I get it. He has a lot of process. But what are you doing? Like when Lestat read his brother's mind, they only had 1,500 followers. Now they have 200,000. Mm-hmm.

[00:31:22] Like, it's not like these people aren't getting anything out of it. Yeah, you're on a tour right now. Yeah. You're making music. You know, you're making money. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Enjoy. Bold of you to throw a fit because I would have definitely been faking it. And he can read your mind. So, I mean, there's no point in you even really faking it because, I mean, it is what it is. But, yeah, they also find out that what they have been doing is sacrilegious to vampires. They have been telling vampire tales in these songs.

[00:31:51] And, you know, Lestat says, I've been saving y'all anyway from other vampires. But y'all don't want to really get into that. Nothing to worry about because I have the blood of Akasha in me. He loves. Talk about his damn Aaliyah blood. Yeah, that's his favorite thing. Exactly. Like, Aaliyah just gonna come and save you. Right. That's his blood. Okay.

[00:32:16] Another fascinating part I thought about the bus interaction was that, you know, while they were looking, they've read his memoir, right? They've read Interview with the Vampire. They know that this isn't a gimmick, that this is him. So, they're sitting there on the bus with the book. He actually sets it on fire. Yeah. Like, can you, do you have the fire again? Yeah. All these songs about Louis? Oh my God. That sent me to the moon. Right. But it also kind of bothered him because all the songs are not about Louis.

[00:32:45] And that's the part that I think Lestat is really, that really gets under his skin is that Interview with the Vampire is a book that, from the perspective of Louis, told by Daniel Malloy, produced by the Talamasca. It's not Lestat's story. That's all his ops. Right. All his, look, all his ops were in the room making this book about him and he was not there. He told them, I lived 540,000 days, 500 days before I met Louis.

[00:33:13] You think Louis, the only person I'm writing stories about? Only one person I'm writing songs about? What happened to Nikki? Remember Nikki? The one that he was in love with when he met Armand? We're going to find out next week. We're going to find out next week. These stories could very well be about him. Some of them are about Louis. He does admit that the Black Licorice, I think it was called, was about, was it not? She asked, she's like, is that about you sucking? He's like, no. He said, no.

[00:33:43] Tuesday, last week, I believe. Yeah. It was about the first kill that he made after, after breaking up with Louis or reconciling with Louis. Exactly. That's it. I think it was a reconciler. Reconciling. Yeah. Yeah. You nailed it. Yeah. So, so they basically are like torn between like mild interest, complete disgust, but also the trappings of fame. They don't want to leave this life behind.

[00:34:07] And so he's able to convince them to still, you know, to still perform. Most of them. Alex isn't there, but again, they'll, we'll get back to that. He'll, he'll be back. I'm sure of it. So he's going to die. Yeah. Yeah. It's either that or he's going to die. Um, so, um, Gabriella and Lestat end up going to Toledo because this is the second most depressed city in America, according to the CDC and everybody's walking with their heads down. I could see it.

[00:34:38] I've never been to Toledo. And if you're listening to this and you're from Toledo, but Hey, it just doesn't sound that appealing. That's all I'll say. I have beef with the whole great state of Ohio. So, Ooh, Hey, we could talk about that for hours because if I, if I have, I'm Don't let me start on the Browns. Oh, it's a bangles. Honestly, the Cavaliers can get it too. You know, we're here. We're right here. We get it.

[00:35:05] Um, so they're flying around Toledo, basically hunting a group of gas, a glass salesman. Um, they ended up taking them out, basically just whittling the group down just until people tapping out for the night. They end up at the strip club watching these strippers. And while they're there hunting these salesmen, they're being watched. Rashid or Rashid, depending on who you are, Rashid is there as well, posing as a waiter and kind of keeping his eye on the staff.

[00:35:33] But the most important part of this scene is not the strippers shooting the ping pong balls out of their, uh, holes. Um, it is the call he gets from his lawyer, Christine, because a man named Thomas Pitt wants to meet with him. He said he was the owner of the hotel that Lestat trashed and he wants the full fan experience

[00:35:59] in exchange for Lestat destroying his hotel, uh, in the last episode in that big fight. And so he is going to meet with Thomas Pitt. And this is my favorite scene of the show so far. Thomas Pitt is Louis. I did not see that coming. I'm not going to hold you. I didn't see it coming. Me neither. Me neither. Oh, snap.

