Welcome to Recap Kickback where we chop it up about black entertainment news and discuss all of our favorite movies and shows.
Before Chappell and Gia get to Why Did I Get Married Again? on Netflix, they’re going back to where it all started!
In Episode 1 of 3 of the Recap Kickback’s Why Did I Get Married? franchise recap, Chappell and Gia revisit Tyler Perry’s 2007 classic and meet the four couples at the center of all the love, lies, arguments, secrets, and relationship drama.
From the couples retreat that was supposed to bring everyone closer together to the cheating scandals, friendship drama, questionable decisions, and those moments that had us asking “WHY DID YOU MARRY THEM?!” 😂 — Chappell and Gia are getting into all of it.
This is the first stop on our journey through the entire Why Did I Get Married? franchise as we revisit the movies leading up to Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? on Netflix.
Then come back for Episode 2, where we recap Why Did I Get Married Too? before the franchise brings us to its newest chapter.

[00:00:20] Hey, what's up fam and welcome back again to Recap Kickback. It's me, your host Chappelle and I'm back again with another series. It's been a while since we've done one of these, but you might be able to think back to the, I guess, the South African series that Gia and I have done that took the world by storm so long ago.
[00:00:42] And so we had to give you something like that to commemorate the release of the third movie in the Why Did I Get Married series. It is now on Netflix. And so in order to talk about that, we decided to go back to where it all began and talk about why did I get married? One, why did I get married again? Two, why did I get married again? In whatever order that is. And with me to do that, Gia Worthy. Gia, welcome back.
[00:01:06] Chappelle, it's been a while and summers always are off time for me and you doing like regular podcast episodes, especially with Abbott Elementary being on hiatus for right now, but we have gotten some pictures for the new season. So I am very excited about all of that as we are, we are one month away. So I cannot wait for the next season of Abbott Elementary, but we need something to keep us entertained.
[00:01:31] We recently did a recap of a Pearl Island episode defending Austin and Andrew Savage with Christine Palin. But I think that's the, that and our Brant Steeles that we've done over the summer that our big brother Brant Steel, those were, those were kind of our big projects. So I'm excited that with this new, why did I get married?
[00:01:56] Movie in the, why did I get married cinematic universe has brought us to today because, you know, we love a trilogy and we love to recap those trilogies. And it's one of our, it's one of the great perks in life on recap kickback. So I'm very excited to be talking about this because I think this is probably my favorite of the Tyler Perry movies. Okay. I'm excited to talk about it too. Yeah. Is that, is that a high bar? Are the others, Tyler Perry movies in close contention?
[00:02:26] Um, I mean like the Medea movies get me, you know, like I know, I know, like, should I be laughing at every joke that I laugh at in the Medea movie? Probably not, but you got it. You got it a little bit. You know, I, I am easily amused. Um, I think that for like the, why did I get married movies, especially the first one, which, um, I, I cannot, you know, no offense to two and three, but this is, this is going to be the best one of, of the franchise that we talk about.
[00:02:56] But I would say that, you know, there's a couple that I really enjoy, a couple that I kind of like can live without. I'm not as big a fan of the dramedies or drama ones as the comedies in here.
[00:03:08] But I do really like the cast of characters in why did I get married? And I think that's part of the reason why I like it so much. And while I don't agree with a lot or most of the lessons that are in this movie, I don't care. I don't agree with a lot of, uh, how the message is delivered in particularly.
[00:03:28] However, I do think that, uh, there's a lot to dissect with it and the cast is great. And I think that definitely helps. And if you're watching it as like a soap opera type show, you know, like you're reading it as like, you're not taking this too seriously. Then I think it's a really enjoyable watch.
[00:03:46] Yeah, I agree. Uh, if you want to catch me and Gia talking about another trilogy, you have to go and catch our how to ruin Christmas, uh, South African trilogy that we did a way back when that is still getting views to this day. Thank you, South Africa for being supporter of recap kickback. Um, but yeah, I'm very excited to talk about this as well.
[00:04:05] So I have not watched. Why did I get married in such a long time Gia? And I really want to know if it's like going to hold up with in the trilogy, right? Like now that we're up to the third one, um, why did I get married again? Um, you know, I want to see like, you know, what, what changes we make in the cast, what changes we make in the plot, what the characters develop and to even speculate if there might be maybe an additional movie. I don't know that this is going to be the fourth one. Uh, we know that Tyler Perry and Netflix go hand in hand. He had a fat contract with them.
[00:04:35] And so, uh, he makes sure to give them the content whenever they need it. So I could see that for sure. But for this assignment, Gia and I have not gone back and rewatched the second one and we have not yet seen the most recent. Why did I get married? And so we're just going to be talking about the first. Why did I get married here? Uh, on this episode. If you have any questions or comments or something about anything we say, of course, leave it in our, in our comments on YouTube, youtube.com slash at recap kickback. You can subscribe there. [00:05:05] We'll subscribe to you for this entire series as well. So, um, yeah, as much as I've said, I have not seen this movie in such a long time. The clips be everywhere, Gia. And you know, which clips I'm talking about. The dinner party scene comes up every Thanksgiving with a shot of Angela in her boom, like pose. You all know the one boom. And it's people saying how I'm rolling into the family function this year.
[00:05:33] You know, every, every, every Thanksgiving time we get in hot, any just holiday season, when we're talking about the iconic dinner table moments, this is in contention. And dare I say, there's not much that can top it. You know, if there's one thing that, uh, Tyler Perry knows how to do, it's, uh, create some iconic moments. I don't know. And again, not everything he puts on all his movies is, uh,
[00:06:00] uh, ideology that I subscribe to. And I think, especially with the relationship aspects of things. However, the highs of Tyler Perry movies are so high in this dinner party scene is, is up there. You know, we have some really good highs and some really low lows. Like, uh, you know, we're not watching, um, two and three, but I have heard there are some questionable hair pieces in as well. So I'm looking forward to that.
[00:06:31] Okay. So, um, yeah, Gia, we got to talk about the plot of this movie. Uh, basically you have four couples who have also been best friends since college. Uh, and we hear, we get to meet all of the couples and learn a little bit about their relationship through the lens of, uh, Janet Jackson through a perfect Patty. Patty, uh, is an author and, uh, she wrote a book called why did I get married?
