[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_00]: And so it just feels wrong to not continue talking about the Walking Dead here on Recap Kickback.

[00:00:53] [SPEAKER_00]: And so I will be taking us through Daryl Dixon Season 2, the Book of Carol, and I cannot do this alone.

[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I will not. I will literally not do this unless I have the hostages with me.

[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_00]: And I really got to find her. I'm going to need to steal your plane. Oh, I guess you can come to and then completely just let us high and dry.

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: AJ is Josh coming?

[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but not until like season four.

[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we might hear about on a walkie talk a little bit.

[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Or for one episode or you know, maybe we'd go phone in, you know, we'll see a flashback involved.

[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_01]: But it'll be about two more seasons till he actually meet me.

[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Darryl Dixon season four the Book of Ligler.

[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. We will keep our fingers crossed.

[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_00]: But yes, with me we have Jessica Lees and AJ Mass of the other two people who I went on my The Walking Dead journey.

[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about fear of the Walking Dead. We talked about the world.

[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_00]: I believe we talked about Darryl and Paris season one.

[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: And we talked about is it I love the dead or wait, wait, wait, did we did?

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Dead city.

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we didn't talk about Rick shown.

[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_03]: We didn't talk about tell.

[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_03]: No, yeah, yeah.

[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you feel like we need to talk about that?

[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Just the only thing that I feel like we didn't get to talk about that I wish we had gotten to talk about.

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I wasn't I wasn't mad when we didn't do a whole podcast about it because I only have about five minutes of material about Rick Grimes can't drive a stick shift so Rick and Michelle can never go on the amazing race.

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Man, it feels like that was so long ago and I forgot for God and everything that happened.

[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_00]: They said, I knew they were having a marital dispute in the house at some point.

[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_00]: The real world came shining through in that and maybe we just dedicate one pocket.

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Like if you want it, if the listeners want us to talk about tell, maybe we could just dedicate like a here's what happened, you know, type thing.

[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think we're going to do a episodic breakdown of the Walking Dead Rick shown AJ.

[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Should we be waiting for I don't know the Walking Dead World Beyond season two like how many walking dead are we going to talk about here on the zombie kickback.

[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean we'll get another Maggie Nigan.

[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure what we got another season of that and I think the machine is probably over with.

[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, would I be surprised if a portal opens up and suddenly we're all back together again for one last fight.

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Should we need to make sure we never let AJ wander off.

[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah, our fault if something happened to him.

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then we wouldn't be able to move on.

[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, in case you all haven't gone on, we've watched season two book of Carol, which premier tonight.

[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't seen it go watch it before you listen to this.

[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_00]: We talked about the premiere here.

[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Darrell Dixon is back. He's in Paris and now we have one of the Walking Dead fandom's biggest like names.

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Carol is back everybody loves Carol.

[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_00]: We get to see Carol being a badass right out the gate, just.

[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I the thing I thought was so interesting about this episode is that we don't get a whole like previously on lost situation.

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_03]: We are like, they are building it for people that are just going to binge the whole thing in one day.

[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_03]: So we go from 10 seconds after season two cuts off, we go right back into the action and we pick it up like you could just watch them in one entire like continuous mobious strip of Darrell Dixon.

[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_03]: You have Carol, shove in a guy in the trunk of the car, fade to black, come back in a year later.

[00:05:17] [SPEAKER_03]: We are watching season two and she is like driven off and left the car.

[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_03]: And then she tells the guys, oh yeah, your friends in the trunk of the car.

[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_03]: And that's how we come in.

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_00]: He's a mile down the road and he has about an hour left.

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_00]: I think she's there about a half hour left of air.

[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_00]: And then she stole their vehicle that they could use to go get this man.

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Carol is also a murderer, a noted murderer AJ.

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_00]: But I know you were very excited to see Carol back.

[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I know you like, and this, this is how you get somebody high for season two of the show.

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_01]: This is Carol, this is great, this is my favorite character who stole live, I think.

[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's so good to see her just, just any situation she walks in, you know, she's got the two faces of Carol, she's got the.