[00:36:28] That was so good. And, and, uh, again, not what, what? No, go ahead. And in the, again, in the, uh, behind the scenes, they named Thomas Pitt. They named him after, uh, like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. And Brad Pitt. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, which, which is funny. Like this character is accepting the Pitt last name when a whole bunch of people are currently right now getting rid of it. But anyway.

[00:36:58] Uh, yeah, I thought now this scene, like each scene, it just gets better and better. I love it. We love a good petty scene. We do. That's what we hear. Petty, petty, petty, petty. Uh, when, when Louie, when it camera pans and it's Louie and they're just going back and forth and Lestat starts getting angry. I was like, oh, this is, this is so good. This is so good.

[00:37:23] It is really, it is really good because Louie has brought in his lawyer and his lawyer is here to negotiate the terms of the payment for the compensation of the hotel stuff. Right. They have to wipe people's memories. They got to pay people off to keep them quiet. Um, our lawyer, Christine does not care. This lady does not give a damn. She said, y'all magic. Y'all can wipe people's memory. Y'all don't need no more money. What is this really about? Um, and, um, Louie says, well, Lestat was the one who really called this meeting. Lestat of course is like, no, I didn't.

[00:37:53] He said, well, you trashed my hotel. You stole my position. You've hired my, uh, my documentarian. I don't know what he called him. His writer friend, his biographer. Yeah. You, you've done that. And you expect me to not believe that you trying to get my, I mean, you're writing songs about me. And let's add like, okay, first of all, all those songs are not about you. So who is like, I just find it funny. How everything you got going on in your life got me involved. And you thought I wouldn't go pull up. Yeah.

[00:38:22] He's like, sounds like it's a cry for help. Oh my God. And he's, and they go back and forth. And then don't at one point, um, he's like, why do you have Sam on your books? And Louie's like, well, Sam didn't do it. And, and then Lestat was like, well, guess who did that other guy? He's like, it's okay. I can say his name. Armand Armand, you know, we're, we're really watching a divorce proceeding, right? Like that's really what's happening.

[00:38:50] Um, because we know that Louie and Lestat were on the same page before the book release. They had finally started to heal, but now the book is released and Lestat knows one Louie's perspective of him. He also feels like Louie has been lying on him because he doesn't agree with the way things happen. And, you know, he feels betrayed that Louie went and told all his stories and made a ton of money off of it, by the way.

[00:39:16] And so, um, so he got, this is an extra grind that they've been, they needed to talk this out. The problem is Louie has showed up here being completely petty. Uh, cause he, cause he's like, yeah, it was Armand, you know? And then, uh, Lestat's like, exactly. You didn't have no issue taking Armand back. I bet y'all had a little house out in Sausalito together, didn't y'all? And Louie like, we did. And what about it? I was like, ah! It was so, oh my God.

[00:39:42] And, uh, the whole like, and we, we drew numbers on each other's back and pretend, uh, that we didn't know it. I was, I, I don't know why that, why did that get listed? Lestat was a pit. It was too specific. He said, now you're not being petty. You just telling the truth. And I don't like that. But that was crazy work. I was like, oh, they, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm. They still, they still like each other. They, they do. They do.

[00:40:11] Uh, Lestat was appalled at all of this. He even asked Louie like, so you sleeping with your, with your lawyer? And Louie like, yeah, absolutely. Are you sleeping with yours? He's like, yeah, I guess I, you know, I am. I don't know, whatever. It's like, it's not cool when, when you do it, but when I do it, it's okay. Um, so we also find out that Louie owns 40% of Lestat's merch as a well. Louis really wanted 45. My bad. Louis really wanted divorce.

[00:40:40] Which, how did he even, cause Lestat looked like he didn't know that fact. It's like, how? Well, that's the thing. The brand is Lestat, but the book is Louis' book. You know? So when you make yourself the vampire Lestat, the copyright goes to. Oh, snap. Gotts to be Mo'Care. Your whole image is in Louie's pocket. He created your identity.