[00:06:56] And apparently she used her friends as examples in her book. Um, her, her students, she teaches a class, her students, or she does at least lectures at the very least. Um, but they, they, uh, are asking specifics about each of these couples cause they read about them in the books. And so we're kind of getting, um, Janet or Patty's, uh, it's going to be so hard for me not to call this lady, Janet. Uh, it's going to be perfect Patty's point of view of, of what these, uh, people are like, but then also,
[00:07:21] we get to see them up close. And you know what? Um, even though, even though her name is Patricia or Patty and in the movie, she's still, she's still Janet to me in here. She's still Janet. Every time she says something, any crash out she has anything like that. I'm like, you go Janet. Janet, you that's my girl. It was great. It was great. And you know, I, um, I think it's why, first of all, just the, uh, you know, the, uh, scholar, the former scholar in me here, girl,
[00:07:51] why using people's real names in your book? And that's a study like that is a immediate red flag. Like this, this bitch did not get IRB approval. First of all, cause you're telling everybody you're feeling and they say it's with, with permission, but we never hear them discuss this book or like any royalties that they receive from being part of this study. And I assume they're doing it because
[00:08:15] they love their friends so much. However, doing all that and including their real names in the, in the said study is wild and letting college students ask about the marriage state of all of them, including you and your husband. So, um, wild start here. However, as a former college student myself, I totally get like, I, I don't care about the educated mind. Tell me we have so many questions
[00:08:40] about your last book here. Cause that was the juicy one. Right. Uh, exactly. She's a psychologist. And so, yeah, I, I have to say there might be some questions about, you know, the ethics of her putting her friends names in these books for sure, but that does not stop these people from asking about them. And so, uh, let's kind of go through these couples. Uh, we meet Terry and well, Dr. Terry Brock
[00:09:03] and Diane, um, uh, Esquire, I'm sure. Um, Brock, uh, they are, uh, the, the couple of Tyler Perry and Sharon Leo, uh, this couple, there's clearly some tension between the two of them. Uh, he wants to spend time with them or with her on this upcoming, uh, friends trip getaway that they have. Uh, and she is a career woman and she's answering her phone. Um, very Charlotte pickles of her, you know, so she's,
[00:09:30] she's handling business, but he can, he's not in, he's not enjoying that. She also alludes to him having control issues. And so throughout the movie, uh, his battle is that he wants more of her time, but he also wants, he's demanding more of her time, right? Like she's wants to do things with her job. She has a very important job. Uh, but because he wants her time, she needs to stop and give it to him. And from her, from his point of view, you know, he, she's being closed off to him. She really, he really
[00:09:58] wants to her to be more present in the relationship. Um, but you know, she's got other interests because of work. And so we're going to follow the two of them. I will say this. I can't ever wrap my head around Tyler Perry, the actor as Tyler Perry, you know, um, okay. Yeah. He, he's got it's when he starts shouting and it gets a little shrill. Yeah. It sounds like Madea. He does. Sir. Ma'am, do not
[00:10:28] raise your voice at me like that. Right. Granny chill. Yeah. Yeah. I, I, I enjoy like, it feels like an Easter egg every time Tyler Perry puts himself in one of these movies, like there he is. But can I, can I, Terry may have pissed me off more than anybody else besides Mike in this movie and Trina, but you know, we'll get to that later. Can I just talk about this? This pisses me off so fucking much because look, this is the movie poster for the original. Why did I get
[00:10:57] married? Why is Terry front and center with Patricia? That makes no sense. They're not the main couple. They're not the, uh, Terry. I get that it's Tyler Perry's movie, but he does not need to be front and center. This is not, he is not the main character of the men here. If anything, the front two, I could see Gavin and Patricia in it. Yeah. Or if we're doing, uh, you know, like the main source of tension here, which we'll get into Sheila and Mike, definitely front and center. And then if
[00:11:27] we're going on, who entertains me the most? Like, why are you guys watching this movie? It's because you saw clips of Marcus and Angela. So like Terry and, uh, Diane, they're not even in factored in. I could make an argument for like Gavin and Patricia in that they are like supposed to be the moral compass. She wrote the book. Yeah. She wrote the book. It's the thing that like everyone's focused on. We get introduced to them first as like, they're the ones introducing all the other couples
[00:11:55] here. So I could, I could make sense of that, but it really should be Sheila and Mike, uh, front and center for like what this movie is actually about. And then if we're going on moral compass, like, like the, the grounded characters, then it's, uh, Patricia and Gavin. And then by entertainment, it is absolutely Angela and Marcus. So it does not, this does not make sense. The logic here does not add up. I am willing to believe that, uh, that, uh, Diane's assessment that Terry has control
[00:12:25] issues here. Oh, well, I mean, if you were looking for any proof, this is definitely it. Okay. Um, yeah, he's telling her like, leave your phone. You're not, you're not, he says, you're not answering that phone on this, on this trip. It's like, Hey, it's funny that you're telling a grown person what they are and are not going to do, you know? So it's like, although I understand him wanting her to be more present on the trip and she's probably made different commitments to say, Oh,
[00:12:51] you know, I won't work as much, you know, these types of things, but telling her what she's going to do does not really help you. If you think we should be taking your side about whether or not you should, you have control issues. And so, um, that will definitely come up in other ways as well. Um, let, let's talk about Patty and Gavin, because I think we need to leave those other two couples for the end because of, you know, for reasons you've already kind of outlined, but perfect Patty, uh,
[00:13:18] Dr. Patricia, um, she is a psychologist and she's written this book about couples and, uh, keep your marriage together, together. But it's very clear early on that maybe her marriage isn't all it's cracked up to be. Uh, even the moment we meet Gavin, he's just kind of in the background and she's asked about them as a relationship. He's like, uh, my husband's here. Uh, and, um, you know, I think there's a point where it comes up that Gavin and Patty don't have a child yet.
[00:13:47] And it gets kind of tense. They don't really talk about it, but throughout the entire movie, she's saying child comes up, they get quiet child comes up. She gets quiet, you know? So it's like they're breadcrumbing us to ask like, well, what happened to the damn kid? And, uh, we'll find out later on what that is. That college student that asked about the state of her marriage and then also put in like, and I am so sorry for your loss prison, prison for that one. Go to jail.
[00:14:13] That is a wild thing to ask somebody to her face. But also for my messy ass. Yeah. Ask her again. What's the answer? Also, what's the answer, Patricia? Before she go to jail. Because you tell her what she's saying. It's not an answer. Right. Right. Exactly. Yeah. No, bring Gavin back up here. We want to hear. We want to hear. Um, I think that this is probably the couple from this movie. I have not seen what the troubles are. Like I said,
[00:14:41] I haven't watched the second movie like since it came, like it's been a long time. Um, and I haven't seen the third one at all, but the, uh, what was it? Um, but I do think that of, for this movie, this is the most realistic of like a struggle for a couple where it's like, this
[00:15:05] is not necessarily that like either is at fault. It is more so that they went through a traumatic experience. And because of everything that leads up to what we find out happened, um, this is kind of just like normal psychological reactions to experiencing something so awful, but also there are clearly some things that they still need to work on as well. So this is almost the one that like
[00:15:29] from this movie alone, I could definitely see like, these are very real issues that could not be solved from them just talking it out, but they do need to talk it out more. Like this is one where it's almost seems like the most, I don't want to say salvageable because I think they're going through the most trauma, but the one that seems like the most understanding for what they are going through and how they are acting here. Absolutely. And you're supposed to kind of believe that they would have a handle on it more than the rest of everybody else, because you know, she is a psychologist.
[00:15:58] She did write the book. And so this is supposed to be the couple that does the work. And so to see that they also have underlying issues, it is realistic because just because you're doing the work doesn't mean you're perfect and that things don't happen and trauma doesn't have it that you have to deal with. Uh, Malik Yoba is Gavin in this movie. And every time I see him, I'm like, uh, I think that's New York undercover. And so, uh, you know, there's a deep cut for those who know, they know. Um, but yeah, him and Janet are the, the, they're the straight laced couple,
[00:16:24] or at least supposed to be. And throughout, we will find out that their other friends have, uh, bigger issues, including the entertainment source for all of us throughout this movie. Uh, let, let me just, let me just outline this before we even get into this. One of the students is like, girl, I don't know how you could ever be friends with a friend like Angela. And Patty takes her time. She said, you know what, me and, me and Angela went to an HBCU together, you know, and she's a good, she's a smart person. She's a business minded. She's great.
[00:16:55] And I'd say that Patty undersells Angela. And that's why they asking questions like this, because if you told me this was Angela, Oh, of course we're friends. This is, this is my friend. Actually right now, this is my current friend, Angela in this movie. And I are friends. This lady is so funny. Tasha Smith as Angela Williams and her, um, I don't even know what their status is on the day to day, but, um, her partner, I guess I should say Marcus, uh, Michael John White. This is crazy.
[00:17:25] This is crazy. They're so funny together. Like this is funny. They bounce off of each other. So well, just from an acting standpoint, they're fantastic together. I love this pair. They are so toxic, but also they, I, again, have not seen either movie or I have not seen the third movie. I have not seen the second one a very long time. They need to leave other people alone and just be together. Like
[00:17:52] whatever stuff they're going through, don't bring other people into it. I know some people, Keisha, uh, brought themselves into it, but also like leave those other people alone. Just, you know, you guys need to stay married. Like there's not another option for me here. Yeah. They got some real world problems in their relationship for sure. Uh, cause yeah, Marcus. Yeah. This is a lot. It's a lot. This couple is a lot.
[00:18:18] There's layers to all of their problems there. Cause, and this is the thing I love about this movie. And I love, I think I love more so the discourse around this movie because like what you say, like what you said at the beginning, someone as we're introduced to the couple of Angela and Marcus, one of the, uh, one of the, uh, students in there are saying, I don't know how you could be friends with someone like Angela. I'm like, first of all, never speak on Angela's name like that again.