[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh poor little me, could you chitdle me help me?

[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't have to fly of course and then you know on a dime she's like,

[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_01]: oh, you should know listen here's how it's going to go soft.

[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.

[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's fantastic I love it.

[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_00]: They said are you crazy?

[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_00]: She said, start a five.

[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, this is my Carol, this is the Carol that we grown to love, but you're right, Jess, we got nothing.

[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_00]: We got nothing from any previously on and it's been so long as I've watched this show.

[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't even remember how we got here.

[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, there's the lot.

[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_00]: There's France and then Carol showed up.

[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_00]: And they didn't do anything to remind us of, you know, the whole story around about the rock being like Jesus, you know, we're married.

[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_00]: He's the savior.

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Remember things?

[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm just talking about it this episode.

[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I don't know.

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_03]: I can see.

[00:06:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they did kind of remind us of the important things, which by going straight to France and showing us that the rants sucks at something.

[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's training with Darrell.

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: But here's the thing, this community is a pacifist community during the zombie apocalypse.

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_00]: These people are trying to avoid violence, AJ, I would have mutin' me.

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I would have left.

[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.

[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_00]: There's no way I could live with people who are like, yeah, we could train up the savior so that he doesn't get murdered in the end of the world as it happened.

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Or we can make sure he has empathy because that's what he really needs right now on the zombie apocalypse.

[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, what he really needs is isolation and that's what they've given him.

[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they're on the little island and it's like, like, you know,

[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Los Angeles kind of like, oh, Darrell, please, let's not attack anybody.

[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's not fight only punch after your punch.

[00:07:45] [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, you want the Darrells of the world to be out there keeping people as far away as possible.

[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_01]: But, but line of defense that you, you know, if they come in, you know, you're going to have to fight.

[00:07:54] [SPEAKER_01]: But the easiest way to not identify is to not let people find you and have your people outside on the main and keeping people from the island.

[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm, don't leave in Darrell no choice but to shoot people, you know, and I'm not getting wrong.

[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_00]: He loves it. He enjoys shooting people random people in the head. He doesn't care as far as he's concerned. He's at war, but everybody around is like, I'm Darrell.

[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_00]: No, no, there's a spit.

[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_00]: But I think repeated violence could really have a negative effect on somebody's psyche. No disrespect. No disrespect.

[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, I'm not talking about you necessarily, but, you know, how did they survive this long in the zombie apocalypse hiding?

[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know. Like, they're also, they their headquarters is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, it's the only thing you can see for like 10 miles in any direction.

[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_03]: That was deciding.

[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_00]: It was like, it kind of like even when they showed it from a distance, it felt very game of thrones, house of the dragon, like you walk up on a big ass castle and they're in there having a small council meeting and they bring in Darrell as like, you know, the words, like that's like, why is this happening?

[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, y'all are out there just in France just like living your best life being pacific, staying these things that you don't need to train all this kind of stuff is like, y'all are going to get murdered.

[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_00]: And if it's not for Darrell, then somebody else is going to come and take advantage for you.

[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_00]: So there's what we have, AJ, Darrell has to now learn nonviolence this season. That's gonna be fun.

[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you know, I think he only has to learn it in the presence of certain people. I think, you know, there's just some text, of course, that, you know, perhaps there's something going on.

[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_01]: That's a little bit more nefarious than we were led to believe in season one. And, you know, I'm sure that's going to be a big plot point in season two because there needs to be some conflict for Darrell.

[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, there's certainly not hiding it. It's right there at play side. I mean, even though they're doing this ambush and the French guys like,

[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, this is the entire American. We are our units. We are one. We are together now. You stand over there alone. We're going to stand on this side.

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, you see, there you see.

[00:09:59] [SPEAKER_01]: If you were on this, of course, shadowing there.

[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're like, Oh, the bomb didn't go off on top then. This damn booby traps aren't quite working.

[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_00]: My favorite part of that entire scene is when Darrell is staring down this woman because, you know, what is it? The angels will send their most vicious,

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Demon to come do their dirty work in Darrell is the most vicious demon that was sit there way. He's about to shoot this woman in cold blood with no type of hesitation.