[00:41:11] And he's walking around. I need to see that merch. I need to get my hand on that merch. I need to get my hand on that merch. I can put it on a cup. I need some of that merch. I need that merch. I need that merch. Um, so yeah, I thought this whole scene was fascinating. Um, Louis ends up getting invited to Lestat's, uh, concert where Lestat will be, uh, performing the song while Daniel Malloy is in the crowd watching on. He's identifying Gabriella in the crowd. He knows something's up with her, but he can't quite place it.

[00:41:39] But he knows she's a vampire, you know, cause he's talked to her before. He doesn't know that she's Lestat's mom, I think. And then he also peeps Louis in the crowd as well. Um, and him and Louis also have some bad blood. Um, you know, no pun intended, uh, because, uh, Louis, uh, really was under the impression that Daniel Malloy was not going to write the book. He sat down, he did the interview. They did the whole thing. Daniel Malloy had his laptop, but at the end of last season, Louis set that laptop on fire.

[00:42:09] He's just a vampire and doesn't understand that the cloud is not only a gift of flight. Right. He didn't understand technology, even though he's been around for centuries. Since the beginning of it. Yeah. That, that was so funny. He's like, I thought, I thought I, I burnt it. My bad, G. My bad. He acted like it was a binder. Like, I put, I said it on fire, sir. Please.

[00:42:37] Like it, like he had, was like typewriting. Oh my God. Yeah. So, uh, Daniel and Louis do have to have it out. But first, Lestat is going to freeze time. I thought, see for me at first, I forgot. Cause I'd be forgetting we watching vampire story. So at first I thought this was like a cool, like kind of like dream sequence, you know, where Lestat singing to Louis, Louis kind of watching him from the crowd. Louis floats. I mean, Lestat floats up to him and hands him the book.

[00:43:05] But then I realized, no, that, that really just happened in front of everybody. And they just don't know it. That's what I, me too. I was like, do the people see him? Is he pretending to be like on, like, I thought like maybe everybody might think it was like, I thought people were seeing it, but thinking it was like, like, uh. Like the wires. Like a performance. Yeah. Yeah. And then I realized, oh, like, no, no, no. They did. They can't see this. He's doing a, he's doing a thing. Yeah. Vampires down vampire. And Lestat gonna do his big grand gesture.

[00:43:34] And Louis gonna fall for it. Yeah. Of course. And so, um, you know, it's very clear that Lestat's not happy about the way he was depicted in the book. But, uh, Louis is also not happy about the way he was depicted in the book. And so we see him and Daniel go and talk about it. Now, this is a conversation, as you pointed out, is from, uh, from Lestat's point of view, even though he was not there. He says, I am everywhere.

[00:44:00] And honestly, uh, I think, Mari, the way Lestat presents his side of the story, it makes him seem like a far more reliable narrator than Louis. Even despite, despite him not being in the room, I know Lestat has ways of reading people's minds and all kinds of stuff. So to me, when Lestat says I'm everywhere, there's a non-zero chance that he was there. But for Louis, I have a hard time believing anything Louis has told us in the first two seasons. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:44:30] It's, it's because Lestat is so open and honest and fourth wall breaky and, you know, doesn't seem to kind of like try and, try and massage his persona, you know, like it makes you feel like he's more trustworthy, which is also a good way to be a good liar. But yeah, it does feel like I, I, I, I get that. I do agree.

[00:44:57] I feel like I, uh, trust what he says a little more. Right. I mean, even in this version of the events, we saw Lestat was wounded by the wolves at a very early age and he still has those scars on his chest as he's performing, uh, you know, in the crowd, you know, they see, they see him shirtless. He's got the, the, the war wounds. Oh yeah. I was wondering what that was from, uh, in the promos. Cause I kept seeing, I was like, it felt like they were emphasizing those wounds.

[00:45:25] And I was like, I don't remember us seeing those wounds in the first two seasons, at least not the emphasis on them. So yeah, that, that was really interesting that the, like those were from the wolves and stuff. Exactly. Because Louie, how come you haven't mentioned those scars before? Cause we saw two seasons of TV and we didn't see no scars. You know what I'm saying? Like Louie, you know, like I, you know, I, y'all know, you know what I'm saying? Like Louie's side of the events is very polished. It's what he wants it to remember.