[00:18:47] Okay. First of all, collect yourself. You read a book about her. Okay. We've lived it. We know she didn't see the dinner table scene yet. She didn't know. She hasn't, she hasn't seen it yet. However, however, Angela is the type of friend you want to have of all of the P and this is one of the things that comes up in the discourse a lot. Cause we'll get into Sheila and Mike. The only person here that was not worried about the niceties of it all and
[00:19:12] wanted to just let her friend know the truth is Angela. Perfect Patty and Diane were too worried about like, it's not the right time. We want to wait for the right moment. They were never going to tell. They were never going to wait for that moment. Um, they were good. They were hoping it would either blow over or that somebody else would be able to take the heat for Sheila eventually find cause she was going to find out. She didn't already, uh, except like, I think a part of her
[00:19:42] knew, a part of her part of her knew, but she was never going to find out from Diane and Patty that that was just not going to happen. And I think they were, even though they wanted Angela to kind of lay off on telling her probably because of the vacation in particular, they didn't want their vacation ruined. Angela is the one that was standing on business and could not see, like could not stand
[00:20:07] to see her friend be mistreated continuously on their vacation. So this is exactly the type of friend that you want to have in situations like this. Cause she's the one that's going to give you the truth. Yeah. No, good point. Now they do have their issues as a married couple, you know, um, Marcus has a crazy, crazy baby mama. He also has some kids. He has a crazy baby mama. We also has a crazy wife because Angela don't care about the crazy baby mama. She's ready to go there every
[00:20:34] time he has a type. Keisha and Angela, they could be sisters the way they act, you know? And so, uh, he found somebody else who was going to, uh, I think he looked, he looked for that, right? He looked for a warhead strong woman and he found them. Now the problem here, uh, is that, uh, multiple things, right? Um, we will find out throughout that maybe Marcus has been sneaking around doing things he has no business doing. Um, maybe Angela could be accused of doing the same
[00:21:00] thing. Who knows? Uh, but she also has a drinking problem that we don't really ever address. I literally just finished rewatching this movie and I still forgot about the drinking thing. Cause they like sprinkle it throughout the movie, but this isn't even like top five of their issues as a couple right now. Yeah. She's on the train at one point there. Cause they're on their way. Of course. I mean, they're on a plane or yeah, I think they're on the train. They're on their way to the, um, to the cabin
[00:21:29] for this resort. And there's this couple behind them and they're talking loud. A couple's trying to get them to be quiet and she turns around and she lets them have it. She said, I don't give a damn about that damn dog. And I'm yelling at every line that Tasha Smith has in this movie. Um, it's just so good. It is. And the other problem that they have of course, uh, is that Marcus is Marcus can't stop
[00:21:53] lying. Uh, you know what I'm saying? So because of that, you know what you were saying? Yeah. They tell us this at the beginning of the movie, as soon as the girls are together, we know that Marcus ends his lies with, you know what I'm saying? Know what I'm saying? And then we see it sprinkled throughout, unaddressed throughout the movie. Yeah. But everybody knows. Everybody knows. It's been like keeping, keeping an eye out
[00:22:23] while we're watching though. And it comes up multiple times. Like it keeps coming up. He keeps saying it. It's like, this guy's just lying to lie. Yeah. It's like a sport for this man. Now that is the funny couple. Let me tell you about the couple that is not funny. Uh, Sheila, Sheila and Mike, you have this queen Jill Scott. This is perhaps the most unbelievable thing. And
[00:22:52] I'm talking about, this is above the dread wig or the like cornrows wig that Tyler Perry puts on, um, his light skin actors from time to time. I cannot, I, I watch this movie, you know, every, every couple of years rewatch, give it a good rewatch, uh, for old time's sake. I refuse to live in a world where Tyler Perry is trying to gaslight me into thinking Jill Scott is not attractive.
[00:23:18] Okay. Like she wasn't, she's been a baddie. So she's been a baddie. She was a baddie in this movie. They wanted to make her look dowdy so bad. And it's just, it did not work. Like, I'm sorry. You are, uh, you are, uh, married to Jill Scott. I'm going to need you to get the fuck over yourself. Yeah. Uh, Mike is the worst human there is. Uh, you know, it's just, he sucks. He sucks. Richard T.
[00:23:45] Jones, you will never live this down. You will never live this down. And as part of the advertisement for the third movie, so we can kind of assume that he's going to be at it, Richard T. Jones, he still is apologizing for how he treated Sheila. And you know what? I still don't forgive him. No, sorry. That was how good of an actor he was in this movie. Yeah, he sucks. This man sucks. And you're right. They, they can't really make Jill Scott look
[00:24:13] not like Jill Scott, but they try so hard and they keep telling us. She says it a million times. Mike says it a million times. There is not one time that he compliments her sincerely throughout the entire first part of this film. Yeah. There is no part. Everything that he says is a low blow about her weight, about her size, about how unattractive she is to him, mostly about her
[00:24:39] weight, but she's saying it too. Right. And so it's given us the vibe that she has like maybe some low self-esteem issues when it comes to this thing, maybe because she's married to a guy who just will not stop talking about her weight. But for me, uh, it's like, because she keeps saying it is like, eventually your brain is like, okay, well maybe that's not Jill Scott. Maybe she's not attractive because you got to beat us over the head with it to make it really make sense. Um, this couple's the worst. I mean, there's just nothing redeeming about this couple. And I started to question. Um,
[00:25:07] no, Sheila, tell me again, why did you get married? Did Mike ever like you? Did you gain weight in that? Just, it's like, we don't even know. This is, first of all, this is someone's life right now. Like there's somebody living out. I think this is what makes Mike not just an awful villain, like an, like an unforgivable, unredeemable, unredeemable, entire, entire Perry villain,
[00:25:33] just an unforgivable villain in, in general. Cause like, this is somebody's life. Like there is somebody going through this exact same thing right now, praying for like being shown the way how to save their marriage. And girl, prayer is not going to help you in this case. Prayer can be great in many ways, give you strength through tough times. I am not denying that prayer is not going to turn a evil man into a good one. You need to just cut your losses at that point. But Sheila is not that type of
[00:26:02] person. She is somebody that wants to stick through her marriage because she believes that, and you know, it is, we are, we are led to believe throughout this whole movie that like Sheila is a woman of God. I don't think that just because somebody is a woman of God, that they're going to fall into relationships like this. But I do think that sometimes religion can be used as a tool for
[00:26:28] some people in unhealthy relationships as a way for them to stay in those relationships. The same way that some people use money to keep people in unhealthy relationships. So this is kind of, it's a, it's a good example of how some of those things can be used to keep somebody in a situation that they know is bad for themselves, but it's also the low self-esteem. So it's hard. It's hard to see
[00:26:53] that not just that Mike is treating Sheila badly. So obviously in front of all of their friends, but also that like, people are just kind of letting it happen. None of his friends are saying you need to, like, there's, they clearly don't approve of how he's, uh, of how he's treating her, but they're not standing up for her. They're not telling her, telling him that he needs, he needs to cut the shit or anything like that. He just, they're just basically like rolling their eyes and
[00:27:20] annoyed at it as if this is just like another, it's just another Tuesday for them. Um, and while the girls are a little more outwardly outrage, only Angela is the one that's like, just calls it out for what it is. Um, so it's just, it's a mess. It's like this, it's almost like a PSA for like the dangers of trying to keep the peace. Right. Right. I was aghast at how fast that I was disgusted
[00:27:44] by this relationship. We meet them on the plane. Sheila, uh, immediately I, the red flags are just in the air. Right. She walks on the plane and then behind her is her husband, Mike with her best friend, Trina, uh, Trina, who is her friend, but yet the other people, this friend group that she meets up with every year for these couple of true has no clue who Trina is. They don't know her, but now all of a sudden this woman didn't work her way into the relationship. So she's a third party. You're
[00:28:13] bringing a third to a couple's retreat, red flag, red flag, unless this is a thrumples routine retreat. She ain't got no business being there. Next. Why is she sitting next to your husband and you sitting on the front, on the row in front of that? And she was like, she was just allowing it to happen. Like, yeah, like not that I, you know, this is again, unhealthy relationship dynamics. It's not me
[00:28:39] trying to blame the victim in here, which Sheila very clearly is the victim in this situation, but it's just so it's like not even three seconds of knowing this couple. And he's saying that he wants to be comfortable in his seat. So Sheila needs to sit in her own seat in the middle, which doesn't even make any damn sense. And then when she gets humiliated and kicked off the plane because of her size, her friend doesn't go with her. We already know the husband is garbage, but she is also just
[00:29:07] as bad because she is sitting there allowing it to happen. So she can go with her a fair man. And a couple's retreat that she wasn't even invited to. And even if you didn't think they were having an affair, you have to think there's something weird about her being okay with Sheila driving across straight state lines through the, through the winter's mountains, you know, to get to where they were going. Ain't no way. I don't care. First of all, I don't like any, any of my friends, significant others enough to be stuck
[00:29:36] on a plane with just them. Nope. But alone one where I know my friend is driving out in the snow. I do not give a fuck. I am driving with them. So that just red flags all over. Like this, this plane was flown on red flags at this point. It was just ridiculous from the very beginning. And I felt so bad for, I felt so bad for Sheila. Like, girl, what are we doing here? And you just went,
[00:30:00] you went on, like, you just, you thanked him for his money and then went on the train with them and like, or like drove yourself to, what are they in Colorado? I think it's where they're in Colorado. Yeah. So they just also side note, you want to go in, you guys go anywhere in the world at once a year on your trips and you're thinking, I mean, I'm with you on that one. You know, that would be my notes. I said, make sure you bring this up.