[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_00]: But then she disappears like that man just.

[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Yep, it's just poof to go on.

[00:10:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was like, are you just going to let him get away with, are you going to let her get away? Are we going to see more of this woman? Is there a reason why she was able to get away so swiftly?

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, I was trying to figure out in this.

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_00]: I started, if there's always to know about this lady, AJ, there's a reason is because it's episode one.

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_03]: It's because she's contracted for several more episodes.

[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Basically, you know, she has to speak speech. You know, it's like, it is kind of like, oh, we can't get, we can't let her get away.

[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's kind of the concept here. We can't let her get away because then she'll tell everybody that Darrell is behind this, this ambush.

[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, but they know that Darrell's behind this ambush.

[00:11:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, who else is it going to be?

[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_03]: It'd be a dude to stick?

[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_01]: No, it's not.

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_01]: But it's Darrell on behalf of the dude with the stick.

[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_01]: So sure.

[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_01]: We know we know the sides of the draw here is not like this is a big shocker.

[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_01]: And then they rescue the the flunkies from season one, the Falou and and the other dude who was in love with our friend.

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Me, or whatever, I could not remember these people's names to save my life.

[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_00]: That's how long it's been since we saw them.

[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_00]: What is Darrell's lady friend name? I guess La Rott, La Rott's guardian.

[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Isabel is a bell.

[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, she popped up. I was like, what is her name? Who are you?

[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they something.

[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_03]: The problem is our brains have just been like so poisoned by JK rolling that I actually look at her and you're just think she's flore.

[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_00]: You can build a decor.

[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she she popped back up.

[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_00]: And again, the memories start kind of like flooding back in from the last season.

[00:12:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I really should have we.

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go rewatch season one.

[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_00]: But it's necessary.

[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, good. Then one of us will have done that and you could watch it because I'm like, there's something about this lady.

[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm supposed to remember, I don't.

[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_00]: They don't really get into it in the first episode.

[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_00]: But her and Darrell are still exchanging a lot of longing.

[00:12:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Glets is this stuff. So yeah, like AJ said, they're trying to let us know that something's going on, you know, something's a miss.

[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_00]: But we don't quite figure out what that is yet because I think our goal this season is going to be more focused on Carol.

[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_00]: They're calling this the book of Carol.

[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_00]: So we find Carol about to do something incredibly stupid just in the zombie apocalypse.

[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_00]: She wants to fly across the ocean.

[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I was wondering how they were going to get Carol over there.

[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Like because they said, yeah, we haven't seen that other boat in a really long time.

[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if it's coming back.

[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_03]: So how should I do that?

[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I this is very Amelia Earhart.

[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm.

[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_03]: That's a tiny ass plane.

[00:12:59] [SPEAKER_03]: I have some questions.

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_03]: And he's wired it to run on FN all.

[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_03]: That he makes.

[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_03]: That he makes.

[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm.

[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Beyond that, Jess.

[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_01]: He found this plane wrecked somewhere else and brought it back to his house and put it back together piece by piece.

[00:13:17] [SPEAKER_01]: So now the manual.

[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_01]: And he knows how to fly.

[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Does he have the plane that he himself has constructed out of a kit essentially?

[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_03]: And for this is like a really big model airplane.

[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_00]: This is one of the craziest things we've ever seen on this show.

[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_00]: And I stand on that.

[00:13:34] [SPEAKER_00]: And we saw a wrestling match between zombies.

[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_00]: And this is absurd because anybody who will get, who will on a plane to fly to Europe on a homemade plane of homemade ethanol in a dinosaur.

[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. Oh yeah.

[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_03]: And we're going to just stop in Greenland and re-up.

[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_03]: You're just going to stop in like the ethanol station in Greenland.

[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_03]: And you're just, it's a big place.

[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_03]: It's a really big place.

[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know where you think you're going to land.

[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.

[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Just going to sit and ethanol out of whatever whatever.

[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's the story in.

[00:14:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you just, you're just going pull up and be like,

[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, perfect.