[00:45:54] We know there were moments where he was like, um, Lestat's awful. Like I hate him. He was just some scrawny guy, you know, like he really didn't have a lot of charisma, but then we watch the Lestat wooing Louie and like, you know, come to me, come to me, you know, like that kind of stuff. Right. That's not the Louie that he was depict. That's not the Lestat Louie was depicting when he would talk about him to Daniel, you know? And so I just think it's very fascinating that, you know, now all of a sudden Lestat's appearance is even different as opposed to Louie's point of view. Yeah.

[00:46:25] That's, that's such a, that's a great point. That's a great point. This is such an amazing show. It is. I know you love an unreliable narrator. And I, so, and that's why I was like, this will be so much fun to talk about because I'm starting to question everything Louie has ever told us. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Dang. So I know, I know. Right. Right.

[00:46:47] So we see Daniel and Louie talking and Lestat says, these details are important to understand how he will unleash the queen of the damned on us for the people not in the know. Akasha, I think. Akasha. Yeah. You know, you know, so she's coming. Okay. She's coming. The girl is coming. She's coming. She's about to rock the boat, work the middle. So, and he let her free.

[00:47:17] So Daniel apologizes to Louie. He said, I can't fly. I can't start a fire. Like, look, this is all I had was the book. Louie talks about the book and he says like, hey, I didn't like it because it made me look like a liar. And ultimately, the book ends up hurting Lestat as they were starting to come back together as friends. Louie also acknowledges that he does capitalize on the book because he gets rich. These hotels and all this stuff that he's buying.

[00:47:48] Obviously, the merch, you know, like the man is a ton of money off of these things. But he's still kind of jacked up in the head. He says he saw Claudia recently and tried to follow her, but it was totally somebody different. And I thought for a split second him and Daniel Malloy were going to kind of bond over that because Daniel was talking about how sometimes he still hears Armand in his head as, you know, the person who made him. But this was a setup. This was a setup.

[00:48:17] Daniel Malloy has passed Louie off to the Talamasca. Raglan James is there along with Rashid. And Louie is shocked because he's still like, Rashid! Rashid! The real Rashid! Like, boy, they got you in this too. Mm-hmm. I mean, Rashid told him to get up out of there. And told Daniel to get up out of there. He ain't listening. He ain't listening. Look at you now.

[00:48:47] Look at you on retainer. And so the Talamasca is here to talk about Louie and to talk to Louie about what they need him for. Because although I think Louie is crazy, you know, I'm on record, but also I think he'd be lying too. Louie is a really good fighter. That's one thing about him. Louie, we have seen Louie murder a bunch of people.

[00:49:11] He slapped up Armand really easily, despite Armand being thousands of years older than him, you know, or hundreds of years older than him. Like, he went in there and, like, you know, handled him, right? And so Louie is a trained... Like, he's good. He's good with a weapon. So the Talamasca needs him to clear up a little issue they have with one of these hives out there. It's a hive, right? Coven? Uh, it's a coven. Coven? A broom? Okay, yeah.

[00:49:41] A broom? Might be a broom. It's a pack. It's a bunch of people, right? It's a bunch of vampires up there. Yeah, it's a pack. And they're up there causing problems for the Talamasca. They got a fentanyl outbreak. They've been taken down to power grids. And they just can't... Like, Raglan can't get through to Louie. He's like, you know, they tried to destroy your hotel in Detroit. He's like, I don't care. It's like, they tried to decapitate Lestat. He's like, I don't care.

[00:50:10] He goes, okay, well, we need you to get rid of them. Um, and I hope you would do it because, um, maybe, just maybe, this name rings a bell. The person who is in charge of this crew of people, it's some name that we've heard before in the past, Mari. They name dropped Bruce. And I was shocked. Ooh-wee! When I tell you...

[00:50:35] Ooh, when I told you, I was like, get him. I didn't, I didn't, again, didn't see it coming. He's the... Raglan James said his name is Killer. Also known as Bruce. And I was like, Louie, if you don't take your tail down to them people's thing and tear them some new ones. Yeah. Ooh! Ooh! Get him! Get him!