[00:30:25] Angela mentioned Jamaica and that, that was, I saw no problem there. You know, that was, that was a great answer, Angela, you know, family feud. Good answer. Good answer. Show me Jamaica. Right up there. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. No one's saying Leland, Colorado on here. Yeah. It's not happening. I think they, at one point they did point out who picked it. I think it was Patricia, but I still, whoever it was, you're down on my ranking for being a little
[00:30:55] wrong. Cause Jamaica was, was the move here. I cannot believe that this lady drove across state lines to go to this couple retreat. And she's, of course they're showing her, she's a devoted wife. She's calling, checking in, you know, Mike's on the plane or landed by this time, but she's like, you know, I love you. And she's praying. This woman has a paper map, a paper map.
[00:31:19] Like this ain't right. This, this, there's no map. She ain't got no app for that in 2007. I guess not. I mean, you could have had one of those little, uh, garments, what they call them, the little machines that like with the navigators and stuff like that. Like it's like, but there's like, you can like have them installed on the car or something, but like, still, what,
[00:31:41] what are we doing here? A paper map is a paper map. If there's one place you don't want to drive is Colorado up those mountains in the wood. Yeah. And they all keep mentioning the storm as they each come in there. So we know that it's coming. We know there's going to be a storm. We know that this is going to have something is going to happen to Sheila from here. And seems like everybody,
[00:32:06] once we get all of the, you know, like main couples, uh, besides Sheila there, everyone is concerned about Sheila's wellbeing except for Mike, except her husband and her friend. So yeah, I honestly despicable, terrible behavior, terrible husband, um, any karma he gets in the other movies. It's just simply not enough for my life. It's not enough. It's not enough. I need them underneath
[00:32:32] the jail somewhere. Yeah, no. Or yeah, I was gonna say Sheila, get a gun. Anyway, we'll come back to that. Um, why did I get married for it's just all the cast back together, but Sheila gets a gun. Sheila gets a gun. Now do the movie again. Let's start over. Do the first movie again. Give Sheila a gun. Let's see what happens. So Terry and Diane, we find out when they get to the cabin that, um, their issues are a little bit more about, you know, her working. She immediately comes in and she's
[00:33:01] like, Oh, I want to take a nap. Uh, and he's like, no, let's hang out. She's like, I'm sleepy. Um, turns out she is defending a 16 year old on trial for capital murder. I don't think they emphasize that enough because at first glance, it does seem like Tyler Perry's character has a point. Terry's like, we came on a couple of retreat, be present, be here. We're trying to make sure our marriage works. But she's like, it's a 16 year old on trial for a murder that they did not commit.
[00:33:28] I'm sorry, Terry, but this, this might have to wait. I do feel like I understand the idea that like you cannot let work overtake your personal life, you know, whether it's family, friends, you know, just in any situation, but, uh, like she just made partner and she's, uh, defending a 16 year old from double murder.
[00:33:54] I think you could cut her a little bit of slack. Just a little bit, just, just on this trip. Maybe once the murder trial is over, you know, we can reschedule. Yeah. The main, I think that's the main problem I have with this couple, the Diane and Terry couple is that they keep bringing up that there needs to be compromises, but it's only us hearing that Diane should compromise for Terry. And I have not heard once what Terry is compromising
[00:34:22] in this situation. Yeah. Well, they kind of get to that. Eventually it comes out that Terry wants a son and that's addition to the kid they already have. So to me, excess, excess children already, you're already in, you know, you're already doing too much, but you have, you have this surplus of child now that he's trying to pursue, you know, I have zero excess of children and the excess of
[00:34:48] children. And I'm like, Hey, you already got them. I understand to me. One of the first things I was able to conceptualize as a young, as a young man, but now as an elder statesman is that the, how terrified I would be of giving birth to something. Yes. Uh, being pregnant sounds awful to me. Uh, you know, anytime a woman tells me they don't want to do it, I'm like, you sound smart. You sound like a smart lady. Not to say that you shouldn't do it, but if you don't want to, I get that because
[00:35:16] that sounds awful. Uh, you know, the, the horror stories I've heard about people, especially with the way the healthcare is, is in America somewhere. If you go on Tik TOK and search up the list, it is just a list of all of the reasons not to give birth. And it's, it's horrifying, horrifying. Again, not saying people shouldn't have kids if they want them, but Diane has kind of made her sentiment clear here. And I don't think that Terry not getting a son is like a compromise for he, she,
[00:35:45] she gave you a child. You have one. You have, you have a beautiful little girl. Right. Deal with it. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. You can get over some of your own issues because of you having a son. Like if having a son is so important to you, you should have adopted so that you can get a son. And you can still adopt. Listen. And you're a pediatrician and you guys are a pediatrician and a lawyer. I'm sure you could adopt a son real quick. They will throw a child at you. I'm sure. But no.