[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_00]: We can just gas up here.

[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_00]: This is a crazy plan.

[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_00]: But what's even crazier is that Carol was going to try to steal that plane.

[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_00]: That woman was going to try to fly that plane to France on her own AJ.

[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_00]: And you can not tell me different.

[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_01]: No, she absolutely was, you know,

[00:14:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I think the only thing that she wasn't going to do was kill this new friend of hers ash.

[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think she would have killed him for the plane.

[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I think she probably would have tried to get rid of it under dark of night or something like that.

[00:14:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Or, you know, try to come to the walk them outside and maybe take off herself while he was trying to get back in.

[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think she would have killed him for the plane.

[00:14:53] [SPEAKER_01]: But I love the fact that she emotionally blackmailed him for you.

[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_01]: So the plane and most of my pride, like, you know,

[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_01]: this series is just nonsense.

[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_01]: We're finding all flaws in it.

[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_01]: But what they get is not a flaw is that she acts the crap out of Carol every single time.

[00:15:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Look on her face when she decides to, you know what?

[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to use the lie.

[00:15:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And now I'm all in.

[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And just that remorse.

[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm all in.

[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I love that.

[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I love that sequence and the way that she would manipulate this guy for like 15 to 20 minutes to finally, like, say, you're coming with me.

[00:15:34] [SPEAKER_03]: And yet the great thing she's on,

[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_03]: maybe letting us, yes.

[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I went through like the first half of this thinking.

[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_03]: She's totally on the up and up on this.

[00:15:43] [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm like, no, but it's Carol.

[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_03]: She's got to have something else going on.

[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_03]: And then she, at the point where she says, you know, I was married once.

[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I like, oh, oh, here we go now.

[00:15:55] [SPEAKER_03]: She's going to use like a crum of her backstory.

[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_03]: And she's going to spin it into something bigger.

[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_03]: And then she starts telling the lie and like, oh, oh, this is the Carol we know in love.

[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.

[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. She has not thought this plan through.

[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I, one of the first things as tell to her.

[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_00]: If I pick up on any falsities, any fantasies, any lies, any falsehoods, you're done.

[00:16:20] [SPEAKER_00]: You're done.

[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Carol's neck move is too live.

[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_00]: She's like, all right, let me lie on the soul of my dead daughter and his dead son.

[00:16:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's put this all together and get us to France.

[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_00]: So when she first started telling the lie,

[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I just started shaking my head because I was like, this poor man, Ash,

[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_00]: he does not know what he just got approached by.

[00:16:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Carol is like the Tasmanian devil when she wants something, she can get it.

[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_00]: And she's going to stop at nothing to do that.

[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_00]: He's asking her all the hard hitting questions.

[00:16:52] [SPEAKER_00]: So how do you think you got to find Sophia?

[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_00]: What do you think we're going to do when we get there?

[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Where are we going? What is going on? She's just like, yeah, I got to address,

[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, her, Ed's aunt.

[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_00]: She's over there somewhere after we just pull up our eyes.

[00:17:06] [SPEAKER_00]: One, two, three, France street, French city, France.

[00:17:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Right. I'm sure I can find it.

[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, you know, drop me off in France with a GPS and something to find out

[00:45:36] [SPEAKER_03]: harboring a giant lie?

[00:45:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And when the giant lie comes to a head, it is all,

[00:45:41] [SPEAKER_03]: you know, it is a flashpoint of controversy.

[00:45:45] [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like we might be hitting a lot of the same beats

[00:45:48] [SPEAKER_03]: that we did in dead city just with different characters.

[00:45:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like that's the walk in dead demo.

[00:45:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that we've done a lot of storylines multiple times.

[00:45:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Was anybody shocked when we found out that Ash had a son

[00:46:07] [SPEAKER_00]: to them and they all cannot move on with their life

[00:48:12] [SPEAKER_01]: she did the fake flashback to Sophia coming out of the barn.

[00:48:18] [SPEAKER_01]: you're remembering that this happened to her.

[00:48:46] [SPEAKER_00]: because it's in a very long time.