[00:51:02] Do you think this is the big conflict of the season? I mean, aside from Akasha eventually coming, do you think that this is going to be like a big moment for Louie or is Louie about to go and pull up on them in the next episode and just end this really quickly? I figured it was like a really quick thing because this is not Louie's story. This is Lestat's story. So I did feel like this is just a way to keep Louie in the realm, really, to be quite honest. And to kind of further that telemasker thing.

[00:51:32] There apparently was an agent, a telemasker agent from the show that people hated that they killed off. They had Louie kill off screen. Like they mentioned his death here. So that was interesting. But yeah, no, I don't think this is the big thing. I feel, you know, I think Akasha is coming. And I don't, I don't know. I don't, cause they haven't said if they have a fourth season yet. Right. So. Right. Yeah. So my thought, my thought process is this is going to be a quick thing, but I do think

[00:52:02] it's going to be a big, you know what I'm saying? I do think it's gonna, they're going to find a way to weave it in there to make it, cause this is the biggest thing. We all want to see this. We need to see this man tortured, murdered. Yes. Like, um, but I, I don't think it'll be like, you know, the, the, like, uh, the equivalent of a house of dragon episode nine type thing. Right, right, right, right.

[00:52:27] Um, I asked because in the premiere episode of, uh, the vampire Lestat, we see, uh, Armand with one eye. He's got a patch on his eye, but we see Louie with one leg. Uh, he's walking with a cane and, and so I was like, maybe this fight is going to lead to that, but, or maybe it's Akasha. Great point. Oh.

[00:52:51] Well, they shouldn't be fighting Akasha cause Akasha, she wants to kill like humans. She wants, she don't really want to have vampires from what I remember. Um, that's a great point. Cause we don't even really address those two injuries. Like the, the, the, the eye patch is one thing, right? We don't care about Armand, but Louie coming in on crutches. I mean, on a, on a, with a cane is, it's kind of weird. Yeah.

[00:53:20] And, and, and normally vampires can heal most wounds, uh, except for, uh, inflicted by other like preternatural creatures, like other vampires and stuff like that. That's normally the rule. It's like, they can basically like heal anything except for something like made by other, other vampires. Yeah. Well, we shall see.

[00:53:47] Um, because that is pretty much our episode. Mari, is there anything else from the episode that you wanted to flag up? I really enjoyed this one. Uh, and I really enjoyed this episode too. There's nothing that I can think of. Like I said, I've been, I've been watching like the little like first looks and stuff and it's been great. Um, hearing from the actors, hearing from the producers, all of that. Um, it, and it feels like that HBO prestige television.

[00:54:15] Um, so, uh, this is great. I'm so excited about what, what, finishing the season and to see what the team has up there. It's just been so good so far. Two episodes in amazing. Yeah. Uh, two episodes in and, uh, a few more to go. I think is what happens at eight episodes this season. I believe, um, each in a different corresponding, uh, city, I believe seven episodes.

[00:54:40] So Detroit, Toledo, Toronto, the devil's road, New York, Montreal, and the failures are the episode titles, uh, and we will be back next week to talk about Toronto. Uh, but before we go, Mari, do you have any vampire suggestions or recommendations for us? Um, let's see. I do. Now let me see if I can remember it.

[00:55:07] Um, there was something on, oh, okay. Old school. If you haven't seen this movie, it's, it's been like 10, 12 years, but, uh, let me in. Does that, does that ring a bell? Uh, let, let, let me in also, or, or also known as let the right one in depending on if you watch the Swedish or American version. I think it was Swedish.

[00:55:32] Um, but basically it follows, uh, a child vampire. Like if I, it follows a child who meets a child vampire and it is such an engrossing story. Um, I don't want to give it away, but it was a big thing back. Uh, it has to be at least like around like 2013 ish, 2010 ish. I don't know.

[00:55:58] Um, but I, I remember watching it probably around the time of being in school and it was a big movie. Um, I think it was like a big Swedish movie that they then made American kind of like the girl with the dragon tattoo type thing. Like they were, yeah, they're like in the movie theaters at the same time. Uh, but yeah, let the right one in. Um, and it, it is such an engrossing tale and very subtle. Very good. Okay. I can see that. Check it out.