[00:36:09] They'll throw several at you if you want. Yeah. He wants to keep his love line going and all kinds of stuff. Like, Hey, Hey, you're being dramatic. Move on. So yeah. So there, there, there's a lot of compromise going on in that relationship or at least not enough for each other. They, there's also the moment where she's asleep and he goes and answers her phone and he tells the secretary, don't call back. I said, I said, don't call back again. Telling grown folks what to do
[00:36:36] when you're not the boss of them is wild. And also like, you didn't tell your wife after that. And when she wanted to talk to you about why did you do that? You were like, Nope. So I, I unfortunately, uh, Terry, Terry is near the bottom of my ranking of, uh, who is the most wrong here. I like he was wild in this whole movie, whole movie here. And I think the thing that makes him more annoying than a lot of the people on this list is that like, at least with people like Mike,
[00:37:05] who is the worst, you know, Mike is clearly the worst of the bunch here, but, uh, we're never led to believe that Mike is wrong or is right in any, any way or form. Like there is not one part where they're like, well, you know, he's got a point here. Like, you know, no, this man's the devil and we all know he's the devil here. Um, but we're supposed to be like cheering Terry on for showing his wife a lesson about like her not wanting to be pregnant, um, with four kids, which also probably
[00:37:35] should have been the situation that you guys talked about before you got married. Um, cause you both seem pretty set on either having four kids or sticking with the one that you have. So I, you know, there's a lot, there's a lot in this couple to unpack, but I think that's the main issues I have with them. Not saying Diane is perfect. Um, she definitely could cut off a little bit of cell phone
[00:37:59] time here and there, but I felt like she should have a team. She should have a team at the law firm that can do stuff without calling her every two seconds. However, I think this is a special case. Yeah. This is, this is very interesting to look at, you know, and don't get me wrong. If you are a person who's listening to this and you're like, nah, I want to have a son. And that means a lot to me bet, but you probably should have that conversation with your wife before y'all got married, you know? So you knew that even though you love this person, they were not going to give you the one
[00:38:25] thing that you wanted and you can decide that's a deal breaker then, as opposed to being one kid in now, somebody lied. You know what I'm saying? Like, it feels like somebody led the other person to believe that they would be down with having one child versus four kids. And now that we're there, you know, we're having some issues. I see this a lot with like, you know, I'm in my thirties now where the, the dating pool is a lot different in my thirties than when it was in my twenties, because it's a lot of people that like clearly now want to get married and are ready to kind of rush
[00:38:55] into relationships. Um, it's not for me personally, but a lot of it is this idea of like, I need to have kids by a certain time and stuff like that. And then there's also a lot of people that think, oh, it's okay if this person doesn't have like the same values and family that I do, or the same religion that I do, or the same, um, like a political views that I do, because when we get married, we'll just like compromise on everything in marriage is about compromise. No, that's not really
[00:39:21] what happens. A lot of the time it's because a person thinks that they can change your mind. And I wonder if that's something that happened here is that, uh, they have talked about it before and that when, uh, someone I'm assuming Terry thought they could change her mind once they actually got married. Yeah. And again, that's just a recipe for disaster. Listen, it happens, you know, no judgment if it's happened, but you know, these are just the, the, the problems that were faced with at this, at this age and there's a point in their lives. Yes. And you know, that
[00:39:51] doesn't mean that people can't change their minds. Right. But that should be a conversation you have with your spouse. We're here talking about what we were told in a almost two hour movie. Right. Exactly. Um, the guys talk, uh, and they're doing the guy talk at some point, uh, we see Gavin and, uh, I'm sorry, Terry and Marcus talking and Marcus finally reveals that, oh yeah, Terry, you mind? I need a shot. And I'm like, oh God, the man, he said burns when he pees. And that
[00:40:19] means he'd been having some sex with people outside of his, uh, marriage. He like, you know, things happen. Angela just pushes him away from, you know, his words. He's like, you know, she, she's actually so mean and he likes the, he likes the fight. He likes the drama. You knew when you married her that she was mean, Marcus, you married her because she was mean. Listen to me. You liked that about her. Right. As, as a person who likes for a woman to be mean to him, I will tell you,
[00:40:48] you married her because she was mean. If she was nice, you would not have given her the time of day. Cause that would have been boring to you. So now she mean all the time. And I guess you thought that maybe, maybe she was giving you more affection to balance out the meanness at times. But, um, now that she's knee deep in her alcohol problem, she's probably a lot meaner than she was back then. I don't know. Maybe she was alcoholic when you married her. I don't know. I think she was still mean as hell to him, but she, there wasn't a baby mama. Like she had,
[00:41:16] they had a baby mama, but they didn't have to interact as much when they're like, you know, like it was different. It was different when they were dating versus when they got married. And they've been married for a long time. I think it like, I think they mentioned somewhere in there that it was like eight years or something. Oh yeah. That's a decent amount of time. Married for a long time, Marcus. You knew, you knew who you were marrying. Stop it. Stop it right now. She's a mean old drunk and you, and you liked it and now you don't like it anymore. At least
[00:41:41] you like the drama of going out and cheating, getting caught, arguing. He says it's the, it's the makeup that, that makes them, you know, it all worth it. And so you can tell this man is a crackhead. Him and his wife are both like insane people. Um, but it just goes to show you that some of these, some of this drama is a lot deeper, right? Like, you know, he, you have to tell your wife that you have an STD. Yeah. Yeah. Like, and they do, they do actually bring up some good points here as someone that was
[00:42:08] HIV, um, prevention, uh, instructor when I started my, my very early career here. Like the idea of like, you could have given her something you, you know, like, uh, black women are some of the leading cases of new HIV cases, uh, in the country because of situations like this where they, people have an STD and don't tell them. So there, there are some good points being thrown out during the movie.
[00:42:37] Um, it could never have prepared me for what we actually learned when we get to the dinner table scene though. Yeah. Um, so Trina. Yeah. We'll get to the dinner table. We'll get there. We'll get there. Yeah. We gotta, we gotta build up to that. Um, Trina and Mike, they get to the cabin and immediately these women should have sent Trina on her way. They should have said, Hey,
[00:43:04] they were way too chill for my life. Way too chill. Quite frankly, all of the lashing she got, there was not enough. And Angela was an army of one in this. And honestly, she should have done a lot more. And Trina had some nerve acting like there was nothing wrong with her being there. Her excuses that Sheila invited her, but to that, I would say, did Sheila invite you or did Mike tell you that Trina would, I mean, Sheila would be okay with it. And Sheila, who we know is a little bit of
[00:43:33] a pushover is going to just acquiesce to whatever, because first of all, Sheila invited you. That's an issue, but, but Mike, why did you, why were you okay with it? You know, why did you want a third party on your, again, if y'all have a third party in your bedroom, that's one thing. But yeah, if this was a, we'd have a whole other conversation. If this was like, we're poly now, that type of thing, fine. All right. That's cool. We know that we're not getting that in a Tyler
[00:44:01] Perry movie. Certainly not one in 2007. So exactly. Yeah. But yeah, this was, this was a while. And then if Sheila invited you, why weren't you going in the car with her? Right. You should be with that lady that invited you here. It's so bad. You know, like you said, Angela is ready to fire her ass up, but you know, the movie does kind of present it like, Oh, Trina might be just like, she might just be
[00:44:27] innocent. You know, maybe, maybe they're not doing anything, but we know what it is. Eventually. Even if they were not having an affair, right. Which is like next level impossible with the, like things we are introduced, like all of the signs that are there. It still makes no damn sense. If you are not having an affair with why you are fine with your friend driving out in the snow, you're not saying anything to her husband. You're not talking back to them. You're not standing up for
[00:44:56] your friend. Like what is wrong with people? What is wrong with you? No, this is bad. This is all bad. Um, so night one happens, uh, and Sheila is not there because Sheila, uh, has now hit the storm. The snow storm is happening and she can't make it up the mountain to where they are. And so she has to stop by the local sheriff. And this is where we meet Troy. And, uh, this is,
[00:45:22] uh, Lamon, uh, Rucker, I believe he's Troy Jackson, uh, the local police officer, the local sheriff. And he's telling Sheila, you can just stay here at, in the jail cell overnight until I can take you to the cabin. I mean, not ideal, but it's better than the car. It's better than the car in a winter
[00:45:44] storm. So, and it's, it's a bed. So not ideal, especially for her vacation, but at least someone is showing her some sort of compassion during an obviously terrible, like this had to have been like a 12 hour drive for her at this point. Yeah. This is awful. And he immediately looks like a better option than Mike because he doesn't seem bothered. We know why he's here. I've watched
[00:46:13] meet the Browns. We know why he's here. We know what's going on here. Um, yeah, he, um, he looks like a better option than Mike immediately because at least he's not bothered by her weight at all. Like it's clear that she's self-conscious, but he's just kind of like, okay. Uh, and so, um, they're going to spend the night there. And, uh, a few of the couples back at the cabin are going to have some issues. Um, you know, we'll see Terry and Diane. Terry's like, so you want to have sex? And Diane is like, no, I'm worried about my friend. I don't want to have sex. Um, Angela is like,
[00:46:41] so you want to have sex? And Marcus was like, uh, no, I'm worried about my friend. I'm worried about your friend. I'm worried about your friend. What are you talking about? Um, so, you know, there's not a lot of sex being had at the, at the cabin and we're still dancing around the, the, the conflict with Gavin and perfect Patty. They're not even really talking about it. They, they aren't, there's, there's a few slip-ups from people throughout that you can
[00:47:07] kind of piece together that they had a child that passed away. So at this, even it has not been like explicitly said at this point, I'm pretty sure, but we know from them like mentioning, like, I think Terry at one point mentions, like Gavin said, yo, Terry, you should have had four kids by now. And then Terry says, oh, you should have had two. And we know they had a loss. So you can kind of start picking together that they lost a child, but it's not until that, that dinner scene
[00:47:36] that we actually find out the, the full truth of what happened. And, um, but again, this is one of the, I think this is probably the most, this, I mean, not probably, this is the most traumatizing of the, the couple's problems that we experience in this movie. And it's terrifying to, you know, like that, that this is a real situation for a lot of couples that they have to come to terms with losing
[00:48:05] a child like that, but we don't know kind of like what happened in some, um, to lead up to this point. We don't know if the child was sick. We don't know if there was an accident. So we learn that later on, but there is this underlying tension with them to kind of, I think also to keep the peace, but also just they're in their refusal to not share any, like to not really talk about their issues,
[00:48:30] but they are somehow, a lot of the times they are like the moral compass of the group. They do lift each other up. Um, they actually have a lot of the couples they solve their, not solve, but they, uh, are able to work, begin the process of like working through, um, their issues, uh, in a healthier way than, uh, what all the other couples are doing. And, uh, they, they, it takes
[00:48:59] a while, but we are able to get to some type of, uh, resolution with them for this movie. Yeah. Um, the, the friend group all gets together eventually because Troy and Sheila also make it up the mountain and, uh, Sheila has been trying to hook Troy up with Trina, but for some reason, Trina is just, Trina's not interested in the single man. Mike seems to be very annoyed with,
[00:49:24] uh, Troy being there hitting on this single woman who had no business being here as well. And so, you know, the wheels are turning. Angela's ready to air it out. The only person happy about this situation is Angela. Right. Cause she's ready to air it out. She's like, I don't like her. She said, we, you know, we don't want to pass judgment until she's like, no, I don't like her. This is the thing that bothers me with this group. Besides everything I've already said, you know, I, I love this movie, but we need, we need to get to the face facts here.
[00:49:53] Everyone is acting like Angela is crazy for wanting to tell her friend the truth and also being mean to the other woman that has, uh, been invited on this trip with them and sleeping with their friend's husband. That like, you all could stand to be a little meaner. Y'all could stand to be a little rude like Angela, because what you are doing is not it. And keeping the peace for a mistress is insane. Yeah. There's a lot of secrets going on. A lot of secret keeping, uh, amongst the friend,
[00:50:21] but also a lot of, a lot of spilling of the drama, you know, um, the guys talk at some point, they're telling each other everything there. I mean, this was bound to come out. Everybody's drama was bound to come out cause they're all talking to each other about each other. So, uh, the guys talk and they're talking about how cheating and how, uh, you know, you could think about it, but definitely don't act on it. And Terry's kind of like, I mean, I thought about it. Marcus is of course, like I cheat. And, um, you know,
[00:50:47] we know good and well, Mike is here being like, well, you know, I'll never tell, even though his mistress is upstairs. Um, and so, uh, Gavin is like, nah, I ain't never done it. Um, but more power to y'all Marcus reveals that, um, you know, I think that, well, no, I guess Terry reveals that it's been, it's been a while since maybe him and Diana been intimate. Uh, you know, obviously she's saying like, she doesn't really want to have any kids. And so we're kind of getting the gist there that, okay, maybe she's not being intimate because she doesn't want to get pregnant and he's feeling like she's so distant from him because she's not having sex with
[00:51:17] him. Um, and, uh, yeah, so all of this drama is bound to come out. We also see the scene where Mike is sneaking out of his room into Trina's room. So we know that we already knew what was going on there, but we already knew. Um, but Angela did see it. Uh, they go out into the city. They're all shopping for clothes. Uh, Trina being the good friend she is, is, uh, Oh, Oh, uh, Sheila,
[00:51:41] you should put on this lingerie for Mike. And she buys my least favorite scene in the whole thing is when she really, I hated it. I hated it so much. It's like, not the lawn, not the shopping scene specifically. Um, cause Trina gets her lashing, gets some lashings from Angela and that's always fun to see, but just the, like the way that he mocks her when she's clearly trying to make
[00:52:07] their marriage work. And she does not, even if we think she, she knows some part of this situation is that there is something going on. Like he is being unfaithful, but she's trying to put in work here to make sure that like their marriage is salvageable. And she's willing to admit the things that she thinks she could change. Sheila, you don't need to change anything. Just your husband's a piece of shit. You need to change your martial status is really the only thing I would suggest
[00:52:34] here. But the, the fact, and I think Sheila also possesses a quality that is great in relationships in that you are able to look at yourself and see things that you might want to change about yourself or things that you want to do better so that for you, for you and also for your partner, but, um, which does not exist with a lot of people in romantic relationships. So I want to give her
[00:53:01] kudos for that. The problem is that a lot of those people will end up in relationships with people that will take advantage of that. Like she's willing to make changes and better herself for the sake of her marriage. And her husband knows that and is willing to take advantage of it and mistreat her the way that he does because she's not going anywhere. Yeah. Good point. And also, but like, it's not a character flaw to, to like have some meat on your bones. Okay. Like that is not an act that
[00:53:29] I'm not saying that losing weight is like a, is something that people should be doing. I'm just, or something that will fix anybody's marriage. Just want to be clear. So we finally get to this dinner scene because the tensions have been building. Wait, wait, wait, before we get into that real quick, do we need, should we start, talk about the 80 20 rule real quick? Cause that kind of sets a lot of stuff up for the second half
[00:53:56] of the movie. And it's brought up around like right before the dinner party. Right. Cause Gavin has all the answers, right? He's talking to the bros and they're talking about the cheating and have you ever, have your eyes, your eyes wandered? Have you ever cheated again? Terry is, his eyes are wandering because he hasn't been having sex with his wife for him. That's his compromise. Right. So he's like, Hey, I I'm looking, you know, but Gavin says, you got to think about
[00:54:20] the 80 20 rule. Um, in most cases in a marriage, you get 80% of what you want to need, but you can't leave the per the 80% to go get the 20% that you're missing because that'll only be 20, 80 is greater than 20. Thus you should work on the 80 that you have. Uh, what did you think about this concept? I hate the way it was presented, right? Like, because it feels very objectifying on like how
[00:54:49] you're basically talking about women, like they're like percentages and that like, oh, you're only going, you know, like this person is your 80%. This person is your 20%. Like these are people, these are women. Um, however, I do think that a lot of this does kind of explain some of like the psychology that can go into like being unfaithful in a relationship like this is this idea that like there's something missing. You're not happy in your relationship for one reason or another.
[00:55:18] Maybe you've just been married for a long time and you're wanting something new. You're bored with yourself. So then you start looking for other options, but those other options are not like the person you marry, the person that you have made this commitment to, to support each other throughout your life. So I think that it can teach some valuable lessons. I just hate the way it was delivered. What about you? Yeah. Yeah. I thought it was interesting. I thought that I was like,
[00:55:45] is this one of those, those things that's in Terry and Terry's book? I mean, I mean, in Patty's book, you know, cause Gavin and Patty do the, the, you know, the relationship stuff. So I was like, Oh no, I don't know. But I, yeah, I definitely get what you're saying. You know, it was like, um, you feel like you're missing one thing. And so you're like, I'll go find that one thing, whether it be physical or even emotional connection with somebody that, but you, there's a reason why you got with this person in the first place. It was the 80 that got you with them in the first place. And so it was kind of like, well, if you had the 80, why would you leave that for the 20?
[00:56:12] That makes total sense. Sometimes people get in a relationship with somebody and they're never getting 80. They were never getting 80 to begin with. And so that's, what's pushing them out. Um, I would say that Sheila, there's no way you're getting 80 from Mike. There's no way, there's no way. That's why I want to, and that's why I want to know why she answered the question, why she ain't asked the question yet. Why did you get married? Why did you get married? And also like, I don't even think he's your 20. I think this is like your five, right? I'm not quite sure what you're getting from
[00:56:38] him. What are you getting besides a ring? Right. Yeah. I think, and it also, I, I don't know if you're in on a lot of like the TikTok discourse or anything like that, but it was like the, uh, Chappelle said, absolutely not. But there is conversations about, you know, like women that are male centered, women that believe like they are just blessed to be chosen, to be married and things like that. And I don't necessarily think Sheila is male centered,
[00:57:07] but I do think she forced one reason or another felt at the beginning of this movie that she was just lucky to be married and not looking at the quality of the marriage that she has combined with the fact that she's more willing to be critical of herself than maybe the average person would be, especially in situations like this. Yeah. It's gotta be something because I still want to know how the dating happened, right? How did Mike even convince you? Why did Mike convince himself that
[00:57:34] he wanted to be married to you? Something must've happened. Um, maybe we'll find that out in the third movie who knows. Uh, so we get to dinner and, uh, they're all toasting to love. And, you know, I think at this point we find out about Patty getting an award in a few weeks. And so a lot to look forward to for these people, but the pettiness starts very quickly after that. Uh, Mike is concerned about Trina and Troy just a little too much. Mike says Trina ain't going with Troy. Um, but then Angela
[00:58:03] starts to kind of pick up on that. Um, she says, I may be a little drunk, but someone at this table has some secrets and Angela reveals that Trina is sleeping with Sheila and Sheila is legitimately shocked. Um, but, uh, Mike don't care. He does not even like look remorseful at all. She was like, really? Oh my God. In front of his friends. Like it feels like he wanted this to happen. Like,
[00:58:33] let me bring Trina on the trip so I can hard launch this new relationship. I, I don't know how he thought this was going to go, but I agree with you. I think this is what he thought was going to happen at some point. Cause he seemed ready to go with, uh, the, I want a divorce announcement in there. And maybe he thought that Trina was just going to integrate in well with the group, which I don't know. Or like, or that the women, the other women and this
[00:59:00] trip would, it would just deal with it. Um, Angela has been coming for your next sir. I don't know what you thought was going to happen here, but, um, you know, he, he was ready to go. As soon as Angela brought out his secret, he was ready to take it to hell. And I almost could see on like a evil perspective of like, okay, I could divulge, you know, Marcus's little secret about, uh, the VD.