[00:56:28] Get your vampire fix. And then, uh, tune in next week to recap, kick back to catch up with all the stuff that we are doing. Mari, tell everybody what you are working on in the meantime. Over on crime scene, me and Sarah Carradine cover true crime. Uh, we cover true crime documentaries, docu-series, all of the above. We have been having a great time with, we've, we've been having just like so many great guests covering so many interesting properties. Uh, I was on vacation last week.

[00:56:57] So, um, in that meantime, Sarah, uh, was able to cover the witness. I believe it was the murder of Rachel Nickel and the witness. It's a documentary and a docudrama. Her and I believe it was SDP, um, covered that. And, uh, we also covered like Netflix has been coming up with like so many like hits after hits after hits.

[00:57:24] Uh, we just covered what was the, um, it was the one everybody was talking about like just last week. Uh, either way coming up, um, we are covering on Netflix maternal instinct. It's, it's another one of those like right now that everybody's talking about. It's a documentary about, um, a woman who shows up to a hospital with a baby and she says she's

[00:57:51] just given birth on the side of the road and nothing is as it seems. Um, so, uh, just make sure you're following crime scene. Please go to crime scene pod.com in order to subscribe. Um, you can go to buy me a coffee.com slash crime scene pod in order to sling us a few bucks and to, um, support us and you get, you would get access to, um, early, early access to early episodes. You get, uh, members only episodes.

[00:58:20] Uh, Chappelle was on with us when we did a live episode. So we're going to try and do those, uh, once a month. What are we, oh, we, what are we covering? The nightmare upstairs. What happened to Ty and Bryn. Exactly. So a lot going on. So, and if we understand you can't always use your money, but the best way to, way to support is to leave reviews and subscribe. Like literally it's free. It makes a big deal.

[00:58:48] Just tapping that like button, tapping that subscribe button. Um, tapping those five stars really, really, really does help. Um, I'm over on blue sky at Mari talks too much. That's too like the number two talking about. That's mostly love Island. I mean, I hear all you want to people about love Island people, people, people on the, uh, but yeah, that's, that's where you can find me. And again, go to Mari crafts too much that big cartel.com.

[00:59:14] If you want a very cool cup, you know, but yeah, they're fine. Look at that. All right. That's it for me. What about you? Chappelle. At recap, kick back on all social media platforms. I've already told you where I met, what we're talking about. Charm school. We're talking about house of the dragon. We're talking about interview with the vampire. Uh, I think I'm a release. Finally released the episode of bet on black this week. I was going to do some editing to it, but at this point, I just, I got too much going on. Y'all can't do it. So I'm going to release that raw.

[00:59:41] And then, um, yeah, I got some other stuff that I'm working on potentially, maybe some reality TV stuff. I've been thinking about talking about outlast over here. Uh, I think being, uh, being, oh yeah, you watch it. How is it? It's good so far. So I covered the first two seasons on the nothing but Netflix podcast, but that doesn't seem to be a thing right now. And so it might, it might have to come to, uh, to recap, kick back. We shall see. Uh, and then, um, I think being Camille, AF is going to join me to talk about some music.

[01:00:10] It's black music month. And last year we did the black music month challenge, uh, here on recap, kick back. And so, um, you know, since Mari is doing double duty talking about dragons and vampires, I think being Camille AF is going to come on to talk to me about some music. And so, uh, be on the lookout for that and more here on recap, kick back.com, AKA youtube.com slash at recap, kick back. Make sure you go to recap, kick back.com slash subscribe in order to subscribe to the podcast on all social media platforms.

[01:00:38] And make sure you follow us on social media, especially TikTok, because I can't go live yet on TikTok because they hate me. But if I got more followers, they might let me do that. So go follow us on TikTok. Yes. Follow us on TikTok. We need a, I think you need like a thousand followers or something like that. They let other people do it sometimes. Cause I be seeing people that don't got a thousand followers do it, but I wasn't one of the lucky few. I was not chosen, you know? Um, so please go follow us. Right. I met the criteria, but I wasn't selected.

[01:01:07] And so, uh, because of that, go follow us on all social media platforms and then, uh, tune in this week coming up for house of the dragon. Uh, but that's it for Mari and for myself and for the dragons to be, uh, you ain't gotta go home, but you gotta get the hell up out of here. We'll talk to y'all next time. Peace.