[00:59:26] He, he contact, he contracted. However, then he starts bringing in Diane and Terry, Patricia and Gavin, all those people. It's just like, no, what is they, they've been playing along for the sake of all of you. Um, what the hell, what the hell, Mike? You're just, you're just tearing everybody left and right. And they didn't even have anything to do with this, uh, reveal.
[00:59:54] And see that that's what I'm saying. Mike sucks. Like as a, as a homeboy, even like we didn't told you way to try our business and how you airing us out. Like Gavin, not even in this. So why are you bringing up what Gavin and Patty said? You know, they didn't do nothing. And one thing I did like about this friend group, when we're seeing like the women talking together and the men talking together is that the men were not like Marcus a little bit, but like the other two, they were not saying that like, Oh my good job or anything.
[01:00:21] They're calling him out on his behavior. Same as the women are calling him out on his behavior. And they're telling him to his face that like, this is not it, but he's a grown man. He's going to make his own decisions. I think that's one of the things that this, this does right. Is that like the relationships within their own gender are really good. However, this is like, this was messed up. And then of course, Mike is, that's why Mike sucks. He's taking
[01:00:50] it to hell and he's taking down everybody with him. And the person he was trying to hurt the most is probably the most unbothered by the end of this. Because if anybody's going to take it to hell with you, it's definitely Angela. She's like, let's, let's get at it. So you want to talk about my husband's VD? Let's talk about my VD first, which is crazy. So, um, no, this is too much. So, uh, Mike announces that Terry got a DNA test
[01:01:19] because he didn't think that his daughter was his, uh, Diane got her tube ties and didn't tell, uh, didn't tell Marcus or hold on. Didn't tell Terry. Yeah. Didn't tell Terry. So they got a lot going on in their relationship. Gavin came and cried at his home because he felt like his wife was so stupid for not strapping the baby in the car. And of course the line was drawn for me.
[01:01:45] I mean, they were not even a part of this. They weren't even any, I mean, to be fair, Diane and Terry weren't in it either. You know, uh, they already kind of suck. Gavin and Patricia were actually like, they were actually trying to like, keep the peace and like, someone died. They are someone, they lost a child. They lost a child. You don't need to re-traumatize them. They are going through it themselves. Mike, me and Mike wouldn't be friends anymore. The fact
[01:02:13] that they were able to keep Mike around after this is crazy. He was there at Patricia's, uh, right. Her award dinner. And she was, and with his mistress now girlfriend, and you were the one that was like telling him about telling her about how your, her husband inclined her house about, uh, your son's death. That ain't no way. Yeah, absolutely not. There would be security at the door with a picture of this man saying, do not let, do not let this
[01:02:42] bald-faced man come in. I know this, this, this, uh, this is an actor we're talking about. We're talking about Mike and Mike sucks. And he would not be invited to my award dinner if he did all that shit to me. That's crazy. This is like the craziest, most intimate thing you could snitch on somebody about this man came crying to you. There there's like below the bell. And then there's like, I went below the bell and then I took a shovel and continued digging. And that is what,
[01:03:10] what this is. I can almost stand to lose like Terry and Diane as a couple in this for, to protect Janet Jackson's piece here. Like that was, uh, I know all the couples stay together in this, at the end of this movie, but like, if we had to pick one to go, you know, that, that besides Sheila and Mike, but you know, that is, uh, you know, I could lose to, I could stand for a Diane
[01:03:35] Terry divorce. Yeah. I don't see how Gavin and Mike ever become friends again. This is crazy. Um, nothing happened like, Oh, how's Trina? Yeah. Crazy, crazy. They do make fun of him a lot though, moving forward, which I do appreciate, but it's honestly not enough for me. He would, I don't know, maybe him and him and Patty are like distant cousins or something like that, you know, there has to be something going on. Like extra say how they, so Gavin and Terry
[01:04:02] were in, went to college together. And then, uh, Angela and Patricia went to college together. Uh-huh. And Diane and, um, and, and Patty were, uh, roommates. Okay. So they all met at college and then the guys are all, and then Gavin and Terry, did they all go to college together except for like maybe Marcus or I don't know where these other people came in, but I don't, I don't know.
[01:04:31] We didn't really get into the men. Sheila, I think might've gone to college with them too. I can't remember if, uh, Angela said something. I, we, we don't have time for that, but that that's just what I'm saying. You know, like there, this is just wild. The whole thing was wild. I would not, Mike and I would never be talking again. Yeah. Um, he of course also outs Marcus's STDs. And this is where you think it's about to go completely off the rails because Angela
[01:04:59] is the one who knocks. They should be afraid of her. And so she's like, Oh really? Tell me about that. Who'd you get it from? You know? And so he's like, was it Keisha? You know? He's like, what? No, I wasn't. He's like, was it Walter? Like what? Walter? I'm not gay. She's like, no, I got, I got it from Walter and I gave it to you. I just waiting on you to say something. Boom.
[01:05:20] Boom. Now, if that is not Angela is Marcus's karma. Let me say this was, it's evil. I do not recommend passing around STDs to people, but this was so satisfying in the moment. So satisfying. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. I can't be mad at him for, for cheating. Cause she cheating. They y'all cheating together. Y'all are both cheating. And that's why this couple needs
[01:05:46] to leave everybody else alone. Like they can't be with other people. I'm sorry. They need to just stick it out with one another because they're just doing it for the love of the game at this point. Just to see who's catching who. My favorite moment, of course, is the domestic violence of this all. Marcus being like, you're so evil. And he choked her. He goes to choke her. They pull her back. He's like, you're just so damn evil. Like his voice goes up several octaves. You, I felt it in this scene.
[01:06:14] He was so disgusted. He was hurt. Yeah. She, she put her foot firmly on his neck. Like, I do not condone cheating. I think it is like a non-starter for any relationship. Your relationship can't be saved once the cheating starts. Right. Except for Marcus and Angela. And I also just need, like, they are my favorite couple in this, in this cinematic universe right now. It's just, they are too much. Yeah. And I can never get enough of them. They are great.
[01:06:41] They are great. And they play off each other so well as a couple. It's great. But they should not be a couple because the moment you got to put your hands on somebody that you're in a relationship with, it's over. This should have been instant divorce right here. No, they should not, in real life, this couple should be getting a divorce. But for the Tyler Perry cinematic universe, not that I'll allow choking or cheating, but also it's like, you know, this is kind of, this is kind of the best couple here at this point.
[01:07:10] A little bit, a little bit. Yeah. So the one couple that does decide in this moment that they need a divorce is, uh, Mike and Sheila. Well, Mike decides he comes to her and he's like, so just so you know, uh, I want a divorce and you know, he just kind of calmly tells her like it's over. And she's sitting there almost catatonic before grabbing the nearest bottle and just busting him over the head. And so, um, through, uh, from there, that's
[01:07:37] really the high point of the movie. We could kind of yada, yada, the rest of it. Um, cause we come down from that and it's really the Sheila and Troy story from that moment on. Uh, he doesn't come to arrest her as she thought that he did, but they kind of go off and live in a separate little relationship together for a while. Um, we learned kind of throughout that Troy, so the place they're staying at Troy's dad owned and like, we're in a smaller
[01:08:05] town, but Troy is like the sheriff of this town and he really liked it. So it's kind of a Hallmark movie. Like she's in a small town, learns the meaning of Christmas, goes work out together with Troy. And then he has her out to the movies. It's super cute. Yeah. She ends up staying with him, losing weight, working at the general store, getting now she's like the baddie that, you know, returns back for, uh, for all the things that she's lost. It's just even more Jill Scott. We've been new. Exactly. And he likes her for who she is. There's no fat jokes, none of that going on.
[01:08:34] And so she's really the one that we're going to see return. But in these months while she's gone, we do get to watch, I guess, her friends put their relationships back together. Um, we, we start with Marcus and Angela, you know, they deal with the baby mama drama. Eventually Marcus does what I think Angela has been dying for him to do is just like have a backbone and stand up to her and just be like, chill. Uh, and so he tells her to chill, tells Keisha to chill and everything seems like, uh, they're going to be on the up and up for between the two of
[01:09:03] them. She even says she's going to stop drinking right after she chugs two more glasses. I hope she doesn't stop drinking. I hope she doesn't stop drinking. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I know. I'm sorry. Maybe I'm a bad person. Maybe I'm the problem here. Yeah. Maybe I'm the problem, but I kind of need her to have some Aperol spritzes in the next movie. She need a couple more, just a shot or two, a shot or two. That's all. Um, it's just like, it's just needed to drink a little, you know, like I like drunk Angela.
[01:09:30] I can't tell the difference between her and sober Angela, but I feel the difference there. Right. Uh, Terry and Diane, they have to address their problems. And, um, it's clear that Diane is not happy about him. And, uh, you know, in this, in this, uh, paternity test, cause that's actually some real drama that we're talking about here. Like he don't, he don't trust you. He thought you cheated and you got your tubes tied crazy. These both. Okay. Well, honestly, even with Marcus
[01:09:56] and Angela in the equation and Mike and she, these, these two need to a divorce. I'm sorry. They gotta be, they gotta go. It's gotta go. And this is the one that their resolution is like the least satisfying to me because we only get an apology from Diane. So you did a DNA test and didn't tell her she was wrong for tanning her tubes tied and not telling her, but that's her body. You did it.
[01:10:20] And then you got a DNA test and then never once apologized for this. Yeah. Well, it, it ends up being Diane who has to look at the 80, 20 rule. You know, it was the guys who were talking about it, but Diane is the one who sits in the car and she's looking at the list and she's like, yeah, I'm leaving him or we're getting separated. You know, they move out, but she does the list and she's like, no, it's fine. I'll work through it. Whatever you want. Like I just, I can't do
[01:10:47] this without you. And I get it. I understand. I gotta work less, you know, and she even thinks he's cheating for a second. He lets her believe that he's having twins for a split second. Just see how she would react. But yeah, she has a complete change of heart here. And I'm assuming that twins joke divorce, divorce, divorce. You know what? I changed my mind. Maybe this show should have been called. Why didn't they get divorced? Because I think we should be asking that question about a lot of these people. Why? I, I honestly, like I left this movie being
[01:11:12] like, you know what? Like Angela and Marcus's problem is not that bad. Like it is Diane and Terry that are the real problem here. I mean, this was bad. Um, and then, uh, we get the resolution of, I guess, uh, perfect Patty and Gavin. And this is intense, right? We find out that, um, she, uh, did not strap the baby in. She put the strap on him in the car seat, but she did not secure the seat. Uh, and so when they had their accident, uh, in the rain, which is something that is, you know,
[01:11:40] pretty hard to, you know, it happens. It happens. Um, the baby did not survive and they have not been able to talk about it. She won't address it. She won't talk about it. And he's like forcing her to address it. And eventually they kind of both crumble into each other and realize they have to support each other. Definitely the healthiest resolution to this. Cause you know, the movie shows us that, yeah, the movie shows us that they have all the answers, but this was really like the moment where it's like, no, we don't have all the answers, but if we work together, we can figure it out.
[01:12:07] Yeah. Yeah. And this is the, this is the part where I was like, okay, like there, this is one of the marriages I thought was salvageable in this movie. And also one where it was like, okay, these are some of like the real, real world concerns to kind of factor in with it. Like this, like I, they did not, they did not predict or plan for ever losing a child, right? Nobody plans for that. So this is, and it's something that was out of their control.
[01:12:37] I know that there was like, obviously if she could go back and do something differently, she would, who knows if the baby would have survived. Um, if you know, either way, but it still is something where I feel like it does offer some valuable advice on like beginning to process some of this grief that they are experiencing here. So I do really like
[01:12:59] the resolution to the Gavin, uh, Patricia storyline here. He's always seen very, uh, like, uh, like proud of her accomplishments. They support one another. So even though they have those issues of like being the perfect couple, they, and not really wanting to address their issues, it seems like they're making a step in the right direction, which I don't, I don't really know if the other couples are going to do that long-term. Like Angela made Marcus a meal and he thought he was,
[01:13:25] she was going to murder him. So like, you know, like still funny, still my favorite couple in here. Still a mess. Still a mess. And then we have a new couple, Sheila and Troy. Oh, we actually have two new couples. We actually have two new couples. We have Sheila, Sheila and Troy and Mike and Trina. Um, so when we get Sheila's big reveal showing up to the banquet to watch a perfect Patty, get her award, um, Jill Scott, Jillian Diane Scott. Okay. I don't know her real name, but to me,
[01:13:53] she was, first of all, she looked good and she was acting her ass off. You know, she was, she was in her bag. Um, she was great this whole movie. She really was. That said, Mike wants that old thing back. He sees her shining. She got new body who this, and she's a lot more confident. She's in her baddie era. Go to hell, Mike. Uh, he left her, he left his 84 20. It turns out Trina don't even cook. She don't clean. Uh, so let us tell, let her tell you how she got this ring.
[01:14:19] You know what I'm saying? I don't really know what it was, but something got her and now he don't want her no more. Uh, and it's okay because all the guys will remind him over and over again that you can't have Sheila back. Sheila got a man now. She likes him. She loves her. They're married and now they're going to be moving on to the second movie. Now, I don't know. I do not recall the second movie well enough to know if we're going to see more of Trina and Mike. I know like one big
[01:14:44] plot point that happens in the second movie and I completely forgot. I thought it was a different person that this thing happened to you. So you can imagine when I watched it for the first time and was like, oh wait, that was not what I was expecting to happen. So yeah, um, I do not remember anything else about this movie. I, I'm pretty confident that Mike is in all three movies. So I'm sure we will be seeing him again. He better keep his ass away from Sheila. Uh huh. Yeah.
[01:15:10] Yeah. And I know he won't because that man does not listen, but I'm, I'm still willing it into existence. Not our Sheila, not today. Yeah. Well, we shall see. Uh, Gia, that's why did I get married? The first one we'll be back again to watch. Why did I get married too? And then, uh, why did I get married again later on? Uh, but until in the meantime, tell everybody where they can find you and, uh, what you're working on. You can follow me at classically Gia,
[01:15:36] um, on all social media platforms, um, except threads. I'm just, I'm sorry. I'm never going to go on slides. Um, and it, it is not happening for me. I think, I think I've, uh, tapped out on the social media, uh, game, honestly, but I am, I'm very happy on, uh, blue sky, occasional Twitter, Tik TOK and, uh, Instagram and sub stack. So give me a follow over there. Um, I'll
[01:16:02] have a sub stack article coming out soon in preparation for, uh, survivor 51. Um, it is on, it is the sub stack itself is called bet on black Chappelle and I have a complimentary, um, podcast, including where we do like little segments about some black winners of, uh, reality TV past. So I am looking forward to eventually bringing that back. And we are also in discussions about some,
[01:16:29] uh, different ideas coming, uh, through in the next couple of weeks as we're getting ready for survivor 51 and after survivor 51 airs. So stay tuned for some of those. And, um, I'll be back on inside survivor this year for survivor 51 as well. Big brother is like my break period, but honestly has been stressing me out too much. So, you know, I support you all on your big brother journeys. Yeah. Big brother has me in the trenches, but I'm so happy to be here talking to Gia,
[01:16:57] talking to Mari Chantel and, uh, all the recap kickback listeners about what we got going on over here. Uh, tune in next week for more. Why did I get married? But until then, um, we'll catch you next time. Peace.
